The oldest Charms assignment I have in my queue currently is 9 days old so if that is one of yours I will be getting to it probably tomorrow. I have 10 days to grade Charms assignments so it will be graded before then!

Hello, I am confused by the Prodigal Charms Learner ability. In the Special Abilities list, the description says that in homework I can break anonymity stating that I'm a prodigal charm learner, and that would grant me an O. However looking at other questions in this thread it seems that I need to write an RP to learn a charm, and that I can learn charms teached in other years too. So I don't know what the actual system is.

Homework assignments grant you spells -- for example, Charms Year 1 Lesson 1 grants you the Dancing Feet Spell and the Mending Spell. You get these upon completing the homework for that lesson with a passing grade, which means anything above a T. The Prodigal Learner abilities allow you to break anonymity to state that you have the ability, which grants you an automatic O (the highest grade possible) on the assignment. Since you'd be passing and getting an O automatically, this is how you'd be able to complete homework and gain spells using the Prodigal Charms Learner ability.
The RP you've seen mentioned is just a part of the Charms Homework assignments. Most Charms homework has a RP question, where you're asked to write a roleplay of someone using the spell taught in that class. This is different from roleplaying as your own character in the other on-site threads, since again, it's just part of the assignment. You're asked to maintain anonymity in homework: you're expected either not to use a name in your roleplay or to provide a fake one. Prodigal Charms Learners get to write their name and that they have the Prodigal Charms Learner ability in place of answering the homework questions, and this applies to the RP question, too.
As a first year, you only have access to first year homework. Outside of homework, you're able to obtain spells via purchasing them in the fifth floor shops. Purchasing a spell allows you to use it even if you are of a lower year. You're free to purchase and use spells from any year, as long as you meet the prerequisites listed in the spell description. Some spells, for example, will say "PREREQUISITE: YEAR 2" in their item description, which means you need to be a Second Year or higher to be able to use them.

Following up on that question, if I'm a prodigal charms learner, and I state that in the assignment, I get an automatic O. Does this mean prodigal learners just need to state they are that and not do the questions or do they still need to complete the actual homework?

Hi @Julia Evans! Prodigal Charms Learners just need to mention their name and that they have the ability; it's also good to link your approved ability application, just for the sake of convenience. They do not need to complete the homework itself, they just get an O and therefore that homework's spells automatically.

Hi, @Lauren Wong! Exactly right — you just have to put whatever fake name you're using at the top or bottom of your assignment.
