Cirrus sighed softly as she was finally liberated from her class, quick to shoot up from her seat and sweep her books into her bag the moment the professor dismissed them all. Magical subjects were so overwhelming to her, she hadn't the faintest clue as to what half of the terms that popped up in each lesson meant, being muggle-born and all of a sudden exposed to the world of magic. She could barely tell her plants from her creatures, her spells from her potions, and the workload was astronomical in comparison to her old muggle school. Her mind was always jumbled.
This was why Cirrus enjoyed many quiet moments to herself, actively seeking out places where she knew no one would be. Whether that be up ungodly late by herself in the common room, or roaming somewhere in the woods and revelling the peace of nature, she found immense comfort in her solitude.
Now, as she was one of the first to filter out of the classroom, she was already thinking of all the places she could go for her free period. She thinks she would go to the lake this time, stare into the shallows and find some inspiration for her next composition. Yes, that will do.
Cirrus was eager to get there before anyone else and claim a particularly favourable spot at the shore, walking at a fast pace through the corridors of the castle. She was small enough to weave through the other students that seemed to have zero spatial awareness and remain unnoticed. She was usually pretty good at predicting people's movements, it made it easier for her to avoid them.
However, Cirrus was momentarily distracted by something she walked past, she couldn't even process what it was before she collided into something. Or someone. She fell on the floor with a small grunt, her books spilling half out of her bag, as she looked over to who she had bowled over with her.
"Ah... I'm sorry..." She murmured with a faint wince.

WC: 203. Mentions: @Cirrus MooneyHonestly she was bored. She already had read ahead for this specific class and didn't particularly want to listen to the theory for it. She was so glad when it was over hurriedly packing her stuff and rushing out of the class. She was free for the rest of the day. She stretched before deciding maybe it would be best to get started on some homework. She began to walk away only for someone to bump into her.
A lot of people seem to be bumping into each other these days. She mumbled to herself before looking to see who had done so. She spotted the girl who was now on the floor wincing. Are you alright? She asked lending a hand. You gotta watch where you're walking, it gets really crowded over here at this time. She bent down to help her pick up the books that fell out. She helped the girl to settle herself after getting up, insuring everything in her bag had been returned. She checked around just to be sure of it. You didn't get hurt right? Otherwise I can escort you to the hospital wing. She said concerned for the girl's well being hoping she wasn't injured.

Cirrus was embarrassed. She felt so many eyes on her, students always stopped and stared whenever there was commotion, partially curious and partially seeking juicy gossip material. But there was no new gossip here, just a first year who'd made a fool of herself, shame washing over her as the girl she'd bumped into helped her collect her books and help her up. First and foremost, she felt bad. Then, she felt her stomach drop at the sound of some faint cruel snickers of bystanders, who'd soon lost interest in the scene and gone about their business. Cirrus nearly scowled at them, her cheeks were developing a red hue. Blood hell, she hated people...
But now that the bustle of Hogwarts had returned to its natural flow and the attention was less on them. Cirrus dusted her uniform off from any dirt and dust, making sure to properly zip up her bag once all of her books were packed away once more. She let out a regulating exhale, steeled her demeanour, then turned to the other girl.
"No, I'm quite alright, thank you." She said quietly. Her wrist did ache a little, but nothing major, it would be gone in a day or two. And she really disliked hospitals...
Her eyes then raked over the other girl's form, first for any sight of injury, then briefly noting her appearance - the stars in her hair, the sleek glasses. Cirrus feels like she's seen her around somewhere, although she rarely pays any attention to people. For now, it remains an inkling of a thought in the back of her mind.
"What about you? Did I... hurt you?" She asked with slight tentativeness, almost awkward.

WC: 212 Mentions: @Cirrus MooneyDon't worry about me I'm perfectly fine! I grew up with two brothers getting bumped into is nothing. She grinned looking around as whispers formed
She frowned watching the other students forming a crowd What? Never seen someone bump into another before? She glared and watched as they slowly began to disperse to go to other places. Honestly I don't understand how some people just act like this. She sighed taking off her glasses and wiping them with the bottom of her robes. She held them up against the window to ensure they were clean before putting them back onto her face. She checked her bag to make sure nothing had broken from them bumping into each other cause it would be horrible if ink spilt over her parchment sheets. Luckily everything was intact much to her relief.
Anyways I'm headed to the grounds to do some homework. You should be careful and watch where you walk, people tend to run around sometimes especially when they're late. You wanna join me? Fawkes asked the hufflepuff girl, taking note of her eyes. They reminded her of a friend back home whose eyes tended to change colour based on whether the sun was hitting them or not.

Cirrus was first glad that she hadn’t harmed the other girl. Then, she momentarily amazed by how she was so quick to shoot verbal fire at the other students. Cirrus could never do anything like that, she always freezes up and stutters with confrontation, all the things she could have said plaguing her mind later that night while she was trying to sleep. It just wasn’t in her nature. But she supposed that’s why the other girl was a Ravenclaw, she gravitated a little towards that rather searing wit with a bout of admiration.
It was that natural curiosity of hers that made Cirrus nod at the request when she'd normally simply decline, then quickly fall in place beside the other girl as they began to walk to the grounds together. Everything had moved so quickly.
Cirrus didn't mean to, but she was staring. She couldn't help it. She wasn't usually particularly interested in people, but she felt a strange sense of ease around this girl rather than her usual instinct to be on guard, and she normally trusted her intuition. She looked as though she was trying to figure out why.
Cirrus then realised that they were about to study together, and she didn't know anything about the other girl, not even her name! She'd never been the best with introductions, for some reason her own name always sounded foreign to her own ears, and she felt this odd wave of embarrassment. However, she knows it's the least she can offer after almost taking the poor girl out earlier. So, she clears her throat suddenly and finds her voice, as meek as it is.
"Uhm... I am Cirrus... what is your name?" She asked, seeming hesitant and awkward.

When the girl introduced herself as Cirrus, her first thought was how it reminded her about the clouds, after all, cirrus was a type of cloud. But pronouncing the word in her head made her think of a certain star with a similar name. Then again, she didn't process pronunciations sometimes so it was no wonder she confused the two.
I'm Fawkes.... Fawkes Chaos She smiled. It's nice to meet you! She looked over at Cirrus watching her carefully. She looked nervous and she was rather soft spoken. Fawkes was glad the corridor was quiet enough that she could hear her otherwise she doubt she would have heard the girl speak at all. Looking up she realised they were almost out of the main castle and onto the grounds. It was a clear day as the last remnants of winter were fading and it was becoming warmer. She was glad for as much as she loved winter it was rather cold this year and she hated that she had to wear so many layers to go anywhere in the stone castle considering it was rather hard to carry everything with restricted mobility.

Cirrus briefly marvelled at the name. Fawkes Chaos sounded so... cool. Despite herself having a rather uncommon name, the uniqueness of her new companion's name certainly didn't go unnoticed by her. Despite her own family's penchant for odd names, even as muggles, Fawkes Chaos certainly wasn't something she heard everyday back home. Cirrus decided she liked it.
She also had a short bout of worry upon realising she hadn't shared her surname. Was she supposed to? Had she disobeyed the laws of introduction etiquette? She figured it was too late now and decided to leave it to be discovered later.
She couldn't focus on that when the radiant air of nature blessed her senses, the faint breeze gently tousling her hair in a pleasant manner. She loved winter, having to be rugged up to go outside just gave her more incentive to stay inside. And the snow was always so pretty to her, even if she saw it every year, it was a source of calm and inspiration for her. Nonetheless, she did see why many students were pleased with the imminence of warmer seasons. She enjoyed the soft warmth just as much as the cold. She enjoyed nature, in general.
Cirrus just followed Fawkes wherever she desired to go. They'd ended up in a mostly quiet spot of the courtyard; there were just a few other students around with the same study ideas as they and some little birds who also seemed to find great pleasure in the warmer weather that were chirping with glee from their perch on the large oak in the center of the courtyard. It was nice here and for once, Cirrus wasn't so uncomfortable by another person's presence.
"What subject do you need to study?" Cirrus asked as the pair sat themselves on a rustic bench, digging into their bags for their textbooks and notes.

History of magic. I've got so much homework for it but it's such a boring subject to do. she sighed. She hated having to study history. If she just had to hear or learn about it? It would have been fantastic! However having to memorize all sorts of dates and events really got on her nerves. It was the one subject she disliked to the core. No other subject could compare.
She opened her book to a specific page and began to write the answers out making sure the ink didn't blot on the paper. She didn't have a lot of practice with quill writing as her parents had mostly preferred muggle pens, only really using quills for important documents. They had made her learn but she never really practiced so she had to be extremely careful a huge spot of ink didn't land in the center of her work. There was a gentle breeze in the air and she enjoyed being out in the fresh air.

Cirrus was the complete opposite. History of Magic was the one subject she could wholly grasp as it was the closest thing to her regular subjects back in her muggle school. She was also certainly a history buff, able to pull out the most random of facts about the most obscure topics. It was the one class she actively participated in and never felt as though she was inferior in either her intellect or capabilities. It was just everything else she struggled with and it frustrated her so much. She never struggled in muggle school.
"I find History of Magic quite intriguing, actually..." She murmured, almost as if her differing opinion was pure blasphemy and she was hesitant to admit that out loud.
"I... could help? If you'd like..." She seemed partially unsure with her words as though she'd never spoken them before. Because she hadn't. She'd never helped anyone with study aside from her brother, who definitely did not share her level of intellect despite being twins. Cirrus fears she got all the profoundness and he got... whatever it was that made him so obnoxious.
Cirrus had taken out her own History of Magic textbook now. She, however, fancied a pencil. She'd use ink and quill when required of her, but she never could get the hang of it, she thought it was unnecessary. She supposed small skills such as this were like a dying out native language and were culturally significant. Although, when she had the choice, she'd always do what was more comfortable to her.
Additionally, when she took out her parchment, she already had notes smattered all over the page. Key dates, important events, notable figures, all related to the topic they were studying in History of Magic. She had even already done most of the homework. She subtly slid her pages across the bench to Fawkes like an offering.

WC 215. Mentions: @Cirrus MooneyFawkes perked up when Cirrus said she liked history of magic. Perhaps she could ask her to help her with the subject. She nodded enthusiastically when Cirrus offered her help. History was never her strong suit even if it was basic history. Could she score well in the subject? Yes. But that was mainly just her ability to memorize and retain information long enough to actually answer her tests. She never truly loved to study the subject so she was glad there was someone who actually liked it.
Fawkes looked over at Cirrus' book and looked at the notes and markings made in it with pencil. She appreciated the fact that it was made in pencil and not in ink. She disliked marking textbooks in ink as in her opinion it ruined the condition of the book whereas graphite was easily removable from the page. Thank you! She said when she was handed the set of notes.
She was awestruck with how well written out the notes were. They had a certain system to them which made them easy to read and seemingly easier to learn. She scanned them recognising the notable figures and tried to memorize the names and dates. She was extremely happy and looked up at Cirrus and smiled joyfully.
