Modern Muggle Technology in the Wizarding World

Radiated EMI are electromagnetic waves set off by magical artifacts, enchanted structures and runes as well as the presence of some magical creatures that passively emit electromagnetic interference. This is particularly true in environments where transfiguration magic happens due to the presence of iotas. In non-magical environments with sudden bursts of magical activity, such as a spell being cast, the part of the voltage or current emitted from the caster can be injected into power or signal lines, over-charging and therefore damaging electronic devices, referenced as Conducted EMI. EMI, as well as other social factors contribute to the drastic differences between the muggle and the magical world.
In the magical world, magic is not just spell casting, magic saturates the environment of wizarding homesteads, shops and schools such as Hogwarts. These structures are often protected by ancient, protective, magical wards that have been reinforced for decades if not centuries with layers of additional enchantments. Further, some wizarding structures are purposefully built over powerful magical ley lines, which serve as sites that work synergistically with long-term spell use but are also naturally disruptive of muggle technology. Cameras: digital cameras do not work in magical environments. Electricity in General: Electricity in a magical household can be considered a fire hazard. Due to wiring shorts, blown fuses, stalling generators and lights that burn out very quickly, electricity is not something that is found in wizarding homesteads.
Does the Wizarding World Have Technology?

This depends on the household and the amount of magic within the environment. Households with numerous, active wizards, even a muggle born household could struggle maintaining technology if there are multiple practicing muggle-born wizards now living under the same roof.
In general, households are as follows--

- Typically no muggle technology.
- Often warded estates.
- Magic is the primary infrastructure.
- Electricity would fail in magical homes and be a potential fire hazard.
- Electrical devices would fail to work within the pureblood household and if left unused in a pureblood household for a protracted period of time (a few days), it is likely the electronic device would be permanently unusable.
Half-blood homes:
- May have limited Muggle technology.

- The technology that does exist in these households is often short-lived, with short battery lives and inconsistent connection even in households with only occasional magical activity.
Muggleborn homes:
- Fully functional technologically.

- heavy spellcasting would disrupt electronics.
What Happens to Technology When Magic Occurs in Muggle Society
In cases where small magical incidents have happened - lights may flicker, phones may glitch, there may be static interference on transmissions or CCTV distortion. When the magic is small and the exposure is brief, there is no long-term damage to these devices, merely momentary inconvenience.
