This was beyond embarrassing, and then the other Hufflepuff had to make it worse. Yes, she was on the Quidditch team, but she was a better flyer than this! She didn't take her time because she wanted to help someone and the broom got mad for rushing her, it happens all the time. But of course, no one would listen to that explanation. She kept trying to pull herself up as the boys gathered around the mess that had been created, but her noodle arms were doing her no good.
"Yes, I'm on the Quidditch team. And for anyone wondering, no this isn't what usually happens when I fly." She huffed in frustration, and then the situation got worse. The Slytherin positioned himself underneath her to catch her. She had punched this boy over friendship bracelets and now he was trying to catch her? There are so many things in this world that she would rather do than drop into the arms of this boy. Especially since she didn't know if his arms would stay there. She rolled her eyes at his statement, "Rational is a funny way to describe yourself." She hung dejectedly in the air for a moment, considering her options.
She could just fall and break her legs, but then she couldn't play in the Quidditch game. Maybe she could purposefully fall and hurt him, that punch wasn't enough apparently for him to stay away from her, so this could be an opportunity for another lesson. But there were way too many people watching to do that. No, she would just have to trust him and that sounded impossible. She realized she had stayed hanging for way too long, this was just sad.
She took a deep breath, looking down once more at the dreaded hazel eyes below her, "I swear, if you just drop your arms I won't hesitate to repeat our last talk." She finally let go, and let herself fall a few feet, fully preparing to hit the ground.
When he caught her, a look of surprise would come over her face at him sticking to his word. She would quickly jump out of his arms and wipe off her clothes as if to get his touch off of her. She didn't want to catch his rude personality. She mumbled a quick, "Thank you." to the Slytherin before watching the broom wobble and start falling back to the ground.
She quickly moved to catch the broom from falling to the ground, catching it with one hand before it it's bristles hit the ground. This time she took her time with the broom, assessing it's weight, how it wanted to be handled, before mounting it and kicking off, this time going without a hitch. She flew up next to George, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "How would you care for a race with the quidditch keeper, hm?" With being a keeper she had to be fast and agile to defend the rings on the field and she had to make up for her poor mounting performance that she just had.Strength Check for Catching Broom

Flight of the First Years
What had seemed like an ordinary ordeal at first had quickly mushroomed into a cacophony of activity. With much alacrity however, the situation was back under control, the two girls who'd ended up in a fluster had been rescued, the Hufflepuff quickly swooping in and taking on the second passenger. It seemed the crisis had been averted - and now Oliver could go back to his broom. So far, no one had really jetted off.
While the others took care of bringing the two to ground, Oliver determinedly marched back to his broom, narrowing his eyes and commanding it to his hand. "Up!" As before, the broom shot up into his hand, the speed of it almost breaking it loose from his grip. *That was close.* he thought. As he'd seen the Hufflepuff boy do, he swept his leg up and over the stick of his broom. Taking a deep breath, Oliver put on a confident grin and pushed up and off with his toes. What happened next sent his stomach lurching.
Oliver's broom shot forward like an arrow, his weight shifting to the rear. Propelled forward, and then up, the boy's sudden change in direction sent him spinning off to the right - but it didn't stop. Around and around he spun, three times as he rose steadily into the air. If he didn't regain control soon, he'd shoot well past their 2nd story restriction. Fighting to keep the contents of his previous meal where they belonged, Oliver extended his foot, trying to slow the spin. At the same time he gripped the broomstick tightly, willing it to spin the opposite direction and hopefully stop the spin. At first it looked like it might have worked, the spin coming to a stall as the broom leveled out about one story from the ground - aaaand then things got hairy again. "Oh no..." Oliver managed to utter before he began to spin the other way.
The confident grin he'd left the ground with was replaced with a sickly palor and a narrow grimace. It was all he could do to hold onto the broom, much less direct it at this point - and it had decided that it wanted to FLY. The nose of his broom rose, the spinning sending him round and round as it rapidly headed towards the sky. Oddly enough, it wasn't Oliver's safety that was running through his mind, but what a mess of things he'd made and how much trouble he'd be in. As a muggle, no doubt there would be jokes, berating, and he'd be lucky if he made it out of this situation without a nickname. Even as the broom shot skyward and threatened to breach the peak of the second story, Oliver had a fleeting thought. An idea. Unless someone looked very close, what he'd done so far could simply have been a flourish, a showing off - if he could just pull this off.
In a last ditch attempt to salvage the last few moments of his life, Oliver leaned back even further on the broomstick, so far back that the nose began to creep up vertically and just ever so precariously backwards. It was close. It was very close. As the spinning slowed and Oliver began the downward swoop of his backwards loop he tried to get a fix on where he was. With relief, he saw the wall of the second story nearby - which meant he hadn't broken the 2nd story rule. At least, so far as he knew - but had anyone traced a line from the roof to the tail of his broom, several bristles had broken the plane.
"Wahooo!" Oliver shouted as he head back towards the ground. If he wasn't the first to the 2nd story, he certainly would have been one of the more noticeable. Color had begun to return to his face, the boy's stomach settled as he cautiously wobbled back down towards the ground. "How's that for a First Year!"

Flight of the First Years
The Slytherin boy, Oliver, must have been too eager to fly or already too far away to hear, because he didn't seem to respond to Jack's question about his last name. Not that Jack minded terribly. There would probably be plenty of chances to get it later when they were all less occupied.
As he positioned himself under the Hufflepuff girl, carefully calculating the distance between herself and the ground, he heard her fellow Hufflepuff ask if she was on their Quidditch team. The girl confirmed this before proclaiming that her state at that moment was a poor example of her usual flying skills. Jack remembered the badger boy promising that flight wasn't hard, but what was even less hard, the Slytherin decided, was making a fool of oneself in front of one's peers. Even, evidently, if you were good enough at flying to be a Quidditch player.
Though he didn't attend any games, the redhead enjoyed knowing who played on the Quidditch teams if only to tease and taunt them. It was something he liked to do in order to counter the fact that everyone else seemed to worship the ground they walked on like most sport-playing jocks. This girl seemed to have countered her image as a player all on her own, though, causing Jack to decide against adding to her plight. Little did he know of George's theory that Hufflepuffs turned into fools when observed.
While he waited for the blonde to decide whether or not she trusted him enough to drop into his arms, the red-headed Slytherin was paying close attention to the Hufflepuff girl's housemate. He was hard at work attempting to rescue the Ravenclaw girl and the redhead found himself even more impressed with the other boy's skill than before. He probably didn't mean to show off, but the way he expertly backed up his broom, so carefully and slowly, and with such precision so as to try to thread it between the girl's legs...now that took skill. It was like how anyone could ride a bike fast, but riding one slowly was deceptively much harder than one might have guessed because of the balance it required.
"Rational is a funny way to describe yourself." the blonde's voice called out to him, drawing his attention from the other rescue attempt to her own.
Jack sneered. "Well, I'm fairly certain I'm more rational than you in any case...or else I'd be the one stuck up there and you'd be the one down here." He snorted in amusement at her threat regarding repeating their last talk. "As long as you honestly just mean the last talk and not the last physical confrontation we had, that's perfectly fine with me," the boy answered with a soft chuckle. "I love talks." As if she wouldn't have known that by now.
When she dropped, he was careful to catch her bridal-style, but he bent his knees in an attempt to distribute the weight easier and have the ground absorb more of the shock than his body. However, he had underestimated the girl's weight and thus threw his balance off when he crouched, falling over onto his behind shortly after she jumped out of his arms.
A light laugh escaped him as he watched her attempt to rid herself of his cooties. "...Huh. You're heavier than you look," Jack commented, grinning boyishly. As he pushed himself back up onto his feet and dusted his own clothes off, he heard her brief words of gratitude and nodded silently in response, still smiling.
The girl caught her falling broom right out of the air shortly after, surprising Jack, but not enough to prompt him to speak or make any other noise of acknowledgement. In almost no time at all, she was on her broom and flying up beside her fellow badger, asking him if he wanted to race.
Jack, however, also had plans to speak to the other first-year. He waited patiently for the Ravenclaw to be let down off the Hufflepuff boy's broom before attempting to address him once more.
"You're an extraordinary flier," he told the brunet seriously, not being one to freely give praise. "How you were able to back up like that and move so carefully...very impressive. Not to mention ambitious, trying to get her on your broom with you despite the extra weight. As a Slytherin who admires that kind of ambition, you have my respect."
With a small bow, he looked back up, asking, "May I ask where you learned to fly like that? How is it that one's on your Quidditch team and you aren't?"
Out of his peripheral vision, Jack could see a Gryffindor girl flying easy laps around them. He also noticed Oliver from before appearing to have a wild time with his broom, pulling off rollar-coaster-like moves. If it hadn't been for the other Slytherin's previous excitement at simply having commanded his broom into his hand on his second try, Jack might actually have been fooled into thinking his housemate might have attempted to do all those stunts on purpose, as Oliver hoped his peers would. However, Jack was on to his fellow snake's ways and he couldn't keep the grin off his face when Oliver asked how his skills had been for a first year.
"Nice," he offered mildly, nodding, "But could you do it again? I think I missed the whole first part."

Flight of the First Years
George swung his legs forward to help balance the weight as Breana landed behind him, eyes wide an amazement that he really did that. The broom tipped back slightly with the new weight, but George compensated by leaning forward, holding tight onto the broom as he hesitantly began to move again. Slow, lazy victory laps, descending in a spiral with the Ravenclaw. The girl was safe! The young Hufflepuff boy reached down to pat her hand when she wrapped her arms around his waist.
"You're alright!" the boy said with an easy smile, glancing back to Breana to get a better look at her. She was a small thing, like his roommate, but far more adventurous! Jake would never be able to handle that sort of excitement. "Oh! And I'm George Henry. Make sure you remember it so you can thank me later."
The descent was careful in the last moments, the pair slowing to a smooth stop amid the people on the ground. He made sure to lift his legs up so he could hover lower - he could dismount easily, but he was quite a bit taller than the girl he'd rescued. When he finally looked away from the one he'd just saved, he noticed that Jack was already looking at him. The Hufflepuff boy put on a great big smile - the heroic performance had been more impressive than he thought. Willow was down on the ground with her broom in hand, although she didn't look impressed with her own hero. George must have missed the fall during his own flight. She was up and challenging George to a race already! The opportunity made his heart jump. How impressive would he be if he beat the keeper in a broom race?
"I'd love a race! Give me just a minute!" he said. He needed some time to catch his breath and converse with his unexpected admirer.
"You're an extraordinary flier."
George let out a strange noise - his normal laughter subdued into a shy giggle. He seemed to sense the gravity of the praise. His intuition may have been guided by his own perception of Slytherins. They were clever to the degree that Gryffindors was brave, and both seemed equally out of his reach. The Hufflepuff couldn't help as his ears went red from the praise, giving Jack a respectful little nod in return for his bow. It would be unwise to lean over too far while he was still sitting on his broom.
"Only learned it from Professor Bercegeay! And hey - our team is quite good! Maybe being able to hang upside down like that is good when you're a keeper?" George laughed and looked up to Willow, giving her a warm smile. He still had the instincts of a Hufflepuff when it came to defending his housemates, but he couldn't resist getting in a little teasing, too. "To be honest, I never even tried out for the quidditch team. I figured I'd be terrible on a broom. Especially competing with kids who have wizard parents - some of them have already flown, even before school."
Oliver's whirlwind ascent may not have impressed George, but it did amaze him. The intention behind it was not nearly as important as the style that came through in the performance. The Hufflepuff even took his hands off of his own broomstick to clap for him. "Pretty good! You... you look a bit sick, though!"
Hopefully he wouldn't try to fly while he was still dizzy, or there would need to be another rescue mission. A moment passed and George felt his hopes reverse. If there were another mission, he could impress Jack again. There was another opportunity, he recalled. The race he had agreed to with Willow - who was still waiting for him to end his conversation, likely getting bored by now.
"Did I mention I'm George Henry? I am," he added in parting to Jack, before pushing himself off with one foot and springing up into the air again. "I'll be back in a second!"
He flew up beside Willow and lined his broom up with hers, taking a moment to scoot back into a proper racing stance - imitating Willow move for move. "Alright - three... twoooo... one... GO!" George blasts off from the starting line, starting in a loop around the yard. He's putting his full effort into the flight and getting the moves right. Willow, however, is much more comfortable on a broom. The boy can't match her moves for long, falling behind and giving Willow a commanding lead. Perhaps it would look like he was letting her win? Hopefully.
The pair swept past @Kayden Mae Killian in their pursuit, and George lifted one hand off his broomstick to wave her in. The Gryffindor seemed to be taking her flight at a leisurely pace, but she still flew smoothly, and the young Hufflepuff hoped that he could provide the soaring keeper with some more fierce competition. "Come and race! Can't let the keeper win that easy, can we?"

Flight of the First Years
Startling a little when a pair of boys swept past her, Kayden Mae glanced up. As a grin spread across her face, the first year kicked up the speed to hover right at their heels. She’d seen them a moment ago, racing each other, but hadn’t even thought about joining them until one of them waved at her and called out.
“A race, huh?” she answered, eyes sparkling and eyebrows raising - the look on her face was playful, challenging, and she upped her speed again to soar to the left of the two boys, grinning wide and uninhibited in her glee, and then just a few inches further, so that the handle of her broom was a few inches past his. She was testing the waters.
She glanced over, blue eyes bright and the smirk on her lips clearly a challenge. She had missed this, too - the friendly competition, especially in the form of a race. Her brothers were heavier than her, less suited for speed, and Kayden Mae had learned all sorts of tricks to boost her speed, both from her own experimenting and from her mother, so by the time she was ten both of her brothers, sore of losing, refused to race with her. It had probably been a year or so since she’d had a good race. She was looking forward to this one.@George Henry

Breana laughed of out relief as she survived that wild ordeal. The descent was a bit smoother than she anticipated, stumbling with her footing at first as she's finally reached the ground."George, eh?" She grinned, dusting her robe as she dismounted from his broom. "Thanks for the save back there. Now I just have to try to get better flying skills for--" Then the realization dawned on her: Where is the broom that shot her up to high heaven? She looked up, and unfortunately it's taking a nosedive straight down towards Breana below.
The poor witch tried to dodge the broom but it bonked her tiny forehead. "Oh SUGAR!" She shouted in pain, holding her now bruised noggin. She sat down, now dazed from the hit. One unlucky thing after another... hopefully it can't get any worse for her, can it?
Despite the hapless series of situations, Breana still mustered through to try to get through at least flying properly. She tried to will herself to carry on at least for one ride, but that head full of wood did her in. She waved over at George, her one hand still on her forehead, slowly forming a bump. "O-oi, mate, I think I should best be headin' o-- Aaaand he's off already..." She groaned, slowly turning her body to the way back inside the Hogwarts's interior. Breana waved over at the others, and to the people already up. "Good luck flying, everyone..." She then points at George. "I'm betting on him to win." She said, telling that to anyone that was still within earshot of her. Is there anyone still nearby? She doesn't know, the pain is starting to surface now. She didn't want to end this on a sad note for her, but her throbbing head is saying otherwise.
Breana is exiting the thread.

As if it hadn't damaged her pride enough to fall into the arms of someone she despised, he literally wasn't even capable of catching her and fell over. Then had the audacity to comment on how much she weighed. As she leaned on the broom she had caught successfully she rolled her eyes. "Am I heavier than you thought, or are you weaker than you thought?" She watched from the sky as George feebly tried to defend her honor about her flying abilities. She was about to completely smoke him in a race just to show him better than to badmouth someone like her.
She leaned forward on her broom, laying her head atop her hands resting at the front. This was the comfiest way to rest during in between times during practice. The impatience was growing in her, it didn't help that she was already irritated from the events and the Slytherin boy's attitude. There was nothing she wouldn't give to just... punch him again. Finally after George was done bragging about his basic flying feat he lined up next to her to race. As soon as he said go she zoomed off. Fueled by annoyance and a petty need to win she didn't even look behind her. It wasn't that hard for her to gain the lead based on her ability to practice much more often than other first years.
After she was substantially in the lead she heard George invite someone else to the race, saying something about not letting her win easy but with the distance between them she wasn't exactly sure he knew who was having the easy time. As she scanned the field again while the new girl got her bearings on the broom she saw the Ravenclaw girl heading out. She frowned, hopefully she would be able to talk to her a different time she seemed fun. Willow turned back to George and flew over to join him. " Maybe we could do two against one, since you obviously need a little help in the race department." She was being a bit mean, but she couldn't help it. She was extremely hurt with George's lack of support for a fellow badger but maybe after some friendly competition she could let it go.
