August, 2019
Here it was, the day Lennox had been enthused by for weeks. The day she and her mother would be going into London to purchase her school supplies. The young girl had practically jumped out of bed this morning, trailing her mother around the house until she was forced to go get ready. After showering and putting her hair up into a bun, Lennox had surveyed her closet, unsure of how to dress for a day she considered magnificently important. When she looked through her closet, Lennox had finally settled on a pair of light wash jeans paired with a navy blue shirt, adorned with sheer sleeves that were perfect for the humidity of summer in England.
After she had gotten ready, Lennox tried to wait patiently until her mother, Allegra, was ready to leave. Once Allegra had indicated she was, she practically ran to the front door, waiting for her mother, who would apparate them to the City of London, where they would then have to go to the Leaky Cauldron. As soon as they had stepped outside, her mother grasped her arm, and with a booming Crack!, they had disappeared from Manchester, and had plopped into an alleyway in the City of London.
It took Lennox a minute to recover from her mother's Apparition, finding that she never was truly prepared for the sensation that came with apparating. She fixed her hair, and looked to her mother, who gave her a small smile. "Ready, dear?" Allegra asked. Lennox nodded, following her mother out of the alleyway and into the crowds that filled the streets.
Her mother and she had a strained relationship, from years of forced arguments. However, Lennox found that she could never hold too much of a grudge against her mother when they were together, as she knew her mom really did care, she just wasn't the greatest at showing it. Lennox knew some of it came from her mothers' language barrier and much different upbringing, as she had been born and spent most of her life in France, before emigrating to England to take her position in the Ministry,
The young girl was deep in this thought when she heard her mother gasp. Lennox's head had shot right up, looking to see what would have shocked her mother. Not seeing anything out of the ordinary, she found herself even more confused, until her mother spoke.
"Marc, is that you? After all these years? I haven't seen you since Beauxbatons!" Allegra spoke, shock clear in her voice. Who in Merlin's name is Marc? Lennox thought, standing close to her mother as she observed who she was talking to. There was another man, and with him, a young girl, that looked around Lennox's age. She smiled, speaking over to the other girl, "Hi," Lennox started, offering up a small wave. Before saying more, though, she looked to her mother, wondering how she knew these people.

"Lauren come on wake up and get ready! We have to go shopping at Daigon Alley this morning." A voice boomed up the stairs creeped into the girl's room. She stressed and Shuffled her way out of bed and in front of her curtains. The sunlight hitting her face like daggers piercing through her eyes made her back up slightly before smiling. How she loved the sunlight on her face in the morning. For her, it was as good as splashing cold water on her face. Lauren opened her wardrobe to find a pair of pink jeggings and a stripped white and grey shirt to put on her. She knew it was going to be warm even if it was the morning as we were in August after all.
The girl skipped down the stairs after having brushed her teeth and done her bed. She greeted their house elf with a polite "Good morning Kolt." The house elf merely smiled and nodded at her. He had never been much of a talker but that didnt matter much to her, they could understand each other perfectly. She went down to see her father already waiting for her too get her shoes on, wand at the ready.
"Come on Lauren, or I'll have to do the shopping all by myself! How would you get your wand one silly?" Lauren put her sneekers on quickly and laughed a bit at her father's nickname. He then ordered her kindly to hold onto him as he apparated them away to Diagon Alley. The eleven year old shut her eyes closed shut as her anxiety peeked right before her father brought up his wand. She had never apparated with her father before, and this being her first time she was a bit nervous for it to happen. A split second later, they were in Diagon Alley in the middle of a crowd. Lauren dusted herself off as an instinct even if she didnt have any dist on her whatsoever. The alley was packed with students, parents and younger kids getting their furniture for Hogwarts. Having little kids run past her was not something she enjoyed at all but she tolerated it as long as they didnt bump him too hard into her.  She saw a few groupds looking out a window onto the new brooms, a few others running towards WEASLEY’S WIZARD WHEEZES.  The only thing that caught her eye was Ollivander's shop. She couldnt wait to have her own wand and tugged on her father's right arm and pointed towards the shop. He smiled at her and nodded before going into that direction.
As they were about to enter, a voice called out:
"Marc, is that you? After all these years? I haven't seen you since Beauxbatons!" Her father turned his heels and was in the opposite direction as her in a second. Lauren got accidentally spun arround by a running boy and now disoriented and on the ground, took a few seconds to balance herself again. She muttered under her breath a few words before getting up and dusting herself, her knees aching from the impact on the ground.
"kids." She hissed at the muttered before joining her father and seeing a girl rather her age waving at her. She merely smiled but didnt wave back, still angered about her fall, her face red from embarrassment.
"Allegra? Allegra from Beauxbatons is that you? Wow! It's been so long"  Lauren's father placed a kind hand on the woman's'shoulder. Lauren glared at his hand touching the woman so called Allegra and clenched her jaw. It hurt her deeply to see her father place and hand like that on another woman. Her mother hadn't been away for that long, only merely three years which for an eleven year old dint seem like enough time for her father to be like that towards others. She frowned at her father even more but said nothing sharply nodding at the other girl. Not seeing at all her reaction, her father rambled on to Allegra.
"W-wow! you look great! How are you? oh! is this your daughter? Hello there! I'm Mr. Wildhawk, but call me Mark!"

There were many thoughts running through Lennox's mind as she saw the unfamiliar man, Mr. Wildhawk, or Mark, touch her mother. Why is he touching Mum? Why doesn't Mum care? What about father? Why is his daughter looking at us like that? These thoughts raced through her mind, and she had a sour taste in her mouth, crossing her arms as she looked up at her mom, a brow raised. "Oh, thank you," Allegra blushed, before noticing her daughter's look of disapproval. Her mother quickly snapped out of whatever had made her practically swoon, and she then stood a bit straighter, as she introduced her daughter, "Yes, this is Lennox. We needed to come in to get her ready for Hogwarts, is that what you and yours are here for?" Allegra beamed, looking down at Mark's daughter, a soft smile on her lips. "Hi there, I'm Mrs. Knightley, but please, call me Allegra."
Lennox looked up at her mom with awe, shocked that she had entertained this man for as long as she had been. Sure, she went to school with him, but she had Father now! Lennox, being as young as she was, couldn't comprehend that a woman as old as her mother could be friends with a guy, without romantic interest. "Can you believe this?" She mouthed to the other girl, tilting her head to gesture towards their parents, who had continued on in a conversation.
As she watched her mother talk, she sighed, deciding she would now try and get her mother moving. Too much time with someone that wasn't her father, time to move. Lennox tugged on the skirt of her mother's sundress, trying to subtly get her attention. It seemed to work, as Allegra looked down at her daughter, with a look that clearly said she remembered why they had gone there in the first place. However, the outcome Lennox was about to get was not exactly what she had planned.
"We have to get to shopping, but would you and your daughter like to tag along?" Allegra asked, looking down at her daughter with a smile, presuming that she would be happy about this. Maybe Lennox would be, if it wasn't a man her mother was inviting. The other girl seemed such as horrified as she felt, so she figured they could potentially get along, but right now, the shock was taking the forefront of her mind.

Lauren kept a stern face the entire conversation before Allegra addressed her. She tensed up formally replied:
"Its a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Knightely" The girl refused to call this woman, a woman she did not know, Allegra. Her father quick;y took his hand away from Allegra's shoulder blushing a bit as well and stuttered slightly before clearing his throat
"Well its lovely to meet you Lennox! Oh I'm here with my daughter Lauren to get her furniture as well! It is her first year and we hope she gets into Slytherin or Ravenclaw, just like her dear mother. Speaking of! So I can see you married Allegra? Well I'm a little surprised but after all, this must mean he is very unqieu and I am sure a wonderful man. You have a beautiful daughter, I am certain you are very proud my old friend." Lauren's jaw dropped to the ground as her eyes stared up to her father. Her breath becoming agitated and her eyebrows frowning, she was outraged. Her OWN father who's wife, her OWN mother, had passed a few years ago was... CONTEMPLATING with this woman he had just met! Lauren held back a few tears at her eyes, hurt by her father's action. Is he really trying to replace mom? Has he forgotten about her already? She clenched her fists and let a tear falling down her cheek before wiping it away quickly with her hand, only the other girl witnessing her cries. As Lennox mouthed a few words at her, Lauren replied with anger in her mouthing and nodding.
"I know right?!" Well at least she wasnt the only one thinking that this was beyond wrong. Both of the daughters tugged on their parent's clothes trying to get them to go their separate ways and never see each other again.  The two girls now satisfied that they had stopped talking and sharing suck private information nodded harshly at each other thinking this was goodbye.
Agrella then ruined the moment "We have to get to shopping, but would you and your daughter like to tag along?" Lauren froze at her words and was about to say something when her father, without even looking at his daughter for approval replied in a split second
"It would our pleasure to thank you! Why dont you girls go on ahead, we can both go to Ollivander's and get your wands! Ah to be this excited to get a wand again... do you remember the first time...." Lauren blocked off their conversation in her head and headed straight for the other girl. She sniffled for a second before reaching her hand out for a handshake and declaring in a rather cold tone.
"Hello. My name is Lauren and I am part of the pure-blood Wildhawk descendants" She wanted to make sure her father heard her but was certain he hadnt. She then waited for the girl to return her handshake

Lennox was horrified, wishing that Mr. Wildhawk would have caught on to his daughter's displeasure, so this wouldn't have had to continue. As her mother practically flirted with this other man, a man that seemed to have a wife and child, just like she had a husband and child, the young girl was trying to keep herself from bursting out in tears. Sure, her mother and she hadn't had the best relationship, but that was nothing compared to the betrayal she felt at this moment. And, to make it all the worse, Lauren seemed to hate her, for something that she genuinely couldn't control.
"I'm Lennox, from the Knightley descendence. Also, pureblood..." She trailed off, never having had someone introduce themselves to her with their blood status. She had come from a pureblood family, but unlike her parents, never flaunted it, instead choosing to keep it under the radar, as she didn't want the family lineage to shape peoples' views of her.
Regardless, she gave the other girl a firm handshake in return. As their parents slowly trailed behind them, catching up on the years they had lost, Lennox decided to make it clear to Lauren that they were on the same side. "I think this is awful, too. My father is working today, but that doesn't give her a right to be like this. We're on the same page, you and I. This is awful, but please, let's just act like that's not happening and get our shopping done? We don't have to talk, or be best friends, or whatever, but we have no need to hate each other," She finished, going off on a small tangent, before cutting herself short.
Eventually, they got to Ollivanders, and they were able to separate for a moment, each parent focusing on the girls picking their wands. After a tricky 3 tries, Lennox finally found her wand, and for a moment, all the anguish from before had washed away. Until she realized her mother was waiting for Lauren and Mr. Wildhawk. What is she doing? Lennox scowled, waiting once more for the other pair, hoping that maybe things with Lauren could at least be civil.

Lennox returned her handshake firmly
""I'm Lennox, from the Knightley descendance. Also, pureblood..." A small smirk grew on Lauren's face as she heard the word pureblood. Well at least thats good news. Maybe we could get along after all. The Wildhawk daughter had always introduced herself politely to others even though she might not like them and now regretted to not have done the same to I Allegra so that she knew she was proud to be pureblood. She couldnt help being proud, her whole family was similar to the one in the past: the Malfoys. Of course they werent related whatsoever but there were a lot of stories about their family and how they would be an example to her. Or so they wished it. After doing a bit of research on the Malfoys, she found out that all of them had worked for the dark Lord: He-who-must-not-be-named. Because of this discovery, Lauren had decided not to take the family as an example but was still proud of her blood status.
Lennox then decided to try to clarify that they both wanted the same thing:
"I think this is awful, too. My father is working today, but that doesn't give her a right to be like this. We're on the same page, you and I. This is awful, but please, let's just act like that's not happening and get our shopping done? We don't have to talk, or be best friends, or whatever, but we have no need to hate each other," Lauren nodded at what the girl was saying and added on

"My father's behavior is outrageous, not only is he talking about very personal matters of our family and yours, but my mother has been.." The girl cut herself short feeling a knot in her throat and thought quickly of an excuse "... On a trip! yes, on a trip for the past few ye-... months. He does not have the right to do this. But yes lets get on with our shopping, besides, I think we could get along." She finished her sentence off with a small smile as they headed towards Ollivander's.  Lennox went first and after a couple of tried finally found her wand: 25,4 cm chestnut wood with unicorn hair. This wand intrigued Lauren as she remembered having learned about wands with unicorn's hair. According to my memories, the Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. And the chestnut wood is apparently varies a lot in character according to wand core. I think I remember reading about how three heads of Wizengamot have possessed chestnut and unicorn wands and that the wand (that she has) showed interest in serving justice? Eh we'll see if this is really true or not another day. Now, for my turn. Lauren looked for her Father's eyes on her but, like she predicted, he paid no attention.

"Good morning Mr. Ollivander. I've come for my first wand" The sales man chuckled and nodded and went back to find a box or two. Lauren tried four wand unsuccessfully until finally the perfect one: a 33,6 cm chestnut wood with a  phoenix feather. Lauren was overjoyed seeing her wand and giggled out of content when the small light and burst of magic ran through her hair.
"A Pheonix core!" She whispered under her breath, her eyes wide open from surprise :Father look! A Pheonix core!" She tugged on his arm as he bent down passively and muttered
"Yes yes that's great Lauren. Now where was I? Ah yes..." Her father continued the conversation as he was laughing at old memories. pushing Lauren to the side. Lauren looked at the ground embarrassed: he wasnt even looking up... The eleven year old shook her head anddecided to go to Lennox and tell her about her wand so that her focus wouldnt be on her father.
"Lennox look a pheonix core! Pehonix cores are said the be the pickiest at choosing their wizards and hard to tame and act out on their own! This is the rarest core type. And Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic! God I'm so excited! We also got the same wood! a chestnut wood!" She grinned at Lennox, her giggles filling the shop with laughter as the two families continued on their shopping. Maybe going to Hogwarts wasnt so so bad after all. maybe she'd like it there?

A wave of relief washed over the young girl as she heard Lauren say that they could maybe get along. It was refreshing to know that even though they may dislike how their parents were interacting, they could bypass that and maybe be friends.
Once she had received her wand, she glanced over it, admiring it in quite a loving way. Lennox hadn't done much research into wands, but she knew unicorn hair was very hard to manipulate to dark magic, hoping this was a sign she would someday be able to help people, which was her end goal. While most children seemed to dream of jobs in the Ministry or as a Quidditch player, Lennox was quite the opposite. Her idea of the future was that it would eventually lead her to become a Healer at St. Mungo's.
Lennox watched on as Lauren got her wand, and became excited for her as well when she finally landed on her wand. She felt for her when Mr. Wildhawk seemed to ignore her, choosing instead to interact with her mother. The young girl shook these feelings when Lauren had come over to her, and channeled all of her energy back to excitement.
"That's amazing! I can't believe you got so lucky, it must mean you're going to be a bloody brilliant witch!" Lennox made sure to display her enthusiasm as much as she could, wanting Lauren to feel like there was someone who was genuinely excited for her. Their parents walked ahead of them, leading them through the stores they had to go to, giving the girls their lists so they could continue to talk about whatever they had done together at Beauxbatons.
Despite how angry Lennox was with her mother, she chose to ignore it, wanting to instead focus on the idea that she and Lauren could potentially become friends. "So, what classes are you most excited for? What House do you think you'll get in? My parents want me in Slytherin, but I'm hoping that I'll get into Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff," Lennox was interested in knowing what Lauren was looking forward to, knowing that she had a very distinct traditional way of thinking about her. Granted, Lennox's parents were the same way, but the young Knightley had sworn to be different, finding the Muggle world fascinating rather than inferior, other bloodlines special rather than less than. It was a way of thinking her family tended to criticize, but she tried to ignore it. That was the benefit of thought, is that you could form your own opinions, free of judgment.

Lauren was so grateful that someone seemed excited for her and the wand and she grinned happily at Lennox, forgetting about their parents "Thanks Lennox! your wand is really cool as well! Apparently three consecutive heads of Wizengamots possessed Wands with Unicorn hair and Chestnut wood! Maybe you'll be in some sort of justice system when you are older?" She replied to the girl wanting to provide some good tunes for her as well. The two girls now somewhat friends continued to go to the shops they needed and buying the furniture given out them. Lennox then asked her a bunch of questions regarding Hogwarts and which house she wanted to go in. Lauren knew she dreamt of going into Slytherin or Ravenclaw because her mother was a past Slytherin. It would be her own way of being close to her mother even if she wasn't there with her physically.
"I can;t wait for defense against the dark arts and charms! How about you? As for my house, My top choice is Slytherin and then Ravenclaw. I'm not much of a fan for Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. I don't what I'll do if I get put into those houses. My mom used to be a Slytherin and it would make me happy to know I was in the same house as her. My Father wants me in Ravenclaw or Slytherin because of it. And he knows well that Griffindors look for a bit of trouble and Hufflepuff are just... I dont know I dont like the house. " Lauren went on explaining her wish of houses knowing Lennox had maybe a different view on things as she did. She had first noticed it when she introduced her self. The girl had trailed off when mentioning her blood status which Lauren found weird. But knowing that not everyone was like her, she just brushed it off and didnt think about it. The eleven ear old got excited again as she thought that they could be in the same house, dorm and have the same classes!

By know the girls had done all of their shopping and we're giggly and looked at their parents. It was like they were the grownups telling them that it was tome to go !
"father, its 11:30 and I'm getting hungry... can we please go?" She tried to ask politely not wanting to seem like she wanted to not talk to Lennox. Marc excused himself in front of Allegra before looking down at his daughter for the first time in a whole hour.
"Lauren that was very rude of cutting Allegra off. Apologize immediately young lady." Lauren tried to rebell a little trying to get her father away from Lennox's mother
"But I'm hungry fath-"
"Enough Lauren! Apologize to Mrs. Knightely. now." The daughter brought her eyes down and made herself small, feeling vulnerable against her father's harsh words. She stepped forward still not looking up, her back curved and her muscles clenched.
"Please excuse my rudeness Mrs. Knightley." She stepped back after and stayed quiet awaiting an answer from anyone but her. She wanted to run up into her mother's arms... but she couldn't do that.

Lennox laughed lightly at the idea of herself in the justice system, shaking her head. "The day I work in any part of a justice system or Ministry job, check to see if someone hexed me," She said playfully, picking up the rest of her books and materials as her mother trailed behind.
The young girl couldn't help but be surprised at how interested the other girl seemed to be in keeping to the family name. She wanted so badly to break away from her own family, she couldn't understand what might come from loving her own so much. But she wasn't judging the other girl, rather she was just... confused. Nonetheless, she responded carefully, hoping not to have the other girl think any less of her.
"I'm pretty excited for Charms, too! As well as Herbology, and History of Magic. I just really like to learn," Lennox felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment as she continued. "I would prefer not to be in Slytherin, but I have no true preference after that. I'm kind of set on breaking the family legacy," She grinned.
As they finished their shopping, Lennox strayed closer to her mother, trying to hear any glimpse of what the adults were saying. However, her attempts didn't matter, as Lauren tried to get her father's attention, to which he snapped at her for interrupting Allegra, forcing her to apologize.
Lennox looked to her mother, who started to speak, and quickly spoke, practically seeing red, "Maybe if you both focused on your kids instead of flirting while married, we wouldn't have to interrupt you! Father's going to love to hear about this one, Mum, don't you think?" Lennox spoke with rigid anger in her tone, shooting daggers at her mother, who looked horrified by her daughter shooting off at the mouth.
"Lennox Knightley, you apologize to Mr. Wildhawk right now!" Allegra said, looking down at her daughter. When Lennox did nothing but stare back angrily, she looked apologetically back at Mark. "I'm so sorry for my daughter's outburst, We will let you both get going. It was very nice to see you again, Mark. I hope we can talk again soon."
Lennox was outraged, digging her nails into her palms to keep from screaming. She hated her mother with a passion for this.

Lauren giggled herself nodding at Lennox "Will do Lennox, will do!" Lauren smiled at the fact that Lennox was into charms. She thought it would be a perfect way to maybe see each other at Hogwarts. She supposed she hadnt really thought about the other classes besides DADA and charms. She shrugged at what Lennox said but was a bit shocked at her saying that she preferred to get away from her family.
"I want my father proud. And I want... to get close to my mother. She's on a trip." Lauren explained trying to keep her calm. She then tried to get her father's attention but was immediately shut down and forced to apologize. She stood there admiring how Lennox took her voice and used it. Lauren stayed quiet the whole time as her friend actually stood up to both of them, something she was never able to do. To use her words in any way of authority. Her father immediately responded to what Allegra said, while his daughter was still very upset but slightly satisfied that their ways would part.
"I'm so sorry about Lauren, lets owl each other. here, let me write down our address so we can keep in touch!" He took out a pen and simple piece of paper and wrote it down quickly and then used Wingardium Leviosa without using the incantation directly out loud.  The paper made its way into Allegra's hands as they both smiled to each other before their daughters pulled them into opposite directions.
