A Bit of Exploration

Cress hadn't been in the library yet and after hearing so many students saying they were going there to study or generally hang out in the peace and quiet, she thought it was time to explore a bit. After eating lunch, Cress set off for the library. Walking in, she was surprised by the number of students sitting at tables and studying. 'Well, I guess finals are coming up, so it makes sense,' she thought.
Since she didn't come in here to study, rather to look around and maybe find a good book (she was used to muggle ones and needed to explore what the wizarding world had to offer in the form of literary works), she started browsing the endless rows of shelves. There were so many books here, a lot of them looked like textbooks that may be used for a class or for information you needed for something.
She noticed the Restricted Section off to the side and suddenly really wanted to know what was in there. Cress spotted a book she had needed to get for one of her classes: Hogwarts: A History. She wondered what the purpose of buying it was if they had it here, but then remembered that others may be using it and she'd need it a lot making it a pain to come here all the time.
Cress continued browsing the shelves.

A Bit of Exploration
Mae had been away from Hogwarts for the longest time, so returning was no short feat. She always knew of one place that she could venture to and feel safe and secure, the Library. In her first year when Mae had come to the Library she was filled with wonder looking at the shelves upon shelves of books they had to offer. It became like a second home to her, it was the place where she could relax the most. This is definitely what she needed making the trip back from her home in Ireland. She supposed that she could find an interesting book to cuddle up with, maybe make some new memories. After all this was the place she met her best friend Elsie Hoagland, she wondered how she was doing.
She entered the doorway to the Hogwarts Library. "Proud to be home" Mae sighed and said to herself quietly, not thinking there was anyone in earshot. In reality, there were several new 1st years roaming around the books or sitting at tables talking to friends. Mae blushed and felt embarrassed that she was talking to herself. She examined the rows and rows of books with a smile, "Is it just me or has this place gotten bigger?" she said to herself again. This time it appeared there was someone in earshot. She noticed a girl standing near the restricted section, looming over a book at a nearby table.
She entered the doorway to the Hogwarts Library. "Proud to be home" Mae sighed and said to herself quietly, not thinking there was anyone in earshot. In reality, there were several new 1st years roaming around the books or sitting at tables talking to friends. Mae blushed and felt embarrassed that she was talking to herself. She examined the rows and rows of books with a smile, "Is it just me or has this place gotten bigger?" she said to herself again. This time it appeared there was someone in earshot. She noticed a girl standing near the restricted section, looming over a book at a nearby table.

Cress had finally found a book that looked pretty interesting (not that they all didn't, she just fly drawn to this particular one). The book had a green cover and was an old fairy tale where the author was attempting to show how muggles may have thought it to be a fairy tale when in reality, it was the magical community that was behind it all. She had read the first few chapters which were really short and mostly consisted of author's notes on the matter.
No one was talking in the library, which is why Crescent noticed the girl who came in and said something to herself. Finding it funny to respond to people who talked to themselves (something she herself did quite often), she said, "Nah, I think it's just you, though I wouldn't know as it's my first time in here." Cress looked over at the girl and flashed her a smile.
The way the light streamed through the window and fell on the floor in front of her moved Cress to take a few steps forward so the light beam was directly across her. Cress didn't know why she found this so funny, but adding on to what the girl said and then stepping forward to stand directly in the sunlight made her giggle.

Mae studied the girl, hoping she hadn't heard her talking to herself. The girl was wearing standard black robes with bits of yellow poking out. She was a Hufflepuff for sure. The girl had big, circular glasses resting on the tip of her nose and her hair was a very light blonde with streaks of pink and blue at the bottom. She seemed nice. The book she was looking at had a green cover, although Mae was barely able to make out what it was about. The girl looked over at Mae and said "Nah, it's just you, though I wouldn't know as it's my first time in here." She flashed her a smile. The girl stepped directly in the sunlight and giggled. Mae thought to herself -wow me and her are going to get along just fine-.
Mae walked over the girl, cheeks red with embarrassment. "Wow, I can't believe anyone heard me I'm really embarrassed." she said with her airy Irish accent. Mae laughed at the thought. The girl was pretty cute, she had a round face and brown hair, almost out of one of those old nineties or early 2000's movies. She had dimples and when she smiled at her Cress smiled back. "Hi, I'm Mae," the girl said.
"Oh hey Mae, nice to meet you," she grinned. "I'm Cress. Well, my full first name is Crescent, like the moon, or like Cress from The Lunar Chronicles. It's a muggle book, I don't know if you've heard of it before." She smiled a bit awkwardly. "Anyway, I'm an ickle firstie, just exploring around the library a bit. I assume not, but do you know if there are any muggle books in here? I used to go to the library back home a lot and read all the time so I was kind of hoping to find good reading material here. If not, are there any, I don't know, like science fiction or fantasy books here?" She asked this kind of hopefully because the girl looked older and like she knew what she was doing.
Cress just noticed that not only was she still standing in the light and it was getting too bright for her eyes, but she was also standing kind of close to Mae because Mae had had to step forward a bit as a kid squeezed past her. She hopped back a few steps, hoping Mae didn't already think she was awkward.

"Oh hey Mae, nice to meet you," the girl said grinning. She actually seemed quite nice. "I'm Cress. Well, my full first name is Crescent, like the moon, or like Cress from The Lunar Chronicles. It's a muggle book, I don't know if you've heard of it before." Mae hadn't actually heard of it before but she was glad and would probably look for the book sometime. She did, however, believe that this book was most likely not to be found at Hogwarts. She was already starting to like Crescent, she was sociable and friendly, just like Mae and she believed they were going to get along great.
"Anyway, I'm an ickle firstie, just exploring around the library a bit. I assume not, but do you know if there are any muggle books in here? I used to go to the library back home a lot and read all the time so I was kind of hoping to find good reading material here. If not, are there any, I don't know, like science fiction or fantasy books here?". -So she is a first year-. Mae thought to herself, although she knew it didn't matter, this girl shared interests with Mae which is what she really did come here for including books. Mae smiled and said, "Well no I've actually never heard of the Lunar Chronicles, but thanks for the recommendation. I mean, I'm not sure I'll be able to find it here in Hogwarts though, I'm a third year and I've seen only magic books so far, I love libraries too so the first time I came in here I wanted to go through absolutely every single book."
Cress nodded. "I absolutely love libraries! That's usually where I find the best books. One time I went into a library looking for a few books and they didn't have any of them, but I ended up browsing the shelves anyway and came away with this amazing book. It was called 'Beyond the Black Door'. It was amazing! It was about being a soul walker and whatnot." Cress was getting a little overexcited because she had absolutely loved the book and wished others would read it.
"Anyway, what kind of books do you like to read other than magical stories?" She asked hoping the girl would like some of the same books she did. Not that she cared if she didn't, a lot of people didn't, but it'd still be nice. "Are you familiar with muggle books?" Cress added.

The girl nodded after Mae was done speaking. Mae found it a nice quality for someone to listen and be able to engage with. She believed her and Cress were getting along quite well as they were able to listen to each other and engage in conversation without it being weird or stalled in a way. "I absolutely love libraries! That's usually where I find the best books. One time I went into a library looking for a few books and they didn't have any of them, but I ended up browsing the shelves anyway and came away with this amazing book. It was called 'Beyond the Black Door'. It was amazing! It was about being a soul walker and whatnot." Cress said excitedly. Mae wished she could possess that quality being able to go into a library without being so picky, this year she was going to be trying that out more instead of trying to find certain particular books. She enjoyed the idea of trying out something new the next time she came into the library or more likely right now as she wasn't coming in here for any certain book in particular. A thought crossed Mae's mind. If Cress would be interested in searching for some unknown books in the library, the Hogwarts Library was filled to the brim with books Mae had never touched after all. "Anyway, what kind of books do you like to read other than magical stories?" Cress asked Mae. "Are you familiar with muggle books?" she added.
"I wish I could go into a library and not look for any certain book in particular, I think that's what makes most libraries interesting anyways, no I haven't heard of 'Beyond the Black Door' but I'm definitely going to check my local library for any when I return home," Mae responded sounding a little more down to earth and comfortable now. Cress began pacing back and forth. She wasn't the most extroverted person and had a difficult time keeping up a conversation for very long. She directed her attention to the other students in the library wondering what they were all doing. The afternoon had passed rather quickly and, having arrived right after lunch, she was already beginning to get hungry.
Directing her attention back to the conversation even though she was getting ready to head back to her dorm room, maybe to find some of her dorm mates and get ready for dinner in the Great Hall, she listened as Mae told her she hadn't read Beyond the Black Door and liked Pretty Little Liars.
"I haven't read that series. I know there was a movie made off of it though. Haven't seen that either. I was never really into teen dramas I guess," she yawned. "I'll probably head back to my dorm room pretty soon. Though I know it's only been a few hours, I'm already getting hungry for dinner," Cress laughed. "I wonder what tonight's meal will be. I desperately need some warm soup and maybe a slice of pie afterward." She smiled. "Maybe I'll catch you around later?"
Picking up the book she was going to checkout, she headed up to the librarian's desk.
