Joey sat there in awe, concentrating on every word she was saying, hardly taking his eyes off her. It wasn't what she said - he presumed he could find out as much as he wanted about the Ministry of magic in a library book - it was the way she said it that really captivated Joey. He had never had anyone to talk to like this before and he simply loved listening to Lennox speak, especially now she seemed so confident in everything she was saying. He felt he could sit here with her for hours, although, looking around, he noticed the Great Hall was starting to look rather empty.
Magical problems need a magical fix. That made perfect sense to Joey, although his mind raced to see how many magical problems it could think of in the shortest time possible. He tried to push all sorts of theoretical injuries and maladies out of his mind, opting to ask more about Lennox' mothers job.
"So they know where everyone is all the time then?" He thought of a map of Britain, with thousands of tiny, colourful pins moving around all on their own, occasionally dissapearing from one place completely and popping up on the other side of the map, with a small puff of smoke.

Lennox nodded, not quite noticing how she had really gotten his attention. "Not exactly. They more look at the modes of travel and see if there's any form of questionable activity. If they find something questionable or see the use of an unregulated mode of transportation, they can then track it to a wizard," She said, racking her brain for the information she had grown up around.
She hoped she wasn't rambling, but she kind of liked being able to tell Joey about all the things she could think of, whether it was through Transportation, or clarifying his presumptions. It was fun for her, but she couldn't quite place why. After she had stopped speaking, she too noticed that the Great Hall had mostly cleared, wondering if they should begin to head back to the West Tower. She was hesitant to bring it up, though, as she didn't want to have to go back to the dorms, figuring that once they returned, that might be what Joey wanted to do. Was it selfish of her? Maybe, but she wouldn't admit that. She just enjoyed talking to him, finding that she could lose all track of time when they truly got into a topic. Lennox was glad to have him as a friend.
"Magic is amazing, but it needs regulation. The Ministry covers all aspects of that regulation, down to a T," She finished, slightly afraid she was rambling, but instead was in the groove of the topic at hand. She figured he would stop her if she got annoying.

Joey had liked his idea of everybody being represented by a tiny pin, but was pleased to know they weren't being watched all the time.
As much as he loved being here with Lennox and didn't want to burst their bubble, he was aware they had been sat there for ages. All the food had long since been cleared away and everyone had left the Great Hall leaving them alone, much like they had done in the Common Room before they had come down to eat.
The moon caught his eye, shining through the windows behind the raised platform where the staff table was located and bouncing off the candlesticks and goblets, creating strange silver slithers of reflected light.
"Do you know what time it is?" He felt bad cutting her off, but didn't want to get caught in the corridors after hours, returning to Ravenclaw Tower.
"And anyway," he thought to himself, "we can always carry on talking when we're there."
Whatever the time was, it had gone too quickly, he could be sure of that, wishing he had learnt a spell to slow it down. He wasn't even sure such a spell existed. Maybe it was one of those few things that magic can't change - he had read somewhere in one of his books that magic can't do everything.

"Let me check," She said, pulling out a small pocket watch from her pocket. It had been a gift from her father last Christmas, and easily one of her prized possessions. She gazed over the time, standing up. "9:30, We should head back, in case we have to dodge Peeves again on our way back to Ravenclaw."
She put her pocket watch back in her pocket, now back to reality, where concern for following the rules and being punctual took reign of her thoughts. The last thing Lennox needed was to get in trouble, especially since her night had gone so well. Lennox picked her bag up from under the table, having placed it there as they ate.
"I can leave you be when we get back if you want. I wouldn't want to keep you up too late," She said, trying to mask that she really would rather spend more time with him, giddy off of the thrill of having a friend that seemed to enjoy her as much as she enjoyed him. There's always more time, you can always talk again later, She thought, her brain trying to keep herself leveled, keeping her emotions and excitement in check. Lennox smiled as she waited for Joey to show that he was ready to leave as well.

Seeing Lennox pick up her bag, Joey redied to go, scanning the table in front of him for anything he may have put down. He agreed they didn't want to run into Peeves if they could help it. Peeves liked picking on first years, especially this close to the beginning of the school year, when they were quite likely to get lost.
"I don't mind, I usually stay up late anyway." he said as he yawned, clearly getting tired after another busy day. He had been planning on writing a letter tonight - he could do it tomorrow night or in the morning, he thought. It wasn't important anyway.
Joey indicated he was ready to go by standing up and taking a small step backwards, away from the Ravenclaw table.
"Ready?" he asked, as if they were about to depart on an adventure, not knowing what mysteries they might find at the other end.
This day had been everything he had hoped it to be, and more. He hadn't made a total idiot of himself in classes, had only gone the wrong way to a lesson once - he had corrected himself before he reached the end of the corridor and, to top it all, he had made a friend he hoped to spend alot more time with.
He smiled, looked at Lennox, then looked towards the big Oak doors. Finding out he was a wizard really was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

After nodding, Lennox followed Joey out of the Hall, chuckling as he yawned, "Should you tonight, though? You sound pretty tired." The boy clearly wasn't too good at masking how tired he was, and it didn't quite help that Lennox could read people like books. She tried not to push, though, knowing that it could easily get annoying having someone always ask if you were sure, or okay, or whatnot.
As they left the Hall, the young girl milled over her day. She had set the day out meticulously, with plenty of time to get to her classes, and her free time filled with her scribbled notes and studying. The one thing she hadn't planned for was meeting Joey, which was the best surprise, especially for someone like her, who planned her day down to a T and left little to no room for surprise. "You're really fun to talk to," She spoke with hesitance, not sure that she had actually wanted to speak, but knew that she wanted her newfound friend to know that she had enjoyed spending the evening with him.
She did, however, avoid eye contact, not quite wanting to deal with the embarrassment if he had thought differently, even though she was sure that he had at the very least enjoyed her for some part of the evening. Lennox adjusted her bag strap, vowing to never take it with her again if she didn't have to. It was quite heavy.

Walking closer to the doors, he could hear their footsteps echoing around the Great Hall, making it seem even bigger than it looked.
He thought he saw something move out the corner of his eye, off past the Gryffindor table, but by the time he had moved his head to look, whatever it was had gone. Thinking it must have been a trick of the light, he carried on towards the exit.
He could feel the tiredness starting to overcome him and he thought it had felt like ages walking from where they were sat, but the sound of Lennox speaking him snap back to life.
"You're really fun too!", he said, momentarily forgetting how tired he was, "I never thought I'd meet someone like you here." He didn't know quite know what he meant when he said like you. He didn't mean anything bad and hoped she wouldn't take it the wrong way. He often felt he had said the wrong thing, although nobody ever corrected him on it.
He pushed on of the big, Oak doors open, which creaked slightly on its hinges, but wasn't as heavy as he has expected. He pressumed they must have been enchanted to make them manageable. The now familiar sight of the Entrance Hall greeted him, with its four big hourglasses displaying each of the houses points total for the year so far. He noticed all four were looking rather empty.
He closed the door behind Lennox and they started towards the Ravenclaw Common Room in the West Tower.

Her thoughts slowed to a halt as he spoke, with two words sticking out in her mind. Like you. She tried to keep herself from thinking too much into it, but her anxieties got the best of her. Despite knowing that he really meant it in a good way, her mind couldn't help but twist it into something negative, though she wasn't quite sure of how it could be negative if he just admitted he had enjoyed talking to her.
Lennox tried to keep herself from asking about it, but alas, her thoughts got the best of her. "Like you? I hope that's a good thing..." She said with a nervous smile, looking around as they walked through the corridors that connect the Great Hall to the West Tower. Wondering if she had upset him by asking, she wished she hadn't asked at all. "I'm sorry, forget I asked. My brain just gets the better of me," Lennox said, after a minute of quiet between her asking and waiting for a response. She tried to ease the awkwardness with a soft laugh, hoping that it would read as more confident than she felt, however she knew that she wasn't great at masking her emotions.
Lennox felt a bit better once they passed her mental landmarks that reminded her she was getting close to Ravenclaw, something she had chosen to do in case she had gotten lost. She knew that if things continued to get awkward, or if she had truly upset him, her dorm wasn't too far away, in which she could flee to and hide in.

"That was it, his big mistake!", he thought.
Joey ignored her appology, trying to backtrack a little, "I just meant I've never had a real friend before, someone to share things with." Joey paused, aware that any time he had opened up to anyone, it had been used against him or told to someone that didn't like him.
"I feel like I can trust you." he added quietly. He could feel Lennox' eyes looking at him and although he knew she wasn't angry at him, her laugh had thrown him a little.
"Was this what friendship felt like? I've never told anyone how I feel before", he thought to himself, smiling, as a small tear came to his eye.
After a short time of walking in silence Joey spoke again, wanting to bring back the feeling he had had earlier in the evening when they were talking in full flow.
"I think we're nearly there, I recognise some of the paintings. Do you want to stay in the Common Room for a while or are you going straight to bed?" He hoped she wasn't going to bed yet, but couldn't balme her if she was. He was tired himself, but as it wasn't even ten o'clock yet, they still had time before bed.

A wave of relief washed over her as he replied, glad that her brain had, in fact, been playing tricks on her.
"I think the same," She replied softly, smiling with a bit more confidence. Lennox wondered how he had struggled with friends in the past, considering he was so easy to talk to. They had only known each other for a few hours, but Lennox felt like they had known each other for years. She bit the inside of her cheek, trying to keep herself from smiling too much, knowing that it could get cheesy after a while.
Lennox was even more relieved when he had asked if she wanted to stay in the Common Room, happy to know nothing had gotten too awkward or damaged by her asking about what he meant. She nodded, returning to her normal, upbeat tone as she answered. "I think I'm staying in the Common Room for a bit longer, what about you?"
As they neared the door to Ravenclaw, she listened as the door spoke its riddle.
I call the trees my home,
yet I never go inside,
and if I ever fall off the tree
I will be surely be dead.

Lennox pondered on an answer for a moment, then it hit her. "The leaves!" She blurted out, hoping for a correct answer on the first try. She grinned as the door swung open, waiting for Joey to go through.
