π΅ulia sighed, feeling bored out of her mind. Ironic as it was, she felt as though there was nothing to do! The first term excitement had now, slowly, started to end, and the Christmas holidays incidents had left her scarred, and worried. She wanted something interesting to do. Something exciting. Something new. The answer came to her as she was walking past the duelling room. That's it! She could do a duel. This thought made her mind wander. Wander back to when she was 5, 'duelling' with her cousin, Emmeline. It was just fighting here and there with a few sticks and stones, and if you would have asked Julia a month ago, she would have said it as silly. But now, she'd give anything to go back in time to have that. To have a chance fix this whole disaster. To not be this girl, who was lost in solely memories and wishes. The noise of a few students brought her back to reality. She should not be thinking about this. She'd promised herself that. But Julia had promised Emmeline something different. Either ways, now was not the time to ponder on such things.Julia decided to put a notice on the notice board. Maybe somebody would notice. Julia decided to take the long route towards her common room, hoping she would bump into someone who would be willing to duel her. Smiling, she walked towards the second floor corridors. She had a duellist to find.

Edward had signed up to join the dueling club, but as a first-year, he had gotten put on the wait-list for his Hufflepuff house team. He wasn't very sporty or really even competitive but something about dueling really called to him. He had grown up with stories about honorable wizards dueling for the honor of their houses in ages past, perhaps a time that was mythologized and never truly existed, but it lived in the hearts of many young witches and wizards who grew up on such stories, and Edward was no different in that regard. Also, true stories from his grandfather, who had been a Gryffindor dueling captain in his day and later a professional coach. His grandfather was sadly no longer around, but Edward would never forget him or his stories. Perhaps it was a drive to live up to his grandfather's legacy at least in some regard, or perhaps it was because of the stories that had so captured his mind growing up, but either way he wished to one day become a great duelist. But all greats had to start from somewhere and for him, stuck on the wait-list, he realized that the best he would likely get is to watch the older more experienced duelists and practice.
And so it was that Edward found himself regularly coming to watch the dueling matches eagerly every time they were open, quietly rooting for his fellow Hufflepuffs if one were competing or simply quietly studying the duels of the others seeking to glean what he might. One day therefore it was that after watching one of such duels he found himself walking the second floor corridors, mostly abandoned this time of day after classes had ended for the day but before curfew had been called, that he was overtaken by a flight of youthful fancy: the urge to strike a dueling pose with his wand, pretending to cast some dueling spell or other that he had seen at the match; and so he did.

π΅ulia was in luck. Just as she walked across the corridor, she saw a Hufflepuff first year strike a dueling pose with his wand, pretending to cast some dueling spell. He must like duelling Julia thought, a smile creeping on her face. Maybe she could ask him to a duel! For a moment, her thoughts wandered back to the duel that had taken place earlier that day. As of late, Julia had started observing the duelling matches a lot more as she had signed-up for her house's duelling team. She had been really excited, but of course, she would had to be put on the waitlist. Right now, there were 2 people ahead of her, so the best way for Julia to get ready, was to watch duels and work hard in class to get spells. She shook off these thoughts and shifted her focus to the boy. Julia started walking over as her mind went over a million, unimportant (Or unimportant at the moment), questions. What if I make a fool of myself? Will he accept? Who will mod the duel? When will we have it? Once more, Julia scolded herself, and tried to keep the thoughts back, she could ponder them later. She walked up to the boy, perhaps a bit too quietly, and spoke, getting the feeling she snuck up on him. "Hi! I'm, um, Julia, Julia Evans!" Julia smiled, biting her lip to keep back laughter. Startling people was truly a joy. "I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with your name, nevertheless I was wondering if you would be interested in having a duel with me?"

"Oh!" Edward exclaimed with a bit of surprise upon being noticed, blushing slightly at being caught at his bit of silliness, "Hello there" he offered a smile which seemed genuinely reflected in his honeyed eyes, "I'm Edward. Edward Bishop." he then thinks to add politely, "nice to meet you, Julia" he said while dusting off his Hufflepuff robes absently.
At her challenge, a raised eyebrow and a moment of thought, looking her up and down now more appraisingly as a potential dueling opponent. He thought to himself: Ravenclaw robes, probably both smart and well-read on her dueling theory, so definitely would be a challenge, but looks to be a first-year like me, so perhaps a fair match for my first duel after all...
"Sure!" he said, accepting her challenge, a flash of a grin - he rarely showed teeth when he smiled, but this perhaps this occasion warranted a special exception...
He would have to prepare well for their upcoming duel, he knew Ravenclaws would always bring their A-game that there was nothing they didn't do without a plan or strategy, and so he would have to do her the courtesy of the same to present a challenge of his own... sure, this may only be practice, an unofficial duel, but he still wanted to not be a disappointment to himself or to her, especially when representing his own house...

π΅ulia felt relieved. The boy hadn't looked at her like she was a freak to come up and ask him, so things were well. "Hello there," he said, blushing, and smiling genuinely. "I'm Edward. Edward Bishop. Nice to meet you Julia," Edward added, he absently brushed his robes, eyebrows raised at her challenge. She could almost feel him sizing her up. Finally, after a moment he said, "Sure!" and flashed a grin in acceptance of her challenge. As Julia spoke, she could see the gears turning in Edward's head, likely pondering over the duel, and how to beat her. "That's great! I'm sure I can find someone to mod today,", she grinned and thought of a time they could meet. Students usually had free time from 4pm β 6pm. "Is 5 to 6 pm okay? It's right before dinner". Julia smiled, a feeling of anticipation building up in her veins. She hoped she was well prepared. I'll go practice a few spells today. Maybe in an empty classroom.. Julia had mastered almost all her spells, save for 3 which wouldn't be needed in a duel. If she wanted to win this, it would take planning, and practice. Like a true Ravenclaw. Even though she only had a day, she was going to make the most f it. It might have been unofficial, but to Julia, it still mattered. She was still representing the house. It would still be disappointing if she lost. So she was going to win this.
