@Raven Dark - Sorry this took so long to set up! Please let me know if there's anything you think I should change!
It was another peaceful afternoon in the library. Jack had sought to make himself another book fort with his favorite books from the history section as usual. Not only were they his most beloved and most read titles, but he had browsed them so often that he had memorized the order of the books in that section. Furthermore, not many other students seemed to take too much interest in the library's history books, so this had made them the most ideal for removing from the shelf to serve as bricks in Jack's book forts. Since he knew the order to return them in, the librarian had little reason to berate him for taking them all out in the first place.

As he went over to begin pulling out the thick tomes by their spines, one by one, the Slytherin quickly realized that several key books were missing. Had someone taken them already? Were they just borrowing them, or had said books been checked out? Pausing in the gathering of his resources, Jack decided the construction of his fort would have to wait. First, he was more interested in who had taken the history books and why.

From what Jack could tell, Hogwarts: A History and The History of Magic, both books by Bathilda Bagshot, were among the texts missing from the shelf. They were also books that all first years were required to purchase for themselves before the start of school, if Jack recalled correctly, so those two, at least, were probably meant to simply stay in the library for reference rather than to be checked out. That meant that whoever had taken the books was still very likely within the library walls.

Grateful for this small spark of hope that his deduction had granted him, Jack quickly power-walked through the aisles of bookshelves, glancing at readers and their books in hopes of discovering the lost treasures or their borrower(s). Eventually, he came across a young man he almost overlooked due to his dark hair, eyes, and robes causing him to blend in with the shadows of the room. The open in his hands, however, was definitely Hogwarts: A History.

"Uh...hey," Jack spoke up, approaching the boy who seemed to be around his own age. "That book that you're reading - did you get that from this library?"

Raven looks up from his book he was reading he sees a boy standing in front "Yeah i got it off the shelf along with some other...Why?....Did you want to read it?". Raven asks and hands him the book "Here you go i was done reading it anyway I'm about to read The History of Magic right now so you can read that one". He points to the book as he fixes his hair and grabs the next book he's gonna read. He opens the book and starts reading he glances at the boy "Did you also want this book as well?". He asks as he smiles his Irish accent comes through "Are you studying for something or is it for something different?". Raven sits that book down and grabs a different he sighs and starts reading 'I wonder what mom and dad are doing i hope they are okay' He thinks as he runs his hand through his hair. Raven watches the boy he had finding interesting "I might try to be friends with him i don't know yet because i am a Gryffindor so i don't know how he'll feel about that" he mumbles to himself and sighs again feeling a little frustrated about what he should. He stands up grabbing all the books he was and gives them to the boy then sits back down.

The redhead blinked as he was offered the book and took it, but he was too busy trying to take in the other kid's words to think of how to respond right away.

"Oh, uh...no, that's okay, I don't..."

Before he could finish, however, the other boy was asking him if he wanted the other book as well. How did he know? Had Jack just been looking that longingly at them or something?

Whatever the case, the other first-year seemed to ask a lot of questions in a very short span of time before waiting for a response. Jack stayed silent until he thought the other boy was finished, then cleared his throat to make it known he planned to speak next.

"That's okay, I don't need any of these right away," he told the stranger. "I was just wondering if they were yours or the library's. If you're done with this one," he added, holding up Hogwarts: A History, "I can take it back for you. But please, don't worry about rushing through the rest on my account. They're the sort of reads you probably want to take your time with or there's a lot you could end up missing."

He glanced at the pile of books next to the boy that Jack didn't take when they were offered to him. "Uh...so...are you studying for a test?"

Raven shakes his head "No I'm not studying i just really like reading" he smiles at looks at the boy "oh i forgot to tell you but my is Raven nice to meet you" he stands up. He extends his hands out for a hand shake. Raven grabs the books "You can use these I've read them a couple of times already so i don't need them". He smiles "Like what my mom always says Má léigh tú é cúig huaire cén fáth é a léamh cúig huaire níos mó". He sighs "she had weird sayings, what that means is If you've read it five times why read it five more times. It always confused me but i think i understand it a bit". He rubs the back of his and chuckles. "i gotta admit my parents are stranger but that's what makes them unique right?" He asks with a slightly confused look on his face. "I feel like we get all of our 'uniqueness' from our parents but it's different somehow i think that's a good thing". Raven chuckles and sits back down "um...you can sit with me you want to" He points the empty seat and lays his head down on the table.

At the admission tha the was 'studying' because he liked 'reading', Jack blinked. "Um...aren't there other books that you might have more fun reading than the ones you have to study?" he asked. "Why are you specifically reading out textbook ones?"

He raised a brow at the saying, but nodded at the name. "I'm Jack. Jack Burnett. What's your last name?" the Slytherin asked. "Er...what language is that saying that your mom says? Is it your language?" Perhaps it was Gaelic or something. "If you think you understand a bit, what do you think you understand about it? I don't get that saying at all."

Jack tilted his head at the other boy. What a strange one. "So...you read textbooks for fun and your name is Raven?" he asked with a laugh, tentatively taking the seat offered to him. Maybe the kid was lonely. "Are you, perhaps, a Ravenclaw?"

Glancing down at the books, he smirked, thinking about what the boy had said. "Er...what do you mean by 'uniqueness'? If our parents had it and then we have it, it's already not unique, right? Whatever 'it' is..."

Looking thoughtful, he looked back at Raven. "Do you know that one poem by Edgar Allen Poe? Is that why you were named Raven? Or some other reason?"

"Well the reason why i read them is because i know things if i end up in a test or someone needs help i can help them because i already know the information". He smiles "Nice to meet you Jack, and the language i'm speaking is Irish". "What i understand about the saying is that is if you've reading a book 100 times or 5 times you should know it by heart already and not have to read it over and over again". He says and giggles. "Do you understand now?" Raven says as he looks at Jack "So why did you need all those books were you gonna read them all or do something?...It seems kinda weird that you need all those books".Raven grinned and chuckled a little "Were you build a fort?". He sighs "I wish i was a Ravenclaw but sadly i'm not i'm a Gryffindor i really wanted Ravenclaw i would've been so happy" he says and groans. " Your talking about the poem called The Raven" He says happily and was quite excited "Yes I've read it before i memorized the whole thing". He says and laughs softly. "If our parents have certain talents like painting we that something unique because not everyone is good at it so if you get you have one of your parents uniqueness".

"Oh. So...you're just reading these things in case they're on a test?" Jack asked slowly. That sounded like studying to him. "Isn't that what studying is...?" Maybe there was a difference, but if there was, he certainly couldn't think of it just then.

The explained meaning of the quote only baffled him more, though he was interested to know it was Irish since he himself was half Irish. Maybe he could ask his dad if he'd ever heard of it before. "So...the saying...is to tell you to memorize what you read...?" The redhead frowned at that. "Why specifically five times, though? What if you can memorize it the first time you read it? Or what if you can only memorize it after 50 times or are never able to memorize it at all?"

When the other boy mentioned a fort, Jack frowned, certain he had said nothing to indicate such a thing. How had Raven guessed it had to do with a fort? Had he been spying on him? Or was he maybe a Legilimens?

"A fort?" he repeated, scoffing. "Why do you think that? What if I just noticed some books from the shelf I usually frequent were missing and I'd wondered where they'd gone? Maybe I just wanted to make sure they weren't lost or stolen."

The comment about his parents passing down a 'unique' talent, caused Jack to purse his lips a bit. "It isn't 'unique' if more than one person has it, though. Even if they're you're parents. I guess you could call it uncommon. Or maybe even rare." Not that he considered a talent such as painting either of those things.

Raven giggles "i used to build book and pillow at home with my siblings it okay no need to be embarrassed" Raven says as he smiles "if you can remember it then just keep reading so there's nothing to worry about" Raven runs his through his hair and frowns "i don't like calling it studying it's sounds to boring to me i'd rather just i'm reading this book just in case there is a test in the future and i'll be prepared so i won't have to worry" he lays his down on the table "you can go build your fort now i'll still be here" Raven closes his eyes "unless you want my help building i would gladly help build it seeing as how i have absolutely nothing to do at this moment in time and i haven't build a fort in a about 4 years i kinda missed doing that but if i tried i would yelled at by my father because that's childish i need to act my age even through i do oh and don't worry about the saying my mom said that it all means nothing once you get into school because you gotta all the time anyway so it doesn't make sense anymore" he says and smiles.

The Welsh boy raised a brow at the giggling noiret. "I'm...not embarrassed," he answered matter-of-factly, looking slightly resentful at the mere suggestion such a thing might have been assumed of him. Just suspicious.

The more this Raven kid talked, the less Jack seemed to understand him. Not to mention the less he seemed to understand Jack. Or, the Slytherin suspected, anything else about the world. It seemed to be becoming more and more clear to Jack by the second why this young man had been sorted into the house of lions rather than the one of eagles.

"How does calling something studying make it any less or more boring than calling it anything else? A rose by any other name still has thorns, doesn't it?" Well, not like he cared all that much what the Gryffindor called it.

"I never said I was building a fort or anything of the kind," the redhead said coldly, his indignance, irritation, and doubts only rising the more the other boy insisted on his assumption. "I just came here to find out where one of my favorite books was. Now that I know, however, I suppose there's no real reason for me to stick around."

And I thought I talked a lot. When does he get air? Is he one of those people who can breath through their nose and talk through their mouth at the same time?

Jack shook his head. "Well, it's not like your parents are here, so I see no reason not to do as you please," he told the other boy. Then he turned to go, tiring of the conversation. "Have fun with your books."

As he walked away, it occured to him that despite the other student's chatty nature, he still hadn't gotten an answer to his inquiry regarding why the boy had been named Raven.

Oh well. Jack decided that, in the end, it was something he was fine with not knowing.
