After the thrill of scoring so many points for his team, Landon was able to relax a little more this round. He didn't relax fully though, completely focused on being available to save his teammates if they needed him to do so. It would be bad if he lost his concentration and didn't see when his teammates needed assistance. Landon was happy to do what he could to help the team. Landon scanned the skies, his eyes looking at each teammate in turn, to make sure that they were still going to be on their brooms. He frowned as Damien got a penalty lap, but he knew what that felt like now.

Landon didn't see anyone needing his assistance to be saved this round, but he still stayed focused on the task at hand. Eyes narrowed, he kept glancing around the pitch, just to be sure. He couldn't help but grin a little as he realized just how many of the other team's players had been knocked off their brooms. Things were definitely going in his team's favor right now, but he knew that things could change instantly in Quidditch. If the other team found the Snitch first and caught it, all of his team's progress would be for nothing. He hoped that they would score more goals. Maybe they would get enough points that if the other team caught the snitch, they'd still lose. He didn't know. He wasn't really one for figuring out the game plan. He tended to be the one that followed the plan as well as he could.

The Hufflepuff boy braced himself for the next task, excited to be playing the sport that he loved so much.

He leans forward and pushes the broom into the penalty lap.

The air is colder out here on the edge of the pitch, away from the knot of players. It scrapes at his cheeks, stings his eyes just enough that he can blame any wetness on the wind. From the middle of the field, sounds still reach him. He can hear noises, and the clang of bat on metal.

Kiyoshi keeps his gaze fixed ahead.

The memory of the almost‑hit plays itself again in his head. The part of him that had liked the idea of a real collision. That part still smolders, stubborn and hot.

Halfway around, it seems @Jake Morris‑san is also doing a penalty lap. That's not good, they were sitting ducks out here, waiting to be picked off. Kiyoshi wants to yell something to his teammate. Encouragement, maybe. Or frustrations. But clamps down on the impulse. There's nothing he can say that would be appropriate. People are hard.

One more push. He holds his elbows in so close they almost bruise his ribs. Only when he’s completed the full circuit does he ease the broom’s nose inward. Penalty done.

He needs to get back into the action. Now. Time to hit things.

Jake was relieved to be done with the flight of shame, and get back into the game, hopefully to do his one job, find the snitch, try to catch the snitch, and maybe by some miracle, succeed. He looked down the pitch first though, to see if Julian was ok. He had been hit pretty hard by that bludger...It was hard to focus on the game, wondering whether he was ok. His stomach twisted a bit, but he didn't see where Julian had gone.

It was then that Jake noticed something strange. Julian wasn't the only one who was gone. The field definitely seemed much less full than it had when the game had started. He looked around confused. There were still people flying around, but as he looked for his team-mates, they were pretty sparse to say the least. Were they even still playing? When had everybody fallen? He had been so focused on looking for the snitch, on trying to stay on the broom, and then on thinking over what he'd done to Nick, that he hadn't noticed them falling. But no, there were definitely not many of his team members left on their broom. Uh oh....

Jake sighed. He'd always KNOWN Quidditch was as dangerous as dueling was, if not worse, but having the proof in front of him didn't feel great. Why was he always the last one standing? It's not like he wanted to fall, or get hit by a bludger or anything, but sometimes it felt more anxiety-inducing to be one of the ones still up waiting for your turn to plummet.

Jake sighed and rose a little higher. If he didn't find the snitch soon and end this his team would surely be doomed, and he'd never see solid ground again.

Friends might supposedly have been one of the greatest strengths of the Hufflepuff house, but Ginyami saw them as one of their greatest weaknesses, too. During his penalty lap, he kept an eye on the enemy seeker, watching him fly his own penalty lap while looking around - presumably for his own teammates and friends who were, undoubtably, occupying his mind. It was then it had seemed to dawn on him how alone on the field he was rapidly becoming.

The sole Mahoutokoro student on the opposing team, Kiyoshi Sato, had also been completing his penalty lap at the same time, and Ginyami noticed with interest that although he seemed to watch his team's seeker, he didn't call out to him or otherwise try to get his attention. He was focused as the Japanese often were, on the goal they set for themselves. His upperclassman ultimately considered him the bigger threat between him and Morris despite the fact that Morris was a seventh year and his peer and Sato was only a second year.

Morris was still a gaijin; a foreigner. He was also, if Ginyami recalled correctly, mumajin-born, so to the pureblood, it was really no wonder he considered Sato superior to him in pretty much every way that counted. Nevermind how much Morris reminded him of Sara off the field. Ginyami was playing to win. And he meant to win by any means necessary.

- In the role of Seeker when you have found the snitch, if someone attempts to use Alley Oop to help you find the snitch, you will not have disadvantage. However, with this broom you do not gain the +1 chance to grab the snitch for rounds that the Alley Oop is used. To clarify, each round someone attempts to grab a snitch they get a +1 to the attempt and this stacks. There is no bonus (or stack from this round's attempt to grab) to grabbing the snitch.

- In the role of Seeker, if an opponent attempts to Bludger or Blatch you, there is a 20% chance that you veer out of the way the last second and another enemy player at RANDOM is targeted instead.

Note: The new target still gets their normal dodge attempt. This is not considered to be an auto-dodge, in fact this roll is done before any accuracy rolls are done.

- In the role of Seeker, when using the search action if you critically fail on your search you get a re-roll in an attempt to find the snitch. In an attempt to grab the snitch, if you critically fail on your attempt to grab the snitch you get to re-roll your attempt to grab the snitch.

The match seemed to be happening around Nicholas. He was aware of the jeers he was receiving from the opposing team’s bench, he could feel them tug at the back of his mind, influencing his subconscious, but he narrowed his eyes and focused on the job he had to do. The bludger was his job, moving as if on auto-pilot, he chased after the ball and sent it careening at the first-year keeper, the only one of their opponents who had not been sent to serve a penalty.

Maybe taking aim at the Japanese boy or Morris would have filled him with some sick sense of revenge, but that was unnecessary. The role of the beater was to clear the field for his team, and that was what he would do.

He flew, he hit, and the girl was sent sprawling to the ground with a horrible thud. Nicholas didn’t bring himself to react, instead he only rolled his shoulder, and cast his eyes out, ensuring he had eyes on the other bludger as well.

With the collapse of both orders of beaters, he was the only one left on the pitch. That meant he had complete control of where the bludgers went, and who went down next.

Nicholas loved quidditch, he had done so since he was in swaddling clothes. Part of him was thrilled to finally be playing a position that felt right, to be doing so well at it. But it felt wrong somehow. He had come late off the bench, and had been unleashed to take out opponents who were younger, slower, and not as experienced as him.

There was no glory in his role, no danger. He was but a blunt instrument. The sixth year sighed deeply, rolled his shoulder again, and narrowed his vision. Nothing for it, he had a job to do.
