It has been two weeks since Seul had arrived here at Hogwarts. Nothing particularly eventful surfaced; even the workload seemed slightly lackluster. She expected to be challenged in this prestigious wizarding school, instead, most of her classes had been review. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t hurt for her to study a little extra; to ensure that O of course. Saturday morning seemed to be the perfect opportunity to read ahead and the library was the only place she could have some peace…hopefully.

Walking through the library corridor, Seul found what seemed like hundreds of rows of bookshelves, each seemingly more ancient than the previous row. The An manor library could not compare to this, though this was a school library after all. The room itself was sparsely populated, mostly by Ravenclaws (what a surprise). The entire left wall of the library was lined with windows overlooking the Grounds and the magnificent Great Lake. Though mundane in almost every other aspect, she admits that the school is certainly remarkable with its scenery. Seul took the table next to the left aisle and set her belongings down which included “Magical Theory” by Adalbert Waffling and “Hogwarts, A History” by Bathilda Bagshot.

Ready to begin, Seul tied her jet-black hair into a ponytail and opened the hefty textbook. Ideally, this would just be another quiet study session...

Dustin had a plan. It was not a particularly well thought out plan. It was not a plan that was going to win him any positive recognition. It was not a plan that would get him on the right side of any students or staff he encountered.

But it was a good plan.

Casually walking entering the library Dustin slid a hand into his bag. His fingers touched a smooth object the size of a remembrall. ”Good. Still there.” Dustin had purchased the item he now held under his bag at the Weasley shop in Diagon Alley. He wasn’t sure at the time when he would need it or even use it. But he knew he’d know the opportunity when it reared its head!

Dustin wasn’t sure when the idea came to him. Maybe it was when he was with Riona, and some of her ingenuity rubbed off on him. Maybe it was when he accidentally reached for his remembrall and touched this secret weapon instead. Maybe it was something Dmitri said about Dustin disturbing the peace. But the idea was there. And once it was there, it had to be tried.

Swiftly passing the few, mostly Ravenclaw, students in the open study area, Dustin passed two rows back into the shelves, noting a single person the next row over. The Ravenclaw he passed had her dark hair pulled back into a ponytail and seemed too absorbed in her reading to notice some first-year Gryffindor passing by. At least, that’s what Dustin hoped.

Leaning against a bookshelf and hunched over to hide his hands, Dustin pulled the dungbomb from his bag. ”Okay, let’s do this,” he thought.

Dustin looked expectantly at the small brown object. It had promised a horrid smell. But at the minute…

”Any time now,” he thought, quickly glancing around. Nothing was happening. It just sat there, in his hand. Innocuous and un-smelly.

”What do I have to do?” Dustin started to pick at the dungbomb. A small flake fell off, and a weak but pungent aroma emanated from it. It wasn’t enough to spread far, maybe only a few feet. Dustin began to panic. ”This isn’t enough! Why isn’t it working?” He whispered as the smell began to drift through the row.

”How do I set off the rest?” he thought.

Emeric the Evil and Uric the Oddball were clearly two different people. One was a ferocious dark wizard while the other was an eccentric, well, oddball. Seul could not comprehend how her peers managed mixed up the two. History was perhaps her easiest course, not that any of her other classes were hard. It only contained facts, not myths or legends. Her assignment required her to read the fierce duel between Emeric the Evil and Egbert the Egregious over the ownership of the Elder Wand. What was with their doltish titles anyway? Though it wasn’t surprising as they were wizards from the Middle Ages…a rather strange age.

As the girl further focused on her study, she caught a whiff of a peculiar scent. It was very faint, though definitely foul. Could it be from one of the books? Certainly leather couldn’t rot, so it could possible come from the pages. The Hogwarts library was old, so perhaps the smell came from one of those areas left uncleaned for decades. Although slightly distracting, what could Seul do about it? She knew the existence of some sort of bubble-head charm; a spell that allowed the caster to create a bubble around their head to breathe separate air, but it was far too complicated for the first year to even attempt to learn it. Not bearing any mind to the odor, the girl continued on studying.

If only that was the case.

Only moments later, Seul was struck with the most repugnant smell she had ever experienced. The poor girl buried her face into her robes, hoping it would provide some manner of filtration. To no avail, she reached for her wand and tried to wave the smell away with some spell, though she was in too much of a panic for it to be of any use. Her only option was to escape the library.

As she swung around and aimed for the central aisle, her gaze was met with the guilty offender, a thin boy with blue eyes and light brown hair. He seemed too busy focusing on messing with a brown sphere of sorts…wait…that was a dungbomb. Seul was beyond furious. With her best effort she stomped towards the boy, elbow covering the bottom half of her face. The girl didn’t care if they were in the library, this has gone too far anyways. Without holding back, she screamed at the boy: “WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS, YOU…YOU BARBARIC CREATURE!!!”

The smell was only getting more obvious, but it wasn't actually exploding. Dustin glanced hurriedly around before focusing intently on the object in his hands. "Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn!" The first year thought. His heart was starting to race. He knew he only had a few seconds before someone came investigating. Did he need to let it sit for a while? Was it a multi-use thing and this was all it did? Should he just smash it on the-

“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS, YOU…YOU BARBARIC CREATURE!!!” Dustin jumped five feet in the air at the sudden scream. He hadn't heard anyone approach, much too intent on trying to figure out how to work the dungbomb. Another first year had rounded the shelves and was stomping toward him. He face was covered. It was the dark haired girl he'd passed. She did not seem happy at all.

"OH I UH-" Dustin tried to hide the faulty item behind his back. "I mean-you should keep your voice down in the library!" He hissed at the girl, trying to pretend like nothing was going on. Dustin was a terrible liar though, so he instead played the insulted card.

"And what do you mean barbaric creature? You think you're so much better than me? Why? Because you're in Ravenclaw?" Dustin didn't know what he was even saying, he just keep on rambling as he tried desperately to figure out how to work the dungbomb from behind his back. His fingers fumbled over it. Maybe there was an incantation that came with it?

"I would think that a Ravenclaw would know how to keep their voice down!" Dustin looked around. he knew they were attracting attention. Maybe he needed more magical ability to use it? Dustin rolled the sphere in his hand. He could feel where he gouged it, but couldn't find a tab to pull or anything-

The dungbomb slipped through his fingers. Dustin's eyes went wide and he dropped his charade. He spun and reached out a hand, trying to catch the sphere, but it was much too late. As the sphere collided with the ground it exploded with a surprisingly small noise, but the smell was instantaneous. Dustin had inadvertently discovered how to set off a dungbomb. The vile scent that pervaded the immediate area appeared suddenly and Dustin couldn't find words to describe it. It was so powerful (him being near the epicenter of the blast) it felt like it was burning his nose hairs.

Dustin let out a gag and tried to hurry past his fellow first year, trying to flee the rancid smell.

Always forward.

What was the boy thinking? He had the audacity to begin insulting Seul when he was clearly guilty. Hogwarts has definitely not left a good first impression, especially with these birdbrains. Just days ago, a Slytherin boy thought he was being funny humiliating her in front of the whole class. She could not comprehend how undisciplined these children were. Did they not receive proper parenting? Or perhaps they were dropped as an infant. The boy seemed on edge, wavering in his speech and nervously fidgeting with the dungbomb. Before Seul had the opportunity to talk back, she caught a glimpse of the brown ball slipping from the boy’s hands. Her body appears to have reacted faster than her mind, as she instinctively readied herself to flee before she fully grasped the impending situation.

The ball slammed into the floor, detonating with an instantaneous burst of force. Seul could almost visualize the foul brown-mustard colored cloud of gas hasting towards her. She tried to bury her face in her arms, but to no avail the sickening odor penetrated through her defenses. An immediate intense shock paralyzed her. No matter how hard Seul tried to move her legs, the smell was so horrible it seemingly dissolved all her motor functions. No one could fathom how horrendous this scent was, but if it had to be described, it would be the smell of every single type of animal feces boiled together in a humid and steamy concoction.

The girl saw the culprit make a dash for the exit. Mustering all the remaining strength she had, Seul managed to succeed on freeing her legs. She could not let this nefarious boy get away with this prank. As he reached nearer to the exit, Seul reached out and grabbed his robes. She was certainly not a fast runner, but her pent-up frustration towards this boy exceeded her physical limitations.

“How incredibly vulgar, you indecent rat!” Seul managed to muster up despite the clinging stench. The miasma continued to follow them despite how fast they were running. The boy’s little fiasco has certainly caught the attention of everyone in the room. The girl felt horrible for interrupting the other student’s studies, however, she is a little preoccupied at the moment to do anything about it.

"IT WORKED IT REALLY WORKED!" Dustin yelled in his head as he pelted for the door. Pushing past both shelves and people the first-year didn’t realize that he hadn’t left the Ravenclaw student in his dust, but that she was instead following him with a strength and speed only wrath could bring.

As a result, Dustin was surprised when a hand suddenly grabbed him from behind and held him still before he could reach the door. “How incredibly vulgar, you indecent rat!” Dustin looked back and saw quite a sight. The same slim girl with dark hair from before had managed to not only grab, but stop Dustin in his tracks. The rage in her eyes was deep and powerful. If Dustin had a fan club, this girl absolutely would not be a member.

"Let me go!" Dustin grunted and tried to pull himself from her grasp by tugging sharply on his shirt. Again to Dustin’s surprise, the girl held on.

At this point their commotion was the center of attention of the library. Those closest to where the dungbomb had fell had clearly put two and two together as their looks of shock and disgust had shifted to rage and more students seemed to be making their way towards the pair of first-years.

’Right, I’m done with this.’ Dustin felt a strength inside him grow, whether it was from fear of being caught, or something else he didn’t know, but now he needed to prove to himself he was strong enough to get away. With a growl, Dustin turned on his heel and surged forward, pushing off the ground with his feet and ripping away from the girl’s grasp with all his strength. Finally free Dustin ran to the door as fast as his feet would carry him.

No one was left to stop him. Head down and barrelling forward no one would have been able to grab hold or bar his path without getting run over. Dustin let out a should of joy as he passed the threshold of the library. Turning his head back and yelling at the library as a whole, but specifically the one girl who’d tried to stop him Dustin couldn’t help but yell the first thing that came to mind. A ridiculous line one of his muggle friends had yelled once, saying it was from an old muggle video game.

"Smell ya’ later!"

The mood for a study session can even strike professors, it seemed. Rosalind had made her way down the lengthy flight of steps from her office in Divination almost to the door of the library when her thoughts were pulled away from xylomancy materials and onto the shrill yells coming from the usually quiet library. Was the librarian out? Or were the children simply in open rebellion, too powerful to be stopped? Professor Kibitzer let a sigh out from her nose, teeth holding tight together as she clenched her jaw. There was no time for this foolishness in a place of learning.

She heard footsteps - rapid, loud footsteps, that grew louder as their source approached. One final cry let out by the troublemaker who believed he had gotten away clean - smell ya later. Rosalind folded her arms, watching the boy let out his triumphant cry. She couldn't help but smirk until she caught a whiff of the air coming out of the library, her appreciation for his mischief suddenly gone.

The professor cleared her throat.

"So this would be your work, then?"

She raised an eyebrow at him, staring the boy down with singular intensity. The professor walked toward him, reaching out to try and take him by the arm. If he ran again, he would have to go much faster than that. Her American accent was clearly heard now that she was irritated, speaking louder despite their proximity to the library. It was doubtful any of the students could concentrate past the stench.

"I think you'll be smelling it now. Why don't we go inside and you can show me what you've done?"

Dustin was free and clear. He had managed to somehow set off the dungbomb in the library, and had escaped the grip of the only person who'd caught a proper sight of him.

"So this would be your work, then?"

Or...so he thought. Dustin dug in his heels, skidding to a stop in an almost cartoonish fashion. His heart dropped. Standing in front of him was someone who had just happened to be coming the opposite direction as him. Looking up at the professor suddenly barring his path, his joy withered under the gaze of the older, taller woman. His eyes wide, he knew this was the end. The professor did not seem amused.

"I think you'll be smelling it now. Why don't we go inside and you can show me what you've done?"

Dustin considered only briefly trying to run. If he But that wasn't his style. Messing with fellow students was one thing. A professor was a different story. For all he knew she could just freeze him in place with a spell.

Dustin hung his head, defeated. "Yes ma'am." He turned slowly back around and began to trudge back toward the library, leading the professor toward the scene of the crime, the smell becoming more pungent with each step. This was not going to end well for him.

Seul stood by the exit as the boy broke away from her grip. There was no point in chasing him any further, the girl simply didn’t have the stamina or mood to go on a wild goose chase. Sooner or later, that bastard is going to get caught, it was only a matter of time. Her ephemeral rage seemed to mask the scent for a bit, but as soon as she calmed down and took a deep breath, that foul odor battered her nostrils once again. Despite the distance between her and the bomb, the miasma certainly did not lose intensity at all. What was she going to do? All her studying materials were stuck in the epicenter of the disaster. Was she going to brave it up and reenter no man’s land or should she just give up? She couldn’t just abandon her stuff here, what is she going to do for the rest of the day? Left with no choice, the girl covered her nose and held her breath. Before she began to move, she saw the boy reenter the library with an older character following.

Sweet sweet justice, Seul thought with a smile. As she predicted, the boy wasn’t going unscathed. She didn’t recognize the professor, perhaps she taught a more advanced class. The woman’s complexion was complicated, but Seul could immediately sense the stringent intensity from her. Putting on a heart-rending facade, the girl went up to the professor and informed her of how distressed she was. “P-Professor! Thank the heavens you arrived! I was just minding my business putting in a good study this afternoon, and this halfwit had the density to unleash a dungbomb on me. I don’t know what I would have done if you didn’t come.” Seul’s gaze shifted towards the boy. Though his head was down and emitted an aura of pity, the girl only rejoiced.
