All Aboard...I Guess
Alright, I was officially befuddled. Having never done this before, I naturally embarrassed myself about two minutes in. Mistake number one: I went up to a station worker, and asked, with a straight face, "Excuse me, but I'm kinda lost. Where can I find Platform 9 3/4?" Here I showed him my ticket, on which I was to board the train for this school I was now officially attending, a school I never would have imagined existed: Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even now, I could hardly believe it wasn't a dream. The station worker gave me a look like I was teasing him, and said, as slowly as he could, "Is this a joke? There's Platform 9 ", and here he indicated a sign that read "Platform 9" and indicating another sign he said, "And there's Platform 10. There is no such thing as 'Platform 9 3/4', kid." Before I could protest this was new to me too, and made just as little sense to me, he narrowed his eyes and said, "And where are your parents? You're a bit young to be wandering around King's Cross by yourself, aren't you?" Instead of stopping to explain that I was a "wizard" and I wouldn't be seeing my parents for a while, I simply motioned to them and said, "They're right over there. I'll just...I'll just go now. Thanks for your help." I walked away quickly, and as I reached my parents, I said, "He didn't know either. That's the third person today." My mom shook her head. "Casey, I wish I could help. I used to take the trains here in King's Cross all the time when I was younger." My dad nodded "I did too, and there was never such thing as Platform 9 3/4 either. I don't know what we can do. Maybe there's a help desk for wizards?" I knew he meant it as a joke, but I was so worried I didn't even laugh. "Maybe we should just go home. At least we tried." I said, but even as I said those words, I knew my parents wouldn't agree. "Casey, no. I know this is all knew for you, and it's new for us too, but this school is your best chance of being a....wizard." My mom said, and I noticed she hesitated before saying "wizard." Yeah. Like I said, this was so completely new. Just then, I saw a girl standing about 10 feet away. I wasn't sure if she saw me, but I had a feeling she might be able to help. I motioned to my parents, "I'll just going to ask her something." I walked over, and then said, "Excuse me, hi. I'm a bit lost. My ticket says to board a train on Platform 9 3/4, but I can't find it anywhere. Do you know if Platform 9 3/4 is here?"
