Maria took note of Sean’s reply. She was happy to hear that Sean liked writing and reading as well. “So,” she started, turning to him. “Maybe you can tell me about your favorite books some time? I’ve been looking for new ones to read.” She asked Sean. “And hey, if I ever find a good reading spot, I’ll be sure to tell you.” She offered as she cracked a smile at the boy. “Although I have a feeling you’ve probably already found your own.”

Adohiro then told them about himself. She was intrigued at what Adohiro’s name meant. Her own name was rather common, so she didn’t really appreciate it. What was even more interesting was when Adohiro said that he had just turned eleven.

“Oh well, Happy Birthday Adohiro!” The young witch greeted. She also complimented him on his name and asked if she could call him Hiro. The birthday boy then offered her and Sean the last few cookies on his tray.

Maria thanked him as she received her share of the sugary treats from her new friend. This time she noticed hid bashful reaction at her compliments and his shyness, this reinforcing her decision to be friends with the boy. He seemed like someone who genuinely wanted to make friends and that is always a plus in her book.

“Well, if the cookies are anything to go on, I’d say you’re one the right track.” She encouraged, holding the cookies her hand. ”If you ever need an assistant or a taste tester, I probably wouldn’t say no, and I’d love to learn the recipe.”

Sean smiled at Maria's invitation to talk about his favorite books, kids his age usually weren't big fans of reading at least not where he came from, "I'd love to hear about your favorite books and as for reading spots, Hogwarts has a lot of them". He wasn't kidding, the castle itself was so vast that you could find a lot of quiet places to read but Sean enjoyed reading outside so he would mostly go the the Courtyard. He liked the sounds of other students passing by while he was reading, it made him feel less alone. The library was his go to when studying or even if he just wanted some peace and quiet. He looked at Adohiro who was talking about his hobbies and how he wasn't good in class, "It's our first year, you'll get better" he smiled at him noticing how shy he was. Adohiro then told them they could share the rest of the cookies, Sean took two of the three he was offered "You should take the last one Adohiro".

He then remembered the homework he was supposed to be doing and looked at his 2 new friends "It was really nice meeting you guys, I have to go finish some homework but I'll see you later ?". Sean didn't really want to go but his studies were very important to him, as much as he would like to think he wasn't behind there was just a lot of things he didn't know because he had grown up in the Muggle world and so he really wanted to do well. He smiled at them both and started walking in the direction of the Hufflepuff common room.

Adohiro smiled and he would take the last cookie on the tray. "Thank you, Sean..." He said as he took a nibble of the cookie. It was a bit crumbly, however, it tasted sweet and was very chocolatey goodness. Hopefully, he wouldn't get any stains on his hands, face, or his neat clothes, that would be very embarrassing. "Oh, you're leaving Sean?" He asked and he would glance at the pretty Marie. "Do you want to do something or are you busy?" He questioned, he was a bit worried he would look weird if he was alone in the hall or if professors saw him, they would think he was up to no good. He did not want detention at all! He did go to that dumb pool party but everyone ended up ignoring him whenever he tried to speak. So it didn't become fun at all, this is why he really hated social settings. The 'popular' people would, of course, be the main center of attention and those who weren't as popular or were shy were cast aside and ignored. It was honestly annoying that people were like that at times and it was maddening! He couldn't stand some people like that! 

Maria was pleased with Sean’s reply. She would definitely hold him to that. At least now she had someone she could talk too about books. After Sean had given Adohiro the last cookie, he bid them farewell to go study.

"It was really nice meeting you guys, I have to go finish some homework but I'll see you later ?"

“Yes, I will definitely see you later, and hey, if you ever catch me in the common room don’t be a stranger.” Maria said.

With that, Sean left in the direction of the Hufflepuff dorm. Adohiro then turned to her and asked,

"Do you want to do something or are you busy?"

He seemed like he wanted a companion and even though she would have loved to accompany him, there was something she really had to do first.

“Oh, I’m really sorry Adohiro, I was planning on looking for a spot to get some writing in and to get some alone time before class. The past few days have been quite a lot to take in and I think I need a break from it all.” She apologized to her new friend. As much as she would didn’t want to disappoint him, she also needed a bit of time to herself. She needed some privacy to write out her thoughts and to help her process and feel her new environment.

“But I promise, we will hang out properly next time. Please, don’t hesitate to say hi or whatever if you see me in class.” She smiled. “Anyway, I’m really sorry again, but I’ll see you later, okay?” With a wave and one last big smile, she then went on her way.
