Rosalyn was going as fast as she could go, which wasn't very speedy, considering that she was barely 135 centimeters tall(or about 4' 5" for those who count that way). She was late, late, late for Potions(well, almost), and she really didn't want to ruin her perfect record. She hadn't been late for a class yet, and she really didn't want to start then. She was running through the Dungeons as fast as she could, and she knew that class was about to begin, and she had maybe a minute.

Even though class hadn't quite started and she wasn't quite late, she didn't know if Professor Lesmana would start early that day, and she didn't want to miss anything. Potions was one if, if not her favorite class, and she really didn't want to be behind. That would stress her out, and she didn't want her favorite subject to be the thing causing her stress.

She kept going, finally reaching the classroom. She entered right as class began. Was she late, then? She wasn't quite sure, but she was definitely counting it as a close call.

She walked in, hoping to find her favorite spot open. She knew that the likelihood of that was slim, and she was right. Someone had taken it, which was fine, but there weren't many places to choose from. Exactly 2, to be precise.

"Of course," she mumbled, realizing that they were at the same table-thing, and right in the front of the room, close up to the teacher. Now, she had absolutely nothing against Professor Lesmana, but no students(except for teacher's pets) wanted to be right in front of the teacher.

Reluctantly, she sat down, putting her bag on the seat next to her, since it didn't seem like anyone else wanted to sit there either. She got out what she needed for class, hoping that they wouldn't be doing too much that day. The reason she was late was because there was a...mishap, shall we call it, in her dorm. She was attempting to practice her Transfiguration, but was far too tired for it, and accidentally turned one of her plants, roses(the irony of the name was not lost on her) into a needle, and she had to undo the transfiguration. She cared for those plants more than she cared for some people, and she couldn't bear the thought of just leaving the poor thing like that. Plants needed sunlight and water, not fabric and thread.

As the Professor began speaking, she started to take notes to look over later, when she was in the right head space to learn her best. She soon realized that they were practicing the Forgetfulness Potion, which meant that she needed to pay good attention, otherwise chaos could occur, and chaos plus dangerous potions equals disaster. Thank goodness there was no chaos to be caused, as everything seemed relatively peaceful at the moment. Little did she know, all of that was about to come crashing down, perhaps literally!

Did anybody say peaceful and productive class? Well, not anymore! Max had been in the Great hall for lunch far longer than he should have. He was not even eating. The situation started as him trying to flaunt over a bit of mischief, and it ended in quarrel and petty competition. He would certainly show that girl some day… By the time he realized lunch was over he was already late. Being late for Potions was not the end of the world. Not alone at least. With the challenges he faced he did not need less time to top it off.

In his hurry to get into the room and get seated he flung the door open with enough force to make it hit the wall with a bang and bounce back. He just managed to avoid the door having a meet and greet with his face. Realizing how much noise he had made, his cheeks flushed. «Sorry…» The word was all but a mumble as he kept his head down and moved through the room. His usual seat in the back was of course taken. No matter, he would look elsewhere! As he passed workstation after workstation his face deepened in color as it dawned on him that the only vacant seat was at the very front. He would have to have a word with his friends later about saving him a seat…

He approached the vacant spot but was forced to stop short from sitting as the seat was filled with somebody’s stuff. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other he put up an apologetic smile and gestured to the seat. «Do you mind?» He said to the girl sitting closest. What other choice did he have? Already while standing there, he started digging through his satchel for supplies. A quick glance at the blackboard revealed they were once again focusing on the Forgetfulness Potion. That was good. He had yet to get that one quite right.

As the girl moved her stuff he got preoccupied with remembering her name. It was something to do with trees. Branch, Spruce… Something like that. He shrugged it off as he finally sat and pulled out a bit of paper. It was ripped almost in two, but at least there were no ink stains! Setting it on the table in front of him he scrambled for both ink and a quill to supplement. As Professor Lesmana continued talking, he leaned over to the Slytherin dragging a hand through his hair. «You’re good in this class, right?» He was pretty confident, but it wouldn’t hurt making sure. He was a bit of a mess himself and to put it mildly he could do with some help.

"Oh, not at all!" Rosalyn said, beginning to move her things from the seat next to her. She was trying to sound semi-awake, when really she just wanted a nap. This was her last class of the day, and all she had to do was make it through without any mishaps, and she would be golden!

"Uh, I mean, I guess I am? Not like amazing or anything, but I know what I'm doing. Well, for the most part, anyways!" she said, answering his question. If she were being honest, she didn't really know the boy. She'd seen him around, of course, but didn't know him much past that.

What was his name, she was trying to remember. Mark? No, not that. Mack? Nope, not that either. Mick? No, who names their kid that, what was his name? Ugh, she hated forgetting things. Which meant that she absolutely could not mess up this potion in any way, shape, or form.

She began to fidget with her hair, pulling one of her curls straight before letting it recoil again, listening to Professor Lesmana speak.

"So, why were you late? I had a...Transfiguration mishap, shall we say, and I had to take care of that. What about you?" she asked, trying to at least make the situation a bit less awkward. Professor Lesmana had finished the lesson, and it was time to actually do the potion. No pressure, right? She couldn't remember if he was crazy or chill, but she really hoped for the latter, since this was one of those things that they really couldn't afford to mess up.

She hoped that his name would come up in conversation or something, because she really couldn't remember it, and that would be awkward if she spent the whole class trying to mentally guess it. Oh well, if it ended that way, so be it. She began doodling on her parchment, a rose. Ha, the irony of the namesake was not lost on her, it was just one of the things she was semi-okay at drawing.

Max lounged in his seat, leaning sideways on the table as Rosalyn told of her potion skills. That was just about how he remembered it. Of course, for himself to seem amazing, or even average, all other students would have to leave the school. It was far from his best subject. He nodded along as she talked anyway. Hopefully if his cauldron decided to vomit smoke like previously, he could turn to her for help.

«That’s good to know though.» He assured, not really voicing his probable need for assistance. He hesitated a bit before adding his question. «Have you ever had the potion you’re brewing been spat all over you?» Subtle, really subtle Max. His cheeks darkened a bit as soon as his question was spoken aloud. If he wanted her help, a better option would be to not insult her.

Trying to quickly change the subject, he jumped right on the question of why he was late. «Stupid Cuthburt took way too long to describe her prank. And I couldn’t very well walk off before the judge made a decision of whose mischief was the best!» Truth be told he had used just as much time himself, but the Hufflepuff always seemed to grate on his last nerve.

He shrugged slightly in the attempt to shake the situation off. «But you had a transfiguration mishap?» He was familiar with those, having suffered the hours it could take to correct it. «What happened? …Was it funny?» The last question came after a few seconds of pause, wanting to not miss out on a potentially hilarious story.

Max had put aside the thought of the girls name for now. It was probably as he remembered it. Branch, stick… something like that. He didn’t really want to bring it up in the fear of embarrassment. So he simply didn’t.

As the lecture part of the class wrapped up, Max turned to his cauldron and took a deep breath. Okay, this would be fine. His last attempt at this potion ended in near catastrophe, but that did not mean he would not succeed this time! Squaring his shoulders and setting his face in determination, he turned to the Slytherin once again. «Want to work together? I’m sure we could be twice as effective!»

"Spat all over me? No, I haven't, why?" Rosalyn asked, a bit puzzled. She wasn't quite sure if he was trying to joke, insult her, or just being an idiot. Eh, did it really matter to her? No, no it did not.

"A prank contest? Wow, that actually sounds pretty cool! There's a group of people that I know that...you know what, nevermind!" she said, thinking that it would probably not be a good idea to derail from the potion that they were supposed to be brewing.

"No, sadly, it wasn't all that funny. I just accidentally transfigured one of my roses into a needle, and I couldn't leave it like that. It's my favorite flower, what with it almost sharing a name with me and all! You know, Rose, Rosalyn, Rosie, all pretty similar!" she said in response to his question. She wished that she had a funny reason to be late, but she unfortunately did not.

"Sure, that sounds great! Why don't you go get the Standard Ingredient and the Lethe River Water, and I'll get the Mistletoe Berries and the Valerian Sprigs!" she said to his idea of them working together. It did sound pretty good, because she didn't feel like doing all of it on her own.

"Okay, if we're doubling the recipe...I mean, potion...then we have to get two times the amount of things. So that would be 4 Drops of Lethe River Water, 4 Valerian Sprigs, 4 Measures of Standard Ingredient, and 8 Mistletoe Berries!" she said to herself as she walked over to the shelf to grab her ingredients. She hoped that she was right with that, because they were going to do it regardless. Whenever she baked, that's what she would do, and it made the most sense for the potion as well.

So far, this boy seemed like he'd be a helpful partner in making the potion. She just really hoped he didn't accidentally touch the Lethe River Water and cause himself some memory loss, because that would stink. But what would stink even more would be if he got it on her. Now that would be pretty dang annoying.

She doubted anything would happen though, because the class seemed pretty peaceful. Everyone was doing their work and keeping to themselves(or their group, rather), and Rosie really appreciated the quiet. She worked best when she could focus, and the classroom's environment was perfect then.

«No reason!» The excuse came just a little too fast to be believable. He blinked innocently at her as if to underline it. If they were to be working together, and she did not know, he would rather no5 tell her how much of a disaster he could be in this class.

«Yeah, it is…» He trailed off. It did not seem necessary to explain that the harmless competition had evolved into a small time brawl. Even if it was all due to stupid Cuthburt. Not that it was anyway, as he had swung first, but his leg would probably end up bruising like crazy. «Hold on» He added suddenly as the realization dawned on him. «What group?»

He listened intently as the Slytherin spoke of her transfiguration mishap. Heard her say it was funny with her name being what it was. Funny, Rose did not sound even vaguely similar to Twig, which was what he was sure her name was. «Oh… No, that doesn’t sound very funny, no.» He shrugged a bit before hesitating. He was pretty sure what her name was now, with her bringing up roses. «But I bet the rose is happier being returned to its natural shape» He elbowed her slightly with a smirk. «But you gotta watch out for the thorns, Thorn!» He was quite pleased with himself. It was not every day he managed a sort of play on words so flawlessly.

«Sure!» He nodded in agreement to her suggestion and followed her to the shelf of ingredients. He picked up the standard ingredient and with a great deal of effort held himself back from sticking his nose in it to smell. Even he could see that would be strange. The small vial of Lethe River Water was grabbed and almost slipped from his grasp as he hurried back to their station.

Tripping a bi5 over his own two feet he managed to find his seat. Now it was just the brewing! Thankfully the Slytherin seemed cool, calm and collected. He swept away a bit of parchment he deemed was in their way. What he did not notice was the vial toppling over in the process and leaking its contents out on the table. Planting his hands firmly on the table he took a deep breath before turning to her with a cheeky grin. «Ready to get started?»

"Right, okay. I'll just pretend to forget about that..." Rosie said, a bit concerned at why he would ask a question like that, about getting spat on, then brush it off so quickly.

"Oh, the group? Just some people...you know what, I've already gotten a detention, I don't need another because the Professor is listening to me!" she said, stopping that train of conversation very quickly, not wanting to risk anything.

"Yeah, I hope it's happier! Though I doubt it can really feel it, I'm sure it's very relieved. And don't worry about me, I've been doing this whole plants thing for a while, I'm all good!" she said, appreciating the play on words. Ha, Rosie, Rose, Thorn, she understood.

"BE CAREFUL!!!" she said/shouted, having a miniature heart attack when the vial of Lethe River Water nearly fell from his grasp. That was way, way too close for comfort. She didn't know what exactly would happen if it were to spill and touch someone, but she had a feeling something related to memory loss, and that was not something she was in the mood to play around with.

"Sorry, but please please please be careful with it!" she said, trying to calm herself down. He hadn't dropped it, so it was fine, she was sure he wouldn't spill it and they'd be fine. She chilled a bit, moving on to starting the potion. Little did she know that it would be fine regardless, the water wouldn't do anything unless they drank it, but she'd forgotten that rather important piece of information.

He swept some parchment out of the way-her notes, but it was fine-and she began to brew the potion.

They reached the step where they just had to let it go without touching it for a bit, and she set her arm down onto the table as it was tired from all the stirring.

She felt some wetness under her arm, what wasn't covered by her gloves, and looked down, expecting to see some spilled Standard Ingredient or water from someone's bottle, but no. When Max(ha, that was his name! She hoped, at least, since it was the only 'M' name she could think of that fit) had set the vial down, it must have leaked the rest of its contents.

"I...oh no." she said, feeling everything go dark. She was quite literally blacking out from the panic that pierced through her relatively-cheerful mood. She felt herself falling, and hoped that she didn't hit something on the way down as her mind took a break from the situation as a whole. The last thought she had before completely disappearing from her body was that she really hoped the River Water didn't take her memory or something and that she would be fine when she woke up, just stressed out.

First of all, I am so so sorry that this reply took me so long, I got way too busy IRL! But now I'm back! Second of all, note for all! Rosie is fine, the water won't do anything when not ingested, she's just scared enough that her brain said no thank you! It's known as Vasovagal Syncope. She'll be fine, just scared!

This girl really was strange. She was skeptical to him asking strange questions and wanting to drop the subject at hand, only to pivot and refuse to discuss a group that really sounded like a great deal of fun. «Alright…» He said slowly while nodding. Strange.

«So herbology must be a subject for you then?» He asked and lit up at the idea. «It’s my favorite class by far! But I have yet to meet someone that agrees…» Perhaps it was because Max took the interest further than most, but he had found that most of his mates despite an interest seemed to not be so open to spending time in the greenhouses.

They got started with their potion. He could not help but release a bit of a snicker anther reaction at him almost dropping the ingredients. Not maliciously or anything, but her behavior was just so out of proportion. «Don’t worry, I won’t drop it…» when he proceeded to spill it all over their work station, he did not notice.

They got on with the brewing, and reached the point of waiting. Drumming his fingers on the table, he read the board again. He really ought to memorize and internalize the instructions. He was doomed to mess it up if not. He was pulled from his thoughts by a gasp from his side. His mind could not really comprehend what he was seeing.

The girl seemed to be panicking. «Uhm, you okay?» He managed to get a word in just before she collapsed. The girl would have toppled out of her chair and everything if Max had not intervened and leant her on the desk instead. This really wasn’t good. He needed help! How was he supposed to get that when his partner decided to nap at the most inopportune of times?

He tried to gently poke at her. «Twig?» His tone was uncertain. Her panic previously made it unlikely for her to be faking this for a laugh. But he didn’t want to rustle her too much either way. His attempt got minimal response. Looking around the room, his mind raced. He needed to do something. But calling the attention of an adult was never a good idea. If he wasn’t failing the class already, he would be if the professor found out he made his partner faint.

His gaze landed on their workstation, that was still covered in splashes of what looked like water. Of course! The drops weren’t much, but it was sure to help if he splashed iron her face. Dipping both his hands in the puddles, he turned to Rosalyn. He splashed the drops all over her. Most seemed to land in her hair and on her clothes, but at least a few drops managed to land on her face. Nervously he put one of his fingers in his mouth to bite at a nail. «If you could wake, that would be great you know!»

"Uuuurrrrgggghhhhlllluuuuuhhhhh" Rosie said, slowly waking up. For a second, she had no clue what was going on, then it came back to her. She was in potions, brewing a Forgetfulness Potion with Max, and...

Oh, right, the Lethe River Water had spilled and she'd accidentally touched it. Luckily, she hadn't forgotten anything, therefore her memories were intact. That was good, it meant that it hadn't done anything to her.

She felt that she was propped up against the desk, and she assumed that Max had put her there. She appreciated the fact that he hadn't let her add falling out of her chair to the list of things that had happened that day.

She touched her face, feeling some drops on it. Oh. He'd probably tried to cool her off or something, and though she appreciated the gesture, if the potion hadn't done anything through touch, that meant it probably would through consumption, so she just had to make sure none got in her mouth.

She wiped the drops off of her face, and stopped worrying for about two seconds, because she looked over to see Max with his hands in his mouth!!! Not only was it poor hygiene, but his hands appeared to have some of the water on it, meaning he was about to swallow it!!!

"HANDS OUT NOW!!!" she whisper-yell-hissed at him, swatting at his wrists. If he lost his memory, or died, or something like that, it wouldn't be good at all. Nope nope nope nope nope, not doing that today!!!

"Don't you DARE swallow that! Spit it!" she said, hauling him over to the trash can in the corner. She was being quiet so that nobody else could hear, because she figured the attention of a teacher wouldn't be the best thing at the moment.

Chewing your nails was a bad habit, he knew that. Often he could stop himself from doing it by busying his hands with something, anything, else. Right now, the alternative was towing a Parker bag and hyperventilating into it. Though probably a safer choice overall, it took more planning to execute than he was capable of at the moment. Rose passing out really shook him. He didn’t know why it happened, or how, but it was probably his fault somehow.

He drew the biggest sigh of relief as Rose came back to herself. He watched with calming worry as she wiped off her face. While continuing to bite at his nails he leant closer. «You okay? Feel dizzy at all? Maybe you should drink something!» The questions came in quick succession, muffled from having his mouth half filled.

It was probably him piping up that made Roses attention turn to him. He scrunched up his face as she seemed close to another fit of panic. He did not have the nerves for another fainting! But before he knew it, his hand was almost torn from his mouth. Out of confusion alone, he obliged. «Hey, what…» He cut himself off at being dragged from his seat. Her demand had been clear enough, but he struggled to understand it. Spitting was rude!

His throat worked to swallow as the realization of the situation hit him. Merlin, the Lethe River water! Eyes growing huge he worked to stop his throat mid-process. It was no easy thing. He got redder and redder in the face as drawing breath became impossible to accomplish. After what felt an hour he was finally able to break himself free of the self-imposed trance. He bent over the dustbin and coughed violently. He alternated between coughing and spitting for a good while, long enough for his throat to hurt.

When he finally straightened he was blood red in the face. «Thanks…» He ran through a list in his head of things he would never forget. It all seemed to be there. But how was he supposed to know if anything was missing? Would it be a gaping hole in his memory, or would it just be like it was never there in the first place? He paled at the thought. «Uhm… Did you forget anything? …How are we supposed to know if we did?»
