Joey was out of slightly out of breath by the time they had reached the Great Hall. He hadn't been running, but had a hurried pace about him, probably due to the fact dinner had already started when they left the comfort of the soft blue sofa in the Ravenclaw common room.
Due to the West Tower being quite some distance from the Great Hall and almost running into Peeves - the school Poltergeist, whom Joey had not yet had the priviledge of meeting but had been told to avoid at all costs by the Ravenclaw prefects - it had taken them slightly longer than he had expected to reach where they were headed.
"Nevermind, we're here", Joey thought to himself as he stepped off the last step and could see the doors to the Geat Hall ahead of them.
As they approached the great oak doors he could smell dinner wafting towards them, even though the doors were shut. It smelt magnificent. He was trying to imagine what could be waiting on the tables for them the other side, but all the smells converged and once again, made him think how hungry he was.
"So much for not having another feast." he thought to himself as he remembered his small stash of sweets in his dormatory he was debating with himself to have instead and was utterly convinced he had made the right decision.
Joey was only a few paces from the doors now and could hear the talking, debating and laughing coming from the many students the other side of the doors. He wished they hadn't been late. He hated being late.
"Do you want to go first or shall I?" he asked, as he thought of himself opening the big, heavy doors and hundreds of pairs of eyes watching them walk to their seats.

One of the things Lennox would never truly come to terms with is how unpredictable Hogwarts can be. In the walk from West Tower to the Great Hall, they had almost run into Peeves, who was known for trouble and could have made their night interesting, to say the least. She was relieved when they got to the doors of the Great Hall, a soft smile spreading across her face as she took in the smells that wafted through the door. She turned to Joey as he spoke, looking back at the door.
"I can lead," She grinned, pushing the doors open. She held the door for him, and then moved through the crowds, as if she didn't notice that eyes had lifted to see who had entered. Attention didn't really phase her, especially when she felt like she had done nothing to receive it. What did capture her gaze, though, was the mouthwatering delicacies that were strewn across the tables. I could get used to this, She thought to herself. Lennox turned to make sure she hadn't lost Joey, and, once confirmed, sat on one of the oak benches that lined the Ravenclaw table. She would never understand how a wooden bench can still be comfortable. Her eyes surveyed the table before her, unsure of where to start. "So many options... How can people choose?"She spoke aloud, along with a quiet laugh.

Joey was thankful Lennox decided to take the lead, especially when people did look up at them, although he notice it wasn't half as many as he expected. He followed her through the crowd and sat next the her at the Ravenclaw table - thankfully there was enough room for them to sit together.
Joey agreed with Lennox' remark - although the food wasn't quite as lavish as the previous night - there was plenty to go round and looking at it all he didn't know what he wanted to eat.
Reaching for some roast potatoes he glanced up at the ceiling which, he had found out the night before to his amazement, is bewitched to show the sky above it as if there was no roof at all. It was mostly a clear night with a few whispy clouds. Most of the stars were visible and bright.
"Have you thought much about astronomy?", he asked Lennox after swallowing a mouthful of chicken, "Our first lesson is next Wednesday evening isn't it?".
Joey enjoyed watching the sky. He thought this was probably influenced by growing up away from the cities, where he could see the night sky a lot more clearly. His parents had tought him a few of the constellations - he could see Orions Belt on the ceiling - and wondered if they were the same in the wizarding world.

Lennox joined him in looking up, amazed by all the stars that shone through. "I've given it a little bit of mind." She said, adding some sauteed vegetables and chicken to her plate, taking a few bites before she spoke again. "I read a bit of the first chapter of our book, just to get some background. It seems like it's going to be an interesting class." It was true, she did think it was going to be interesting, but she hadn't quite figured out why it was important to her just yet. She was sure she'd find the use in time.
They sat in comfortable silence for a few moments, taking some time to eat. "What classes are you looking forward to?" She asked, trying to open conversation back up again. "I'm super stoked for Muggle Studies, Herbology, and Charms," She said, thinking back to the books she had purchased in Diagon Alley. She had already worked to read up on most subjects, not wanting to go into any class blind. She looked back up to the ceiling, looking to the constellations, picking out Aries in an instant. Her parents had taught her a few, the one thing they had been able to bond over. "Do you know any constellations?" She asked, looking back over at him.

"I read a little bit of the book too, but my favourite I've read is Hogwarts: A History. I fell asleep reading that one the night before getting the train." Thinking back it felt like such a long time ago, even though it had only been a couple of days.
"I can't wait to get started on charms." he said enthusiastically, "I really want to learn my first spell! But muggle studies might be a bit easy for me. I mean, I grew up like that." He paused, before adding "If you need help with it, you can ask me anything!"
He stopped talking and had a few mouthfulls of food before answering Lennox again.
"I know the names of most of the constellations, but I couldn't show you where they are. Theres only a few I can find in the sky!" He looked back at the ceiling, "I know the muggle ones anyway, I don't know if they are the same."
Scanning up and down the table, he noticed most people had finished eating the main course and were sat chatting to those say close to them, waiting for the slow eaters - and late comers - to finish, so they coud have desert, usually I wide array of cakes, puddings and pastries. He overheard a few snippets of a conversation about Quidditch - he had figured out what Quidditch was from a second year shouting on the train how he was going to get onto the team that year. It seemed a team called the Hollyhead Harpies were due to play another team called the Chudley Cannons, and everyone was guessing how much they would win by.
"Have you ever flown a broom before?" he asked, changing the subject and thinking back to Quality Quidditch Supplies in Diagon Allley. He had noticed there was a new broom out, but never got to see it because of all the people crowding round the window display at the time.

When Lennox had begun to realize many of their peers had begun to finish their main course, she tried to eat a bit faster, not wanting to hold everyone else up. When she finished, she put her utensils across her plate, and nodded. "I'll have to take you up on that, I honestly have no idea to expect when it comes to Muggle Studies, but I do think we share most of the constellations if I've heard right," She said with a sheepish grin, taking a sip from her cup.
The next question truly excited her, flying. Lennox nodded, speaking quickly, with excitement, "Not on my own, but I've flown with my parents. I've been to more Quidditch games than anything else, have you heard of it?"
As soon as she said it, she tried not to cringe. She didn't want him to think that she thought he was oblivious to things like that, but she quite honestly hadn't a clue as to how much he could know. "Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come off like you wouldn't know, I just wasn't sure." Okay, Lennox, time to shut up, she thought to herself. It was times like these where she loathed her inability to stop thinking. It got painfully obnoxious at times.

Finishing off the last few bits on his plate, Joey thought about what he knew about quidditch. He knew how a game worked, it had been played for hundreds of years and he knew the names of a few teams.

"I know a bit about it." He pondered what to say next, "There's a chapter about it in Hogwarts: A History, so I know how a match works, and i know a few teams. There was a boy that was shouting about it on the train."

His eyes lit up as flying lessons sprung to his mind, although they weren't starting until after Halloween.

"I can't wait to have a go on a broom!", he paused before continuing. "I just wish I could have a go on my own before having to do it in front of other people...", he trailed off and his voice dulled as he spoke this last part. Although flying had been one of the things he was most looking forward to, he knew it would take practice before getting it right, and didn't want to make falling 20 feet onto his face a public display.

"Its not too hard is it?" he asked inquisitively, hoping she would tell him it was easy, and she would have been able to do it at the age of 3, if only her parents had let her.

Lennox nodded along, listening intently. She was glad he knew about it, as Quidditch was so integral to wizard culture, but she wouldn't have known where to start when if she had to explain it. "We'll have to go to a game sometime, they're amazing! The Harpies are my favorite team," She spoke with passion, a genuine love for the sport.
When it came to his question about flying, she hesitated. Lennox had tried flying a few times, but her family was not great teachers, and it could be quite difficult to learn. "It's a little challenging if I'm honest. You need to be able to concentrate, and balance," She spoke with caution, trying not to scare him. "My parents weren't good teachers, so I decided to wait till I got here to try and really learn. It shouldn't be too horribly difficult though!"
Lennox tried to think of something to compare it to but drew a blank. She was realizing now more than ever that she truly had been sheltered. It upset her, sure, but she was trying to focus on the positive. After all, that was all in the past, and she was anxious to make sure she would never be in the dark again. She was pulled out of her thoughts when she saw that dessert had arrived at the table. She reached for a treacle tart, taking a hefty bite as she tried to gage his reaction.

"Hollyhead is only a couple of hours drive from my house!" he said excitedly, imagining having a friend outside of school and forgetting 'a couple hours drive' probably meant nothing to Lennox, while being oblivious to more efficient ways of travelling in the magical world.

Now that Lennox had told him, he really didn't want his first attempt at flying to be in front of loads of people. The fact that Lennox had all but admitted to not being able to fly calmed him a bit and made him think at least he wouldn't be the only one that might not be any good - at last to begin with. When he put his mind to it Joey could do most things to an acceptable level, so why should flying be any different. He hoped he would find it easier than Lennox did. After all, he thought, there was no point in worrying - flying lessons were still ages away, and tried to put it out of his mind.
Realising he had just been sat there thinking to himself, Joey was relieved to see desserts had materialised, excusing him of having to think of something to say.
He laughed a little, noticing Lennox had been the first person within close proximity to reach forwards and help herself, although, he had to admit, this was definitely the best part of the meal. He settled on a generous serving of steamed pudding and doused it in copious amounts of chocolate sauce.

After she had finished her bite, she noticed Joey laughing at her. She stuck her tongue out at him, chuckling softly as she tried to figure out what he meant by 'drive'. Lennox had settled on not bringing it up, but instead, on the more important part of his statement: that Hollyhead was only a few hours from his house. "That's bloody amazing! We usually travel there by Portkey, it's pretty quick. "
Lennox couldn't help it, she had to know about driving. "You said drive... is that a Muggle thing? Something to do with cars?" She asked, trying to connect all the dots she had available to her. Frankly, there weren't many dots. Lennox thought back to flying, the known form of transportation among most magical folk. She wasn't too sure she'd be good at it but was hoping that could change, since she knew, realistically, that it wouldn't be too difficult to learn. It all came down to confidence.
She hadn't had to think of something to say while she was eating, but, since she had finished, she was drawing a blank, not sure of what to say. "Joey..." She started, the words slowly beginning to come to her, "What's your family like? If you don't mind me asking..."
