Lorelei was going to be honest. She didn't like to study in the library. It was loud, not her type, really. Though it was a library, it would never achieve the peacefulness of her dorm, being snuggled up in a blanket. But today, the dorm was busy, and louder than the library every would be. So, she had no choice.
Walking down the shelves of the large library, she couldn't help but miss home. She had a big library back home just like this one, where her aunt, her, and her cousin passed by every time to get books. Lorelei sighed under her breathe as she came upon a cluster of tables. No time to be nostalgic now, she had homework to do.
She walked along the tables, looking for an empty table to avoid as much interactions as possible. The tables were stuffed, children rumoring and talking, barely anybody actually working, except for a few Ravenclaws.
She came across a small, dusty table in the back of the cluster. Lorelei sneezed. Just her luck. A dusty table. She should've came as soon as classes ended instead of going back to the dorm to grab some things. Eyes itchy from the dust, she wiped off the table with her robe and sat down.
Lorelei started to work. She had to get her homework done now and get a good rest. After a few days at Hogwarts, she figured a good routine. The first few days, she wasn't so lucky. She barely slept trying to manage her studies. But now, she figured it all out. While studying, she kept her eye on the door. She couldn't let anybody join her and distract her. She was determined. A few people came in, but went to join their friends. Lorelei smiled, but frowned at the same time. She hadn't made any friends yet, but no matter. Couldn't let that distract her. Studies now, being sad later.

Piper walked down the halls of the library. It was cold in there. Eerie, Piper thought. She'd never seen anything like it. Libraries back home were newer, sunnier, and less, weird? Piper couldn't really find a word to describe it. To put it bluntly, she was speechless.
She walked down the shelves over to a group of old dusty tables. Each was crowded, wether it was a group of chatty Hufflepuffs or a group of studying Ravenclaws exchanging notes. She was hesitant to join any of them, each was busy with the friends they already had. She was about to leave the library and just study in the courtyard when she came across a small girl sitting at a table alone.
Piper leaned over to observe her, but tried not to be too obvious. She had short, silver-blonde hair, blue eyes and a pointed chin. She was wearing Hufflepuff robes as well, so happily, Piper walked over to join her.
"Hi there! Can I join you? All the tables seem to be full," they really weren't. Most had empty seats, but each table had a group of friends. She hoped the girl would understand what she meant. "And you seem to be alone, so...can I?"

Lorelei looked up to observe the girl. She had curly brown hair and dark hazel eyes. Like Lorelei, she wore Hufflepuff robes, and a golden and black ribbons. Yep, she was defiantly a Hufflepuff. She had seen her around before in the Hufflepuff Common Room.
Grimacing, Lorelei responded. "Yeah, sure," she said, looking back down at her book. As long as the girl wouldn't distract her, she was fine. She didn't really feel for having small talk right now. The light from the windows started to slowly fade into moonlight, and the sun started to set. It was getting late and it would be time for dinner sooner or later.
Lorelei continued to study, flipping through her books and writing on her parchment. It was defiantly different from muggle school. Back there, she could take her notes online, and be done a quarter after 5:00. But at Hogwarts, everything was done by hand, and that meant extended hours studying. It wasn't like Lorelei had a problem with it, however. She was fine with it. She was a quick writer, and not to mention a one with large stamina. She could write 4 hours nonstop and not get tired.
However, the girl didn't study. Lorelei couldn't hear any quill movement, or any page flipping. She just stared. Lorelei frowned.
"What?"

Piper fell into a sort of trance. She didn't know why. The girl seemed weird. She was a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs were chatty and friendly. This girl seemed the complete opposite. She seemed quiet. Focused on studying. The Hufflepuffs at the other table seemed opposite. Chatty and more focused on bonding than actually studying. More like Piper. Weird.
She hadn't even noticed she was staring until the girl confronted her.
"Oh!" she said, snapping out of her trance. "I'm so sorry, I just-" Piper couldn't really finish her sentence. She didn't know why she was staring. She didn't even know she was staring.
To ease the awkwardness, she decided to introduce herself. "Sorry. Heh. I'm-I'm Piper, by the way. Piper Hargrove. Nice to meet you?" she said, adding that little question mark at the end. This girl did not seem amused. She offered a hand.
She tried to smile warmly at the girl. She had been told her smile could make anybody feel better. But again, that was her mom and friends. This girl was a stranger. And a very annoyed stranger. Maybe it would be a bit different.
"Uh," she said, desperate to start small talk so the awkwardness would just float away. "Your a Hufflepuff, right?" Piper said, looking down to avoid eye contact. It seemed rude, but she just felt uncomfortable staring at her. Nervously, she played with her hair.

Scowling, Lorelei turned to the rather annoying girl.
"Piper, huh?" she asked roughly. "I'm Lorelei. Lorelei Dixon." she eyed, her. The girl seemed to be avoiding eye contact. This made Lorelei even more annoyed. "Hey!" she said, trying to get her attention. The girl looked up. "Nice to meet you," she said, to be nice. She didn't want to make any enemies. She was a Hufflepuff after all. Kind and loyal.
The girl smiled. And Lorelei grimaced. Which, for your information, was much, much better than her scowl. She had a powerful scowl. Unlike most, who had a powerful smile, Lorelei had a powerful scowl. Some say it was her best feature.
"And yes," she replied to Piper. "I am a Hufflepuff. Why wouldn't I be?" she said, showing her the Hufflepuff patch stitched onto the robe. "I'd assume you're one too."
This girl defiantly was a Hufflepuff. The robes, the ribbons, her eager to make friends personality. She paused, and observed the girl farther. From the looks of it, she didn't seem familiar, other than a few time Lorelei saw her around the castle.
"You a muggle-born?" she asked rather sharply. Not like she had anything against muggle-borns. She had something against this girl specifically.

Piper nodded. "Yes, I am a muggle-born." She really didn't mind talking about it, as long as nobody said mean things about her. This girl defiantly didn't seem muggle-born. She seemed nothing like Piper. Even if they were in the same house.
"How about you?" she asked, finally opening her book. That was what she was there for, right? Piper was okay with school work. I mean, you couldn't be a wizard without it. It wasn't like muggle school where everything you learned was technically useless in life. Like, why would Piper need to know the past queens of England? Some classes were like that. Piper didn't understand why she needed to know the history of magic. But, in general, Hogwarts was better than a muggle school.
"Anyway," she said. "What are you working on?" she said, peering into the book the girl was reading. "I just need to finish charms and astronomy," she explained, showing the girl a piece of parchment. On the parchment read her report for her class. "I'm almost done, I just need to research a few spells," she explained showing Lorelei her copy of Book of Spells.
"Oh sorry, I should let you work," she said. She did realize how obnoxious she could be. She just didn't realize until it was too late. She tucked her hair behind her ear and git to writing her paper.
