It was the last class of the day, so it was no wonder all the students were eager to enjoy some freedom. Max was a little late in getting out of the classroom. A rather fun discussion held him back, but seeing as neither his debate partner nor himself wanted to keep the charming Charms professor there for longer than necessary the conversation slowly moved out into the corridor.
What they were discussing was sort of stupid, Max could see that. He couldn’t even remember exactly how it started. Only that Ophelia refused to see his side. Something brought up in class had turned his memory to the mending charm, and he once again shared the fact that he thought scars looked cool. He was adamant that he was right, and even with the mending charm not being even close to recommended wound care he remained steadfast in his belief that the scars would look bad ass.
«But just think about it!» His voice was slightly more pitched than normal and in the excitement his accent thickened to something even more challenging to understand. «How cool wouldn’t a big scar be?» If he could only make her see this, the rest was no problem.

The charm of an argument

Charms lesson had ended, but Ophelia's discussion, which had started during the lesson, with Max hadn't. It wasn't even that deep, but they both seemed to have such different opinions about scars caused by the Mending Charm, to make the argument last longer than intended. Ophelia didn't like arguing with others; it wasn't often that she found herself doing it, and she didn't know why she was arguing over a dumb subject.
She hurriedly put her stuff back in her bag and followed the boy out of the classroom, "That's just stupid! Why would anyone find big scars attractive? I don't have anything against having one that's caused in combat, but the ones that are caused because of a charm that's precisely not for wound-care? How idiotic can a person be to do that?"
She might've gone too far, saying her opinion like that, but she believed she was right. Why would anybody use the Mending Charm for wounds when it's specifically said to cause scarring? She walked next to the boy, walking quickly to catch up with him, and frowned. "Why do you even think that those kinds of scars are cool?" she asked, "I think the ones that are caused by a dragon are cool, not those caused by stupidity." Ophelia was really using that word a lot in this conversation; she wasn't fond of that fact, but it was the truth.

He stuck like rock to the opinions he chose to stick to, but he was usually pretty flexible when in a disagreement. But there was something about his fellow Gryffindors refusal to see his side that made him just the more set on convincing her.«I never said attractive! Who cares about that?» His tone was loud. Not by anger or irritation necessarily, but by enthusiasm.
«And I’m not saying it is the smartest choice, not even a clever one. But do you know any healing spells?» He threw out his hands as if to say to knock herself out. Grabbing the strap of his satchel he gave her a small satisfied smirk. «I don’t, and I’m saying the mending charm is a better option than just lying somewhere bleeding out like a stuffed pig!» He was far from above being dramatic to get his point across. His gestures grew consistently as he spoke. «And I’m not saying there aren’t cooler ways to get scars, some face dark magic and dangerous magical creatures, of course that is cooler than healing a paper cut with the mending charm.»
He had to pause to take a breath at that. To really focus in on his point. «I am simply saying that scars, no matter how one got them is cool. I can’t see how you can disagree with that!» Here he took a breath again, seemingly trying to remember all her points to make sure he disproved them all. Remembering that she used the word stupid set him off again. «Scars from dragons are super cool, but that doesn’t stop other scars from being cool too. I would rather have one from something dumb than not have any at all!»His cheeks were starting to darken a bit but his tone and movement clearly showed that he was actually having a good time.

Ophelia was getting more and more tired arguing with Max. Okay, maybe he did get her on that point. The spell could probably come in handy, but then again, it would cause a scar. She sighed, feeling defeated, "Wouldn't it hurt, though?" She asked in a quiet voice, then, as if remembering something, looked back at Max, "Also, if one's ever in a situation like that, it's very likely for them to have a healing potion, or any other mixture, with them."
As said before, Ophelia wasn't one for arguing, so it was no wonder she wasn't good at keeping the discussion going, but she'd made it this far, might as well finish what they'd started and get this over with. "Why would you even want to go through something so bad that it leaves a scar? I mean, yeah, sure, it'd be pretty cool to tell others about how you'd gotten the scar, but going through something so horrifying just for that? Are you nuts?"
Ophelia almost walked into a wall, since she was looking at Max and following him absentmindedly instead of looking at what was in front of her. She didn't even know where they were going, The Great Hall, maybe? Or somewhere near there, she supposed. "Have you thought about that part, Max?" she asked firmly, still not understanding why the boy wanted to go through something terrifying just to get a 'cool' scar. Unbelievable.

He had not even considered it. Sure, being hurt would cause pain. But using the charm in a way it was not intended he did not know. «Uhm…» The sound was mainly to buy himself time to think. «I think Professor Townsend would have said if that was the case» He honestly did not know, but anything he could use to his advantage was wise words spoken. «So no. But a little hurt isn’t the end of the world, right? You afraid of a little pain? Cause I’m sure not!» Brave words to speak, but mostly untrue. Who would willingly choose pain? But his answer made him seem more badass in his own opinion, so he spoke the words anyway.
As he was pondering how to make his case over her next question he could not help but laugh as the nearly collided with the wall. Looking back at her as he walked backwards. Ophelia was always so funny! This time not by choice, but still. As a result of not looking where he was going he backed right into a piece of armor displayed along the wall. That sure enough stopped his laughter as he blinked at her. The armor made one heck of a rattle, but thankfully remained standing. To cover up his own stupidity he quickly pulled out the first argument he could think of to answer hers. «Are you kidding? For the story of course! Would I choose to willingly be mauled by a beast or something, no. But sharing the story and showing everyone how brave and cool I am more than makes up for it!» He shrugged as nonchalant as he could possibly manage, trying to hide the insecurities there. Turned partly back around and continued walking. He had no specific destination in mind either, just reckon Ophelia would eventually tell him where to go.

Ophelia rolled her eyes at Max's remark. Of course, he hadn't thought about the pain; the story, as he'd said, was more important to him than his physical well-being, apparently.
She tried to suppress her giggle and failed miserably as Max collided with the armor. He seemed to be just as careful about where he was going as she was. Ophelia shot an apologetic look at the armor, not sure if they could see it or not, and followed Max hastily.
As they were walking, Ophelia found a clock on the wall that showed 6 o'clock (18:00), and knew they had to go to the Great Hall for dinner. She hadn't eaten anything since lunch and was starving, so she tugged at Max's sleeve, "It's dinner time, you wanna come?"
Coincidentally, they had been walking in a direction that, depending on which way you turned, would eventually lead to the Great Hall. Without waiting for the boy's answer, Ophelia turned around, walking backwards, towards the correct direction; she was trying to mimic Max's earlier way of walking, so that she could face him, and secretly hoped she didn't collide with an armor, glancing back to see where she was going a little too much for a confident walk.

So he huffed annoyed when she rolled her eyes. It was just typical of her not to get it. How could she not? It was far beyond his comprehension. A story, no matter if it was a bit stupid, was still a good story. And a scar would work excellent as a conversation starter.
Most of the tension seemed to leave him as soon as he crashed. Blinking, suddenly unsure of where to pick up from. Then Ophelia laughed. He wrinkled his nose for a second before he too started chuckling. They both laughed a bit as they walked on.
When she mentioned dinner he could feel his stomach making its presence known. A large rumble of a growl. Suddenly his only thought was for food and the company awaiting in the Great Hall. «Yeah, lets!» He nodded eagerly before adding «I hope there’s some good stew…» The last part was mumbled under his breath. There always was, the food at school never lacking in his eyes. as they made their way. He had to laugh again as she had to check where she was going. «Careful, or you’ll trip before you know it!» They made their way through the last empty corridor and joined the hoard of students descending the stairs beyond.
