Thoughts: italicsDevon giggled at Basil’s response, as she enjoyed their hug. “I’m glad to hear it,” she whispered. It was great to hear the confirmation, which helped with her nerves … even if she tried her best not to show when she was nervous. After their hug was broken, she gently squeezed his hand, shyly pushing a stray strand of blonde hair out of her green eyes.
Another giggle escaped her lips, and she gently poked him. “I must say, that sounds completely adorable. As much as I enjoy being around you ... " she trailed off and poked Basil again, “You can do things with other people. I’m not here to forbid you from anything …” Her eyes opened wide, and she moved her broom even closer to his until their sides were touching. She leaned over to whisper to him. “Hey, how are your drawings going?” She asked with a smile, remembering that he liked to draw her. A small flush bloomed on her cheeks, curious if he’d want her to model again.
“I’d love to!” Devon exclaimed, smiling happily. She squeezed his hand again. Her ponytail swayed in the wind. She enjoyed this … and their mutual teasing. It felt nice and natural. When he let go of her hand, she gave a teasing frown. “Aw, I liked holding your hand,” she giggled, winking. She nodded, slightly moving away from him. “Ok, we can race. Any set path …. or are we just winging it?” She asked, readying herself on the broom, flashing one of her pleasant smiles.Reducio

𓆙Basil bit his lip and smiled shyly at Devon. Her adorable giggle made him want to laugh and he started to reach for his hand before Devon's tone changed. He knew full well that he could do things with other people... he just didn't know how to talk to them. Before Devon he was lonely and after she got hurt he fled from social activities and crawled back into his hiding place with his satchel and his drawings. He didn't get hurt that way. He didn't get burned. But Devon made him come out of hiding and enjoy the sunlight. He loved the way she made him laugh and made him smile.
"My drawings? Oh... pretty good. Not as good as the ones of you though!" He said. Devon asked if he wanted a set path...
"Hmmm... How about from here to that cluster of trees?" He asked, pointing to the trees a little whiles a way. He didn't want it to be too far but not too close either. He didn't really care much though because he loved racing with her next to him. Flying with Devon was something Basil hadn't realized he'd missed. The late night practices, the afternoon drawings. Spending time with her really broke him out of his shell.Have the Loudest Minds

Thoughts: italicsThe flush on Devon’s cheeks blossomed at his response. She pulled away briefly, giggling shyly. But the young horned serpent didn’t stay away for long and pulled her broom back over to his. “That’s adorable. Would you … maybe … want to draw me again?” She asked. A bright smile formed on her lips. “Actually, may I put in a … probably strange … request? As much as I love having you draw me, and trust me, I do … but, may I ask something of you?” She giggled again, reaching out her hand to his. “You know … you don’t need my permission to draw me. I’m not going to get mad at you. I’m kind of curious about how you see me … what you like to see me do … so … well … if you’re interested, I’d like you to draw me more, please. But, like, not a fancy one where I model for you … or not … I honestly don’t mind either way. I figured it would be fun either way. Sorry, I tend to ramble,” she laughed. “I guess what I’m trying to say is … you can draw me whenever you want. It doesn’t always have to be perfect and cute.”
Devon glanced at the cluster of trees and nodded. She moved a little away from Basil, breaking contact for now. She flashed him a bright smile and a wink. “On three?” She requested. Whether he knew it or not, she wasn’t the type to cheat. Might as well make it fair, in her opinion. “One … two … three!” She shouted and darted forward toward the trees.Reducio

𓆙Basil bit his lip as Kaitlyn commented that she had a request. She was one of the only people he had ever drawn so saying that he didn't need permission was a new thing. Drawing her in a normal setting... Huh that's an idea. Basil thought. Basil smiled and almost reached out his hand to grab her's again. Oh Devon, your always perfect and cute... how can I draw you any different? Basil was jolted out of these thoughts by the counting to three. Shoot-gotta pay attention to the "race". Basil narrowed his eyes and leaned forward just as she hit 3. He zoomed as quickly as he could and before he knew it he had reached the trees. Only a second later Devon slowed to a stop next to him.
"Looks like I got you this time!" Basil said, poking her friendly. I wish that everyone could be like Devon, then I might have more friends... The thought rudely made it's way into Basil's brain before he could stop it. He didn't like to think about his... lack of friends. It made him feel alone, in a bad way. Normally he didn't mind it but sometimes, like group projects, he felt left out. Shaking his head of those depressing thoughts he grinned happily at Devon, he was so glad she was here right now.Have the Loudest Minds

Thoughts: italicsA giggle escaped Devon’s lips as Basil shot past her. It wasn’t unexpected at all. She enjoyed teasing him. Not in a mean way or anything. She always meant it as a light-hearted gesture. Never to offend. No, no, of course not. But she noticed that her teasing appeared to compel Basil. Perhaps as a way to impress her? She hadn’t a clue. If his intention was to impress her, she didn’t need it. She didn’t enter this relationship to feel impressed all the time. Yet, she found his attempts to be very cute, so she often didn’t say much at all.
Devon also enjoyed how quiet and thoughtful Basil was. She was well aware that she could talk … a lot. So, when she found someone quiet to hang out with, she noticed that it also helped mellow her out, as well. To put it frankly, she enjoyed that fact. Whether or not Basil could tell, she didn’t make a big show of it. She couldn’t blame him if he didn’t notice. But she liked the reminder to slow down.
It was over in a flash, and Basil reached the trees before her. Devon burst out into giggles when he poked her. “Yes, you did, great job!” She exclaimed, gently nudging his shoulder. “You were so fast, I couldn’t keep up.” To be fair, she had to wonder at times just how it was that she ended up on the broomracing team. There were times she had to wonder if she was a good enough racer. It was very hard for her to shake off the image of falling from her broom as a young first-year.
Reaching over, Devon placed her hand on top of his hand. A calm and easy smile formed on her lips.Reducio

𓆙Basil loved the sound of Devon's laugh. It made him feel happy and giddy inside. The february air made him shiver and he nudged his broom a little closer to Devon.
"Don't worry, after a little more practice with the team you'll start winning." Basil reassured. The feel of her hand on top of his made him suddenly shiver-and not from the cold. Basil turned on his broom to face her.
"Do you want to go back to the ground? The wind is starting to pick up." Basil said. Basil moved his hand so he was holding Devons hand. The move seemed natural but the fact that he could do it at all made his heart leap. Devon is such a beautiful kind person. How on earth did I end up with her? Basil wondered. Some days he would just sit and think about that. How did she notice him when he never talked? It's a good thing I love broom racing because we got to meet. Without her I would be having a much harder time with... life. Basil knew he wasn't the most social person. In fact he didn't really like social events in general. Any sort of fall or spring ball he went to but only after much convincing from Devon and his parents. The wind ruffled through his hair brining him back to Devon. He squeezed her hand as if to reassure himself that his moments with her were real.Have the Loudest Minds

Thoughts: italics“Aw,” Devon spoke playfully. “I thought I was supposed to be known as the girl that can’t stay on her broom … I can’t possibly stain my reputation by actually winning,” she joked. All jokes aside, however, she would love to win. Whether or not that would be in the cards for her in the future, she hadn’t a clue. Then again, there was no way for her to win if she wasn’t at least willing to try. Hopefully, the team could win … especially with any contribution she’d make. Now wasn’t the time to think of such thoughts.
At Basil’s mention of the wind, Devon felt a gust. It was, indeed, stronger now. Not dangerously so, but definitely something to be mindful of. As much as she could joke about falling from brooms, she didn’t want to intentionally do so. The last thing she needed was to injure herself … again. It wasn’t fun to recuperate, even with magic. She needed to be more mindful, like not doing something stupid, like flying during strong winds.
“Good call,” Devon agreed with a nod. Her eyes flicked to their joined hands, and she quietly giggled as she quickly squeezed his hand back. She gently started to fly back to the ground, still holding his hand. “What were you planning to do after this?” She asked, curiosity in her voice. As friendly and talkative as she was, she never tried to impose herself on others. She didn’t want to tire other people with her presence. That was one of her fears, after all.Reducio

𓆙Basil noticed Devon's eyes flick towards their intertwined hands and he almost pulled away before she squeezed it. They started back towards the ground and Devon asked him about his plans. Truthfully he had none. Except maybe sit lonely in the common room and draw. Or read. Basil thought. Basil couldn't say that infront of Devon though.
"Oh, you. Just studying for classes. Maybe draw a little." He said, trying to make himself sound less looser-like. He suddenly had a thought.
"Do you wanna join me? Like we could go back to the horned serpent common room and hang out." Basil said. As Basil's feet hit the ground he felt the wind ruffle his hair making him shiver. Unmounting his broom he turned to Devon.
"So Devon what do you-". He was about to ask her what she thought when the wind ruffled her hair and caused him to stop mid sententce. She looked so beautiful with her hair flying wild and that gorgeous smile.
"Sorry, you just look so pretty." He told her then blushed.
"I mean... your hair was flying in the wind and..." He trailed off before blurting out something that had been in the back of his mind.
"Would you go on a date with me?" He asked her.
"Like, a picnic or something out on the grounds. Nothing fancy. Unless you want that." He said, words fumbling.Have the Loudest Minds

Thoughts: italicsHer sandals gently clapped against the ground as she dismounted from her broom. Devon smiled at his response. “I need to study, too … Er, actually, I don’t need to study,” she laughed. “I try to study a little each day, so I’m not cramming a lot near an exam. I haven’t studied yet today. But, yes, I’m fine with hanging out in our common room,” she replied.
Devon’s eyes glowed happily. If she had to be honest, she wouldn’t mind studying with him. The best part of it was that she was well aware of how quiet Basil could be. Sure, she’d have to tame her natural desire to talk a mile a minute, but that would be beneficial to help her focus on actually studying. At least, that was what she hoped to accomplish. Whether or not he had other ideas, she didn’t have a clue.
A quiet giggle crossed her lips, and her cheeks flushed at the compliment. Her freckles grew more prominent. “Aw, thanks. You look good, too,” she smiled. Another shy giggle escaped her lips at the mention of a date and the fumble at the location.
She didn’t answer immediately, letting her eyes rise to the sky they had just come from. Her hand played with her ponytail for a few moments before she looked back at him. “Of course. I’d like to go on a date with you.” Her hand still played with her ponytail, and her voice lowered. “And, honestly? It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or special. I’m fine with something simple. You don't have to do anything extravagant.”
The young Horned Serpent wasn’t comfortable discussing her family’s finances with anyone. While her family wasn’t poor, they also weren’t well-off. Her family lived in an apartment in New York City. Her parents worked long hours to provide. She was often given many of her older sister’s, Rebecca’s, hand-me-downs as well. Putting four children through Ilvermorny was definitely taxing on the family. It was one of the reasons why she often got excited over sales.Reducio

𓆙Basil was glad that Devon had said yes. He thought that even studying would be better with Devon around. Basil felt himself go even more red as Devon returned his compliment. Basil bit his lip akwardly and felt himself start to sweat as silence broke out between them. His frown broke into a huge grin as Devon answered.
"Great!" He said and he hugged her. Pulling back he blushed.
"Sorry..." Basil said trailing off, embaressed. Basil reached for Devon's hand as they slowly trecked back to the common room. He didn't really have anything to study but maybe they could draw, or Devon could tell Basil about her classes. He didn't ever really understand what to do or what to talk about with people, especially people he liked. His birthday had been a couple days ago and barely anyone had noticed. Not that he had many people to notice. Basil liked to keep to himself. Mostly he didn't know how to talk to people. His sister liked to call him introverted whenever he didn't participate in things but Rose was an extravert so she didn't understand how hard it was. Devon just made things... easier. Basil felt he could talk around her. His akwardness wasn't quite so akward when she was around.Have the Loudest Minds
