Sorting Ceremony 2025 - 2026

The day has finally come, the day that she has been anticipating since she was 6 years old. Every year on September 1st Marcia watched her older brother and sisters on the train at king's cross station to take them to Hogwarts. She could only watch them as the train pulled away from the station. She felt a slights feeling of emotion that she wont see her siblings again till Christmas break. She could only anticipate the day that would come for her to go on the train. As her Mum would say " Come along now Marcia, one day it will be your turn"

Finally the has arrived Marcia and the other 11 year old's enter the great hall for the sorting ceremony. Something she only heard about from her siblings. Will the hat know what to do? started coming into Marcia's mind what felt a miles a million. Will she be left houseless? what if the hat could not place her. Surely she would be in Slytherin perhaps like her three siblings!

As the first years stood in front of two big doors were guided in by a professor the doors opened and Marcia could see four long tables spanning across the entire room with kids sitting at them. As they were guided down the isle to the front of the room. Marcia could not help but look up at the ceiling, to see what looked like candles drifting from above as if they were suspended in thin air. The hall was long and beautiful with all the decorations. As they approached the front, Marcia could see there was another long table at the front what looked like the professors sat at which was tucked in towards the back further. In front was a stool like chair with an old looking hat placed on it. As Marcia and the other 11 year old's were guided to stand in front of the stool. The professor proceeded to tell the first years about the houses and rules etc, Marcia could not help but keep looking around the hall and seeing if she could spot out her brother and sisters she tried to look at the table near her right which was the last one all the students were wearing green robes, Marcia knew that from her brother and sister that was Slytherin. She could see her sisters looking over and what looked like were waiting in anticipation as they glance at her.

Marcia was so mesmerized by the entire event she got sidetracked in her consuming thoughts that she did not hear her name being called " Marcia Starvinsky" the professor called twice but her mind could not shift her focus as if she froze. Marcia, kept telling herself okay you can do this don't get scared now as she slowly walked over to the stool and sat down. As she sat down and the professor put the hat on her. It started as if it chanted, "Ah I see you think you know what you want eh" I see your a very ambitious and cunning little girl, but defiantly knows what she wants" perhaps Gryffindor would do you well, you surely like to take the lead, but I feel your path would do better elsewhere. You are after all another "Starvinsky so I know just what to do with you " Slytherin" you will be on your path to greatness. Marcia felt a sigh of relief as the hall erupted into applause. She got up quickly with a smile on her face and walked over to the last table, where her sisters were cheering her on signalling for her to go sit with them. Marcia went to sit with her sisters and brother across. She felt proud and happy she was sorted in to the house her siblings and both her parents. Her fate was finally sealed and she could begin her journey at Hogwarts. Her years of waiting and anticipation had finally come true. As they ate their feast, with lots of scrumptious goodies. The headmaster began with some announcements, Marcia could only feel a sigh of belonging and happiness she is finally home. As the ceremony ended Marcia was excited to see what tomorrow would bring.

Diana Roberts had thought the boat ride across the lake would be the most overwhelming part of the day. She had been wrong.

The Great Hall felt impossibly large, louder and brighter than she had imagined, the ceiling stretching upward into something that barely felt real. Diana kept her hands folded tightly in front of her as she followed the line of first years inside, her eyes flicking from the floating candles to the portraits lining the walls, all of them seeming far too interested in the new arrivals. She felt small in the crowd, but not entirely lost—more like she was standing on the edge of something vast, waiting to understand where she fit.

When the Sorting Hat finished its song and the list began, Diana’s stomach twisted tighter with every name called. She wasn’t sure what she hoped for. She knew what each house stood for—her parents and grandmother had told her everything about each house, and she read about each house to get a further understanding before coming—but knowing didn’t make the choice feel any easier. When her name finally echoed through the hall, she startled, then stepped forward quickly before she could think herself out of it.

The hat slipped down over her eyes, smelling faintly of dust and age. There was a brief, quiet pause—just long enough for Diana to wonder if she was doing something wrong—before a thoughtful murmur brushed through her thoughts. She felt seen in an odd, unsettling way, as if her questions mattered more than her answers.

“Hmm, another Roberts,” the voice seemed to hum, considering. Then, decisively: “Ravenclaw.”

Relief washed through her as the hat was lifted away. Diana blinked, surprised by the warmth of the applause as she made her way to the Ravenclaw table. As she sat down among her new housemates, she felt something settle inside her—not certainty, exactly, but the quiet sense that this was where she was meant to begin.

To say that Fawkes was excited would be an understatement. Her father had told her all about Hogwarts and all the fun and adventures he had with his friends there. She could hardly contain her excitement on the train ride over. When they eventually reached the Great Hall, Fawkes was captivated by the ceiling. The way the stars shone through the enchantments used was fascinating and she nearly bumped into one of the tables as she wasn't looking at where she was going.

Of all the stories her father had told her about Hogwarts one that he hadn't mentioned was how terrifying it was having so many people staring at you. She tried not to pay too much attention to it but she couldn't help but feel nervous especially as people were called up one by one to the sorting hat. She felt a shiver go down her spine as she realised that everyone would be looking at her when she went up to the hat. She didn't have much time to think as she heard her name being called.

CHAOS FAWKES. This was it, her name had been called out. She went up to the stool and sat down as the hat was placed on her head. If someone were to ask her what house she would have wanted to get in she would have chosen Gryffindor. After all it was the house her father was in. She heard a small voice in her head, the hat, speaking to her.

Gryffindor ey? Hmmm yes fitting as a daughter from the Chaos line. But I see something else... a thirst.... for knowledge..... Perhaps... no definitely that's it. Better be

RAVENCLAW

Fawkes looked surprised when the hat shouted Ravenclaw. She was almost certain she would be a Gryffindor. She walked over to the cheering Ravenclaw table as her housemates welcomed her. As the ceremony was coming to an end and dinner was served she tucked in pondering how her life at Hogwarts was going to be.....

If you feel lost look up at the night sky. The stars will light your path!

Esther, already amazed by the breathtaking view from taking the boat over the lake to Hogwarts, was struck with another wave of amazement as she and the other students entered the Great Hall. It was large, to say the least, and the hall’s architecture was astoundingly beautiful. Though, as she looked around, she swore she saw a moving painting or two. Brushing it off, she took a moment to stare at the candles hovering overhead— until she remembered the tale her mother had told her about the houses. “Gryffindors are brave, Hufflepuffs are loyal, Ravenclaws are witty, and Slytherins are cunning.” at least, that’s what her mother said about the four houses.

As the headmaster and few teachers on stage were introducing the new students to the Great Hall, Esther took notice of a hat. She thought nothing of it. “This hat is very much sentient” the voice of the headmaster reverberated through the hall.

“Sentient, I am intelligent”

A talking hat. Esther blinked and sighed, I suppose that’s how it works around here. She shook her head at the absurdity of everything and continued to listen to the introduction.

After the briefing had concluded, they had commenced sorting the new first years into their houses. Esther watched as each student stepped up to the front of the Great Hall and got sorted by the Sorting Hat, clapping at the appropriate time. Esther’s heart skipped a beat as she heard her own name being called, and she froze as the pointed hat was placed on her head. Half with excitement, half with the strange feeling of having a sentient— no, intelligent being on her head.

Now, Esther didn’t exactly have a preference as to what house she was in. Each house had great attributes, so when the hat’s voice rang out, loud and clear: “Hufflepuff!” She wasn’t particularly upset of happy.

Esther let a small smile appear on her face. Her very first house. She thanked the Sorting Hat for taking the time to assign her to her house and sat down at the Hufflepuff table— she was glad. They seemed like a welcoming group.
Esther watched on as the other students were sorted, but she was thinking about other things. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw, her grandfather: a Gryffindor. Esther had never heard much about Hufflepuff.

This was going to be quite the journey. Being sorted? Only the first step, but Esther anticipated this to be the start of an exciting new chapter.

The day had finally come. Izzy Starlight walked into the Great Hall for the first time in her life. She drew in a breath as she saw the floating candles and the 4 tables packed with students. And the ceiling! The ceiling was midnight blue, with little, twinkling stars brightening the fake sky. Although Izzy hadn’t ever been to the Great Hall, she had read Hogwarts, A History because it was one of her school books. She had gotten so excited over the summer, she couldn’t wait to crack open her books. She read that the Great Hall ceiling was enchanted to look like the real sky outside.
She followed the rest of the first years to the front of the room. She watched as the other kids got sorted into different houses. She had learned from her mother that different houses had different traits. Gryffindors were brave, Hufflepuffs were loyal, Ravenclaws were smart, and Slytherins were cunning.
Izzy thought that she was most likely to be put in Ravenclaw, since she was very smart and she loved school. Her mother had been placed in Gryffindor, which would also be cool, but Izzy wasn’t very brave. She was sometimes pretty shy, and she was afraid of many things. She hoped she wouldn’t be placed in Slytherin, since all of the evil wizards and witches had come from Slytherin. She could be placed in Hufflepuff, since she was very kind and loyal, but she thought that she was more of a Ravenclaw.
“Starlight, Izzy!” This was it! Izzy was about to get sorted! She walked up the steps and sat down on the stool. She placed the Sorting Hat on her head and listened to the Sorting Hat.
“Hmm…very smart, I see…loyal, too…better be…HUFFLEPUFF!” Izzy stood up and walked over to the table with the kids who were clapping the loudest. Although she wasn’t in Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff would be good, too! Izzy was determined to have a great year, no matter what house she was in!

The trip from London had been long, Iveline was already exhausted but the night was nowhere near done. She was queazy from the boat ride, mixed with the nervousness of the sorting. Her hands were shaking and she kept fiddling with a bracelet her cousin had made her the las time they visited the farm. There were many other students around her, she wanted to talk to someone, but what would she even say? She just stood there alone waiting for her turn, Professor Leer listed off name after name the hat shouting out house by house. Everything was alphabetical, Dixon was going to be soon. She hoped nobody could see how freakishly nervous she was.

A few names later and she heard it "Dixon, Iveline." She froze and the cold sweats got worse. She managed to start moving slowly approaching the three-legged stool where the hat was. The headmaster gave her a soft nod, but his face was still stern. She sat down and he place the hat on her head. Iveline heard a voice, it was the hat "So another Dixon huh? Stressed are we... Intelligent thats sure... caring and lots of creativity... hmmm... better be... RAVENCLAW!!!" Iveline stood back up and walked over to the Ravenclaw table. some of the students around smiled and said hi or welcome to her, but she was just relieved that she could relax now.

To say Marcella was amazed would be the literal understatement of the century. All the wonders and beauty Marcella had known her entire life paled at the sight of the Hogwarts castle. She couldn't believe her eyes, nor anything at all. The fact that she will be living here excited her, but it also made her nervous. What if the sorting hat found it hard to place her in any house, so it decides that Marcella has made a mistake and they send her back to her family? What if she embarrasses herself, like tripping on her way to get sorted? She flushed a shade darker at the thought. After the students had lined up, Marcella s stood there alone waiting for her turn, as Professor Leer listed off name after name, the hat shouting out house by house. Everything was alphabetical, and di Angelo would be next. She hoped she didn't embarrass herself. She really did not want to be known as 'the girl who tripped on her way to get sorted' for the rest of her school life. She internally groaned as her nervousness made her hands shake.

A few names later, and she heard her. "di Angel0, Marcella!" She slowly approached the three-legged stool where the hat was. The headmaster gave her a soft nod, but his face was still stern. She sat down, and he placed the hat on her head. I

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

A place that Valeria can't imagined going to. Not once in her lifetime until that letter came flying through the darn letterbox slot when she was exiting her kitchen to head up to her bedroom with a popsicle in her right hand. And it stabbed her right in her stomach causing her to double over but never letting go of her precious popsicle. In cursive writing was her name, her address and from Hogwarts School itself. "What...?", she uttered under her breath as she picked it up, walked back into the kitchen where her mother was and held it up. "Mom. There's a weird letter."

Flashing back to the present as she walked alongside other bright-eyed 11 years-old students walking and chattering from the Hogwarts Express all the way to the little boats that carried them over the lake to the giant mahogany double doors that parted, revealing the majesty of its hall.

"Is this even real...?", Valeria uttered under her breathe, her eyes wide and discerning to look left and right. Floating candles. Various sizes of talking portraits. Four long tables that was mostly occupied by students giving them every sort of look one could imagine. "Wait til I come home to tell mom and dad about this wild experience..."

It was pretty valid of her fellow peers to actually give her weird looks. Stopping by the space right in front of this mic stand as Valeria would put it in a Muggle sense, the headmaster made a speech.. sort of. Until another voice spoke.

"Sentient. I am intelligent."

That alone had her peering over the top of the students in front of her and saw a pointy, worn hat held by one of the Professors that seemed to move on its own accord. The sight frightened the poor girl and she hoped for the best that nothing would frighten her beyond a talking hat if she had to spend seven years of education here. With the welcoming speech and short summary about that hat, it all begun with commanding one student after another to take up the mantle and sit on that stool to be sorted.

Fifteen names and it called out. "Cain, Valeria!" The disgruntled girl had to wonder why it had to announce each student's name to the whole world while walking up to the stool and hopping onto it. With the old hat placed upon her head, it paused for a bit. Probably for some dramatic effect. She waited. It waited and then spoke.

"It's hard to tell where your thoughts are at now.. Confused indeed.. Yet Loyal.. Willing to put in hard work... I see.. Hmm... better be HUFFLEPUFF!"

Cheers erupted from the Hufflepuff table as the hat got slid off the top of her head and truth be told, she had never been this wholly welcomed before. Combing down her slightly tousled hair from having the hat on, she sauntered over to the table with a slight slouch and sat alongside the new Hufflepuffs.

Now all Valeria had to do was to see where this journey would take her to in this new world.

Great Hall | The Sorting Hat | 1st September

Ava entered the Great Hall, and just like her Dad described it, it was beautiful. The night sky was pretty, and the candles floating overhead, it was like her father purposely left out such beautiful details. The Hall was crowded with students, they were loud for sure. But Ava was just too busy looking at the sky that she didn't paid much attention to the crowd. But her attention was easily grabbed by the loud voice of a long bearded man. 'Headmaster...' Ava remember seeing the man just a few minutes back at the entrance. When suddenly a voice was heard, 'The Hat speaks?! Papa, really missed on some heavy details huh..' And suddenly, if there were anymore surprises, the hat started singing a song. The song was long and bit boring, but Ava still applauded, she didn't wanted to be rude. Plus she appreciated the efforts.

When everything was done, the Professor started calling on the kids. When finally it was Ava's turn, she slowly walked to the stool in front of her, making her way from the crowd. Not wanting to look at anyone, she kept her head low, looking at her feet. Trying her best not to accidentally trip on air. Ava was trying her hard not look at the crowd in front of her. But soon the hat would cover the crowd anyway. Her thoughts running in all directions, from 'what types of people she might encounter' to the most important one 'which house she will be a part of.' Whatever it be, the only think she hopped for is for everyone to like her. Maybe with her people pleasing habits, she might be a Hufflepuff. But the hat had other plans for her. The groggy voice of the Sorting Hat rang in her ears, "You want to prove yourself, hmm... Could do anything for friends.. Brave... Loyal..." Ava wanted to be a Hufflepuff, also that was the only house that matched her. She wasn't that confident like a Gryffindor. Or as Ambitious as Slytherin, she didn't even know what she wants. Or is smart enough to be a- "RAVENCLAW!"

Out of all the houses, a Ravenclaw? She didn't expected that, is she even smart or wise enough to be a Ravenclaw? But the decision was made by the hat. She couldn't understand why she was chosen to be one. But regardless any of that, she made her way to the Ravenclaw table which was now applausing for her. Maybe, this was supposed to happen, Ava was just glad, she found a house.

Sorting Ceremony 2025 - 2026
Maury shuffled into the great hall with the other wide eyed first years. His mother had always told him crazy stories about this place and didn’t know whether to believe it or not. But seeing the great hall made him think that maybe she wasn’t embellishing.

While waiting for his turn getting sorted, Maury started getting really nervous. Which house could he possibly end up in? Would he fit in or be an outcast? What if the sorting hat didn’t know where to put him?

“Smithsonian, Maury.”

Maury was shaking as he walked up to the sorting hat but he barely even noticed because he was so in his head. He put the sorting hat on and heard a voice in his head.

“Hmm yes… much knowledge… likes bugs… interesting… must be-“

RAVENCLAW

A sense of calm ran through Maury. A grin peeked on his face as he took the hat off and set it back down on the stool. Maury went to his new houses table with a skip in his step. Of course he was in Ravenclaw! It all made sense now. Before, he could have thought he’d end up in any one but now that he was sorted it seemed so clear, there was no place for him besides Ravenclaw.

Maury sat down next to some cheering second years and giddy first years also newly sorted. He couldn’t wipe the smile off of his face.
