﹕backdated to before the first year﹕
PLATFORM 93/4 WAS crowded, as expected. It was quite a big day, after all. September 1st. Families and their children made their way closer to the Hogwarts Express – the larger-than-life locomotive waiting to take them to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The Morgans crossed the barrier with much enthusiasm, as Arabella couldn't keep herself from smiling, hand resting on her son's shoulder as he pushed his cart forward. Since breakfast, the woman couldn't keep still, either hushing about how proud she was to whining about how much she'd miss her boy.

Despite her innocent offer, he refused to get a tarot reading that morning. He'd rather face whatever the cards had in store for him when he got to it, no matter if it was a 3 of Swords or a 10 of Cups.

Jude Morgan had two trunks with him, along with his pet's cage, wearing a black robe over his Muggle clothes, one of Mother's fuzzy scarves around his neck, and hanging off his left shoulder. It wasn't cold, mind you, but he didn't have the guts to tell Mom to stop as she wrapped it around him and kissed the top of his head. He caught the tears in the corners of her eyes and figured she needed to give him the scarf more than he needed to have it.

He'd miss her so much. Mother was the only constant thing in his life. No matter how many ups and downs they faced, they had always faced them together. Arabella was like a gentle spring morning to him, cozy, welcoming, and she smelled great, just like the flowers from their backyard; a lovely woman who deserved far more than what fate had given her. If he had been blessed with the power to go back in time and fix things, he would've done it in an instant to make it so that his mother was the most loved person in the whole world. And even that, it wouldn't be nearly enough for what she deserved.

They approached the locomotive, making sure to leave room for the rushed teenagers trying to get the best seats in the Express. Honestly, Jude had no preference. He just wanted to sit with someone cool. He wouldn't survive a long trip without someone to talk to, after all.

"You promise me you'll write," Mother said at last, keeping her hands on his shoulder. Instead of looking at him, her eyes had drifted to the Express, though he had a small feeling she wasn't thinking much about trains, but rather, its destination. "I want you to be happy and safe. Hogwarts is a wonderful place, Ju. And I know you're going to make amazing friends and achieve so much,"

Jude smiled. "Of course, I'll write, mum. Can't risk having you snooping in the cards until you get paper cuts,"

The words made her laugh, as she tucked some loose strands of her hair behind her ear. Seeing her like this helped with his anxiety; his stomach no longer turned like a hurricane in him. It was easy to pretend he wasn't freaking out over being sent to a magical boarding school for months when his mother looked so happy for him.

Arabella's gaze darted from the train to something behind him. "Oh, look, Ju. Isn't that your friend?"

Furrowing his eyebrows, Jude looked over his shoulder, confused as to what she could have possibly meant by that. Friend? He hadn't had a chance to make a singular wizard friend yet. He was counting on the Hogwarts Express helping with that.

He froze when he realized Mother was talking about that spoiled brat from the Weasley's Wizards Wheezes.

Evaline was having a good day. Superlative, in fact. It was mayhap the most important day in her life! She was off too Hogwarts!

And that morning, she had woke up, and her hair was perfectly set in inky curls, and her mascara didn't run dry at all, and Hugh had bought her about seven pairs of new shoes. Today was, in fact, a good day.

And now, her, Alara, her sister-in-law, and her band of monkey brothers were here; Viktor, Dante, Ian, Enoch, Edmund, and Hugh. Royce, wasn't there though, he was off somewhere with his girlfriend, Lyra. Her 3 nieces, Estelle, Dollie, and Amber were with her as well, and so was her vexing nephew, Teddy. Ugh. How could someones nephew be older than them?

It was a zoo, with all these people. Her brothers were pushing her cart, and boy, was it big. When Edmund had told her that she wasn't usually allowed to bring 9 bags, she almost broke down in tears. But it was fine, cause she just made Enoch magic everything inside 4 pink and black leather trunks.

She held Alara with her right hand, and her left was holding Estelle on her hip. The 2 year old grabbed her hair and shook it around. Her perfect curls! Evaline yanked the hair out of the toddlers hand. " No. Stella. No." She muttered, patting it back into place as if she cared how she looked. Usually, she really didn't, to an extent. But today had to be perfect. It just had too.

Eva was wearing a fitted pink sweater and a black plaid skirt, and fishnet tights. Her curls were piled on her head in a delicate flower clip. She would probably break it soon.

" Now, remember to always do your homework on time! Okay? And pay attention in class. And don't you dare try and sneak out after hours, " Alara rambled, pulling Evaline on. The monkey band ( her family) were in front of them, laughing and joking around as they pushed Evalines cart-"And no hair-removing potions, got it? And absolutely NO shoving pepper sticks u-" Alara was cut off because Teddy began to fake wail in a horrible, vexing manner.

" Noooo! How will I survive, how will I live without Evieeee...!" He sobbed, taking one of her pale hands and continued to mock-lament over it. Evaline snatched her hand away, and smacked him on the head.

" Shut up Ted! People are looking!" She muttered, but couldn't hide the smile growing on her lips. Teddy always found ways to make her smile. He fell into step beside her and Alara. Estelle babbled in Russian, saying a few English words here and there. Teddy began to yap again, even louder.

" закрой свой рот люди смотят!! ""Shut your yapper, people are watching!"
Evaline hissed at Teddy.

Then she spotted someone that made her blood run cold. (It really wasn't that bad, but she was just dramatic, so yes.)

It was that little muggle boy, the arrogant one that she had the pleasure of meeting. What was his name? Jerry? John? He was with his mother, a nice lady, with remarkable fashion sense. Poor woman had to take up with the likes of him. It looked like the mother had already seen Evaline.

Damn it all to hell.

She had to meet him. She wasn't raised as a coward. Evaline shoved Estelle into Teddy's arms, and put her angel face back on.

" Why, hello miss! What a pleasure to see you again! And look, its- er- Jeffery!" Evaline said, gesturing to the piss-off blonde boy, smiling sweetly.

To his horror, that girl dared to come talk to them.

What's wrong with her? As if the look of disapproval on his face was one to welcome her in. He frowned even more, twisting his lips into a displeased line. She was mental, clearly taking advantage of the way Mother waved at her to slither close. Arabella's smile was genuine, which that prick obviously didn't deserve – no matter how innocent she tried to be –, but Jude wasn't going to say it out loud.

... And Jeffrey?! Really?

"Oh, hello, dear," Arabella took a liking for that girl, which had all sorts of sirens singing in the back of Jude's mind. Mother's sense of danger had clearly gotten worse following the years dedicated to Divination practice, so it was up to him to identify that that prick was no good. "Evaline, correct? It's a good thing we saw you. Jude here is about go... How about the two of you sit together on the Express?"

Jude wanted to be struck by lightning, mouth opening and closing as his brain tried to conjure up a good enough excuse as to not be around that Evaline girl for longer than necessary. As impeccable as his acting skills were, he couldn't go on pretending to be friends with her for much longer. That required talent far above his reach.

Glancing up at his mother, then back at the girl, Jude let out a loud, embarrassed laughter, shaking his head. "Oh, mum, but Evemine here has her little Minions to accompany her," The lie smoothly left him, as Jude shrugged in dismissal, purposefully mispronouncing her name, too. Arabella looked back at him. "I wouldn't want to interrupt, you know? That'd be so rude of me. But it's alright. I'll manage on my own,"

Evaline willed her jaw to not fall apart. Her?! Sit with the arrogant little muggle boy? She erased any sign of shock off her face.

In the back, she heard Teddy singing, probably some brain-rot thing to Estelle. She made a mental note to pinch him, later.

The woman, Miss Morgan was sweet. Really nice, actually. She smiled kindly at Eva, and Eva smiled back. There was nothing wrong with the lady. Her spawn, on the other hand. Yeesh.

Evaline had an idea and she internally smirked. Jonas ( or whatever) didn't want to sit with her? And his mother wanted him too? HA!

" Superlative-" ( Eva needed to stop saying that word) " -idea miss! I would love to sit with Jeremiah! Let me just bid adieu to my family!" She said, and with that, she spun around on her heel and sauntered back to her family.

" Who was that? Your friend?" Teddy asked, an odd expression on his face.

" Yeah...sure..." Evaline muttered sardonically. Ian didn't take the hint.

" Oh, a friend, Eva? That's nice! That's the boy you met at Diagon Alley? I should go an-" Ian started but Eva pushed him back. She was half his size, but he stopped.

" No. Ian. No. T-thats embarrassing. Don't." She insisted, narrowing her eyes. Her brothers always listened to her.

" Okay..." He said, and went back to talking about politics with Dante.

Evaline sighed, and said good-bye to each of her family members. A well deserved pinch for Teddy, but he hugged her tight. All of her brothers looked like they were going to cry, and she rolled her eyes.

" Ickle firstie!" Dante exclaimed, ruffling her- gasp- perfect curls! She smacked his hand away.

" I will be fine. Shut up."

Evaline hugged all her nieces, and then turned to her mother role, Alara. She really didn't want to get emotional ( her mascara) so she just hugged her and left.

Time to torture the boy and force him to sit with her!! He seemed like the type that would care, if his mother was disappointed. Unlike Evaline.

" Come on, Joseph!" Evaline waved to the boy in mock excitement. She really would rather sit with anyone else.

Superlative...? He fought the urge to scoff.

Even after that Evaline girl had walked off to say goodbye to her parents, Jude kept his eyes on her, not at all pleased that she agreed to sit with him. She must be up to something. The two of them had clearly started on the wrong foot, and though Jude didn't want to make any enemies, some things couldn't be helped. On one hand, he was glad she did, because it made Mother more at ease. She had been so worried he'd face the same difficulties she did at Hogwarts that, despite trying to hide it, he could see the look in her eyes and how she tortured her nails over it.

"The two of you are rather funny," Arabella said, as a nod to how the two of them purposefully got each other's names wrong. She added, messing with his curls, "It reminds me of my cousin Silvius,"

Jude reached up to keep his hair from turning into a lion's mane. He pressed the curls down because he needed to make a good first impression with someone from his year. He couldn't afford to have only one connection at Hogwarts – and it was that bloody Evaline girl. That would be a nightmare!

Scrunching his nose, he muttered, "I thought you said Uncle Silvius was out of his mind,"

Arabella's face didn't help with his confusion. "Well, yes, but in a funny way,"

Jude wouldn't question it, though. No matter how confused it made him. He hugged Mother longer than ever before, ignoring the quiet sniffles she let out, and the way his eyes burned. He smiled when the woman held his face, gently analyzing him for any sign of fear. Arabella didn't find any – as expected. Her little boy was always too confident.

"Don't miss me too much, mum," He made sure to say, earning a soft chuckle from her. Arabella wiped the corner of her eyes, not wanting to cry in front of him, and he thanked her internally for that. He wouldn't be able to keep his composure if he saw her crying.

Yanking his trunks from the cart, he approached the entrance to the Express. Much to his dismay, Jude looked around for that bloody girl and spotted her. He made his way inside as quickly as possible. Maybe if he found a full enough compartment, he'd be able to tell her to piss off and find somewhere else to sit – the thought made him smile.

Evaline was going to ditch the moron the first chance she got. Currently she didn't have the chance. She was holding only one of her trunks and her knees were about to bloody buckle. 'WHY COULDN'T MY DAMNED BROTHERS DO THIS?', were her exact thoughts at the given moment.

She nearly dropped the bag on her foot, and cursed in Russian.

When she was finally and gloriously done with shoving all her bags who-knows-where, she sat down in an empty compartment. She could see her monkey band from there, and she smiled genuinely. They might be a pain in the arse, but she loved them. Like crazy. It seemed like Alara and a few of her brothers were looking for her, their eyes darting to and fro. Evaline wanted to shout that she was here, but she would probably look too eager.

Teddy had located her, and now was pointing at her, " EVA! OVER HERE! EVAAAA!!"
Evaline waved awkwardly.

Alara had whipped out her phone ( yes, she had a phone) and started taking rapid-fire pictures of her. God, she would probably look so bad in the pictures, Alara was holding the phone all wrong! And those pictures would probably end up in every single family group chat.

Evaline felt cool tears in her eyes, and she wiped them furiously away with her sleeve. She would not cry. She was leaving them, finally. What she always had wanted. So why was she suddenly sad? And, oh god, her hand tremors started again.

He looked at the Evaline girl a second – it was clear she needed a little help, but he didn't move a finger to do so. She wouldn't have done it, either, if their roles were inverted. Part of him felt more than justified in leaving her there, given how she had acted back in Diagon Alley. After dragging his own trunk inside the locomotive, Jude began to search for a compartment.

Eventually, he settled for a place.

Two older students sat there, but they were kind enough to let him take the opposite seat to them. Cheeks flushing in embarrassment, Jude minded his business, then, reaching inside his trunk for one of his comic books – so he'd have something to do on the way, and wouldn't pay attention to their conversation.

Not that he'd understand, even if he tried his damn hardest (which he did.) The girls spoke in a foreign language, sharing excited smiles and giggles. He felt a little jealous. He wanted to have a friend like this already, even though his journey had only just begun.

Bringing his knees closer to his chest, Jude kept his focus on his Batman comic book. He'd read it before, and it was one of his favorite storylines – when Batman met his presumed dead Robin, Jason Todd, for the first time. It got his attention, regardless of how many times he'd seen it play out, eyes mesmerized by the art and the way the artists conveyed those emotions so well.

Eventually, the girls' chatter subsided, and it felt pleasant, like an ASMR video. Resting his head back, Jude was tempted to fall asleep. It would be a long way to Hogwarts, he guessed, so napping just a little bit wouldn't hurt.
