The Library Tuesday - first week 329 words
Ophelia was tired, no, correction: she was exhausted. The last thing she wanted to experience right now was being in the overly crowded Gryffindor common room. Don't get her wrong, she had friends in the common room, and it wasn't her friends she was avoiding, it was the loudness of the place. She loved her fellow Gryffinodrs, truly, but her head ached from the lack of sleep -because why were the owls flying and hooting so loudly in the middle of the night?- and the classes. The common room was loud, the dormitories were crowded, so her only option was the library.
The library was one of her favourite places in the castle; no one was supposed to be loud there, so that everyone could concentrate. She had a favourite spot there, too: at the back, next to the window. For some reason, she found that corner relaxing, maybe because whenever it rained, she could listen to the patter of the rain against the window, and leaning towards the glass, the coldness could numb her head that was full of unrelated thoughts.
Whatever the reason for her love of that specific spot was, it was forgotten the second she saw a girl with long brunette hair sitting on her technically unclaimed spot. "Should I just go sit somewhere else...?" she muttered to herself. No, I'll be fine, it's just one person, and we're in the library.
She walked, slowly and hesitantly, to the girl. "Hey, um, is it okay if I sit here?" she asked, just as hesitantly as she'd walked, if not more. The girl looked up at her, her yellow eyes now in sight. Yellow eyes? Wow, I think that's really rare. Or maybe she's wearing contacts? Why do I even care? It's not my business. But she's very pretty, and the yellow eyes suit her.
"Hi.." she added, just then realizing she hadn't greeted the girl properly.

Kityara walked through the halls, carrying a small bag with her sketchbook and pencils in it. She had already finished all her work. She WANTED to work on a new outfit, but the mannequins in the dorm were already taken by other students, so she’d have to wait. She continued wandering around for a bit…this place seemed like a maze sometimes. She pulled the bag back up -it had slipped off of her shoulder again- and continued walking, eventually managing to find a quiet place to draw… the library.
She walked between shelves, looking over the books with mild curiosity. She didn’t feel like reading right now, but it wouldn’t hurt to look around a bit in case she wanted to read later on. After taking out her sketchbook and nothing down a few book titles at the top of the page, she found a table in the corner and sat down, taking out all of her drawing supplies and beginning to sketch things she had seen on the train to Hogwarts- interesting trees, plants, etc.
She looked up as someone suddenly spoke to her, jolting her out of her focus, and she saw a girl, around her age, with pretty black hair. When the other girl spoke, she stood up immediately, her pencil rolling off of the table and onto the floor. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize this was your seat-”. She knew seats weren’t necessarily reserved, but she also knew that some people, like her, had one spot they’d sometimes prefer sitting in and that it would be rude to take their spot. When the other girl greets her, she smiles slightly, having also not noticed the lack of hellos. “Hi…”

At the apology, Ophelia feels embarrassed and panics, "No, no, it's alright, really! You can sit there, it's not I've bought the corner for myself," she tries to joke and lighten the mood. She usually wasn't that funny and playful like her friends, and right now she wished she'd learnt something from them.
"I was just wondering if I could sit next to you," Ophelia asked, then awkwardly extended her hand for a handshake. "I'm, uh, Ophelia, Ophelia Vanderbilt. Gryffindor," she chuckled nervously.
Ophelia's gaze dropped down to the girl's notebook. Sketches and drawings of trees, plants, and the beautiful landscape outside Hogwarts were drawn on the last page, where the drawing looked incomplete, meaning she was working on it now.
"Those are beautiful sketches, you drew them yourself?" she asked, astonished. Ophelia didn't have what it took to draw. In her school, she always doodled random lines with a black pen in her books or her notebook; she does this in her spare notebook in Hogwarts when she's anxious.
She then finally sat down, since the girl didn't seem to be minding her company, and took out a book to read. She was glad she'd brought some of her own Muggle books with her; she loved the stories and the creativity of explaining magic and superpowers despite not knowing of the real magical world.

Kityara’s smile grew slightly wider at the other girl’s joke, finding her funny. “True, true.” She leaned down to pick up the runaway pencil and then looked up to see the girl’s hand being held out for a handshake. She quickly stood back up, wobbling slightly before placing the pencil on the table and hoping it wouldn’t roll off again. It rolled right to the edge before stopping, and she breathed a sigh of relief. She then looked back at the girl, shaking her hand and looking slightly embarrassed at the delay. “I’m Kityara Dragonfang. Ravenclaw. Nice to meet you, Ophelia.”
She bumped into the table while shifting her position, catching the pencil as it almost fell to the floor again and placing it between the blank pages of her sketchbook instead, to make sure any lines it left wouldn’t ruin any drawings.
She looked a bit nervous as the other girl looked at her art, but relaxed when she complimented it. People normally did compliment her art, but everyone had their own opinions and the people who had bad ones weren’t usually all that nice, so she was glad this girl wasn’t one of them. “Yeah, I drew them. Thanks.” As Ophelia sat down, she sat back down as well, grabbing her pencil. She sketched a bit longer, moving on to sketches of an outfit she planned on sewing once the mannequins were free, before looking over and seeing Ophelia reading something. “What’re you reading?”

Ophelia put her bookmark on the table and looked at Kityara. "Ah, it's called Robinson Crusoe; it's a very old book. I once looked up when it was published. I think it was around 1719 or something," she said, suddenly eager to tell someone about her book.
"Do you like to read? I love reading, been doing it ever since I could," Ophelia noticed she was starting to ramble on. Blushing, she paused and looked down back at her book. The orange cover wasn't too bright nor too dark, and the black drawings of a man and his dog walking on the ground of a what seemed like a desert with palm trees was to look like shadows. The yellow lettering of the Title, the author, and the publisher wasn't mistaken by the orange of the cover; in fact, these two colors were the opposite, despite the fact that none of them was too bright or too dark: one could easily know which was which.
Ophelia tapped her foot on the polished floor of the library, her knee bouncing up. How did she get comfortable enought to start rambling on about a stupid book? Ugh! She groaned mentally, very careful not to let out a sound. She continued on reading the book, which was in German, not understanding few words every now and then since she was trying to improve her German.

Kityara’s eyes widened at the name of the book. It sounded familiar, but she couldn’t remember when she had read it. “I think I’ve read that before... If I’m remembering properly, it was pretty good.” She smiled again, happy to find another person who seemed to like reading as much as she did. She then brushed an annoying strand of hair away from her eye as she answered Ophelia’s question.
“Yeah, I love reading. About as long as you have, apparently.” She chuckled, before noticing the cover of the book. She didn’t read the title at first, since Ophelia had already said it, instead opting to look at the color scheme. Orange and black... might make a cool dress color scheme, if she could find enough orange fabric in her bag. She normally just used yellow and black... maybe she should try some other colors soon. Sky blue might look nice... or perhaps a sunset design? She zoned out for a moment, thinking about dress designs, her pencil now held loosely in her hand and occasionally sliding on the page, making soft marks on the blank page. She looked at the page, before starting to sketch out a pretty dress with a sun pattern on it.

Ophelia smiled as they fell into a non-awkward and comfortable silence. She continued to read her book, occasionally glancing at Kityara's drawing. She noticed the colors yellow and black were used everywhere and couldn't help but think that maybe that was the girl's favorite color combination.
Ophelia couldn't give her book the attention it deserved anymore, as her gaze kept drifting toward the window and the outside landscape. She found the view was exceptionally beautiful from there; she'd think that no matter where in the castle she was, but she thought maybe this thought right now was because of the quiet and calm atmosphere of the library. Ophelia felt bored, so she looked around at other students and then flipped through the pages of her book.
The clock on the wall clicked every second and eventually hit 8:30 o'clock. Ophelia remembered they had to be in their common rooms starting 9 'clock.
She closed her book and tapped Kityara's arm to get her attention. "We have to go, or at least I do, we have to be in our common rooms in half an hour," she said quickly, clearly having lost the track of time, as she stood up, her book almost slipping from her hand because of how stressed she suddenly was.
