Falling Book Finished

On rainy, gloomy days Gienna often found herself in the library, browsing the books she probably wouldn't read or just relaxing in the corner, which she was doing now. She usually spent her time people watching while pretending to read a book, lost in thought. But at the moment she was supposed to be studying her butt off, not resting on it, which is why she was lost in thought trying to force herself to get up.

Eventually she sighed, knowing that even though she expected to do very well this school year it never hurt to study just a little bit more. Gienna got up out of her very comfortable spot and headed over to the tables area. She would've sat with others but as punishment for her sluggish behavior she choose an empty table. She also wouldn't be distracted here so it wasn't all too bad.

If anyone had noticed Gienna they would see a very young blonde girl sporting Slytherin colors. She wore a deep green sweater, a pair of grey sweatpants, and crisp, white sneakers. She was relatively normally-looking except for the keen way her eyes darted around the room every now and then, like she was trying to mask her alertness. Except that was just Gienna getting distracted.

Gienna spread out her writing utensils and work, going over her facts and concepts as many times as she needed to. She was studying from two books, Book of Spells and Magical Theory. She liked the idea that she could one day make her own spells, especially hexes and jinxes. Gienna had a thing for dark magic but she didn't feel too comfortable actually trying it, she'd rather just know about it.

Gienna, and most likely no one else, noticed how high above a book was sliding out of it's place, right above her head. If it were to fall it probably leave the poor Slytherin with a bad headache but not much more.

Meanwhile she was muttering aloud as she focused, saying, ”This is child labor...dumb complex runes..."

Adriel let out a low aggravated groan and ran a tired hand down her face. She was working on her latest assignments and just couldn't seem to focus. She needed a break and a good distraction. Which is why she originally came to the library in the first place. The best way to get distracted was to get lost in a good book. She was in the mood to read some fables. Adriel got up from her set stuffed her assignments back in her notebook and walked towards the shelf with the selection of fables.

Her feathered braids bounced with each step she took. Her hair was honey blonde and almost reached her waist. When she was standing still at any rate. Her seafoam eyes began to scan the room. She was on a hunt for a comfier chair as well as a good book to read. That's when she noticed a blonde Slytherin girl sitting alone and engrossed in her book. Ok the shelf behind her a book looked ready to tip over and plop right down on her head. Adriel quickened her pace and called out a quick panicked "Hey! Slythrin watch out! That book is about to bonk you on the head!" Adriel had hoped the librarian wouldn't be mad at her for raising her voice. It was in an effort to help a fellow student out after all.

Gienna noticed the girl before she even said anything. She watched as the girl put her work back into her backpack and began journeying deeper into the library, braids bouncing up and down in a humorous way...until she looked in Gienna's direction.

The Slytherin looked away, not wanting to be called out for staring, but the girl shouted anyways. Gienna sighed, scouring her brain for something clever her rude to say back to the girl, but then the girl's words finally registered: a book was falling her way.

Gienna quickly shot to side, just as the book clunked down onto the seat she had been sitting in. She was now on the floor, gapping at what could've been a bad injury, but instead of cursing, like she usually did in bad situations such as this, Gienna got up and thanked the girl.

"Wow," she said as she blushed, feeling foolish for having thrown herself to the floor like that. "Thanks a million, I would've died."

Gienna stuck a finger at the book and laughed before dusting herself off. She went over to the girl. "I'm Gienna. And what shall I call my savior?" she tittered. She was surely in a playful mood, even if a bit shaken from the close encounter.

Adriel breathed out a sigh of relief as the Slytherin darted from her chair and straight to the floor. She hoped the girl hadn't hurt herself in the process of that leap but was glad to see she was out of harms way. Adriel had slowed her step as she watched the book thud to the floor. It would have certainly hurt if it had hit the poor girl. Adriel could just see the goose egg forming she thanked her lucky stars that the girl listened to her in time.

The Slytherin regained her composer and pulled herself together. She looked shaken but overall unharmed. "Wow." Adriel watched as the girls face turned red. She assumeed it was out of embarrassment for the leap the girl took to the floor. Peronsally if it was under better circumstances Adriel would have rated that dive a ten outloud. "Thanks a million, I would've died." The girl said while staring at the book. She pointed a finger at the book and let out a laugh before finally standing. She duested herself off then walked towards Adriel. "I'm Gienna. And what shall I call my savior?" Gienna tittered about as she asked. Adriel found it quite silly but enjoyed it none the less.

My name is Adriel but feel free to call me Adriel the benevolent... Or rather Adriel the loud since my yell did save you a trip to the hospital wing" Adriel let out a playful laugh and smiled at the girl warmly. " Are you alright the book missed you but that leap looked like it might have hurt.
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I had seen your reply this morning but got side tracked and forgot to respond till now. Please have mercy.

"Adriel the Loud? Clever, but Adriel the Ear-Splitting fits rather nicely." She feigned a pained expression as she touched her ears tentatively, as if she were in agony. But then she snickered, her face twisting back into a grin.

"I'm okay, just a little battered, that's all." Gienna checked herself over to make sure. Her right elbow and wrist hurt, and she had a small bruise on her knee, but it wasn't bad enough for a hospital visit, which she assured Adriel the Ear-Splitting. She was definitely not going to let that name go.

She bent down to pick up the book, giving it a once over. Gienna was about to put back on the shelf when she it's title finally registered in her brain: A Practical Guide to Caring for Unicorns. At first she couldn't believe what she was reading, despite the fact she was in a magic library that was bound to have something like this in it's catalog. But the fact that something as...silly as this book had fallen into her, of all things.

"Bloody hell," she muttered, a bit annoyed. It would've been cooler if something like The Essential Companion To Hexing, which she had just finished the other day, had fallen into her possession. Gienna felt like chucking the book across the world but instead she turned to the girl with a bemused expression.

"I suppose you don't have any use for this?" She waited for Adriel's reaction, wondering if perhaps she did, actually.

Adriel couldn't help but laugh at the way she tentatively touched her ear and fained hurt. Adriel the Ear-Splitting? Well I do have the pipes of a banshee." Adriel joked with a chuckle. She placed a hand to her chest delicately and looked up in a prideful manner.Yes that nickname should suit me nicely." She acted as if she were boasting then turned to Gienna with a warm smile Adriel is fine."

Gienna all but wafted her finger at this. She lovingly explained with bemusement that Adriel was never going to live the nickname down. Adriel could only shake her head in response laughing all the while. She quite liked this girl so far. Once the initial laughs were over Adriel looked back at Gienna in concern. Gienna picked up on this and quickly explained that she was fine. "I'm okay, just a little battered, that's all." Gienna said reassuringly before checking herself over.

"I'm glad you aren't in any real pain. Well I mean you probably are but at least you aren't heavily injured." Adriel clarified with a nod. She often made the mistake of not fully explaining what she meant. Sometimes the thoughts rushed together so quickly that she forgot how to express them properly.

Bloody hell. Adriel heard Gienna mutter out with annoyance. She was examining the cover of the book that nearly killed her. "I suppose you don't have any use for this?" Gienna held the book up in Adriels direction for her to view. "A Practical Guide to Caring for Unicorns. It isn't exactly what I'm looking for but there's always the chance that I get a unicorn someday. Might as well start learning how to care for it now"

Adriels eyes lit up as she reached for the book. "It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but it's close enough. Besides one day I might care for a unicorn myself it's best to be prepared." Adriel laughed while she waited for Gienna to pass her the book. "Also since you've given me a nickname I must give you a nickname as well. Perhaps Gienna The Evasive, or Conqueror of Close Calls" Adriel fell into a little fit of giggles her hair swished about as she laughed. "I'm open to ideas if those don't tickle your fancy."

Gienna thought Adriel was alright. She seemed like someone she could joke with easily, even though the Slytherin had her moments when her jokes sounded too much like genuine insults. She hadn't said anything too foul yet but she wondered when she did, how would this girl respond.

She said that Adriel was fine but Gienna didn't care, she'd still call her by the nickname. It was funny and it would probably getting annoying way too soon, especially because it was kind of long, but it was still funny to her nevertheless.

Gienna had expected the girl to laugh at the title like how she would but surprisingly she actually wanted the thing, which she handed over. She had no use for books about dumb unicorns, even though they did seem kind of cool.

Adriel began trying to give her nicknames then. While they didn't sound too bad, especially Conquerer of Close Calls because it made her sound like a sly, witty hero, Gienna would rather be the name-caller, not the name-called. But she didn't say anything about the names, just shrugged and frowned slightly.

Her eyebrows raised, thinking of what Adriel had said about the unicorns. "Wait, so you think you'll take care of them some day? But aren't unicorns, like, super rare?" She studied the girl with narrowed eyes. "Are you a Hufflepuff or something?" Not that she anything against the house, but it seemed a little bit on the naive side to consider caring for unicorns, who were free and extraordinary beings, or at least that's what she's heard. It's not like Gienna had researched this or anything.

Adriel noticed how Gienna's face formed a small frown at the mention of her nicknames. Maybe she didn't like them. She didn't give any suggestions in response so maybe she just didn't want a nickname. "Nah maybe I'll just stick with calling you Gienna for now. I'll use the nicknames on special occasions. Like another close call." Adriel gave her a wink but really hoped there wouldn't be anymore close calls.

She watched as Gienna's eyebrows raised it seemed like she had processed some information she didn't like. Or at least that's what Adriel thought based on her look. Adriel had been getting that look a lot lately. "Wait, so you think you'll take care of them some day? But aren't unicorns, like, super rare?" The girls eyes narrowed on Adriel as she studied her. "Are you a Hufflepuff or something?"

Adriel raised an eyebrow of her own wondering why that mattered. She shrugged off her thoughts and explained herself. "No I don't really think I'll be taking care of unicorns. It's more like wishful thinking. I would love to help care for mythical creatures of all kinds I find them incredible but I doubt that'll ever happen. Especially in regards to unicorns. They are extremely rare a sanctuary for those remaining might be nice. But I'm sure they prefer things how they are probably. Also I have the makings of a Hufflepuff thanks to my brilliant father however, I am in fact a Ravenclaw...surprise." Adriel waved her hands in a slightly jazzy way and chuckled. She felt a bit irked by the question but wasn't going to show it. I do often wonder if the sorting hat got it wrong though. I don't feel like I make the best Ravenclaw" Adriel shrugged her shoulders

"Gienna's just perfect," she confirmed with a smile, but when the girl wasn't looking the Slytherin rolled her eyes.

Gienna half regretted asking what house Adriel was in, but it satisfied her curiosity, at least. Most Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors she knew let their imaginations run away from them, unlike Ravenclaws and Slytherins, in her own opinion. And the girl had said that she wanted to take care of unicorns like it was commonplace anyways, so she wasn't completely naive. Gienna also was basing her words off of her own avoidance of the subject of unicorns; it made her feel too girly.

Gienna could relate to the Ravenclaw; sometimes she didn't really feel like a Slytherin. She had been really surprised at the Sorting Ceremony, the name of the house of serpents ringing in her ears as she made her way to her designated table. It didn't seem all too bad but Gienna had been really betting on Gryffindor. She felt like one of them for a moment but as she spent more time with her own kind in the dungeons she realizes that it was strangely a perfect fit. Still, Gienna often felt a bit off, like she wasn't ambitious or 'loyal' enough. These days she liked to spend time with daring Gryffindors and fun Hufflepuffs than anyone else.

"I get you," she said, about Adriel's last remark. She stood there for a second before asking, "Did you want to sit down with me or are you doing something important...?" Gienna glanced at the book she had given her, wondering if she was really, truly planning on reading it.

Adriel was happy to hear that she wasn't the only one that felt off with where she was placed. Maybe it was common to feel that way at first. Eventually she might grow to enjoy her house and feel like an actual Ravenclaw. "Did you want to sit down with me or are you doing something important...?" It then dawned on Adriel that she was just standing there. She rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. Gienna was fine and probably wanting to get back to her book now. Adriel didn'twant to bother her while she was reading.

"I was working on assignments but I've had my fill of them for today. I just needed a good distraction for a little while." Adriel shook the book in her hand as if saying here it is. "I originally was looking for a good fable to read but this could be interesting. Even if it is not at leat I learned something new." Adriel gave another shrug of her shoulders and opened it up to a skim a bit. I'll head over to a comfy chair so you can get back to your reading. I wouldn't want to impose on whatever it is your up to" Adriel smiled at her looking up from the book and closed it.
