﹕backdated to the start of the first year﹕NO MUGGLE TEACHER of his would have ever believed if he told them he had made his way to the Library as soon as his classes for the day were over and done with. That’s how much of a troublemaker they believed Jude be. Well, not that it mattered whether or not they bought it — Jude Morgan was a wizard now. Not just any wizard, of course. He was on his way to become the greatest wizard Hogwarts had ever seen.
Jude strolled inside the Library like he owned the place, sporting a minimal smile on his face. Golden curls falling over his rosy, freckled cheeks, his eyes darted around the place, looking for a spot where he could study without being interrupted. When seen like this, one would assume the first-year was having the time of his life since his arrival at Hogwarts. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Transfigurations had just about ruined his mood this morning. The mere concept of changing molecules, summoning nothing into something, or turning objects into other things was so tangled in his brain like a catscradle. He’d seen mother perform some spells that seemed to fit the description of what Transfiguration involved, but not even that had been enough to awaken all the magical potential deep within him. As much as he had tried to match their Professor’s example, no amount of concentration had managed to bring out the result he’d expected.
Whatever! Jude would be dead before he admitted defeat, especially not when he had just started. The Gryffindor was beyond stubborn. And since setting out the goal of becoming the greatest wizard he could possibly be, Jude didn’t care how long it took, how many hours he would have to stay locked inside the Library, how many books he’d have to read and how many pieces of parchment he’d have to set on fire, he was going to show how capable he was.
With that goal in mind, he dropped his bag near an empty corner. Arms crossed, he approached the larger-than-life shelves, eyes scanning the titles of each book until he found the one he’d been looking for – A Beginner’s Guide to Transfiguration.
Yes, yes. That was it. With this book, Jude would get to his second Transfiguration class, showing off his newfound knowledge, impressing not only the Professor but also his fellow classmates.
Far too entrapped in his own little bubble and daydreaming, Jude paid no attention to the world around him. He merely leaned in and reached for the guide without a second thought.private thread with @Valencia Rosegold

"Why the hell do we even have to take this class?!" Valencia has whisper-shouted to her desk mate during Transfigurations. It was rough, changing the molecules of an object around- how does that even work?! Valencia couldn't comprehend the matter, so whenever she tried to picture the transformation in her head- she couldn't. That entire class seemed to be the bane of her existence. She couldn't handle it.
It was Valencia's first year, and her first time around real, true magic without filter. Valencia hadn't been around magic prior to Hogwarts, so it was a completely new concept to her- and not an easy one. The class was dismissed for the day and Valencia couldn't help but curse the class under her breath quietly so no one else could hear it but herself. No other class ever had given her this kind of trouble, and her pride couldn't take it, so she did something that even surprised herself- she went to the library.
Muttering and cursing under her breath as she walked through the halls, she drew a few concerned looks but paid them no mind; she didn't care what people thought- their bias was already set anyway since becoming a Slytherin. As she got to the library, she sucked up her pride in one deep breath before strutting into the room, her arms crossed over her chest.
She quickly looked around- the library was huge, so how was she going to find a singular category in here? She sighed before deciding to actually be logical about the whole thing for once as she made her way to the Librarian's desk. "Where do I find the Transfigurations textbooks?" she asked somewhat sheepishly, embarrassed for another person to know about her struggles in the class. Without looking up from whatever she was doing, the librarian quickly muttered out a row and section of the large library and pointed towards an area that was off to the left of the room.
Thankful the Librarian didn't seem to care about how Valencia needed help in a class, Valencia quickly walked away from the Librarian's desk and towards the section of the room she had pointed to. "Ah, there it is." she quietly mumbled to herself as she turned down an aisle of books, walking towards the section that had a sign reading, "Transfigurations". In her own world, Valencia's eyes darted to a singular book: "A Beginner's Guide to Transfigurations". That was the perfect book she needed, after all, she was a beginner.
Strutting up to the book, her eyes were locked on it and nothing else, that was, until she saw another hand reach for it. Her emerald green eyes widened as she rushed forward, "Excuse me, I need that!" Her voice was slightly stern as she reached for the book, grabbing its spine as she scowled at the boy. "Sorry, but I kinda need this." Her eyes looked over the boy quickly before returning to the book as she began to pull it off its shelf.

Jude damn near jumped at the stern voice close to him, but luckily, he didn't move a centimeter away from the book. In fact, he fully rested his palm on top of the book as a way to protect it. Familiarity ran down his spine, as though he was still a 9-year-old boy getting in trouble with his Science teacher for doodling in class instead of paying attention. For a moment, he waited for Mrs. Jennifer to appear right around the corner, but the angry-looking woman never came.
Instead, Jude caught a glimpse of a blonde-haired girl. Her words registered in his brain as he turned to look at her. Like her eyes, the details of her uniform were green, informing him that she was a Slytherin.
Furrowing his eyebrows, his blue eyes were nothing short of incredulous at her demand that she needed that book. He needed that book, thank you very much. If he didn't properly study for Transfiguration, he would end up with the worst grade ever, and he'd never forget it. He was never going to allow such a thing to happen. After all, if he wanted to become the greatest ever, Jude couldn't afford to slip up in a single subject.
"Oh, well, I saw and touched it first," Jude said, slipping the textbook from the shelf, purposefully bumping against her hand to emphasize his point that he was the one to keep the book. If she wanted a go, the girl could very well wait until he was done with it.
Lips pulling upwards in a not-so-innocent smile, he waved the book at her, as if to say goodbye.private thread with @Valencia Rosegold
I touched it first!
My eyes widened at his cocky words- just who did he think he was?! I scoffed at him as I tried to pull at the book, but having no such luck, he yanked it away. I rolled my eyes at his waving of the book. "Were all Gryffindors like this?" I thought to myself as I scowled at the boy when I noticed his robes.
The boy had curly blonde hair, similar to my own, only shorter, and freckled cheeks that seemed to make me feel something unfamiliar when I really looked at him. I brushed it off as an absolute annoyance. His cocky strut I had noticed earlier when he had walked in a few seconds after me, his not-so-innocent smile, and those stupid golden curls that seemed to shine in the dimly lit library only made my annoyance grow.
I knew how badly I needed this book; I wasn't about to fail a class- especially one I would need for pretty much everything in my life. After all, I planned on being a medi-witch or a healer, so understanding Transfigurations was crucial if I ever needed supplies on the spot or needed to transform something to what it once was, so I was not giving up that easily. My future rested on that book, and I wasn't about to let a Gryffindor take it from me.
My scowl stood on my face as I looked up at the boy- he was slightly taller than me, just enough so that he could hold the book away from me effectively, making me scoff at his childishness. His words only made my scowl turn further, "That's so not true, and I need it more anyway!" she whisper-shouted, not wanting to disturb anyone else in the library.
As he waved the book at me, I realized he was about to leave- I couldn't let that happen, or at least not with the book I so desperately needed. My eyes widened slightly, my scowl faltering for a moment before returning to normal. I scoffed as I took a step towards him, "Oh, you are SO not about to leave with MY book." I scowled as I reached out for the book in his hands, going onto my tiptoes to try and reach for it as he held a cocky grin.

The girl’s insistence got on his nerves, affronting him right from the get-go, which he wasn’t at all used to. Not that it mattered how badly she wanted it, Jude saw the book first. It was only fair that she learned to wait until it was her turn.
There was no way she needed the Transfiguration book more than him, anyway. Transfiguration was worse than hell to him, worse than Mathematics and Quantum Psychics even, which he had never learned too much of, outside of movies, of course. And seeing her uniform, she was most likely a blessed Slytherin pureblood who knew all about magic from the moment she was born and was just trying to stop him from being better than her.
“Who decides that you need it more than me?” Although the words came quickly, his tone was nowhere near as confrontational as it usually is. Only due to their environment. To hell Jude would let this Slytherin get him on the Librarian’s bad side.
Scoffing, Jude raised his arm even higher, keeping the bloody textbook out of the girl’s reach. He’d get on his tiptoes if necessary. He took a step back, scrunching his nose as he always did when he got annoyed.
“This isn’t yoooour book,” Jude made a face, dragging out the word so it would get through the girl’s clearly thick skull. “Now if you’re done throwing a tantrum, I’ll be studying some Transfiguration,”private thread with @Valencia Rosegold

I narrowed my eyes at the boy, "How cocky!" I thought to myself, not caring if my face showed it, because hell- I couldn't care less what this thick-skulled Gryffindor thought of me- he was just being stubborn. "Ever heard of ladies first, or are you just too stuck-up to care?" I scoffed at him, scowling. I didn't care if he saw the book first; I needed it, and it was the only one that had been on the shelf.
I rolled my eyes at his stupid question- "Is he really going to be this difficult?" My eyes narrowed at him, not sparing him even a flicker of kindness. " I said I needed the book, and unlike you, I actually need it for something useful!" I scowled as I whisper-shouted at him. I didn't know what he actually needed the book for, I was only making assumptions, but I didn't care. This cocky Gryffindor was not one I owed anything to.
I reached higher for the book, miserably failing to grab it, fueling my annoyance and anger more. "God, are you always this rude?" I scowled and crossed my arms, glaring at him as I practically spit my words at him- though it could only come out in a whispered tone. "You can use the book after me, just give me the damn thing!" I quickly began trying to reach for the book again- getting high on my tiptoes- too high.
Before I knew it, I was falling forward trying to reach the book. His sudden step back and my quick step forward while I was stretching to reach the book had thrown me off balance, making me begin to fall forward into him. This was less than desirable, this is the last thing I was hoping would happen- but here I am, falling on top of a boy who's too stubborn to give up a book.

The longer this interaction dragged on, the more frustrated the boy became. Contrary to popular belief, Jude wasn't one to purposefully walk around hoping to make enemies, but it was hard to deny that this was bound to happen sooner or later. He was too stubborn for his own good, and when faced with someone just as strong-minded, disaster would follow.
As expected, neither was willing to forfeit the book and the opportunity to learn Transfiguration. Well... not that the bloody Slytherin girl had any other option, but forfeit, seeing as the book remained safe in his grasp. Before another dry quip could leave his lips, the girl's failed attempt to steal the textbook from him left Jude speechless, nothing but an amused huff falling from his parted mouth.
Instead of making himself a comfortable pillow for her, however, Jude slipped away, pressing his back against the shelves. He watched as the girl met her fate on the floor, tightening his grip around A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration, to make sure she wouldn't try to take it anyway.
Jude looked around, hoping their interaction hadn't caused enough disturbance in the Library that they would end up kicked out. She deserved to be kicked out, he thought bitterly, but knew the same fate would await him if such a thing were to happen. His gaze rested on the girl, and he shoved the book under his armpit.
"Are you done?" Jude asked with a mocking tone, which went against his soft-spoken, princely accent.private thread with @Valencia Rosegold
I touched it first!
I couldn't help but curse under my breath when I saw the stubborn boy move out of the way. It was just my luck that I had fallen off balance- and now onto the hard ground of this stupid Library that I never went to. I fell for a split second longer before hitting the ground with an "oof", leaving not only my head pounding, but my pride shattered.
My anger rose- this Gryffindor seriously thought he could do whatever he wanted? He was just another snobby, stuck-up kid who had known magic all of his life and had gotten whatever he wanted. My nose crinkled at the thoughts of such things- "No wonder Slytherins have never liked Gryffindors." I couldn't help but think to myself.
The whole thing was ridiculous; it was a damn book I had just taken a fall for, and one that he just couldn't give up. I pressed myself off the ground in a slightly shaky manner to get back on my feet. My body was sore from that fall, and my head was pounding, so why should some snob get to keep the book I had just fallen for?
I stood and scoffed at his comment, rolling my eyes despite my headache that seemed to hurt worse whenever I did so. "You Gryffindors are so unbelievable." I sneered at him as I crossed my arms. At this point, I wanted the book, but my headache ket me from stepping forward any longer, instead just leaving me standing and arguing with a stupid, golden-haired boy.
My lips curved into an evil smirk, "You know what, yeah, you can have the book; you probably need it more anyway." I scoffed with a sneer, "Some people just aren't as smart as others, and if you need it this bad, I guess you just aren't very bright." I smirked at him as my words shot out in a low, condescending whisper that was meant to make him mad.

Jude prided himself on his innate ability to recognize a good taunt when he saw one. It was a skill he learned the hard way, from making all sorts of "acquaintances" growing up, but now he'd say he was a master at it. And he sure as hell wasn't going to let this bloody Slytherin have the last word in this conversation. Especially not when she was on the losing team: one point for him for managing to keep the textbook within his grasp, and another one for making her fall.
Current score... Jude: 2. Slytherin girl: 0.
Textbook safe under his armpit, the boy crossed his arms, raising one eyebrow as if he couldn't believe such childish words had left the girl's mouth. (Not that he was any better. If he'd been the one in her place, he'd use the same reverse psychology to get under her skin.)
"Not that you're one to talk about intellect, right? Since you started throwing a tantrum over a book that you clearly need very, very much," Jude said as smoothly as possible, scrunching his nose in a face that could only be described as pompous. At last, he shrugged. "But that's alright, you know. No need to be embarrassed... Not everyone can be as smart as me,"
There it was. The perfect opportunity to end this interaction on another high note for him. 3 points for Gryffindor! Offering the girl a feigned innocent smile, Jude began making his leave. He wasn't going to waste another second there, in case the girl had another taunt prepared to get under his nerves.private thread with @Valencia Rosegold

The boy's snobby comment only made my scoff grow more agitated when I spoke, "I wasn't throwing a tantrum, I was trying to get back what was stolen from me!" I couldn't help but roll my eyes, "God, I hate Gryffindors." I couldn't help but think as I watched his nose scrunch.
I rolled my eyes, my head pounding, "If you were so smart, you wouldn't need the book, idiot." My eyes narrowed at him as I spoke, not caring if it hurt his pride or not- he needed it. "And I'm not embarrassed!" I called after him, "You should be embarrassed for those terrible manners! You'll never get anywhere with that cocky attitude!" I scoffed as I called those last, fleeting words out to him before turning on my heel.
"That snobby Gryffindor was just so cocky, of course, he was sorted into that damned house." I thought as I stormed the other way. I hadn't given up just yet; I would find a way to get that book, or at least torment the stupid curly-headed boy for a little while longer. I stormed off, knowing my next class would start soon, and I was not going to let an idiot like him make me late.
As I stormed out of the library, my hands balled into fists at my sides, I earned some concerned glances, but I ignored them as I walked out and slammed the door behind me. My next class was flying lessons. A class that helped me take my mind off things and let me get a breath of fresh air. Maybe this way I could get my mind off things. I hadn't known who was in my class, nor really cared to pay attention to who could be in there.
I stormed through the halls and climbed the first staircase to the first floor without a care of who I bumped into. My day and mood had been ruined by some cocky Gryffindor who thought he was better than everybody, and yet, my mind couldn't stop trailing back to him. I hadn't ever met someone as stubborn or rude as him, nor one who would be that rude to a girl. It made my blood boil and my mind race, getting on my nerves wasn't something many people were capable of- but he seemed to do it without trying.
