The third year was sitting by the Great Lake. It was a chilly, but nice morning. The sun was just breaking through the clouds, tinting the horizon in a golden hue. Breakfast would probably be in around half an hour, so the Gryffindor still had some time until he could even start to think about getting some food. So here he sat, crossed legged by the shore of the lake and just relaxing in the early morning sun. There were no frozen patches left, as the spring was approaching and the winter was left behind. Alan was looking forward to summer, since he could not wait for the warmer season.
He picked a stone from the ground and gently let it skip across the surface of the great lake and watched it sink to what he assumed to be the ground. He had never actually figured out how big the lake even was, he just knew that it surrounded to school nearly completely; making the castle seem even more like an ancient castle. He wondered how deep the lake got below the surface, he knew that it had to be a lot! He remembered the picture that he had in the drawer of his nightstand, an envelope with multiple pictures of fishes and creatures in the Great Lake that had been taken from the Slytherin Common Room. On it he could catch glimpses of the common room itself, but the focus was clearly on the lake. And he knew that the Slytherin place was in the dungeon and he knew its exact location, ever since he had accompanied Flash back to them. So even from down there, there had been no telling how much further down the Lake went. Thinking about it, he was wondering how Flash was doing, having seen him last at the Quidditch Match they had been watching together.
The third year felt his stomach growl lightly, he also could not wait for food to be served. He had been sitting here for a few minutes, left the Gryffindor rooms shortly before the curfew would have been lifted. Alan had no idea what he would be going to eat though, but it would be nice to figure that out later. Very little students were around at the moment and the third year was sure it must be because of early it was. He pulled his yellow rain coat closer, as if it could spend him some warmth in the cold weather, wearing a red sweater below and some slim fitted black pants. The boots he was wearing were black and seemed to be made to withstand any kind of weather without making the feet get wet. Generally his clothes seemed well made and of high quality, as he sat there, watching the sun rise behind behind the horizon. Tiger was curled up on his lap and he shielded the cat with his coat from the cold, as well as getting some of the body warmth the cat had to offer.

Opeila yawned, pulling Flash's coat tighter. She had woken up early again and decided to spend some time at the lake, together with her good old friend from the underworld. At least until breakfast started.
The Slytherin hadn't bothered to put her school uniform on yet, it was thin and not as comfortable as the jumper and trousers she was wearing now. Not to mention Flash's coat. She planned to thank him again later, it had proven to be quite useful the last week.
It was a rather chilly morning, Opeila once more realised how different the scottish winters were from the english ones. She missed the warmer temperatures a little, she could see her breath as a white cloud, although it was march already. It was not supposed to be that cold anymore... But then, it also was still early. Surely it would get warmer in a few hours.
The Slytherin didn't see the other student until she was very close to the lake. A familiar student. She needed a few seconds before she remembered his name. Alan... Something. At least his first name she still knew. He threw a stone on the lake, letting it skip across the surface a few times. Opeila had never understand how that worked. Her father had tried to teach her on holidays, but every time she had tried, the stone sank like... Well. Like stones sank.
Opeila walked towards the Gryffindor.
"Good morning! Alan, right? Why are you up so early?", she asked, smiling.

He was looking at the surface of the lake, occasionally glancing up to watch the sun rise. But aside from that it was rather quiet. He could hear the rustling of wind that gently shook the trees and chased soft ripples of water over the lake. It seemed peaceful and quiet, a perfect morning to say the least. Alan could only hope that a pleasant morning would mean a pleasant day would follow.
He would be awake longer than usual today, because it was the day of the Talent Show. Some of his friends were participating there and Alan could not wait to watch them show what they could do. He was looking forward to see some of their talents, he had learned about Ruka that he would be fire dancing; Alan had never known that the second year possessed a talent as such. Alan was also curious to see what Flash and Willow had planned, not sure about this, because Willow had not specified on this. But he was looking forward to it nonetheless, even though he had yet to figure out what the two of them were to another. Flash and Willow, huh?
He was caught by surprise, when he heard a soft voice speak up. He turned around to catch a glance of a girl, he remembered from the tea party and a smile found its way onto his face. He nodded, "Y-Yeah, that's me" he would confirm. "A-and you were O-Opeila?", he asked, cringing apologetically in case he got it wrong. It had been a while since the two of them met again and Alan had always been bad at remembering names. He hoped that she would take no offense by his insecurity about her name and gave a light shrug to her second question. "J-Just woke up early, y-you?", he asked, curiously as he invited her with a wave of his hand to come sit with him. If she did not mind the cold ground, at least.

The Gryffindor confirmed that Alan was his name and then asked her about her name. He was stuttering a little. Opeila sent him a friendly smile. "Yes, that is right."
The Slytherin looked at the lake that reflected the still partly orange sky. Opeila loved sunrise almost as much as she loved the sunset. She didn't know why but it always seemed to calm her, when a day ended.
Alan waved at her, inviting her to sit next to him and asked her if she just woke up early.
Opeila followed the invitation and sat down on the floor, making sure that she sat on the coat. She nodded at the Gryffindor's question.
"Something like that. Insomnia. I tend to sleep late but also wake up quite early."
She shrugged. Opeila had been scared about brain damage if she didn't sleep enough first, and always tried to force herself, but after a while she had accepted it. If she needed sleep, her body would tell her. She was fine, that was what counted.
"And you? Did you just wake up early or are you one of those who enjoy the castle being quiet?"
The castle in the early morning really seemed to be a different one than normally.
Opeila looked at it with mixed feelings. When she first arrived, she had been overwhelmed and excited, now she wasn't anymore. Her feelings about it weren't even only positive. She had suffered a lot of physical and mental pain behind those walls...

"Oh...", he muttered slightly as she told him about her insomnia. "I th-think there are t-treatments for that", he mumbled and glanced over at the girl with a smile as she sat down next to him. She used her coat as some kind of divider between herself and the grounds which made him chuckle slightly. He heard of plants in class before who can be used for stuff like that, but he was not sure how they were called anymore.
"I just w-wake up e-early", he explained to her as he stared across the lake towards the horizon. He wondered how he could explain it to her. "I j-just like u-using the d-daytime wisely and st-staying up l-late would be the o-opposite" He hummed, happy with this explanation. But he also liked the quietness of the castle in the morning, so she was not wrong. He liked watching everything come to life as animals, people and nature woke up. He could see a mouse run through the grass, probably out to find some food at dusk, who was he to know? A content sigh escaped his lips as he looked over to the girl again. "D-Did something k-keep you awake?", he wondered curiously, no harmful intent in his features, just plain curiosity as to what had been keeping her up and robbed her the precious sleep she would need. He was not even thinking about not asking such a personal question, just offering someone to talk to, if she wished to talk. But he would not push the matter if it turned out to be nothing or if the dark haired girl did not wish to share the information.
