The Dancer
I walked into the rehearsal room, wearing my deep blue leotard and skirt, and breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, a place I can practice my dancing. I closed my eyes. And for a moment, I was back in the studio at Central School of Ballet. It was calm and quiet. I opened my dance bag and there they were. My Pointe Shoes, begging to be worn. "It's been a while..." I whispered to them. When I was at home, whenever I had a stressful day, I would go to the studio early to practice. Before I got my letter, my dance teacher said I could have gone to YAGP competition. (Youth America Grand Prix.) AND I got cast as Clara in The Nutcracker! Obviously, when I got my letter I had to decline. I remember telling myself, One day you will go...One day... But now, there was no stopping me from dancing. As I put on my toe pads under my stockings and slid on my pointe shoes, I couldn't help but feel homesick. I walked over to the speaker and turned on the Waltz of the Snowflakes. For a second I held myself back, what if you forgot everything? I had to remind myself that i'm a dancer, and dancers have really good muscle memory. Once I heard the first few notes of the song, I got into the flow. I spent hours in the rehearsal room, not a care in the world, when someone burst into the rehearsal room...
"A wise girl knows her limits; A smart girl knows she has none."

I was walking down the hallway, going about my classes. As I turned toward the Fourth-floor corridor a string of notes played around in the air. It sounded like music. Where was it coming from? I walked further down the hallway; the music grew louder. I knew this song! It was the waltz of the snowflakes! My dad had once taken me to the theater to see the nutcracker. I still remembered some of it. The music was definitely that song.
I looked around to see where it was coming from. After walking towards the music a bit, I found myself at the Rehearsal room. I put my ear to the door. It was definitely coming from there. I opened the door a tiny notch and saw a girl dancing to it. She was so good at it. I had never been good at dancing and seeing her it looked so easy. She twirled and danced with grace, and it looked so perfect. She still hadn't noticed me, so I stayed at the door, watching.
I was just about to leave when I tripped on my own feet and fell into the room. I almost fell on the floor, but I manged to pick myself up at the last second. I had made quite a bit of noise and the girl had noticed me. I stared at her, embarrassed. Maybe I could just leave and spare myself such a mortifying moment. My cheeks were probably red by now. My hands stiffened and the girl spoke -

I was lost in the music, twirling, leaping, I was dancing without a care in the world, then I heard a thump, anytime I hear a thump I brace myself for the worst. I turned around."OMG, are you ok?" I saw a girl pick herself up from the floor. She looked to be about my age with wavy dark hair and she was a Gryffindor. Her cheeks were tomato red, just like her Gryffindor tie. "Do you need to go to the hospital wing?" I asked pulling off my pointe shoes as pretty as they were, they were not very practical. Whenever someone got hurt, it was my natural instinct to go help. What can I say? I have a younger sister who is always getting in trouble. Breaking dishes falling off monkey bars...I needed to take a deep breath before I went to the hospital wing. Maybe I was over reacting shes probably fine. I think. I hope... I saw her clench her fists. Was she going to fight me? I was so confused! So many thoughts ran through my head,Is she going to fight me? I don't know how to fight! Um flight or flight....FLIGHT. But I should help her...

Embarrassment rushed through me like an express train. I wasn't hurt but was definitely going to think this moment and how I could have avoided it. The girl stopped the music and asked if I was okay. She even asked if I had to go to the hospital wing. I wasn't that badly hurt, maybe my ouch when I fell was a bit exaggerated.
"I'm fine, I don't need to go to the hospital wing! I'm sorry for disturbing you!" I could just say sorry and leave. Then, I would hopefully never meet her again. All I had to do was leave. The girl however looked genuinely worried. She didn't have to be. I really wasn't hurt at all.
"I'll just leave then," I said and was about to leave the rehearsal room. I should probably say something else, I thought. She must be wondering what kind of idiot falls into a room like that. Maybe a compliment would make it better. The girl was an excellent dancer.
"You're a really good dancer, by the way." I said quickly. I was now going to walk out of the room. What should I do later? I don't know, I could just read. I was once again just about to step out of the room, when the girl said something else -

"I'm fine, I don't need to go to the hospital wing! I'm sorry for disturbing you!" The girl said. I didn’t care about her ‘disturbing’ me. I was just glad she was ok. “Hey it’s ok I trip, fall, or drop things ALL the time. Plus, I’m happy you disturbed me, otherwise I’d be here for AGES.” I said. “Your a really good dancer by the way.” She said as she turned around to leave. “Thanks…” I called after her. She seemed nice. Maybe we can be friendsthought. I knew she knew I was thinking. I have a very distinct thinking face. I kept thinking, Maybe she wants to be friends. But what if she doesn’t want to be friends? My perfectionist self cannot be embarrassed. By now, she is probably already down the hallway. This was my last chance. I ran down the hallway until I spotted her. How do I word this so I don’t sound like a kindergartner? I asked myself. ”So, um, do you want to be friends, like I can teach you how to dance and stuff.” I felt my face go hot. That sounded like a kindergartner…

"So, um, do you want to be friends, like I can teach you how to dance and stuff." the girl called from the hallway. I froze in my tracks. Wait, she wanted to be friends? I turned around and met her. She was in the hallway now her cheeks blushing. She wanted to teach me dance. I wasn't a good dancer; I would probably embarrass myself. But the friends offer was nice. The girl also seemed nice. Maybe we could be friends.
I wanted to reply, but what should I even say? Yes? No that sounds weird. Maybe something more, umm... How do I describe it? Something that didn't sound too eager nor too forced.
"Really? That's a great offer! I could be your friend." That wasn't exactly how I was trying to say it. I still wasn't sure about the learning to dance thing, but I'll work it out eventually. "Are you free anytime soon?" I asked. "We could meetup." Maybe somewhere that wasn't in the middle of a hallway. Thankfully, few people pass by this area. It was also kind of awkward standing so far apart while having a conversation, so I walked back up to the girl. Maybe next time I wouldn't trip and fall into the room she's in.

"Really? That's a great offer! I could be your friend." I breathed a sigh of relief. I hope I didn't sound too too desperate. "Are you free anytime soon?" The girl asked. "We could meetup." This might sound weird but she kinda smelled like the sea side.
"I'm free tomorrow after classes. Maybe we could meet up in the library or at the great lake to do homework? I said. I really hoped I didn't sound so much like a teacher's pet, asking to do homework and all. "I can introduce you to Olivia and Maya and Sophia. Sophia is a Gryffindor so you might already know her." This conversation felt awkward because we were standing so far from each other. I stepped forward and smoothed down a stray curl. ." Well time for a formal introduction. I'm Tina Carille, I'm a first year Ravenclaw. I'm muggleborn and sometimes may come across as harsh because I need everything to be perfect." I shifted my bag strap to the other side of my shoulder. ."You know i'm perfectly fine with you choosing where we meet up..." I quickly added. Being new to the wizarding world I was desperate to make friends. Not lose them...

"I'm free tomorrow after classes. Maybe we could meet up in the library or at the great lake to do homework?" she said. That sounded good. She had barely gotten to see the Lake since she got here. It would be fun to watch the squid in the lake while doing homework.
"I can introduce you to Olivia and Maya and Sophia. Sophia is a Gryffindor so you might already know her." she said. I had no idea who any of those people were. But, okay! She could really have a friend group here!
She then introduced herself. She was a Ravenclaw and a muggle born. And I also learnt that she probably shouldn't make mistakes around her. I didn't have a friend in Ravenclaw yet. Guess this would my first one!
"You know i'm perfectly fine with you choosing where we meet up..." she asked.
The great lake seemed the ideal place to meet up. I was excited and looking forward to it.
"Oh, yeah sure!" I said. "The lake is a great spot! And yeah, we could do it tomorrow after classes." I was free tomorrow and wanted it to be as soon as possible. I decided to introduce myself.
"I'm Natasha Blackwood. I 'm a first year gryffindor. I'm a halfblood and I love cats. I'm also pretty stone-faced around strangers, but with friends I really open up. And ooh! I love gossip!" That seemed like a good introduction. Maybe we could actually be friends!
