“Afobado?”
Adlai cocks her head to the side.
“I don't know the word in English, but oh well. It's just- the year hasn't finished, but I've been drowning already. Do you know what I mean?"
“I know what you mean. And thank you for the advice, I’ll look into it.”
She smiles at him. Virgil has always been such a good friend to her, even when they first met he was kind. She was sure if it weren’t for his and Leah’s kindness when she first arrived that she would still be lost in the corridors somewhere and would never be found.
Corridors...that reminded her of something. “Can I tell you something?” She asks unsure of what his reaction would be to what she is about to say. “I feel like you are one of the only people I can tell this to, so I was just wondering.”
It wasn’t anything bad, or at least she thought it wasn’t bad. Then again she didn’t know what it could mean here in the wizarding world. She even yet to tell Leah, and they were in the same house. Nonetheless, she hadn’t talked to Leah in a while. Taking a note on that she began to think of when she would reach out to her closest friend again.

[quote]Virgil smiles, relieved, glad that his first-ever friend understands him despite his lack of wording his feelings properly. Glad that she takes his advice, too. He's never tried meditating before, despite his growing anxiety, but his mother and cousin, Sarah, have talked about it on various occasions and the idea sort of stuck to him. If it works for Addie, he might even give it a try, for once. He really should, he tells himself, as a reminder to look into it some more.
Then Adlai, unsure, sounding quiet and nervous, at least to him, asks if she could tell him something. Virgil nods, not knowing how to answer that. She goes on to say that he's only one she could tell that, which makes his curiosity grow. Virgil takes an unconscious step in her direction and nods once again, excitement and nervousness rushing through his body.
"Yes, of course," says Virgil, with a quiet tone as well. "You can tell me anything, Addie." Then, his anxiety hits and the poor Slytherin bites his tongue and adds, not wanting to sound too forceful, "That-That you're comfortable with, that is! Uh, I would never, never, force you to say anything, ok? And I wouldn't judge you either, ok? Uh... I'll shut up..."

“I know you’d never force me to do anything, Virgil.” She says giving him a warm smile. She brings her swinging racket to a halt and catches the ball that Virgil had hit back to her. She looks around to see if anyone was close enough to be in earshot of their conversation before taking a deep breath.
“I hear things, Virgil. Voices that aren’t normal and it only started when I arrived here.”
Looking down at the ground she squints her eyes in a way that mixes the expressions of confusion and pain.
“They’ve learned my name...the voices...I’m scared.”
“Do you hear them to? Does anyone else hear them or am I going crazy?” She asks. Saying this to him was like lifting a boulder of her chest. She wasn’t keeping it in anymore but if Virgil reacted in any negative way she wasn’t sure what she’d do. She hadn’t even told Leah yet and they were of the same house.
Which made her think, Is this betrayal? Am I leaving Leah behind? I don’t want her to feel hurt if she finds out I told him before her but what if what’s happening is bad? It wasn’t the first time she’s thought this as she’s run this conversation with each of them in her mind over and over in bed.

[quote]Voices...? What does she mean by that
Virgil frowns to the sound of her answer, biting his lower lip. That surely isn't what he was expecting. Though, frankly, the Slytherin boy's not sure of what exactly he'd been waiting for. He scratches the top of his head, confused, as the girl continues to explain herself, looking down, as confusion and pain color her expression. Uncertain, he puts his hand on her shoulder.
He's never heard someone mention something like this before (not even his dad when he talks about his crazy dragon adventure!), and it makes Virgil go a little scared for his friend. Trent had always fantasied about getting himself involved in some wacky adventure like that telling him about what a great hero he'd make, but if what Adlai is telling him is true... It looks like he got himself involved (kind of) before his cousin ever did.
"I... I never heard anything," confesses Virgil, looking at her, almost apologetic. He doesn't want to look like he doesn't believe in her or that he finds her crazy, but he doesn't know how to react to those news. "What do the... Voices tell you? Are they, I, I don't know, asking something?"

Adlai places her cold and clammy hand on top of Virgil’s. “At first it was just quite mumbles telling me to follow them, I ignored it but then whatever is calling me learned my name. It’s beginning to get louder everyday.” She said her voice cracking. She was so scared yet at the same time she had grown accustomed to this fear.
“I don’t want to tell any of the professors unless it’s something bad or dangerous. If this is something that’s normal for me to experience I don’t want to fight it. But at the same time...I want it to go away.”
Everything here, at Hogwarts, was far to new for Adlai. If you told her she was hearing voices because of something she drank or saw she’d believe you. Because, in the end she will never truly understand the world around her, there will always being something or someone she can’t get a grip on.
Moving stairs, living paintings, flying broomsticks. It didn’t feel real. There have been many occasions where Adlai thought this was all a dream and at some point she’d wake up at home with her sisters jumping up and down in her bed telling her to wake up because it was time to play.

[quote]Her cold touch seems to freeze him completely, as he stands still, staring at her, unable to say or do anything. A shiver runs down his spine and Adlai describe her experience with those voices. Virgil frowns, and it’s only sign of life that comes from him, as he stopped breathing completely.
Tell the teachers, it’s what he thinks, even though he has no right to tell Adlai that. The idea of hearing random voices that tell you to follow them creeps the living hell out of Virgil, but, if Adlai wants to continue to live like that, there’s nothing he can do...
“I,” he manages to choke out, looking down, seeming even more scared than her, for some reason, “I think you should tell them... At least, one of them. You don’t have to tell them the whole thing, just warn them, you know, because if something happens, then you tell them everything...” Virgil looks at her, almost pledging, “We need to do something about it... I-If you want, of course,”
He has no experience dealing with that sort of stuff, but he’s read many books and knows that pushing those signs aside would only bring more trouble later on. But, at the end of the day, it’s Adlai’s choice, not his.

“But which one of the professors would I tell? I’m not exactly close with any of them.” She said before taking her hand off of Virgil’s and walked over to a bench that was near by.
“Thank you for listening. I know it’s bazaar,” Adlai looked up at him, “And don’t worry I won’t pull you into anything dangerous. I know that’s probably the last thing you need on your plate.”
With there being a few moments of silence Adlai begins to try and lighten the mood, more or less change the topic entirely. “Schools almost out. Do you have any idea of what you’ll be doing? I know some kids stay behind for a “Summer Camp” type of program here.” She says.
Summer was always a bit unpleasant for her. Although she wore light colors, the fact that she had to wear long sleeves and pants didn’t help her when it came to the heat. If anything the constant cool weather is what she missed most about Iceland. She wants sure how her grandparents, on her mother’s side, were able to live in Afghanistan. The one time she had visited them she there she was sure she was going to have a heat stroke in the middle of the sidewalk.
