Sitting at his desk in his office, Zahid had for once not been busy with lesson preparations or grading unlike he was most times he was sitting there, no, he had been in the process of reading and answering correspondence from some of the people he had met on his travels.
Antonio and Constanza, his friends from Italy, for example, had inquired how the school had been treating him. He was unsure on what to write to them in return, as he did not wish to worry them with tales about what had happened in the forest – or worse, tell them about the Masquerade ball he had attended before hand. On the other hand, it felt disingenuous to simple give them a bland fine as an answer.
To tell the truth, he still was unsure about he felt teaching at the school. He had missed teaching, most definitely. But Hogwarts was so different to Garyounis. Not that he expected a school to be all that similar to a university, but the contrast still caught him by surprise occasionally. Not to mention that one had been a (mostly) Muggle institution and the other was purely magical.
Putting the letter aside for the moment, he grabbed another. He would answer them later after a bit more contemplation. The next letter he had no qualms answering quite blandly, however. He saw no point wasting time writing a long letter to someone who had only written him out of a sense of duty and – if their last correspondence was any indication – had no inclination of actually reading his letter.
Being done with that, Zahid grabbed the next letter only to start slightly in surprise as the penmanship did not seem particularly familiar to him. There was no address or return address on the letter, only an ominous We need to talk. Curious.
Looking at the letter, Zahid wondered why someone would send him such a letter – and who would have reason to. Shrugging to himself, he decided it would be easier to open the letter and find out rather than trying to puzzle it out.
Caradoc?
Well, he supposed both Caradoc and Professor Price had occasion to send such words, given the horrible incident of the hag in the night-time – but the letter was not about that, it seemed. (Or only in part.)
...after the students have gone to bed. Checking the time, Zahid realized that it probably already past the intended time – he had not expected to have an appointments to keep in the evening so he had not paid any attention to the time.
Still, he supposed being late might still be better than not showing up, so with a sigh he put his writing utensils aside, emptied his perpetual cup of tea and then made his way toward the Headmaster's office, grabbing his dark-blue cardigan off the two-seater in the corner. While his office had been cosy and warm, the corridors could be quite chilly in the evenings and the jeans and t-shirt he was wearing might be a little light.
“--y more will be arriving?”
Entering the Headmaster's Office, Zahid noted that it most likely was past the intended time as quite a few of his colleagues had already arrived. Giving the room a nod “Good evening Ladies and Gents. Apologies for the delay.” he stepped to the side to lean against the wall to wait for whatever meeting Caradoc called them here for to start. He glanced over his colleagues though he doubtlessly gave both Caradoc and Elliot a longer look, reflexively checking them over for injuries to see if they were alright. Logically he knew they would be by now, but that hag incident still sat like ice in his bones.

We need to talk.
Curled up with her knees piled on her chair, pressing a mug of molten chocolate to her lips, Cy smoothed the fingers of her other hand over the fresh parchment, given to her hours ago by Ceta, who had recited to her the words printed on the outside of the envelope before leaving her to open it. With another sip, she set the mug down with a soft clink against the wood of her table. She really needed to get herself some coasters before she damaged the table and Aoi somehow found out about it and sent her a howler.
Anyway, that was an ominous-sounding title, if anything. Obviously, nothing good would be in that letter, so she didn't expect good news. She could only hope that it wasn't terrible. Never one to wait, though, she slid her wand from her holster, sitting back to hold the paper out.
"Legere," she breathed over the letter, ghosting the tip of her wand over the parchment carefully from left to right. The familiar, sonorous voice read the contents aloud to her, a smooth contrast to her growing worry.
Come to think of it, she hadn't heard the Headmaster's voice in the halls for quite some time now, even if she rarely frequented the confusing corridors, and he hadn't been the most social of the staff, after all. She'd heard only rumors here and there about the attack - students' rumors were never to be trusted completely, and the spring season was always tough on workload - but the letter all but confirmed them. Details, though, could only be trusted from a good source, and that meant showing up at that meeting.
Running a hand over the bronze watchband on her wrist, she felt for an indication of the time, then - "Crap," she hissed aloud, releasing the letter to spring out of her seat. Curse her for not going through her papers more quickly. She grabbed a scarf from her desk, feeling around its surface before she got a good grip, tying it haphazardly at the back of her head - this one made of simple white silk with decorative beading on the edges. "Ceta? Ceta, are you there?"
"Here, Miss Cypresse," the House-Elf reported promptly. Her speech had always been somewhat more... distinguished than that of most House-Elves, for some reason unbeknownst to Cy herself.
"Jesus, I told you not to call me that. Anyway - can you get me to outside of the Headmaster's Office? I'm late and I've got neither the patience nor the time to get lost again, 'cause I'm late."
"Certainly, Miss Cypresse," Ceta responded, earning her an eye roll, barely disguised behind the gauzy fabric. Cy shrugged on her cropped leather jacket - it got chilly this time of night, especially with only a t-shirt on - untangled her skirt from the corner of the table, stuffed her wand into its holster, and took Ceta's hand in one hand and her cane with the other. They set off in this way, ensuring she wouldn't get lost.
The molten chocolate stayed forgotten on her desk.
"You'll want to go straight and then turn left for the door," the elf advised as they emerged from the top of the stairs. Another loud crack signaled Ceta's departure, and Cy placed a hand on the wall, low enough to avoid the sconces, to guide her. She could hear voices inside as she walked, unclear words intermingling with the sharper click of her ankle boots. They were loud enough to know where she was going, but either they were too muffled or she wasn't paying enough attention for her to decipher who they belonged to.
"Yo, sorry I'm... something minutes late," the young woman said as she entered. "Have I missed anything yet?" The atmosphere in the room felt quite different from the colder hallway outside - she couldn't feel the warmth of the fire, at least, which meant it wasn't lit, which was fine. Stone walls made pretty good insulation, after all.
From the sound of voices in the room, there were several people here already, although she didn't know which professors, exactly - probably most of them, since she was, you know, late. Just hopefully not last. "Cypresse Lian, Professor of Transfiguration, if there are any either new or forgetful faces, although I have no idea who I'm introducing myself to, if somebody doesn't mind... giving me a headcount or something of the sort...?"

Faces new and old streamed into the room which was starting to get packed. Not everyone had seemingly made it tonight, not that it severely worried the old badger. His colleagues were often busy with many tasks at hand. Such was a professor's life inside the castle. He turned towards the newly arrived professor.
"Miss Kibitzer. A new professor, I see..." His blue eyes were hidden under a heavily furrowed brow. Who accepted her to our staff then? "May I ask who is to thank for bringing you into our fold?" The question was as curious to him as it must have been to her. The old man would normally go over the matters of accepting new professors, but since he disappeared...
The face that followed soon after, he knew well. And she was able to make an entrance true to her character, as always. With a bit of a grin to her usual abruptness, he swiftly followed up with a more serious face as he nodded towards Nora. "Professor Jensen, thank you for making time. I understand your obligations and worries. Please ta-"
Two others entered as he spoke. professors Vernatis and MacTavish, each in their respective manner made their way into the office. One without uttering a single word, the other by a standard introduction. Dipping his head to both of them in greeting his hand almost shot up instantly in seeing his newly made friend Zahid join them. "And professor Zahid, glad to see you up and about. In good health from the looks of it?"
The last person to enter must have been the youngest member of their team present. A curious sight to behold among the handful of seasoned, grizzled, moody, and simply older colleagues around. Without delaying the inevitable any further, Caradoc clapped his hands for attention. It almost felt as if he was about to give class.
Stepping into the middle of the room, he made sure his voice was loud and clear. He would need to be concise and thorough about their current state of affairs. "While not all of us are here at the current moment, I would like to begin explain why I gathered you all here tonight."
"It's an understatement that this room is but a shell of what it once was. You all notice the missing portraits." He pointed upwards behind where some of the professors were standing. "Solomon's desk is split clean in half." He nodded over to the piece of furniture lying broken up the steps. "And as you can see, the old man is not here. He is missing." He'd wait a second to see if any of them gave any sort of peculiar reaction to this statement before continuing.
"As far as I can tell, our headmaster was last seen on the masquerade ball in October, that was almost five months ago now. How did we not notice sooner? Because the school has been seemingly running on itself. If anyone of you have seen the old man anytime later than this, please enlighten us further later on. For now, I will continue." In a small circle he began to walk around, meeting gazes as he proceeded to recollect past events.
"In that same event, we had invited over some esteemed guests from our Ilvermorny brothers and sisters across the Atlantic. Both their and our people were attacked on the very same night." He waved his hand around. "I do not know any specifics on what occured inside the ballroom when the part-giants began their assault." He took a split second to meet Maya's gaze. "This being because me and my two fellows, professors Zahid and Price, were led outside by yet another part-giant girl who had informed us of students fighting on the grounds." He allowed himself a few moments of recognition from both professors and Nora as well, as she was the one he had informed of his departure.
"We were led into a trap." A look of disgust grew on Caradoc's face. His usually glee demeanor making place for a look that made him seem far older than he was. Bags under his eyes and tips of silver glittering on the sides of his blond head. The unshaven jaw would still be prominent and was by now starting to get a little full, contrasting his normally clean-cut face. A flash of green before his eyes made him snap back to reality. "The girl turned out to be a hag. A hag set to kill three professors in the woods." He looked over to Elliot and Zahid to see if they had anything to add for detail or not. "It's rather evident we survived said encounter... though it was close..." He fell silent for a second as he took a deep breath, carrying on through his lecture.
"On one of my first nights here in the castle, Solomon came to me with a warning. He had suspicions that a coven of hags had infiltrated Hogwarts' surroundings. A ridiculous notion, I thought. However, being attacked by one does change one's opinion on the matter." With arms tied to his back, he walked up the steps that lead to the split desk. "After some time I came to check the old man's office and found it like this. Evidence shows a clean cut, splitting his desk in two. There are dead pygmy puffs, his pets, in the hearth. That is why I did not have it lit tonight. I apologise for the cold inside. I assume the portraits were removed to leave no witness behind."
Now he turned heel to face the assembled group of professors.
"Professors Price and Zahid, if you have anything to add on the matter please do share. Alaric, old friend, if you would be so kind to show around your letter to the rest of us. Is there anyone else amongst us that knows more about our current situation? We must be aware of the danger that advances towards our sacred halls. Students have already been in here. Some of them must know something's up.. and we can't have panic." His stare was void of emotion, the jolly irishman having slipped into his old persona of that of a ministry investigator. He waited for the others to speak. An unusual stern face now resting as he listened intently.

It seemed that for every long paused moment, a professor would walk through the entrance doors. So far eight had entered the Headmaster's Office after her, each having their reasons of coming moments later. Maya stayed sitting on the steps that divided the office into a split level. She did not need a chair nor did she want to stand. She already knew that she would be making quite the rounds after this meeting to ensure that all students were safely in their beds.
Watching each person, she couldn't help but to notice Boniface MacTavish, the Herbology professor give her a respectful nod. She remembered meeting him the night of the Masquerade Ball and the uniqueness of his mask. Nodding back, she looked down and wondered if he had seen her accidentally wound a student or if he was busy with his own tasks helping the students in the ballroom. Shaking her head, Maya knew that her mind couldn't go back there. She was strong, not weak and needed to focus on whatever the matter at hand may be tonight.
The next interesting face that walked into the room was the Divination's professor. Maya had never met the woman before. She wondered if this woman would be a "character" like the others in the past. There was always some kind of stereotype that fell onto teachers who taught Divination. And lastly, the next woman who caught her eye was Professor Jenson, the Slytherin Head of House. They had gotten close the year prior but it slowly fell apart. Maya was not good at keeping the communication between the two ongoing, however, with all that's happened in Hogwarts thus far, it was difficult to make time.
Every professor who walked in had introduced themselves to one another. Maya, who walked in after Professor Griffith, felt the need not to do so, nor to do so at that moment. The muggle studies professor would rather stay a mystery to some.
Caradoc had finally begun the meeting. Maya, arms crossed and hunched forward, listened carefully to the Head of Hufflepuff's words.
"You all notice the missing portraits." ... "Solomon's desk is split clean in half."
As Caradoc was describing what was different about the room, Maya's eyes followed. She looked on the walls and the walls empty that once had portraits of past Headmasters. Seeing the darker squares and rectangles against the wall showed where the portraits were hung. And finally, she looked over to Lear's desk and saw that it was beautifully split in half. The work of someone incredibly strong..., she thought and her mind went back to the giants that attacked that night. But could it be?
Maya's heart dropped. It had been five months after the Masquerade Ball and she had not noticed that Lear was missing. Most commonly because she wanted to keep some distance from him after her terrible attempt of helping the children. It was embarrassing to her. But now she felt sick to her stomach that she never once thought about seeing if Lear was alright. And now, for five whole months, he had been missing from right under our noses.
Maya listened to Caradoc's horrific battle along with Professors Equinox and Price. She remembered Caradoc telling her about that night when she went for a drink at the Hog's Head and he ran into her, drinking as well. It was truly a surprise that they should have never gone through. No one should have that night.
"Alaric, old friend, if you would be so kind to show around your letter to the rest of us."
Maya's back straightened at the introduction that there would be a first "clue" as to what may have happened to Lear. We know that could be the hags that took over Hogwarts that night, but how could someone so strong be gone so quickly? Was it quickly or was this whole disappearance gradual? No one knew, unless someone came up with more information other than Professor Equinox and his letter.

Probably killed, then. Griffith wrote the headmaster off in his head as a lost cause, an old man who couldn't cut it when the chips were down. He already knew of the hags in the forest, he still had a number of voodoo dolls in his possession, his pocket, even. But that didn't seem to be something that would be wise to bring up. He had no desire to share what he had learned with his fellow faculty. They could deal with this problem, and he would teach, just as he always had. If their plans turned sour, he would leave then to fix their own debacle. Not his monkeys, not his zoo.
So he said nothing, only turned his shoulder to the group a little bit more, lowering his eyes to hide them behind his wild hair, looking down into the depths of his cavernous pocket. He wasn't a fan of the headmaster being killed, or abducted. And he really didn't like the idea of letting the pygmy puffs lay there, dead. It hurt him more than the absence of the old man. Would they have left a human like that, just wallowing in some fireplace for the purpose of crime scene preservation?
But as much as he wanted to say something about that, he wouldn't. He would wait until everyone else left, and then he would take care of the dead. Realizing it was going to take a while, he decided instead to survey the bookshelves, thanking his lucky stars that the late headmaster was an avid magizoologist, he pulled a relevant title, cracked it open and began to read.
He kept his breathing even, and the book close. Avoid eye contact, and wait for them to slowly filter out. Aside from the crime scene, there wasn't a lot of news here. He had almost been caught in that blasted forest, herding a gaggle of children with sticky fingers somewhere safe. Ridiculous. He had come to Hogwarts for shelter, certainly not to provide any.
The annoyingly sharp-tongued blind girl and the jaw-clenchingly pretentious red room knockoff chick entered a bit late, probably to be fashionable. Because of course they did.

Rosalind reached down to her pockets, patting herself to check that she had all of her necessities. Wand, check. A deck of cards, check. She dug a hand into her pocket and fidgeted with them, feeling the card sliding along her thumb. She couldn't sit still from the moment Caradoc had turned his gaze to her. Was it all set up for this? The whole thing, a trap? She stared back at him for a moment. She felt like a suspect. It made her nervous. It made her seem suspicious.
"I received a letter from the Headmaster," she said, struggling to find her breath and speak up to the man. She had done nothing wrong, to her knowledge, but that had never kept her out of trouble in the past. "I only just got here." The woman shook her head subtly, trying to dismiss her thoughts. Turning a new leaf had never been so stressful. And to think, the grass had looked so much greener on this side.
But then Professor Jensen arrived, granting Rosalind a brief respite as Caradoc looked away and smiled. The head of Slytherin seemed to be an ally in the new Divination professor's eyes, and she shuffled closer to the other woman, her lips curling into a small frown as she spoke of the students. No wonder the common room had been in such a great state of chaos.
Professor Browne's clapping interrupted her thoughts. She looked at him with a cocked eyebrow. That was an interesting way to get the attention of a group of adults - and yet it was remarkably effective. She'd have to keep that one in mind if she wasn't burned at the stake on her first week in upon suspicion of... disappearing her new employer. He wasn't wrong about the room. It had looked so impressive when she had first visited to speak to the Headmaster. The current arrangement was decidedly more apocalyptic. And yet Hogwarts carried on. How charmingly British.
"The masquerade ball in October?" the new professor repeated in disbelief. Five months without a Headmaster? If this had happened at Ilvermorny, the professors likely would have just decided to eliminate the position. The apparent severity of the situation was undermined somewhat by the comical obliviousness of the faculty. Then again, she had thought the Headmaster was present, too - after all, he just hired her. She examined the cut in the desk, recalling when she had sat across from Lear to deliver her qualifications. Straight down the middle.
"Does the Headmaster have a sword?" the professor asked quietly. An odd time for idle curiosity. In her mind's eye, she could see him in his heavy armor, but couldn't recall if he carried a weapon with him. It made sense to her that the destruction of the desk would be done by mundane means - there was no satisfaction in surgically destroying furniture with a wand. It was too easy. "Hags attacking on the night of Ilvermorny's visit... funny. I'm no expert on magical beings but that seems weirdly coordinated, unless the hags have suddenly developed a taste for American children."
This was not a very helpful analysis. Of course it was all strange. Professor Kibitzer swallowed, her throat feeling tight and her breaths growing more shallow as she tried to say anything that would bury the suspicion she could feel fixated upon her. How convenient for an American to arrive shortly after a great debacle with the Americans.

Elaine did not like being late. It insinuated both a lack of manners as well as a lack of respect towards the people she was supposed to meet, beyond being a bad example to all the students she routinely told that she expected them to be on time for their classes and appointments.
She had gotten out of a late meeting with the Board of Governors a quarter of an hour ago, however.
They had noticed that something was amiss in Hogwarts castle. If Elaine had to pinpoint when the too strange, too coincidental incidents had started to take place, she would date it around the time of the Masquerade Ball in Honor of the Ilvermorny’s students’ arrival last year – which, curiously enough, was also when the Headmaster had suddenly disappeared from the school. It was as if he had traded places with Lazarus Plott, who was still stalking the walls of Hogwarts as if he didn’t have his own school to take care of on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
She wasn’t a suspicious witch by definition, having seen too many events happen that others would have declared unbelievable or straight up untrue, but there was no doubt in Elaine’s mind that the Ilvermorny Headmaster was at once somehow involved in the disappearance of their own Headmaster as well as in one way or another related to the attacks on Hogwarts – because that was what they were – that had taken place since that ill-fated ball.
The governors thankfully hadn’t connected the dots about the violent incidents and the presence of Lazarus Plott yet, but they had drawn the obvious line to a Headmaster that simply wasn’t there.
Hogwarts Headmasters were known to be eccentric, apparently it was almost a requirement of the position, but there was only so much the Board of Governors would tolerate before they decided to take action – they were toeing a fine line between what could still be explained away and what would lead to an outright investigation into the proceedings of Hogwarts’ inner workings.
Her presence had calmed the witches and wizards in the governing council down enough to not press matters immediately, but there was only a set amount of time to be gained by a show of competence and assurance of protocols followed – Elaine had told them in a measured, even tone, that all classes were held as scheduled and that neither the education nor the health of their children or grandchildren were in danger. That was mostly true so far, but the Gryffindor Head of House knew that should worst come to worst they would need outside interference to protect the students.
As for Solomon Lear… she’d informed the twelve Governos that “The Headmaster is merely temporarily unavailable due to pressing personal obligations” – which sounded a lot better than “He’s vanished and we have no bloody clue where he is”.
She entered the Headmaster’s Office just in time to hear who she assumed to be the new Divination Professor incredulously ask, "The masquerade ball in October?"
Well, it seemed her arrival wasn’t that ill-timed.
The room was crowded. All of the other Heads of House were in attendance, as was maybe half of the professors. Some of them looked distressed, her niece looked downright hostile, while others appeared unfazed by the destruction inside the office.
Elaine was not and would never be comfortable in the presence of so many in parts very powerful wizards and witches, and she felt the shadows under her dark red gown shift on her skin, ready to defend in case of attack, or maybe to strike first if she gave them the chance. They hadn’t been this agitated in her first years of teaching at Durmstrang, but maybe that was a misconception born of herself having been too nervous to notice back then.
“Good evening,” she greeted the room’s occupants quietly, standing off to the side while she continued to listen to the new Professor speak.

Elliot remained quiet as another handful of staff members entered the room. He would simply just step aside to make room and offer nods and waves of greeting as he awaited the right moment to address the group. His warm brown eyes would widen as the Head of Slytherin spoke of yet another attack on the students. “My goodness...” he mumbled to himself as she spoke. It seemed no matter what precautions they took, nothing was working to keep the students safe. It also reassured his suspicions that something dark was growing right under their noses. As the introductions and brief conversations began to die down, he listened to Caradoc’s tale before clearing his throat and stepping forward.
“Yes, Caradoc. I...have something to add...well, something to admit as well.” His voice was deep and clear, but perhaps a slight bit of hesitation could be detected in his pauses. It wasn’t until this very moment that he began to doubt himself. To think himself stupid for not coming to the Heads of Houses or his fellow staff sooner. The intention was to gather evidence, to connect all of the dots before raising concern. He would have to just accept any anger or frustration on their part and continue on. It was time to share what he knew.
“I must admit that this is not my first time to this office since...whatever happened here, happened. In fact, I have been suspicious that the Headmaster was missing for sometime now. Some time ago I was approached by a pair of students that went looking for the Headmaster and found his office in the state that you see it now. They came to me directly and brought me to the scene.”
“When we entered, it appeared that the door was smashed inwards, either by powerful magic or brute force. Like you see now, the desk was split, the portraits were missing, and the poor Pygmys had met their doom. However what we did find was a series of notes and letters that seemed to hold cryptic messages that I assume were left by Lear himself. Upon receiving the Owl from Caradoc earlier today, I assumed this would be the topic of discussion and have brought with me what I’ve gathered so far.”
Elliot would reach into his robes and remove a few pieces of parchment and lay them out on one of the desk halves for the others to see.

“Now, it took some doing but the children and I were able to decipher most of what is hidden in the writings. The first one is rather simple. When read backwards it reads, ‘EVIL BLOOD WAR, HAG.’ It is also addressed to a Dolores just like the second letter here.”
“This one seems rather odd, but if you look closely, you will see that some of the letters are embellished. If I am not mistaken they read, ‘SHE WAS MURDERED BY FINLEY.’ The date at the top is still a mystery to me.”
“The third one is not addressed to a Dolores, but much as the second one here, it is clear that some of the letters have been embellished. They read, ‘TAKE TO NORA.’” Elliot’s eyes would quickly glance to Professor Jensen before continuing. “It also seems to ask for the ingredients necessary for brewing the Draught of Living Death.”
He would briefly pause to allow the others to see what he had presented them. If any of the others began to protest or chastise him, Elliot would raise a hand in hopes for just a few more moments of silence. He needed them to see what he saw. He needed them to understand, to validate his growing paranoia.
“Please, if I may just continue for a moment. There is a bigger picture here. I’m not sure how up to date you all are in what’s going on in our world, so I apologize if I am repeating what you already know.”
“As Caradoc has told you, we were attacked by a Hag the same night the school was assaulted by a pair of half giants. If you have read any of the latest issues of the Daily Prophet you may have read about a group of squibs that are calling themselves S.C.A.R. This stands for the Squib Committee Advocating Revolution, among their ranks...plenty of half giants from Ireland and Scotland. They claim to be originally founded to advocate for Squib rights, but the group has quickly turned into a terrorist organization. In January of this year, they poisoned the patrons at the Leaky Cauldron with the Draught of Living Death. They would go on to murder twelve of them.”
“Now, if you look back to the letters, they do seem to warn of these events. Headmaster Lear has already warned of Hags present near Hogwarts. The ‘Evil Blood War’ I believe is what the S.C.A.R. organization is hoping to start. The third letter seems to warn of the Draught of Living Death. I cannot be certain, but it is my belief that the coven of Hags have struck a deal with the S.C.A.R. organization and they were responsible for the attack during the Masquerade Ball. I also believe that Headmaster Lear had found this out before his...disappearance.”
Elliot would stop there and scan the room. “May I ask if anyone else has noticed the strange occurrences going on?”

Have you seen this man?
Artemis just stood staring at the information that was verbally handed around the room. Between Browne announcing that there were hags and crazed half-giant children running around amongst their own students to Price and Equinox's letters from the headmaster himself being obscure, it was all overwhelming. It was probably more overwhelming for the youngest member in the room since she couldn't see what everyone was either pointing to or alluding to. Artemis narrowed his eyes at the two men before moving over to Lian, who was still standing nearby and took her arm gently to guide her over to a chair. "I don't know if you wish to sit, but here's a chair for you," he said in a low voice meant only for the young woman's ear. "As you have just heard, the Headmaster is missing and apparently has been missing for almost six months. His desk is sliced in half, he left Price some notes with secret messages, left Equinox some strange message about dhamphirs, and both Price and Browne were attacked by a hag while our students were dealing with the disastrous dance in October and half-giants. The portraits in the room are also missing, most likely to avoid telling the rest of us anything of import to help us find Lear."
Standing upright from Lian, Artemis looked out over the room and addressed the man who had called them all there. "It is understandable that one wouldn't wish to cause a panic, especially amongst the student body, but it seems to me as if not everyone in this room had knowledge of hags being on the grounds for the last five months. Don't you think it would have been prudent to inform all of the staff of these...let's call them creatures, being near our students? And I'm not saying that we needed to form a hunt to search for them. That would be damn near suicide, but it would have been nice to know that we have a threat upon us. Who's to say that the hags aren't what is causing all of this disruption around the school?"
Artemis was upset. Very little at the two professors before him, though they were at fault for withholding this information and he needed someone to vent his current frustrations out on, but mostly at himself for not noticing these strange happenings around the school for the last five months. Both Browne and Price had to have had their reasons for not telling the rest of the staff about that trap or about the hags, but a little forewarning would have still been appreciated. The frustrated man was also annoyed with himself as he was avoiding the Daily Prophet these last few months as he wallowed in his own self-pity. He had no idea what this S.C.A.R. nonsense was, but now was not the time to be initiating a new war and he could only hope that it wasn't going to end up being one. Inhaling deeply and then releasing the held breath, Artemis asked, "So, are we to assume that a hag took Lear? Or should we try to see what one of Pendrast's lion cubs have found out so far pertaining to this mystery? I understand that we do not wish to cause panic amongst the students so if we decide to ask the Gryffindors, I say that we have Elaine pick out her most trustworthy cubs and see what they may know by now. And what of this Delores woman? I've only heard about her from the rumour mill years ago and how she was just plain insane, but why would the Headmaster have anything to do with her now?"
It was the only input Artemis felt he could give. It probably wasn't even a sound idea or a needed one, but he felt left out and useless. He didn't have a fancy mysterious letter to put in the circle of information. He didn't have information from a student. He wasn't dragged into an issue nor was he at the ball in October to be involved with the dangers that befell two of the staff members present. He didn't even talk to the Headmaster often enough to know that the man was missing for five months. So if he couldn't do anything else, he could at least toss ideas out there for everyone to think about.

Have you seen this man?

Hjørdis did not bother to respond to Caradoc. With the state of Hogwarts the way it was, she had little time for idle chitchat or politeness. They had to get to the bottom of what was happening and fast. Time was of the essence here. If this was not incredibly important for the safety of the children that resided within these walls, she would not be here.
The meeting began with Caradoc explaining Lear's disappearance. Last sighted at Halloween. Hjørdis did not recall seeing him at the ball but her visit was fleeting, given it took less than fifteen minutes for an issue to arise. But she did recall the Hufflepuff head of house informing her about a fight that he was going to sort out, whilst she went to deal with the student dhampir losing control. With every word he said, her heart sunk a little and dread filled it. A trap, a hag, a coven...
Price continued, presenting letters from Lear. She blinked, staying in her spot to allow others to read it first. Her eyes narrowed a little as he continued to speak. 'She was murdered by Finley'? Finley...? It was the last one that surprised her the most. Lear wrote a letter to her? Her mind wracked over the words that Price spoke, quickly stepping forward to see the letters for herself. He wanted them taken to her... Her heart started to pound in her chest. This whole thing seemed so surreal. It could not be happening... and yet, it was. Professors were attacked by hags on the same night as the students were attacked in the ball. The professors were intentionally dragged away for the purpose of hurting the children? At least, Caradoc was allured away. On top of everything, Lear had written clues and letters to them. To her.
She wanted to question this whole thing. But her mind was still trying to process all of the information that Price had said. He continued before she had a chance. How would Lear have known about the coven of hags and S.C.A.R's intention? If he knew, why didn't he close down the school...? What the hell was going on? Only Lear could answer the questions but he was not here. Why did he want her to receive them? Because of the potions...? No, he would have sent them to Price. Did she know a Dolores?
Looking back at Price, she nodded and spoke up, "Slytherin was attacked, they are still recovering." She had already brought up the situation earlier but now seemed like the time to expand on what she knew, as little as that may be. It was still a very fresh incident, with students still healing their wounds. She had not even had the time to fix the broken common room. There were scorch marks and broken furniture everywhere. "Spiders. The students claimed they vanished when hit by lumos. But it left a lot of my students poisoned, severely injured or knocked unconscious." She paused before bringing up something that she found strange at the time but could not bring it up then, "A lot repeated the same things. Two students heard noises from their dorms, everyone followed to the common room and... it ended up like this. I was out patrolling the grounds that night, I saw nothing enter."
Of course she could have missed it but... was a hoard of spiders that easy to miss? Perhaps Griffith had a bunch of secret spiders already within the castle walls, she did not know. She confirmed either way that she did not see the spiders, just in case anyone thought she was cruel enough to see an army of spiders and do nothing about it - which would not have surprised her in the least given how little most of them knew her. She was a private person by nature and only her closest would know anything about her. There was no doubt that she had far more enemies or just civil relationships here than friends. Hell, Griffith would probably be the first to suspect her of allowing that. "They had all disappeared by the time I arrived, as well." It could have been a coincidence. Of course it could have... But Hjørdis had a name in heart and thinking it over would just fill it with more dread that her suspicion was right.
Her explanation of the events was brief. But she had little information to begin with. It seemed that the other professors had a lot more, with the information of hags being on the grounds. She was definitely miffed about the lack of information in this whole situation.
Finley..., she thought to herself, her heart dreading to continue. Her eyes scanned the room, Vancleaf was not present. She turned to the Hufflepuff Head of House in a flash, "Were non-professor staff invited to this?" She asked him abruptly, wondering if Vancleaf had gotten the invite to be here or not. He was the only Finley that both Lear and herself actually knew. She hated to think he had anything to do with this - whatever this was. But she needed to find out. Who was 'she' who was murdered and was it him...? Her eyes scanned the letters. Finley murdered this Dolores? Why could she not recall a Dolores? Her eyes flickered up to the date Price mentioned. 4.4.24... The numbers did not ring any bells. But perhaps her judgement was clouded from the huge offload of information everyone was giving.
Vernatis said something that caught her attention, "You know which Dolores these are addressed to?" She asked him straight up as he mentioned a rumour mill. "And do we know any Finleys?" She asked the room, kind of hoping that others knew of another. She did not want to instantly put such a huge accusation onto someone without more proof.
The Charms Professor said another thing that confused her. He specifically mentioned Gryffindor students, twice. "Did something happen to the Gryffindors?" She added, looking between Vernatis and her aunt who headed up the house. If something had happened, Hjørdis was unaware of it and wanted more information on how the lions were related to this mystery. They could easily have been attacked the same time as Slytherin from the sounds of it.
