thank you Taliesin Annwyn!
«Quentin, did you not hear him? Raphael said this one game before I get him back. But fair enough, have your fun.» She teased, her hands raised in mock-surrender before giving a quick salute with a dip of her head. While grappling for the quaffle built up that adrenaline rush Kit craved, there was a comfort and almost pride in being a dependable role keeping others in the air and in the game.
The new captain's acknowledgement would only pile on, a loose smile forming. "You keep the team in line, I keep them in the sky- sounds like a plan, Captain."
For everyone else, the start of a game was fast. That rush to the ball with laser focus, the advantage gained from being first and getting that bit of surprise before everyone got a feel of the field. The same was not true on save duty. Instead, the start was observation, determining who had all the unwanted attention and might need some later help. As to be expected, the Beaters wanted bloodshed from their own, spotting the high speed bludger just as it crashed into Raphael, a cloud of splinters hiding the start of the figure's fall.
All she had in her mind was saving her teammate, the bludgers and opposing team vanished from the field as she dove down. It would only be as the ball grew impossibly big that Kit realized the danger, cursing as she shoved herself down and across the broom. It sharply whistled past, spraying the back of her neck from the rain. A hand outreached, her focus returned to Raphael and scooping him up with the back of her broom. It wasn't as graceful as preferred, but it was hard to do that and focus on the new person barreling towards them. The lost speed posed a bit of a challenge, but she had enough reflex and practice to swoop to the side and out of the way as the moderator called out Matthews.
«This seems a little early to see you again- you do know you were supposed to keep your broom, right?»

Landon was still a little thrown off by being assigned to be a Chaser for this match, but he was happy to be part of the action. Most Quidditch matches, Landon was sitting on the bench as the second-string Keeper, so it was fun to be an active participant. He couldn't quite focus on everything that was going on at once. He had practiced with the Hufflepuff team before, of course, but it was a little different when he didn't know each person's playing style like he did his Hufflepuff teammates.
So when he accidentally got distracted by everyone else and he sped toward an opponent on the other team, Landon was a little glad to see that they had dodged his accidental attack. "Sorry!" he shouted, both at Felix and Evelyn. He looked anxious as he heard that he was required to take a penalty lap. Landon was never the type of person to break the rules, but it was accidental. He sighed but started to take his penalty lap, because even if it had been an accident, he still had done it. He wasn't going to argue.
While taking his penalty lap, Landon tried to focus on the match at hand, observing and anxiously waiting to join the game again. He would focus more on everything instead of being distracted from now on.

Raphael was only mildly surprised to see Quentin join them as well, and offered him a half-smile in greeting. The Beauxbatons team was really well-represented in this game. "We'll see about that," he shrugged, then eyed the Beater. "Maybe you should be worried about me taking your job, huh?" Unlikely, Quentin was lethal on the pitch. They wouldn't have won last summer's game without him.
The game started off quick and dirty, mud splashing as they kicked off, and fouls falling along with the rain. Contrary to his usual habits, however, Raph's first order of business was entirely legal: Batting one of the iron Bludgers at the other team's keeper. Swinging his bat with his full strength, he relished the sharp crack of his bat colliding with the ball, then watched it shoot through the air and take the girl clean off her broom. This was fun.
He'd hit it with enough strength that it bounced back with significant speed, but to no avail; he supposed it would have been too much to ask that the beefy beater of the other team accidentally got knocked off his broom, too. He also paid for the distraction.
Being new to the role, and rather unknown in international Quidditch circles, he'd sort of hoped to fly under the radar, at least for a little while. Quentin was the obvious threat from their team, he'd sort of thought they'd go for him first. Clearly, he'd been wrong. The Bludger hit by both opponent beaters hit his side with enough force that he could feel his ribs crack. (The feeling was familiar.) He gasped through the pain, and then he was falling, wooden splinters raining around him.
Not for long, though. They'd been on the same team long enough that he'd come to expect it, braced himself for the refreshed shock of pain when Kit pulled him from his free fall onto her broom with her usual precision. The sad pieces of his borrowed broom, however, disappeared in the rain below them. "Shit," he cursed under his breath, then winced at the pain in his side while Kit expertly swerved to dodge yet another incoming attack. "Didn't want you to miss me too much," he replied flatly, trying to spot the remains of his broom. "That was borrowed. Do you think that's fixable?"

ReducioIn the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice at disadvantage (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself). Ricochet damage is 75% of the original hit.In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.
Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

A summer away from competitive play had apparently made Mamori forget the limitations of being benched. The field stretches wide, noise crashes in waves, and the starters racing around up there barely had enough brain capacity to remember which way was forward, let alone process complex tactical instructions barked from the sidelines. At this point, shouting basic mindless encouragement seemed the most practical approach.
Though Mamori did find pure cheerleading a bit too monotonous, so amid the usual "Go get 'em, big guy! Destroy them!" he sprinkled in actual tactical advice like "Skip the torso, go for the skull!" to the most intimidating beater @Sara Kohana on the team, because nothing says tactical genius quite like suggesting headshots.
The big guy did not disappoint. Together with Oonagh, they sent a bludger careening toward the opposing beater with such force it split the poor sod's broom clean into pieces, though somehow the target remained conscious with the stubborn durability of a fucking cockroach. Mamori's attention however, had already shifted to the redhead who'd swooped in for the rescue; some instinct he couldn't quite name told him she posed a far greater threat than the cockroach dude and those absurd chasers who'd kept Maisie scoreless combined.
It was at this moment that the bench teammate beside him, @Louca Dufort — fresh off his enthusiastic bouncing routine and exhibiting symptoms suspiciously resembling ADHD — produced a comment about enjoying the different view with an effortless success energy that absolutely reeked of someone who'd probably been promoted to starting lineup immediately (never experiencing the character-building joy of warming the bench), the exact flavor Hufflepuff's Camilla Carter served up daily, making bitterness feel like a completely reasonable reaction.
"You seem rather fond of bench duty," He couldn't help but respond with a touch of acid. "Next time we're on the same team, I'll be sure to secure you that spot again."xx ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Her nervousness and excitement were observable. She didn’t notice this. All her attention was on her teammates and opponents in the sky. Every second, the movement changed so fast. As much as she observed, she wanted to analyze the strategies of both her team and the opposing team. She muttered something to herself until she noticed there was another girl with red-gold curls sitting next to her. (@Taliesin Annwyn) The girl seemed to be a first-year student too. Rosaline turned her face to the girl and greeted, “Hello, I’m Rosaline Everhart, the benched Seeker. What do you think about this match so far?” She grinned and waited for the girl’s response.
In the meantime, their team’s strategy worked really well, and they gained fifty points. Rosaline exclaimed, “Let’s go!” Her cheek was flushed with rosy pink from the excitement. She enjoyed the Quidditch, even as a benched player; her level of commitment was still high. “Our quaffle strategy played out so well,” she said to the girl next to her with a cheerful voice. Their teammates seemed so experienced. Rosaline wondered how she could be like them. It requires a lot of practice and hard work. As she kept noting all the little details in the sky in her mind, she gained more insight into this match.Action: As strategisedstats

Despite his love for the game, Nicholas could not help but zone out somewhat during the goings on of the match. It wasn’t that he wasn’t interested, but his mind wandered off to distant places. Part of being on the bench, he supposed. Not that he ever got much in the way of game time when he did play for the house team. Last in to the team, last out on the pitch. He beat back a yawn in spite of himself, even as he watched some French kid’s broom get broken in half. He wanted to be out there, he wanted to be the one taking down opponents and breaking bones.
Was that violent? He supposed it was. Maybe such thoughts weren’t appropriate for a friendly match. But he could not bring himself to particularly care, he did not know any of the foreign students, and he did not have any energy to bring himself to know them. In a year or so, he would be graduated, and he’d likely forget half of his Hogwarts classmates, why bother learning the names of some kids from half way around the world?
He shook his head. When did he become such a dour person? Sometimes, he barely recognised himself. Throwing away those thoughts, he clapped his hands together and whistled. Least he could do was cheer on his team.

A joke? Maybe not. The grin looks real enough. Felix-san piled on.“Captain, I believe in you. Quentin Gagné, at your service.”
His English crawls up slow. "Th‑that is…" he says, eyes sliding between them, mind suddenly empty. Instead, he pivots. "We… we do our best. Make it a good game, ne" The vowels come out flat, Nagano thick in his tongue. A part of him wishes he could take the words back and try again, softer."You keep the team in line, I keep them in the sky- sounds like a plan, Captain."
But he was saved from further interactions as the whistle sounded, signalling the start of the game. Kiyoshi almost follows the other players out into the pitch, before he stops himself. Different rule for a different game. And the second-string players wait.
Instead he watches as the players take to the sky. There is too much movement to follow everything. If he looks at something, he misses something else.
It was Pritchard‑san who kept drawing his eyes. Again. And again. He doesn’t seem fight for the quaffle long. Just for long enough. Guard, redirect, let Morris‑san be the hammer.
The scoreboard rings again. It is fifty points for their team. People on the bench are shouting names, clapping, leaning out over the rail. His throat wants to stay shut. But Pritchard‑san has done the same thing multiple times now. Not showing off. Just working. For the team.
"Nice read, Pritchard‑san!" He calls before he can really stop himself. "Good play."
A sound distracted him. The sound is a crack and a crunch together, broom and body and Bludger all in one straight line. Splinters go everywhere. The ball even keeps going, hungry for someone else.
Something in his chest answers it. Stands up. Yes, that's it.
He can almost feel the weight of the bat in his own hands. Can almost taste the sweet spot of the swing. It hits someplace deep within him. A deep sense of rightness that can't quite be placed into words.
Then his mother’s voice cuts across it. You are not a weapon.
The thrill twists in his gut, and dies instantly.
Felix‑san catches Aveline‑san before the ground can. Good. Good. That is ... Good?
He swallows the last of the taste of that hit and forces his eyes away from the wreckage, back to where Pritchard‑san is already moving again.
"Pritchard‑san!" His voice comes out lower than he intends, but it carries. "Watch out for their Beaters now."Stats:

Bright eyes tracked the movements of the players through the sky, only tearing her focus away when the girl beside her spoke up and introduced herself. Offering a bright smile, she replied, "I'm Taliesin Annwyn, benched Keeper." she smoothed a damp curl back out of her face before turning her gaze back to the game, "I think we've got a pretty strong team with quick reflexes, so I think it'll be an exciting game."
Thus far, they seemed to have a pretty good handle on everything as their team scored themselves fifty points, to which Taliesin couldn't help but jump to her feet about. Ever since coming to Hogwarts, going to Quidditch matches had become one of the few events Taliesin hadn't minded working into her busy schedule. The energy and the mayhem and excitement of it all was worth it..
"Agreed. I think it helps a lot that we've got plenty of people who know what their doing." she pointed out, "I've never played before," she admitted honestly, "But I don't think I'm too worried about that." between watching Livia closely to try to get an idea of what she should to if she has to go in, and the confidence she was getting from watching the competence of her own team, it helped to sooth her nerves.
"The girl who carried her last name like a burden..."

The other team's seeker, Jake Morris of Hogwarts' Hufflepuff House, seemed to be just about as dismal of a seeker as Ginyami had thought he'd be; at least so far. He didn't even seem to be looking for the snitch, much less glimpsing it. Still, Ginyami knew better than to get complacent. He couldn't afford to focus his efforts on finding the snitch elsewhere just because his opponent was.
It didn't take a genius to do the math: one quaffle scored through a goal was 10 points. It would take 15 goals to even manage to break even with the number of points the snitch was worth, which was 150, and that was assuming that the other team scored no points whatsoever. What was more was that the game didn't end until the snitch was caught. That meant it was completely dependent on the seekers of each team whether the game would last five minutes or five days. Ginyami didn't intend to let the game last any longer than it had to, especially when the longer it went on, the more quaffle goals could be earned by the other team.
As much as there was going on around him and as much as he was used to, as his school team's keeper, keeping up with all that activity, he forced himself to ignore it all for now. Even Sara, who he wanted so badly to keep tabs on and give encouragement to, was someone he had to avoid getting distracted by just then. Instead, he watched for a glint of gold anywhere in the airspace of the quidditch pitch.

Reducio- In the role of Seeker when you have found the snitch, if someone attempts to use Alley Oop to help you find the snitch, you will not have disadvantage. However, with this broom you do not gain the +1 chance to grab the snitch for rounds that the Alley Oop is used. To clarify, each round someone attempts to grab a snitch they get a +1 to the attempt and this stacks. There is no bonus (or stack from this round's attempt to grab) to grabbing the snitch.
- In the role of Seeker, if an opponent attempts to Bludger or Blatch you, there is a 20% chance that you veer out of the way the last second and another enemy player at RANDOM is targeted instead.
Note: The new target still gets their normal dodge attempt. This is not considered to be an auto-dodge, in fact this roll is done before any accuracy rolls are done.
- In the role of Seeker, when using the search action if you critically fail on your search you get a re-roll in an attempt to find the snitch. In an attempt to grab the snitch, if you critically fail on your attempt to grab the snitch you get to re-roll your attempt to grab the snitch.

Was Julian... good at this? He would've never thought so, terrified as he was of losing control of his broom and falling to his death. But when the match started, that didn't happen. Instead he caught the quaffle, an actual useful thing! And then he passed, a little frantically perhaps, in the direction of what might've been Jake. (Was Jake a chaser or a seeker? He wasn't sure, but that was definitely Jake, and Jake had caught the quaffle.) And then, an even weirder thing happened - Jake scored. He must've been a chaser then.
"You did it!" Julian called out towards his friend as he passed him in the air.
Julian pointed his broom back towards the quaffle when he suddenly heard his name. Was someone cheering him? He couldn't help it, he grinned, his ear suddenly feeling a smidge hot.
"Thank you!" he called out towards the stands, unsure if his voice had made it across. He always had some trouble figuring out how hard to yell when people were far away. It always sounded too loud in his ears. But with how far he was and how fast he was moving -- the wind wooshing in his ears -- he was scared even his loudest wasn't loud enough.
Soon, he had caught the quaffle again and he passed it along to Jake again. Why mess with what worked?

1. In the role of Chaser when you attempt to catch a passed Quaffle (such as when the Keeper has possession of the Quaffle and passes it to a teammate) you have advantage (meaning that it is rolled twice and you keep the better option) on attempts to catch if the opponent team attempts to intercept.
2. In the role of Chaser, as a free action if the user of this broom is successful in the quafflegrab they can as a free action pass the Quaffle to another user in an attempt to score. There is a chance of the quaffle being intercepted, however due to the fact that the user is "so fast" with the quaffle this would be considered "surprising" and the attempt to score would be done at +3 accuracy by the player it was passed to in an attempt to score.
Note: The attempt to score would be an automatic attempt by the user that catches the passed quaffle.
3. In the role of Chaser, if you have a contested quaffle grab and a contested strength roll between yourself and another user is in progress, unless they have the same broom, you would be the victor of the contested quaffle grab. In addition, rounds where you are successfully carrying the quaffle in an attempt to score, you only take half-damage from bludgers and blatching attempts.
