"Annie ROSALINE Morgan how do you manage to burn cranberries!" A petite brunette woman with grey streaks waddled with a ferocious speed through the kitchen, oven-mitt covered hand holding a smoking pot with the remnants of cranberries, not that you could tell what they were upon closer inspection anyways.
The long-haired girl hobbled down the stairs, nearly taking a picture frame down with her as she tugged up her fluffy pant legs. Christmas Dinner called for onesies and some sort of disaster to happen. Unfortunately, it happened to the food she happened to be in charge of, and this failure would dangle over her head the rest of the night, jokingly of course but she was mortified nonetheless.
"You could've given me something easier to make, plus I said I was going to run upstairs just for a minute, how was I supposed to know it was going to be done right then?" Annie grumbled, a defiant cross of her arms was held in defense.
"If you weren't so distracted by brushing your lion's mane upstairs you could've heard the timer go off, and I hope you know that cranberries is easy to make, usually." The woman burst into an amused laugh, making the brunette let out a large groan to the effects of "Mooooooooom".
Her mother bumped her hip with her own and placed a stack of plates in her hands, stacking napkins and cutlery on top. Enough for four people. Excitement zipped up her spine as she quickly got to work. Her father, dressed in a bear onesie, lumbered to the kitchen at the beckoning of her mother for a taste test. "Tastes lovely as always my little duckling." A smooch invaded the girl's ears and a violent gag escaped her, definitely emphasizing it so it could be heard from the other room. The bright yellow duck onesie that her mother was dressed in threw its head back and laughed before launching an oven mitt at the girl. Annie bristled as she got smacked squarely in the face.
An annoyed snort left her nose as she folded the last napkin and straightened her posture."So help me you two behave when Lamik comes over or I will go up to my room and not come down!" She could almost hear the eyerolls her parents likely did. The tension she had felt for weeks was due to making sure everything was perfect for her friend's arrival. She hadn't seen him in a year and her heart definitely ached for familiar companionship. Through their letters he also sounded wiser, maybe getting out of the confined walls of Hogwarts helped him. She felt waves of nostalgia hit her now and then, but with her newfound job she had worked since the summer, things were lining up for her slowly but surely. The creeping feeling of not knowing what life planned for her was fading more and more and she was embracing it more, thanks to Lamik actually.
A small sigh escaped her as her parent's chatter softened while they finished up in the kitchen. She herself went to the couch and perched on in, snuggling herself into a crevice with a throw blanket. Her leg thrummed against the couch impatiently as her brain reeled with questions and worries, she left unanswered. Everything would be fine, a meal with her friend and family, something she didn't know she needed but made her heart happy at the thought. She couldn't wait.
