Opposites Attract PV

Sophie had been wandering through the library for nearly an hour. She had only seen a few people and had been much to shy to say anything to them so she just continued wandering. She traced her fingers over some books in the science fiction until she found a book that peaked her interest. She took the book and started reading it. She was about 20 pages in when she decided the book was too boring. She loves reading but few books actually capture her interest.

After another 10 minutes she comes to the non-fiction section. Hm...I wonder if they have becoming here! Probably not...considering it is a muggle book but, its worth a try! She walks over to the O category (since it is written by Michelle Obama) she traces her fingers across the books, looking at the books and not paying any attention to the things around her. She has bumped into something, or rather, someone. Hard. She looks up and sees a dark haired girl looking just as shocked as she was. "I-I am s-so so so sorry! She stands up, mortified. "I just didn't see you...a-are you okay? she whispers, staring at the floor. She was so very embarrassed and really hoped this girl would not be too mad at her.

She had seen the girl out of the corner of her eye. She debated offering a greeting, but the other seemed rather pre-occupied. That was, until the newcomer ran into her. She stumbled slightly, a bit of a shocked expression on her face. But, after that, she let out a small giggle, eyes closing and a large smile on her face.

"It's fine! I'm okay." She gave a small nod, her head tilted curiously to the side. "Are you?" Hopefully the both of them were fine. After all, while it had been rather hard, neither of them had fallen to the ground. She glanced up at the books, offering them a small shrug. She could continue her seach later, she supposed. In the meantime...

"My name's Teiki, a First Year Hufflepuff. And you?" It seemed like a good idea to get greetings out of the way. After all, it would be a little odd to just keep calling her "the girl" in Teiki's head. Her smile remained pleasant, although she glanced down to flatten the front of her uniform. She didn't really want it looking all that messy.

"Was there any particular book you were looking for? I could help, if you'd like." And, she thought, it would help her practice. After all, she wanted to search for something again. Perhaps she could start a detective agency? She laughed softly to herself at the idea.

She looked at the girl Teiki, astonished that she would would talk to her, and be so nice! "Oh yes I am fine, just surprised." She seemed nice enough, however she also seemed quite...loud. Sophie did not mind though, in fact she liked this about her.

"M-my name is Sophie. I am a Gryffindor! Although...I am not sure why. I am the opposite of courageous in fact I was hoping to Hufflepuff, or even a Ravenclaw. Yet, here I am, a Gryffindor. S-sorry if I am rambling on too much." She said looking at the run down, wooden ground, tracing the grain with her eyes.

"Well actually there is this book I used to read all the time back home. It is called Becoming by Michelle Obama. However, I do not think they have it. Considering it is a muggle book and all." She would continue looking at the books, searching for this specific book. She does not see it but does see another book that looks interesting. She grabs it and sits down to start reading it completely ignoring Teiki, forgetting she was there. She was completely lost in the book. It was just so interesting and she loved reading so this really fueled need to read.

"Oh, okay. I was worried we'd have to go up all those flights of stairs for a band-aid or something." She tried to make a joke out of it, but she realized a little too late that it might've sounded harsh. Her cheeks seemed to grow pinker, a nervous giggle, and twisting one strand of hair. You're gonna make a bad impression! Teiki's interest was just in having lots of friends- real ones.

"The hat knows a lot. I'm sure it put you there for a reason. Maybe to gain some of that courage." She smiled softly, adding in a shrug. She could understand why she was in Hufflepuff, but that felt more like a mask. Surely the hat couldn't have fallen for that? A glazed expression came upon the girl, before she smiled again, breaking out of her dream world.

"Hmm... It also sounds like a rather new book, right? I doubt this library has been updated anytime soon. But I think there are some notable muggle authors in here." She gave a shrug, scanning the shelves. But no book from Michelle Obama popped out. She glanced down, noticing that the girl had found herself engrossed in another book. That quickly? Impressive. The black-haired girl crouched down to be somewhat level with the Gryffindor.

"What's the book about? If you don't mind me interrupting." She added the last sentence somewhat hastily, a small shrug coming over her.

She looked up from her book, startled, almost forgetting she was there. "Oh s-sorry...it's this book is just really interesting. It is about like space and stuff. Did you know that space is completely quiet? Isn't that cool?" She was very talkative when it came to space, more talkative than she was any other time. "I have always wanted to go to space but, at the same time, I don't. Does that make any sense? Just so many things could go wrong. Kinda like magic. Except with magic it is helpful as much as it is scary." She was almost talking to herself at this point. She looked up at Teiki and saw her just looking at Sophie. "S-sorry if I am rambling to much. It's just...nobody has ever stuck around to listen. I'm an only child so the only people I could talk to was my parents and, no kid wants to do that. But, enough about me tell me about yourself, what do you like to do?" During the whole conversation, Sophie had been almost whispering. Quiet, but loud enough Teiki could still here her. It was a library after all, there were not very many people talking. She pushed her bangs out of her eyes and smiled at her awaiting her response.

"No, I didn't know that. That's so cool!" In truth, Teiki knew absolutely nothing about space. It was so far away and she had been so preoccupied with the world around her. No reason to look to the sky quite yet. She hadn't thought about the adventure or the dangers that would come from such a place. After all, it was so far away! So vast, too...

"Yeah, I can understand that. I've never really thought of it that way..." One finger touched her lips, eyes glazed. A thinking pose, simply staring through Sophie. She didn't really mean to, but she shook her head to snap out of it, the blush furthering, before fading as the Gryffindor began talking of her previous life. Before she began at Hogwarts. Teiki found it fascinating, something to think about. She supposed her situation was similar, but certainly different.

"I talked to my dog. He was my adventure pal." She laughed softly, ignoring the sting from the words. "But I also talked to my parents. I didn't care." She shrugged. Standards weren't something she kept often, although she did care about her appearance- but only a bit. She sat down, facing the other first year.

"Where did you grow up? I grew up in France." Her eyes were wide, interested in the response.

When Teiki mentioned having a dog, her eyes widened. She had always wanted a dog, or any pet for that matter. However her mother was allergic to dogs, and cats, and basically anything with fur. If they were to get a pet, it would need to have no hair, but who wants a hair-less animal?

"You are from France? That is so cool! I have always wanted to go there and taste the food. I used to live in an flat in London but then we moved to cute little bungalow in Heathfield. The house was in a neighborhood filled with old people though. So the only kids I saw were at my school and I was not friends with any of them."

She took out a chocolate bar and broke a piece off, placing it on her tongue. Sophie noticed Teiki looking at the delicious treat longingly and held it out, offering her some. "I'm guessing you like chocolate too?" She said chuckling to herself. She wrapped the treat back up and placed it back into her pocket. She stood up briefly to put the book away and then sat back down smiling, happy she had made a new friend.

Teiki giggled softly as the other girl's eyes widened. Seeing such an expression from some simple words surprised her, although it felt nice. Sort of. There was still a little bit of a sting, but it wasn't as significant as before.

"Hmm... Did you talk to anyone there? My grandparents always have interesting stories!" While Sophie seemed to be rather pessimistic about her previous living conditions, Teiki simply tried to look for the positive. It wasn't as though she was trying to say that the Gryffindor was wrong in any way, but the Hufflepuff seemed to have a screen against anything bad. Rose-colored glasses, one could say.

Blue eyes immediately noticed when a dessert was brought out. Teiki absolutely loved sweets- especially anything chocolate. She tried to look somewhat uninterested, but apparently Sophie could see right through it. She blushed, giving a small nod, before taking the piece offered to her. She popped it in her mouth, allowing it to melt and drip with the taste of cocoa and milk. When she had finished, she glanced back at the first year, offering a smile.

"Thanks! So, no siblings, no pets, and the other kids were mean? You did have some friends, though, right?" Teiki looked a little worried that the answer would be no.
