It was a nice day, and Misty was having a brisk jog on the edge of the lake. The cool air kept her from getting tired. She gazed out at the lake, and at how it reflected the suns gaze. It was a truly beautiful day and Misty wished she could jump in the lake, something she had resisted doing all year. how much trouble would she really get in? She had occasionally dipped her feet in when she was sure no one was around, but nothing more than that. She couldn't handle her parents concern over her if she got a detention. Her parents already worried about her friendships, even now that she had made quite a few friends, or at least acquaintances. And, though her parents hadn't said anything, Misty was sure they had their hands full dealing with her uncle. She wasn't missing him as much as she had at the start of the year. Not now that she had other relationships to balance. She continued running, trying to let her pounding steps drown out her thoughts. She wished there was an easy solution to help muggles who were negatively affected by the wizarding world.

Aside from her thoughts on her uncle, she really felt quite good about how her time at Hogwarts was going. She had felt shut in for the past few days, not having time to go on the grounds and now she intended to spend some quality time enjoying the outdoors. She had continued at her pace for a bit longer, when she saw another student heading towards her in the opposite direction. He was on the small side and had short brown hair and blue eyes. She recognized him as another first year, from Gryffindor, though she didn't remember his name. It was nice to see another person who seemed to enjoy the outdoors. As they drew closer she decided to introduce herself. "Hi there, I'm Misty. Do you spend a lot of time on the grounds?"

Jacob had woken up this morning with the intent to run. Of course, he was far too busy to do this until after school. Because of classes and such. But as soon as classes were over, he went to his dorms and changed into some shorts and a t-shirt. He had almost finished a full lap around the grounds and he was really tired. As he was running, he stopped occasionally. To look at birds, or squirrels or any other wild life he had seen. Near the lake was the most quite. As well as it was serene. So different from the rest of the school. What he would give to swim in the lake. Unfortunately, you have to have a teacher watching you and at his old school, he didn't have the best record with teachers so he had been much too wary to ask.

As he continued running, he noticed another person running. A girl with black hair. Nearing closer, he saw that she was a Slytherin. He never understood what the stories about our houses hating each other were about. He thought being in a certain house didn't mean they were exceptionally better or worse. He didn't care either way. "Hi there, I'm Misty. Do you spend a lot of time on the grounds?" I heard her say. "Oh hello! I'm Jacob and yeah, I spend every chance I get out here. It's so stuffy inside. Sure it can get kinda boring being alone out here but it's nice. Quiet. Y'know?" He told her. He sat down on the ground, tired of standing. He patted the ground next to him, offering her to sit besides him.

Closer up, the boy, Jacob, looked rather tired. She wondered how long he had been running for. Come to think of it, Misty had been running for quite a bit and certainly looked tired as well. She listened for his response, hoping he wasn't the type of Gryffindor who aggressively hated Slytherins.
"Oh hello! I'm Jacob and yeah, I spend every chance I get out here. It's so stuffy inside. Sure it can get kinda boring being alone out here but it's nice. Quiet. Y'know?" Misty smiled, she was glad Jacob seemed friendly. She nodded along with his statements. Many of the other students she met were happy to spend all their time indoors, mostly in the Library, while Misty could hardly get through her less active classes. It was great to see another person who understood the allure of the outdoors. Jacob sat down in the soft grass, and Misty wondered if he wanted to be left alone. He had said he enjoyed the quiet of the outdoors, perhaps she was spoiling it for him. But her doubts were cast aside when he patted the ground next to him. Smiling at the invitation, she joined him, facing the lake. Misty closed her eyes for a few moments, taking in the environment. When she opened her eyes, she gazed across the lake, and she saw a red squirrel dart away from the water a bit farther along the lake than they were. "The lake really is wonderful. I wish there were specific times adults would be around here so we could swim." She glanced at him and continued in a half-joking tone, "Don't tell any prefects but everyday I get closer to just jumping on in."

When she sat down right away, Jacob smiled, happy she did not think he was weird or something like that. They were looking at the lake. "The lake really is wonderful. I wish there were specific times adults would be around here so we could swim. The lake really is wonderful. I wish there were specific times adults would be around here so we could swim." She told him, looking longingly at the calm lake. Jacob looked at her amazed. "You're kidding right? About wanting to go in the lake? I have been wanting to do that since the first day I got here! Sometimes when I am out here, I walk to the edge of the lake and look around, looking to see if anyone is there but, right at the last second, before I go in, I stop myself. If someone did see me, I immensely fear what would happen. But that does not stop me from wanting to." He looked at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes as he said this. He takes his baseball from his pocket and begins tossing it into the air and catching it. He had noticed he started doing this a lot more often, usually when he was occupied in his thoughts.

Misty felt like dancing, Jacob obviously appreciated the lake as much as she did. The schools she had gone to had a very weak athletics program, and most of the other students were quite studious and saw her as weird. As a result she hadn't had any real friends before Hogwarts. Now she felt liked by many of her peers, but still hadn't found anyone who enjoyed the outdoors and being active. Jacob seemed to not only understand, but share her desire to have permission to swim. Even when she was trapped indoors her thoughts drifted to the lake. When the weather was so horrible no one was allowed outside for long, she had sat in her dorm room, where they had a small decorative pool. Misty would run her hand through the water, thinking of the past summer, where she had spent a lot of the time in her family's pool, while her uncle would read a book on a lawn chair. The pool was one of the few extravagances her mother used her considerable family fortune on. The small pool had been the deciding factor when Misty was choosing her dorm. She found the soft sounds from the movement of the water soothing as she went to sleep.
Now, She happily replied to Jacob, "That's just how I feel. To be honest, a few times, when no one was around, I would dip my feet in the lake. So, I hope you don't mind being next to a horrible rule breaker," She joked. She noticed he was tossing a ball to himself, and tried to place the design of the ball. She was sure it was a baseball, but wasn't that the name of the sport? Or was the sport named something else? Some parts of the muggle world Misty could fit in with perfectly, specifically things involving theatre and the arts, as her father had dragged her around the world to see famous works of art, including movies. The only part she enjoyed was the theatre, and began to participate in it herself. However, when it came to sports, Misty hardly knew the names, much less how they were played. "That's a baseball, right? Sorry, that must sound like a silly question to you. It's just that I was raised more in the magical side of the world and don't really know what athletics muggles do other than running, swimming, or fitness activities."

Jacob caught the ball and turn to look at Misty. "I always forget that not everybody knows about muggle sports. Yeah this is is baseball. In the sport, basically, someone throws the ball at you and then you hit it and run. It's more fun than it sounds." He stood up and offered his hand to help her get up. "Stay here." He told her as he jogged a couple feet away and tossed the ball to her. "When you throw it back, do not throw throw too hard. Since we do not have gloves, it will hurt if thrown too hard. She threw it back, not as well as Jacob had, but enough that it got to him.
They continued throwing the baseball for a while and she was getting progressively better. Eventually, Jacob's hand started hurting so after she threw it back to him again, he put it into his pocket once more and walked over to her. "You know you are pretty good at this. Of course not as good as me. But still pretty good. He teased. He looked around and noticed it was becoming pretty dark. "I reckon it is almost time for dinner." He said almost looking sad. "I guess I will see you later?" He smiled at her tilting his head to one side.
They started walking their opposite ways when he stopped suddenly. "Hey Misty wait! Here. Whenever you wanna jump into the lake without me, just play with this." He handed her his baseball. "Just make sure you don't lose it okay?" He waved a goodbye and started jogging back to the Gryffindor commons.
