Tension was rising in the match as the end neared. Now it was just a race to the finish line. A race that would determine which team had made the better calls of strategy in the long run. Avery couldn't believe she had almost made it. Broom racing she now realized was so much harder to be part of than to watch. Even with her background in Quidditch.
"Come on. Pull your act together and finish this." Avery muttered to herself. She had to get her head back into the game if she was going to finish this race. That was what mattered above all else. She had to make her team proud and do all she could to help them win.
Avery had never had much luck with unofficial or even official games. They always ended with her team falling apart around her and leaving her to finish what had been started. This game was different. In this game she and her team were going to do it. They finally had their chance to shine.
She watched as the vines tightened around her. She knew she would never make it out if she panicked, so she just let them entangle her as she planned what she had to do next. And if she didn't come to a conclusion soon, well, things would end very badly.

“Oh, bother,” she groaned. For the first time, Cecilia truly regretted sleeping through her history of magic classes. Perhaps if she had bothered to practice the spell, she would not have let Rosaline down. “Sorry about that,” Cecilia apologised sheepishly and ran a hand through her auburn locks. Leaving Rosaline like that did not feel right, but helping her seemed like a distant prospect as they approached the next obstacle.
Whether it was due to distraction or a lack of skill, Cecilia’s flight was halted when she became entangled in thick, creeping vines. Whilst Cecilia would normally welcome nature’s embrace with open arms, she knew that this was no time to lounge around. With a quick glance at her surroundings, it became apparent that Rosaline and Avery were in the same predicament. Any more delays would only allow their opponents to slip past the finish line. She had to act fast.

Rosaline kept her mouth shut because she was afraid that she would let some of the poop invade more of her face. As she flew forward, the excrement made the broom slippery, and it was harder to control. Let alone her vision, Rosaline knew there would be vines everywhere, but she couldn’t pinpoint where they were, and it was more difficult to avoid them. It was not a surprise to her that she would end up stuck in them. Rosaline signed. The day really wasn’t her day at all.

It was nearing the end of the race, and yet, the Callendula Rams presented a united front against those pesky vines. Though she was a little further behind, Maisie managed to help her teammates with a diffindo, severing much of the tangles holding them in. With each other's help, Cecilia and Rosaline easily broke free, Avery right behind them. "Teamwork! Yes, that is what I like to see!" Matilde beamed.

Some of the racers that before had decided not to move continued to do so. Matilde sighed. Pacing yourself was as skill, and one that broom racing always required. Matilde had been right when she premised that the race was almost over. "If Verity can get past this waterfall, she is there. Does she have enough strength left to avoid falling into its watery depths?" Matilde, and the small audience in the stands watched with baited breath as the young Hufflepuff entered the falls. And lo and behold- she made it! The girl soared through the falls, past the last section of the track and ending the race. "Verity Engels crosses the finish line! Congratulations team 1, you have won! Grand job, everyone, thank you so much for racing with me today. This will certainly be a race to remember!"
