Piper walked out into the courtyard, the cold wind blowing made her cold. She pulled her Slytherin scarf closer to her neck, just to be prepared for another big gust, and admired the school courtyard.

It was peaceful, as the school halls were very busy and loud. Piper admired the fountain, which was magnificent and beautiful. She took a closer look, her hand brushing the rim of the stone, and felt another cold gust of wind sweep through her.

She shivered...it was cold, but the weather was worth it for a bit of peace and quiet. It was very nice, to just relax without classmates scattering, housemates yelling, and teacheres scolding. Don't get her wrong, she loved learning knowledge, she had a drive for it to learn as much as she can and absorb the ancient wisdom that coursed through Hogwarts, but she appreciated quiet every now and then.

Usually, people came into the courtyard with friends, but Piper didn't have many. She'd just met a few students, and thought that possibly they could be friends, but she wasn't sure.

She didn't have many friends because many people thought of her as shy, and too smart for her own good. She thought that the knowledge of the universe, and how magic isn't light and dark, but white, and neither good or bad, but equal, was fascinating. Of course, many dissagree and think there is such thing as light, dark, good and bad, but Piper disagreed.

Good never is better then bad, because that is just a statement told by those who were good, not bad. Good builds off of bad, for if there wasn't good there wouldn't be bad, and if there wasn't bad there wouldn't be good. They are equals, not oppisites.

People team up to one side, and think the only way to support good or bad is by fighting one or the other to represent it. Piper thought that was very foolish and wrong. They're just giving a positive reaction, because they're giving each other something to fight for, when all they need to do is realize, we're all here, connected to the universe to a deeper level, and there's nothing anyone could ever do to change that.

Not even death. Death is life, life is death. Yet again, without life, there isn't death, and without death, there's isn't life. The more you fight for light and dark, good and bad, there's only going to resolve in life or death. Life and death are two different paths, on the same road. If you live you'll die, and if you die, you'll live in another state of wisdom other people can't imagine.

Another gust of wind interrupted Piper's train of thoughts. Right. She wasn't here to worry and think, she was here to rest and relax, and maybe, just maybe, form a friendship that could, maybe, have a strong bond.

My name is Piper Clarkwood. I am a Ravenclaw, always will be. I was placed in Slytherin because my brother, fiddled with the buttons. I am very intelligent and pretty creative. You'd find me sitting at Ravenclaw tower with my new friend, Julia Evans.

Fresh Air....and Maybe A New/First Friend?
Evaline strutted to the courtyard, her Slytherin scarf tied fashionably around her neck, and her uniform on point ( and maybe the skirt was a few inches shorter then strictly proper...) Her tie was loose, and her shoelaces were untied.
She was fidgeting with something called, " heed-foones", something her muggle-born friend had given her. It apparently played music and you could take it wherever! She kept on putting the little white parts in her ear, like her friend had told her, but it wasn't working. She groaned. and yanked it out of her ears.Ugh! Now her hair was mused. Not like it mattered. Then she spotted a girl, with long hair and blue eyes, Slytherin, near the fountain. She seemed to be very deep in her thoughts.
Evaline walked up to her, and racked her mind to remember anything about the girl. She had saw her, in the common room a couple of times. Her name was, Pepper? Pip?
She didn't remember. But, she did remember that she was muggle-born.
She glanced down at the headphones in her hand. Maybe she could help!
The girl hadn't noticed her yet. Hmph Maybe she would soon.
" Er- Hello!" Evaline said.

Jada strolled leisurely across the courtyard. She’d gotten bored inside, nothing particularly exciting was happening and studying, though always useful, was incredibly boring.

She breathed in the crisp winter air, zipping up her winter jacket. She wasn’t wearing her uniform, she’d changed out of the emerald green ensemble and cloak as soon as class had ended. She had a strong aversion for wearing uniforms when it wasn’t necessary and had consequently decided on a pair of jeans and a pink, long sleeved top instead. Not that anyone would see it under the heaps of clothes she’d piled on top. She wasn’t really a fan of cold weather.

She watched other students hurry past, some in small groups, huddled together for warmth, others not minding the cold reading or writing. The sun shone onto her face and she squinted her eyes, the sun having momentarily blinded her.

Thunk! She collided with something, or rather someone, in front of her. I am so sorry! she exclaimed apologetically, I wasn’t looking where I was going, are you alright?

She didn’t recognise the girl but she was in Slytherin uniform and seemed to be around her age. I don’t think we’ve met before. I’m Jada, and you are…

Evaline looked over at the girl, Jada.
She was pretty, her green eyes only a few shades lighter than Evaline’s own. And her hair was nice too.

“Oh. Hello, Jada. My name is Evaline Valerie Hawthorne,” she said, her eyes widening at her own name, savoring the weight of it. She always had.

Jada looked like a good girl, the kind who finished her homework early and never forgot to tie her shoes properly. Superlative.

Evaline smirked to herself.
She could fix that.

After all, there were already far too many pricks around here, weren’t there?
She hated the ones who walked around with their noses in the air, looking for someone to call out. Ugh. Evaline was always a trouble-maker. She never really hid it either. She lived and thrived in amazing, superlative chaos, and she despised anyone who took her out of it, even for a moment. She really couldn't think in peace and quiet. The soundless sound of it might as well have burned her ears. She sighed internally. Her brain was a haphazard mess, but she always knew her way around.

“So,” Evaline said casually, slinging an arm around Jada’s shoulders, “care for a walk ’round town?”
She giggled at her own wittiness.

Fresh Air....and Maybe A New/First Friend?
The strange girl introduced herself as Evaline Valerie Hawthorne. The full name seemed like a bit much, but Evaline seemed like a bit much as a person in general. She said it with gusto, seeming to savor every word of it, like it was a prestigious title or something.

Her deep green eyes scanned her, as if taking in every minuscule detail. She seemed like the type of person to ditch class for an adventure or simply for some free time, never hand in homework on time and still be top of the class and ace all her exams. She carried herself with a very care-free manner. It matched her style, it seemed messy at first but she made it work.

Jada laughed uncertainly, surprised by her unexpected friendliness. Sure she replied. She was still slightly dazed from the earlier impact. Where do you want to go? She admired Evaline’s self confidence, who else would go on a walk with someone they’d just met?

I’ll call you Evie, it’s shorter and less of a mouthful. there was no way in hell she was going to say her full name every time they talked to each other. Perhaps she could come up with a better nickname one they got to know each other better.

Evalines gasped in mock offense when Jada shortened her name, one perfectly groomed eyebrow lifting.
" Evie??" She repeated, scandalized. Then she burst into a light laugh, eyes glittering. “Wow. Renaming me within the first minute. That’s either incredibly brave or deeply foolish. I adore it.”
She tilted her head, considering. “Very well. Evie it is. But only you, and a few others get that privilege. Everyone else must suffer through the full three names.”
She adjusted her scarf with practiced elegance, ( the scarf was ripped in about 4 different places, and she hadn't even bothered to patch it up) and glanced over at Jada, eyes bright with interest.
At the question of where to go, Evaline paused, tapping her chin like she was selecting a destiny.
“Hmm… inside is too obvious. Greenhouses smell suspicious. Tower stairs are exhausting…” She brightened suddenly and looped her arm through Jada’s without warning. “Lake. Final answer. The vibes are impeccable.”
Then, Evaline spotted something.
“Oh.”

Her gaze dropped slowly to the ground.

Between their feet, something small, black, and extremely suspicious was sniffing her shoe.

Evaline inhaled sharply. “No. Absolutely not. I know you.”

The creature looked up.

It was a niffler.

Its beady little eyes locked directly onto the faint golden glint peeking from Evaline’s pocket.

“Jada,” she said very calmly, not moving an inch, “I need you to remain calm and not scream when this feral criminal tries to rob me.”

The niffler lunged.

Evaline shrieked, hopping backward as it latched onto her skirt. “LET GO OF THE FABRIC, YOU UNGRATEFUL MOLE RAT—”

She flicked her wrist, muttering a sharp charm. The ground tilted violently, and the niffler went sliding across the stones, clutching nothing but air.

Evaline smoothed her hair, breathing hard, then smiled sweetly at Jada.
"Anyhow...where was I?"

Well, then I am honoured. she replied, smiling slightly. At least she wouldn’t have to suffer through all three names. And the lake seems like a good idea, especially on an almost beautiful day like this. Everything save for the frosty air was amazing, a small breeze, the sunshine…

Oh… my… god… she breathed, once again in shock (from watching the attack this time). The muffler had launched itself onto Evie, it’s claws reaching out, latching onto her skirt in an attempt to reach her glittering jewellery. She’d watched as Evaline frantically started batting the creature away, hitting it, kicking it, anything to get it away until she finally sent it skidding across the courtyard’s hard floor.

Today didn’t seem to be going all too well for her, first the collision, now the attack. She wondered if anything else was to happen.

Holy crap, are you okay? she seemed fine and continued as if nothing had ever happened. What a strange girl she thought. Reaching out her arm to link theirs together, she said Off to the lake then! But we may want to grab some snacks from the kitchens first, you know, for a picnic or just a snack along the way. she, for one, was starving and she doubted Evaline would refuse food either. Besides, the house elves always seemed more than happy to give away food or treats they had prepared.

" I am perfectly fine, thank you, Jada dear!" Evaline said, fixing her headband in her hair. It was also pink lace and satin, like every article of clothing she owned. " Nothing to fuss over."
" The little rascals just like my shiny gold diary." She said, whipping it out from her pocket. It was slightly more rose gold, but pretty, with a moon and sun intertwining on it. On the bottom, it said her name in pretty lettering.
Evaline linked her arm with Jada’s, letting herself relax into the easy camaraderie. "Snacks? Absolutely. I don’t know how anyone can think clearly without them. House elves always have the best things hidden away. I’d die without their tarts." She laughed softly, a little more quiet than her usual roar of a giggle.
" Wait," Evaline said suddenly, holding out her hand to stop Jada. She pulled out a pretty ( also black and pink lace) handheld parasol from her pocket, and put it over them. " It's far too sunny today. Hate this weather. Cold and sunny? Pick a side." She muttered.
" Isn't it pretty?" Evaline asked, smiling as she twirled the sun-shade like a little Victorian lady. " An muggle-born friend of mine had bought it for me." She giggled, her eyes taking on a far-away look before snapping back.

Harry watched the girls from a distance. He wondered if he should approach and talk, but hesitated.
He thought it would be inconvenient to interrupt the conversation of three girls from a different house. He didn't care who their friends were, their gender, their age, or their house, but Harry knew one thing: he didn't want to be inconvenient.
For a moment of clarity, he was certain of his attitude, but like a good Ravenclaw, he couldn't help but reflect.
Is this really the right choice?
he wondered for a moment, analyzing his socialization strategy.
On the other hand, they were classmates, and he would have to fit in with them anyway. So, after all... why not?
Harry approached, first listening to some of the conversation so as not to approach too abruptly, and then he approached.

Hi! Excuse me for intruding, but I couldn't help but notice you mentioned going to the kitchen? Would you mind if I joined you? I'd really like to learn the way there!

The boy said with a friendly smile.

By the way, that other girl over there, you guys weren't able to talk to her?

He was referring to a figure that was already far away.

It sure is. I must say your friends have quite some taste she commented, everything she seemed to own was black and pink. At this point she wouldn’t be surprised if her whole dorm was black and pink. In fact, she could see it quite vividly in her mind.

The parasol she’d pulled out offered comforting shade from the sunlight without blocking it out completely. It looked like an umbrella, but from way way back. Perhaps from the Victorian era. It suited her well. Tell me more about this muggle friend of yours. What were they like?

She was curious to know more about Evie. How and where she picked up those strange mannerisms. Perhaps more about her parents, why she lived with her brother instead of them.

A boy walked up to the two of them, asking if he could join them. She frowned, another eavesdropper… was it possible to have any privacy here? before plastering on a big smile, We were actually planning on just going the two of us, weren’t we, Evie? she glanced over the boy, taking note of his height and almost doll like features. She giggled before adding But I’m sure the three of us will be just fine together.
