Her solitude, place of peace, a place to escape life and go to a destination perfect, just the way she wants it. The library. It was Julia's favorite place, in the whole school. Reading to her was heaven, it was something she could make friends with, in real life, with imaginary characters, and even with books. She was going there now, after an extremely exhausting day, to wind off. Originally her plan had been to do her homework here, but after how draining the day had been, homework was anything but top of her list. Julia felt a little ashamed, as what she was doing, neglecting her homework, was not a classic Ravenclaw move, "It is completely okay to take a break sometimes, besides reading is something a Rvenclaw would apprreciate, so it doesn't matter", She scolded herself, and continued walking.
————————————————————————————————————————
She finally got to the library after, almost tripping, dropping her book, and navigating through 2 staircases who kept moving. As soon as Julia got there she curled up on her favorite blue armchair, and started reading. She was currently read Hogwarts: A History, and was on a chapter that was about the Hogwarts Express. She had only started the book yesterday, thinking she was supposed to be reading it for History of magic, but her love for reading got her halfway through it before she could even realize it was not the book she was supposed to be reading. Despite all that, Julia continued reading it because it was simply too interesting.
————————————————————————————————————————
Julia kept reading and before she knew it, a whole hour had passed! She looked up and saw a few students she didn't know but along with them she saw another girl, who had been kind to her a few times before, "I think her name is Avery, Avery Gray". Julia decided to go and talk to her, so she closed her book, and put it back into her bag. Avery had hazel eyes and brown hair. she was a little taller than Julia, her brown hair, which had a few hints of blonde, was open and cascaded to just below her shoulder. She was pretty, and looked kind, and charismatic, but Julia was quite sure she could be very determined when she wanted to. She walked up to Avery, and said "Hi! I'm Julia, Julia Evans. You are Avery? Avery Gray?"

Avery had been spending much more time in the library as of late. Something about the place brought peace to Avery as she was surrounded by books. Maybe it was because in a library you could be swept away and dive deeply into stories that aren't your own. Fairy tales where everything ends with a happy ending. Mysterious mysteries where you're constantly left guessing who did it. Thrilling adventures where every twist and turn led to a new obstacle to overcome. All represented a different world free from the toil and hardship of real life. A place you could disappear into and never look back at the old world filled with the pain and hardship of every day life.

Avery stepped foot into the library. Brushing her hair out of her eyes as she walked alongside the rows and rows of books that stood before her. She stopped only for a moment. Sighing deeply as she admired the room. So many books stood before her. So many stories and adventures to dive into. Now, the question stood plainly. Where to start? What book section was calling her name?

She settled on a section she knew held good books within. Books that kept her captivated and reading into the early hours of the morning. She knew she shouldn't stay up reading all night, but she couldn't help it. When she got started on a book that held her interest, well, she just couldn't stop reading until she had read every last page of it.

Avery ran her fingers along the old book spines like she always did. The feeling of rough, leathery books beneath her fingertips soothed her constantly working mind. It made her feel calm. Carefree. Like she could escape away into a more perfect world where she was a simple girl instead of the complex pure blooded girl with complex family issues that never seemed to work out correctly. If anything? The grave her family was digging grew deeper every argument never made up and every reminder that her family was broken. That she was broken.

Avery finally chose a book. Though she had never read it before or even heard of the author, she picked it up anyway. Willing to try it out in case she ended up falling in love with the book. A likely thing to happen as she the majority of the time enjoyed books. Though there were a few instances where she didn't. She guessed it was probably because some books weren't as interesting or just didn't have much to happen compared to others. Or maybe it was just because of what genres she liked and didn't like.

Avery then walked over to an empty table and sat down. Placing the book on the table and opening to the first page. She gently ran her finger against the old parchment. Relishing in the feeling. Then she began to read.

Avery hadn't even noticed another girl approaching her. She had been so engrossed in her book that she had blocked out the rest of the world around her anyway. She startled and closed her book when a girl said her name.

The girl was younger than Avery. A first year by the look of her. She was also a Ravenclaw. That wasn't what surprised Avery. Ravenclaws were known for reading books and learning. What surprised Avery was that the girl knew her name. How had she become so popular? What had she done that was so amazing? Avery herself didn't know the answer to that question. To her, she was a normal and boring girl that never did anything special besides play Quidditch and even that wasn't uncommon.

"Yes, I'm Avery. It's very nice to meet you, though was interests me is how do you know my name? I don't believe we've ever met before besides passing each other in the hallways." Avery smiled. She wanted the girl to know that she was genuinely curious and not just looking for trouble like some people did. Avery wasn't like that. She never would be like that.

As Avery waited for the girl to respond, she pushed the book she had been reading off to the side and motioned for the girl to sit down. If they were going to have a chat, Avery wanted to make sure the girl felt welcome and like she belonged. That alone was all that mattered to Avery.

At first Julia thought she'd gotten the name wrong, but then Avery smiled, and said"Yes, I'm Avery. It's very nice to meet you, though was interests me is how do you know my name? I don't believe we've ever met before besides passing each other in the hallways.". That one sentence, and Julia instantly knew she was going to like Avery. Unlike some people, Avery actually sounded genuine, actually sounded as though she wanted to make Julia feel welcome, and get to know her. But that was only one thing that shocked Julia, the other thing was simply her question. She sounded actually curious to know why Julia knew Avery, and those 2 things made Julia respect her as a (hopefully) friend, and as a person.
————————————————————————————————————————
She kept thinking about this, realizing, after a second, that Avery was waiting for her to answer. If Julia was honest, she had almost laughed when the question was asked. The answer was too obvious, too simple, and the fact that Avery was asking that just showed how humble and modest she was. Julia decided she was taking too long to respond, so she simply said "You are a seeker on the Gryffindor quidditch team, you just are naturally kind to. other, and you are anything but selfish, moody, and stubborn. I think you would be surprised at how many people know you". She said this all very fast, but she couldn't say it wasn't the truth. She waited for Avery to respond, wondering what the girl would think.

Avery blinked her eyes in surpise. Wow. She had no idea how popular she had become. Yes, she had met a few different people she hadn't met before. Especially with the first years, but being popular and well-known? That was new to her and Avery wasn't sure what to think about it. Avery was always the girl that stayed in the shadows when she was younger. She had always been friendly. There was no question there, but it was the manner of how she handled her friendliness that had changed.

She felt like she belonged at Hogwarts. It was a place where she could finally be herself and express her personality without the worry of scorn from the pure blood community. It shocked her even though she herself was of pure blood how many people despised others that weren't as 'pure'. It was an awful way to discriminate against people. Avery believed firmly that it wasn't right to discriminate, but who was she? Discrimination had been going on for so long and had become a part of society that it would be nearly impossible to change it.

Though nearly impossible wasn't the same as impossible. Though it would be hard, there was still a small chance at change. Even if it wasn't much, it would still be change. "Wow. Thank you. I'm honored." Avery commented. Her shock still left her tongue-tied.

"Anyways, what brings you to the library on this fine November day?" Avery asked with a smile.

Avery was clearly surprised by Julia's answer, "Wow. Thank you. I'm honored." she said, and Julia smiled slightly at how much the girl was shocked. Julia wondered if she would ever be popular or recognized. Of course, it didn't matter, she didn't care about it, but Julia couldn't help but wonder. She often felt that because of her small or thin body, and happy nature, people didn't take her seriously, and with all that was going on back home, she could use some friends. Recently, she had gotten an owl from her sister Orla, about something which could tear Julia and her family apart. She snapped back to the present, and Avery smiled, and asked, "Anyways, what brings you to the library on this fine November day?". That was a difficult question, honestly. Julia wasn't quite sure how to answer. She thought for a moment, then said "I was originally going to come here to do some homework, but recently some... stuff has been going on back home, and I wanted some peace and quiet. So the homework plan was scrapped, and I came to read instead.", she smiled faintly and continued " Although that was the intention, I think making a new friend proves to be much more exciting. What about you? What brings you here?"

Avery listened as the girl spoke though her mind was still whirling about what the girl had said before. She knew she had met many of the underclassmen and even some older students, but she hadn't known how far her reputation had actually spread. She wasn't even popular. She didn't want to be popular. Being popular meant living up to someone that wasn't yourself just to keep your reputation. That was exhausting work.

Then Avery heard Julia mention that she had family problems and the lioness stiffened slightly. She knew what it was like to deal with family issues and all she wanted to do in those moments was crawl into a hole and disappear. It all became too much when strife in her family came about, and there had been a lot of it as of late.

"I'm sorry about your family problems. I know it's none of my business, but I sincerely hope and pray that they don't last a long time. Dealing with family. . . well, it's exhausting work." That was all Avery could say. She didn't want to burden the younger girl with her family's issues. It was too much for one person to process.

"Oh, well, I guess you could say I came here to escape as well. There's something about the library that calms me." Avery sighed.

It was true. There was just something that being surrounded by books did to her. They made her feel. . . calm. Like she was in the eye of a storm as the rest of the storm surged around her. Maybe that was why she had always loved libraries. They pulled her away from her tough life and brought her to a place where she could be free.

After Julia was finished, Avery said, "I'm sorry about your family problems. I know it's none of my business, but I sincerely hope and pray that they don't last a long time. Dealing with family. . . well, it's exhausting work." The girl sighed, and by the way she spoke, Julia couldn't help but wonder if Avery faced problems with her family too. She'd always seemed kind, confident, and happy, but then again people were rarely what they seemed to be, and it looked like Julia was, unfortunately, proof of that. Happy, friendly, lively on the outside, and self-conscious, broken, lonely on the outside. Sure, a few traits were there inside and outside but just barely some. Julia listened as Avery continued speaking, "Oh, well, I guess you could say I came here to escape as well. There's something about the library that calms me." Julia smiled, turned out the 2 girls were more alike than she thought. The library was her escape route too. Whenever something happened she could come here, calm down by reading or doing some work, and then go face the annoying problems life kept testing her with. If only the obstacles were more consistent. The fact that sometimes a problem could be too much homework, and sometimes it could be a broken family did not help. "Why am I thinking about this?" Julia thought. She told herself to snap out of it. "I'm sure the rift is temporary. Probably one of their other small arguments", She reasoned optimistically, even though she knew it wasn't true. It was easier to pretend it was okay than to accept what was happening. "Back to the bad thoughts again", she sighed inwardly. She was, hopefully, making a friend, it wasn't the right time to think about this stuff. She could ponder it back in the dorm when she was alone and supposedly 'sleeping'. Then, out loud, she said, "I suppose we're quite alike", smiling she continued, "I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was wondering, which book were you reading? It looked quite nice". It sounded a little cringey, but she was truly curious. Since books and reading was that one thing that bound most people together, Julia was alway curious about what someone was reading. Sometimes she found their book interesting, and sometimes not, but today, Julia had a gut feeling that Avery was reading something really nice.

There was a silence for a moment after Avery spoke that the library calmed her. Though it was true, the words ran deep. Deeper than Julia probably realized. It was a confession. A confession that she was slowly falling apart on the inside even though it looked as if nothing was wrong with her on the outside. That was how she had always done things. It was something she had learned to do well as the daughter of a prestigious pure blood family.

Rarely was there ever a time that she let her emotions get the better of her. Only when she was around someone that understood. And Julia understood. At least, Avery thought she did. The way the younger girl held herself and spoke reminded Avery of what it felt like to be alone. Or, at least feel alone. She was usually surrounded by people, but sometimes it felt like she was the only person in the room.

Avery nodded when Julia commented that they were quite alike. They really were if you thought about it. Family was tough. Especially when it came down to choosing one family member over the other. Those decisions shaped people, but now always for the better.

"Oh. The book. I completely forgot about it. I honestly just picked it off the shelf. Here. Read the back if you'd like." Avery smiled. The smile finally reached her eyes.
