In dire need of supplies
20.08.25
What a day! Max had traveled with his mother that morning trying tocomplete the list of supplies he needed before starting school. The earlystart only contributed to amp up the excitement of the day. The crowded streets and shopping at secondhand shops brought him down a peg, but he was still shaking with joy. True, there were a lot of people. More than he had seen at once in over a year. It was a good thing his dag and twin sister stayed behind. They would have hated it. They all were uncomfortable with it, truly, but Max saw the opportunities too. If he jumped up on a bench somewhere and yelled a couple of jokes he would bet so many would laugh. That was ways better than the polite chuckle his parents offered.
The secondhand store wasn’t so bad either once te took a proper look. So many options! Thankfully his mother stuck to him like glue and helped sort through the options to find the best ones. Two of the robes were a bit tattered and big, but the third was perfect! After discussing how important it was that the clothes fit for more than just a month or so, but thankfully there were no better options left.
The books were mostly pristine. A bit worn maybe, but the pages fully readable. The only exception was potions. A dark liquid was spilled over several of the pages, making the words almost impossible to read. But it was only about twenty pages or so, and he would for sure find a friend whom he could borrow their book to copy.
Supplies for herbology he already had so they could easily skip that part, along with most of the potion ingredients. Finding a cauldron turned out to be a struggle. All of them seemed to be cracked, and some smelled like death or something worse. After considering for a good half an hour they bought one that had a minor crack towards the brim. It didn’t smell particularly nice, but with assurances that it would go away with use, the transaction was complete.
Back in the busy streets they made their way towards the Leaky Cauldron, Max stopped dead in his tracks when they passed the Magical Menagerie. «Mom! Can’t we go in? We don’t have to buy one, we can just look!» Max had been on his mothers back constantly over getting a pet for years now, and had been shut down for just as long. His mother stopped hesitantly and looked back at him, exhaustion written clear on her face. «No, Max. How many times do I have to tell you? If you want a pet so badly find one in the woods and adopt it» With that she turned on her heel and marched on. Max, still not satisfied but not wanting to get left behind, followed begrudgingly.
There were a lot of people, and that was tiering. They had spent the best part of the day here, and he was exausted. Eyes jumping around, mind spinning. But it was exciting, wasn’t it? Stepping up to a fireplace, and in a cloud of floo powder, they were gone.
