Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
Leanne followed the crowd of first years up the steps to the great hall, between two house tables that seem to hold a thousand, and right in front of the sorting hat. Being magically-raised, she was used to seeing magic all around her, but this on the other hand... was simply amazing. Numerous candles were floating in midair (what charms are used to suspend them?), portraits of all designs and shapes waved back at her, and she felt like the protagonist in one of her books, ready to begin an amazing adventure.
She stopped to admire the frail-looking hat, wondering how it had survived for so many years. "It was made in the times of the Founders" she mumbled under her breath, reciting from Hogwarts, A History. "Isn't that like thousands, no hundreds of centuries ago. Shouldn't it have malfunctioned by now?"
Announcements were made, petrified students were sorted, but she didn't pay attention. She was more mesmerised by the enchanted ceiling, which showed a sky-full of stars glistening beneath a backdrop of cotton-like clouds. Not forgetting the amazing variety of food on the table and...
"Leanne, Chua!" The headmaster finally called, and she bounced her way to the hat, jamming the hat on her head. Weird. That was one word to describe the feeling at that moment. The hat was so light, and yet so huge, its flaps covering her eyes, obscuring the many eyes that was staring at her previously. There was this awkward silence at first, as if the Hat didn't register that a new student was there; Leanne gently closed her eyes, slightly scared that she would never be sorted.
A small soothing voice could be heard at last. "Well, I can sense your deepest desires of your heart; and from the beginning, you have longed to be with them, isn't that right?" Leanne's eyes strayed towards the Ravenclaw table, where she could imagine herself being surrounded by shades of blue and bronze, being accepted and welcomed to the society of bookworms. She could have gone on dreaming about various futures, if she hadn't been interrupted by the Sorting Hat.
"But I ask you, my dear child, are you suited to be there?" Of course, she thought back, thinking of all her qualities. Yes, she was a avid bookworm, mostly intelligent, quite creative...The hat gave an equivalent of a mental sigh, clarifying: "Perhaps you'll like to consider Slytherin instead? No, no, no! She looked down, afraid of answering back, counting the number of seconds since she has been called up.
273, 274, 275... "You have no qualms about settling the bigotry over there, with enough confidence and conviction, you might be capable of rallying the Slytherins with your call for a better world to live in." 276, 277, 278, 279, 280.... "Please, please not Slytherin." she thought repeatedly.
Finally, the Hat had come to a decision. "Would you be willing to change your decision, Ms Leanne Chua? No? Well, if you’re so sure, RAVENCLAW it is! “ The last word was shouted to the hall, and she gave a long-held sigh. Taking off the hat, she made her way to her new house table, where students of all ages were congratulating her.
"That was a close call, for sure."

Thea walked into the biggest room she had ever seen. She’s stopped short and then shook her self and slowly walked with the group. She gaped at the foods around her and the beautiful paintings (it surprised her to see they were moving). She had to duck to get out of a flying ghost and to stop staring she had to pull her eyes away. She spotted Leanne and tried to get to her. She wanted so badly to say sorry for the embarrassing moment on the train. She was being pushed away from her and she finally just went with the crowd. She slowly watched as name after name was called but none of them were her name. She began to worry and wondered if she was not a witch. Finally Her name was called “Thea B. Everdeen” She hurriedly moved to sit on the small stool and put the tattered hat on her head.
“Hmm, interesting. You have the cunningness of Slytherin but also the kind and brave heart of both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Yes very interesting.” Thea’s stomach twisted and untwisted in to knots. She then turned her thoughts to the words Roy had said to her “ Just think of the quality’s you possess and you’ll be fine.” So she thought about her qualities. She was “kind, shy at times but ready to take on any task, non hesitant while at the same time she thought things through.” The hat brought her back to the real world. “Oh my you possess so many quality’s. Hmm, your kind at heart but also ready to stand up for what is right.” She thought one last quality that she hadn’t thought about, “she was strong mentally. She had been through heck in her early years and it had just gotten worse when she lost Gabe. But she had survived and actually those moments had made her stronger.”
The hat chuckled and slowly almost timidly whispered “you could be great in any house. But you truly find your feelings when you need to even though you can still be stubborn those feelings even the small ones effect you and your actions. But you have learned to master them, so I know just the house that will help you through all your trials.”
Then he yelled out in Thea’s ear “HUFFLEPUFF!!!”
She was stunned and quickly thanked the hat in her mind, but he heard it and whispered one last sentence “Your welcome Thea.” She strode proudly over to the Hufflepuff table and was greeted with whistles and calls to come sit down. She finally decided to sit at the end of the long table to thank Gabe for being there for her. She ate gratefully and slept even better.

1st September
-Nawelle Haidan!
The name echoed in the great hall.
She feared this moment, she was going to have to come forward, all eyes were going to turn to her. But she had to move on now.
She saw herself as from the outside, a frightened young girl with long black hair walking slowly towards the Sorting Hat.
But the girl was not afraid of the Sorting Hat decision, she did not care about the house in which she was going to be distributed. Her entire witch family had been in Ravenclaw before her. But the distribution system in the houses had always displeased Nawelle, as soon as she had heard of it. She was convinced that we could not "put" people in different "boxes" depending on whether they were nice, cunning, brave or intelligent.
When the Sorting Hat was on her head, she heard his voice speak to him, but she listened very little to what he said. He spoke of intelligence and greatness of mind. She was paralyzed by the hundreds of looks on her in the great hall. She did not want to be looked at and prayed that the Sorting Hat would hurry and that she could finally stop being the center of attention.
After a few seconds which seemed to last an eternity, the Sorting Hat announced with a loud and clear voice:
- Ravenclaw!
"No surprise" thought Nawelle. She hurried to go to the Ravenclaw table and briefly thanked those who welcomed her.
"Stupid hat," thought the girl again, "he doesn't know anything about me ..."

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
Bex walked into the massive room and tried to burn every detail into her memory. She heard some gasps and saw some of the other kids pointing to the ceiling. She looked up and was surprised that the night sky was perfectly reflected, but it couldn't have been the actual sky since the castle was quite a few stories high. She kept following the herd of people walking towards the front of the room.
It was intimidating knowing that she would have to do something to get sorted with so many people in the room. Each table had more people than any class she had attended in her other schools. She wandered what they would have to do to be sorted into a "house". At the front of the room she was confused to see just a stool with an old hat sitting on it.
There was a lot of people talking so the room was very noisy, which made her even more nervous. Finally the man sitting in the middle of the teachers stood up and started talking. She couldn't pay attention to what he was saying because she started getting nauseous. The kid next to her must have seen her face, because he stepped away from her.
Finally the man was done talking, and the hat started to sing? Bex knew she was new to magic, but did magical clothing usually sing? The sheer outrageousness of this calmed her nerves and she tried to figure out how the hat was singing. The hat stopped singing and a teacher picked up the hat and called the first name.
The kid walked to the stool and sat down. After a few seconds of silence the hat shouted "Ravenclaw" and the table with the Ravenclaw's banner above it applauded loudly. A few other names were called, each table seemingly trying to outdo the others with how loud they could applaud, and then Bex's name was called.
She walked to the front, and her nerves rushed back. She sat down shakily, and the hat was placed on her head. "There's so much anger in you." Bex jumped because there was suddenly a voice in her head. "No need to be alarmed, it's just me the Sorting Hat. Like I said, there's so much anger when you first look inside, but I see crippling loneliness too. Moving has been hard, but it's been years child. You need to see the bright side so you can be happy, being angry is just keeping you from happiness, child. I see a thirst for new adventures and friends, and an unspeakable amount of courage. The anger just gets in the way of you showing your good side to people. Let's put you in..."
Gryffindor! The hat stopped speaking only to Bex for the announcement of her new house. The Gryffindors seemed to be trying to break a record for how loudly they could applaud. Bex walked over to the table and sat down in an open seat. Her new housemates congratulated her, and tried to welcome her. However, she could not put the hat's words out of her mind to enjoy how happy the house seemed to be over obtaining a new member. She wanted to be liked in this new school, but the hat made it seem like she wasn't making liking her very easy.

Eloise is a little stressed before she enters in the room. She is alone and she sees people in groups of two or three. She knows making new friends is difficult for her but she is always a little sad when she sees people who have social skills.
When she enters in the great hall, she wants to touch everything. Yes, Oskar have already spoken about this ceiling, this long tables. But the Great Hall is more beautiful than all things Oskar tells. She jumps to show her joy. After 15 seconds to jump, Eloise thinks it is maybe not the good place for that. But she is so happy ! She wants to discover everything in the castle.
The headmaster of Hogwarts begins to speak. Eloise look at him. He is tall. She focus on his eyes : dark. Eloise has never meet people with dark eyes. It was always brown. So, it is very original ! Eloise wants to discover all, all the time. She promise to herself to make searchs about dark eyes.
The sorting hat comes out and Eloise is very surprising by its voice. She listens all she cans but she returns quickly in the history of dark eyes and why they are unusual.
Eloise was too busy to look for recessive allele in her memory, she doesn't understand quickly when a voice calls her. She takes one minute to think what she have to do and she realizes people look at her. She hurrys to join the sorting hat. And, when it is in her head, she realizes she hasn't had time to think about her House. It stressed the young girl.
"Don't worry, I will not kill you !"say the hat.
"Do you can kill me ?" Eloise says, with anxiety.
"Oh, no ! Hum… I see intelligence, creativity, but also honnestly and loyalty… You will join Hufflepuff !"
"Thanks, Sorting Hat !"
Eloise smiles but, one second later, she thinks her mother will feel a big deception. It makes the new Hufflepuff student sad : she does'nt want that for her mother. But she knows she cans not go to Griffindor. And Houses are definitive.
Hufflepuff. It will be her house for the seven next years… She hopes she will have the time to make one or two friends in seven years.

This was everything that Violet had dreamt about since she was little. Listening to her brother talk about the energy in the Great Hall but being here was even better. The roar of the older students talking amongst themselves as they were already at their given tables, the first years waiting outside to brought in weren’t much quieter. Some had already managed to strike up conversation with each other but Violet didn’t have the personality to do so. She stuck mostly to herself as she watched each student slowly get called to find out their own destiny.
“Flowers, Violet”, her name being called caused a few girls to snicker at the name. Snapping her head towards them she sent a small glare as if daring them to say something to her face. The voice called her name again, this time more stern, “Miss Flowers.” She followed suit to call and climbed the small number of stair into the room.
There it was, the sorting hat. She took a nervous step forward into the room as if quieted back down. The students waiting to find how who the next house student would. Looking at the large group of student she turned her attention back to the mission ahead. She was there to be sorted into her new forever home. Taking her seat, the hat was placed upon her head. Today was different her coils were work down with a shiny hair clip keeping them out of her face. She picked this hairstyle for the fact she knew this would be happening and she wanted the hat to get a good read.
“Interesting, very interesting,” the spoke as it turned her head towards the Hufflepuff house. “I see so much potential in you,” it continued not giving her time to think clearly about what it meant. “Bravery and heart much like your brother. Not a bad mind, quick witted you are indeed, but I also see ambition and drive.” She knew what the hat was hinting at and she immediately started to chant in her head, “anything but Slytherin, anything but Slytherin, anything but...” her head was whipped straight forward this time.
“Not Slytherin eh?” the hat called before it verbally tsked, “You could be a great wizard, change the course of history. I know. Well if you insist, better be...”, the hat paused as if it second guessed it’s self or curiously enough as if it had caught a glimpse of something it did not yet see. “Slytherin!”
When her house was called the Slytherin’s cheered standing and clapping to welcome the new comer. The Gryffindor’s booed as a new rival of theirs was born. Violet however sat still frozen in shock and confusion. The little brown face looked up when the professor motioned for her to join her new house. How, how could this be? The hat didn’t lead her to believe it would place her in this house that she didn’t belong to.
There had not been a Slytherin in the family for over centuries, long before the war. Numb she walked down the steps and towards the table that sat under the green flag. She accepted the high fives, shoulder pats, and even hair ruffles the older Slytherin’s gave her. Maybe this house wasn’t so bad, she could make a family out of these people.

Teresa sat there on that wooden stool, the whole school sitting in front of her. Teresa's nervousness rising higher. So that's it? She's sitting here finally. Now's her chance, now's her time. What house will she be sorted into? Will the people in that house like her? Will she make friends? What about the whole school? Many thoughts were running through her mind. Her thinking process was stopped when the Great Hall silenced. It has began.
The teacher put The Sorting Hat on her head. Teresa stared to sweat. The Great Hall gasped for the last time. It is truely here.
"Hm... you're clever one, indeed." The Sorting Hat started. "A friendly one too, not afraid to help, that is valueable."
"H-Hufflepuff?" Teresa asked quietly The Sorting Hat.
"What did you said? Hufflepuff?" The Sorting Hat said and then added. "Then as you wish... HUFFLEPUFF!"
Teresa's eyes started to water, she was so happy, really happy. The people at Hufflepuff table started to cheer, she was starting to feel welcomed and at home. Teresa stood up and went to her house table, sitting down. She smiled cheerfully. Teresa did it, she will make her mother proud! She was sorted to the same house as her mother!
"I'm Teresa, Teresa Shadowmoon." She finally says, looking at the food all over the table.

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
September 1, 2019
The arrival to Hogwarts was straight out of a dream. It felt completely surreal when the train finally came to a halt and the groundskeeper greeted them, wasting no time to guide them down the steep, narrow path until they finally reached the edge of the infamous great lake, the amazing view of the Hogwarts castle perched on top of a high mountain; the light within glistening along to the beautiful starry night sky. It was all too good to be true, it seemed. Even on the boat ride that neared the place was enough to just send butterflies fluttering about within his stomach.
It was even more-so when they’ve finally reached the Great Hall, lit by thousands of floating candles over flour, extremely long tables where students sat in their respective houses; adorned by the different colour neckties of their uniforms. Hundreds of faces and set of eyes watched him, and the other first years, stride across the hall to where the Sorting Hat was upfront singing its anthem.
The silence that came after was deafening; the sounds of his own heartbeat did not aid in the anticipation and for some reason his vision almost blurred as he could barely watch his pupils walk up to the lively hat to get sorted into their ideal houses. He wasn’t sure as to what house he wanted to be in, or what house he should be in. He knew that his father had been sorted into Ravenclaw, while his mother had been sorted into a house at Beauxbatons that was seemingly comparable to that of Slytherin. And before he could even realize what was even happening; loud and clear, his name was finally called:
“Sohn, Klaus!”
It was as if a high-pitched, ringing tone caused by a metal beater brought him back to his senses while he moved along up the steps to where the Professor held up the squirmish hat and Klaus settled into the stool.
“Ah~ How complicated this one is… Very complicated indeed… You have a mighty strong character, much like your father; ambitious, but more driven by the unknown… Your high intellect mustn’t be overlooked - a perfect fit in Ravenclaw… Though something tells me that you have a thirst, for not only knowledge… but some sort of recognition. Hmm… decisions, decisions, decisions….”
Klaus could only shut his eyes, swallowing the lump in his throat as he could only just listen to the magical speaking hat; waiting for the final verdict.
“Slytherin!”
His eyes opened wide, the loud cheers coming from the Slytherin table as they cheered for another member to their wicked family. He could only smile as he felt the weight of the hat whisked off his head while he hopped off the stool and made his way over and immediately, he was engulfed by bright grins, welcoming gestures and greetings. And the little French boy beamed from ear to ear; probably the widest of all grins that he’s ever put on over the years.
Klaus stared up at the starry-like ceiling, taking a deep breath as he settled into his seat and whispered to himself.
“Tu seras fier de moi, papa, mama.”

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
It was everything her family had told her and more. The students chattering at their tables, the Sorting Hat as worn down as had been described to her, her fellow first-years surrounding her - it all felt familiar to her. Like home. Already, that's what it had become.
Home.
"Riona Murphy."
Her name had been called, and it was her turn to receive the guidance of this omniscient hat. She walked slowly, proudly, feeling deep within her bones that every decision in her life had lead up to this moment. She sat upon the stool and placed the hat on her head, where it fell snug and comfortable. Then it spoke.
"Hmm, difficult, most difficult... There's potential for greatness, yes, and what you lack in ambition is made up for by pertinacity, yet you don't seek knowledge nor glory... Interesting, very interesting; you don't have the heart of a Hufflepuff, the mind of a Ravenclaw or the intent of a Slytherin... But your determination and daring mean that you belong in the brave house of GRYFFINDOR."
Cheers erupted from the Gryffindor table. She took the hat off, making her way to her fellow lions, as slow and confident as before. Gryffindor wasn't a bad house to be in. She wasn't sure what house she was expecting to be Sorted into; she didn't consider herself to be courageous, but the Sorting Hat (apparently) knows you better than you know yourself. Either way, she was a Gryffindor, and she would stay a Gryffindor.

Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, will not be cake.

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
Cress was super excited when she stepped into the Great Hall. Being Muggle-born, she didn't really know what to expect. She'd overheard students on the Hogwarts Express there whispering about the sorting ceremony, but she still wasn't entirely sure. Apparently there were four houses and each one had different character traits. Since she didn't know much about any of them, she decided to be chill with whatever one she was placed into.
Moon, Crescent!
Cress stumbled forward to sit on the stool in the front of the room. Being a bit shy with all the attention she was being afforded, she kept her head down and let her hair fall in her face. Studying the blue highlights in it, she pushed her glasses back up and waited while the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.
"Hmm, ah yes, a social child. But, what's this? A spark of shyness and equal determination to succeed. Very interesting," the voice of the hat spoke in her head. "Do you have any preference?" It was asking her. She thought that no, she didn't because she didn't know the full history of each house. "Well, then," the voice continued, "I'll put you in... Hufflepuff!"
With shaking legs, she joined her fellow Hufflepuffs at their table where she was met with smiles, applause, and greetings.
