rookline Quinn’s time at Hogwarts was indeed in fact draining if not lonely. Yet, she’d had good times, the times she was able to read and meet new people. Honestly, the Ravenclaw witch would quite rather speak and meet new people then to chat with old pals. She didn’t want them to feel pity for what she was going through. Wet, rainy, and perhaps snowy November came and went, and the Welsh Ravenclaw found herself in her dorm, dozing just a bit, on a late November day after classes.

Once Brookline figured out she could not fall to deeper sleep, she yawned and sat up, with Tigeress at the foot of her bed, with a trampled rodent tucked between the narrow jaws of the kitten.

“Tigeress!” A shrill, strained whisper escaped the young girl’s lips as she stared at the feline in horror. “Get off my bed. Now! Take your disgusting rodent with you.” She was careful to keep her voice to not disrupt Dove, Ophelia’s cat. Ophelia was her dorm-mate, and Dove and Tigeress were like best friends. Brookline presumed Dove and Tigeress play-fight with each other all the time in the dorm while the two Ravenclaws were off during class or really anywhere. @Ophelia Northwell

Socked feet would nudge Tigeress to give her the message that she was not welcome on the bed with that rat. Brookline gasped a silent sigh of relief as Tigeress leaped off the bed in one single motion. She didn’t care if her cat left her prizes around the dorm, (though it was quite disgusting and horrific stepping upon one’s small rodent-like body), yet, Brookline drew the line when Tigeress brought a small bird, or any kind of vermin. Besides, Brookline never fancied dead animal bodies or anything that revolves around death. Not the cold, sickening feeling.

The Welsh Ravenclaw grabbed her book and sweater, hoping to get a little reading in before dinner (even though she wasn’t planning to eat). Before she did go outside, she’d visit her two sisters who were residing here at Hogwarts as well. And, yet, she would frown before she knock on the two first years’ dorms.

Brookline went outside despite the biting cold, in which she brought her warm sweater, and a little cute hat. Marie and Minnie had been spending more time with her, and Brookline was slowly backing up just when Marie made her swear she’d wear the hat when she went outside. She’d roll her blue eyes at the fact that Marie made her swear, because what else was she going to do? Freeze to death? Brookline was old enough to know how long she spent outside in the frigid cold and when to come in. She wasn’t s little, lingering child. And she knew it. She knew it. She was not a child.

The young Quinn did get cold easily, yet, today was a chill day, with little snow dusting on the ground. She’d go to a sturdy tree and sit down, and took this book out that she’d brought. Brookline loved reading yet did not receive as much time to do so. She was always quite busy with her studies, class, sleeping. Eating was just barely in the line in schedule, and she knew she did have some snacks in her trunk, so if she did skip/miss dinner ever once in a while, she could always eat one of those snacks to take the edge of her hunger.

Brookline thought about all this as she stared out at the Great Lake, just wondering how old the lake was. How old the castle was. To her standards, and to be fair, the Hogwarts castle was pretty old, due to all the ghosts and old features. Magic was pretty old, too. She’d turn her own wand in her hand, feeling all the familiar ridges, and just wonder how she became one of the lucky ones to be one with magic and power. Some of those Muggles out there didn’t to discover magic all their lives. Brookline grabbed a pebble, and chucked it in the lake, hoping to make the stone hop across the surface. How much force she’d put in the chuck just made the little stone to sink under the surface. She tried again with a smaller rock, and caused it to skip across the surface three times. This time with a slightly larger pebble, Brookline had skipped it five times. She silently congratulated herself, and went to that tree she had been thinking about. With her book, she slid down the tree with her back, to sit among the treasured roots of this trees. It was very familiar to sit between the oak’s roots.

Brookline took the hat off and turned it around, hoping to see a tag somewhere, to prove that Marie was lying when she said she’d knitted the very hat. She never did find a tag or really anything that was prove her younger sister did knit this very hat. Perhaps Marie was telling the truth that she made it, yet, who the heck taught her? Brookline’s mum didn’t know or neither did Lizy. Maybe a friend or a upperclassmen, yet, Brookline just could not see how the Ravenclaw first year was able to knit such a lovely thing. The Welsh girl had out the hat back on, and sighed.

Brookline opened her book, and a slip of parchment paper slipped out. She narrowed her eyebrows, wondering how the parchment got there. There was some scrawled writing on the slip.

Oh, it was the letter Lizy sent me last week, she thought, and tucked the slip behind the back cover. Brookline then scanned across the words, reading her novel.

There was something about this morning that just felt... so particularly dreary. From the morning Jrue woke up, she felt this sickeningly persistant feeling of what could only be described as unhappiness. Or rather it was the unsatisfaction she had towards the temperature of her room this morning. Someone must have left the fireplace, or a lamp burning, because when the sun rose and it was time for her to get her feet on the ground, Jrue's skin was aching from the heat. It sweltered, causing her to tear off her sleeping clothes and make her way outside before her whole body turned into a puddle of sweat.

Then there was the breakfast. They served all of her least favorites; baked beans, whole grain toast, and potatoes... ugh! The smell of the beans alone made her sick to her stoumach. So she grabbed a piece of bacon and split, not caring to stay any longer. Crunching down on the bacon, she had thought to herself, I've probably got tons of homework to complete. Potions to research, or my dorm could use a sprucing up..

Much to her dismay, none of those sentences had been true. Her homework was done, none for potions, surprisingly, and her dorm was as clean as a whistle. She'd sat on her bed for a bit, staring down at her fingernails. The paint on her thumb had chipped off a bit. Mmh.. I'll just paint them tomorrow.. She decided, turning around in her bed to see what books she had to read. On her window was perched a copy of The Secret History. She had let out a soft gasp, grinning as she had hopped up to grab it. "I could always read outside.. by the willows! I love the willows.." She'd lick her lips, gathering her things together and cramming them into her little leather satchel.

So now Jrue found herself wandering down a steep, cobbled path down to the lake, the air just cold enough to make her nose sting a tad. Her hair was bouncing up and down on her shoulders, the two maroon ribbons tying pieces of her hair back falling into her face. She was on her way to her favorite hidey spot, as decided after she fell into her own little trance wandering through the unrestricted parts of the grounds. She'd found the nook of trees by the lakeside very appealing. Plus, the day it had been spotted, the sun was baking down on everything it saw, and she needed a shady spot to take a break.

In the few times she had visited it since then, nobody else had been there. She was glad at this, meaning she had a spot all to herself. She hummed a jolly little tune, her voice soft and dainty and a stark contrast to the static sound of the air and trees around her. She crossed her arms, rubbing them together when she felt the tiniest goose pimples appearing on her skin. As she reached the bottom of a sloped hill, she heard the splashing of water down at the lake. Her head snapped up, blinking as her eyes adjusted to the view of the body of water.

By the edge of the Great Lake she saw a brown haired girl throwing tiny little pebbles at the waters surface. Jrue was still a great number of paces away, undetected and unspotted by the person she was spying on. Jrue didn't recognize her, she must've been an older student who'd had a break in her day. She pulled her bag to the side of her body, watching the girl finish skipping her rocks, and take place under a shady tree. Wait.. Jrue gasped, furrowing her eyebrows. That's my tree! She guffawed at the girl, continuing to walk in her direction.

As Jrue neared her she noticed the girl was reading a book. As to what book it was, she couldn't tell. She would definitely have to quiz mystery girl on what book it was, probably one she had already read. She stopped a few feet away from the foot of the girl, clearing her throat. She watched as the girl realized she was standing there. "Greetings.. I feel horrible interrupting your reading time, but I do believe you're sitting in my spot. I don't know if this is a spot you've also claimed, and it just so happens that we've always come on days that the other has not, but I do wish to have it back. It's my, uh.. heh.. reading spot, where I come to sit, and enjoy my time alone..." She pursed her lips as she finished, a concerned look plastered over her eyes. She looked around, at the trees, the water, the ground the girl was sitting on, then to scan the girls face again.

This was going to be one awkward conversation if she didn't give the spot up. Jrue bit her tongue. I need to be kinder.. I'll just.. sit under another tree.. She thought, rubbing her cheek softly. "On second thought," she spoke, "You can sit here, we are in a forest after all.. there's um.. other.. trees.." Jrue said, feeling meek and weak as she took a small step backwards.

rookline had knitted her eyebrows briefly before recognizing the old, yellowed piece of parchment paper. Once she gently set in back inside the paperback’s weak cover, the Welsh Ravenclaw’s glance traveled to the the top of the novel, starting from the first word.

Unfortunately and unusually, the attention span of Brookline Isabella Quinn was significantly smaller than it ever was before. Her eyes turned up to catch a glimpse or two of the castle, and then they slid back down to the black, printed words of the fragile page.

Drumming her fingers on her page, she stared at the words, worrisome daydreams flitting in and out of her irises. The Ravenclaw girl touched her brunette braid, that was peeking out from underneath her hat, with trembling fingers. She sighed, her dark blue eyes shone as she scanned the page.

As a third-year, Brookline had more responsibilities with homework and putting more stress on herself as she'd gotten out more to practice broomracing. The young Quinn crossed her eyes, in reflect to boredom, causing all the words on her novel to blur and screw up. When she stopped, a blinding pain bloomed under her temple, and she wanted to chuck the book aside. Anything to get rid of this persistent throbbing. Honestly, the Welsh girl might even train a dragon if someone even told her if bargaining would cure all this lonely, constant pain.

While Brookline stayed still, everything else moved so much quickly around. It was as if she was the only one on the ever-spinning Earth that was motionless and stationary. Perhaps she was just waiting for that bus to stop and so she can take a breath and get on with her life. As thoughts whittled in her head like a whitter might carve his wooden statue or animal with a sharp, menacing pocket knife, Brookline turned her most likely unwanted attention to her paperback.

As the girl read and read, to the best of her ability, Brookline had not be attentive her surroundings and a girl had crept up to her. It wasn't until the other student had cleared her throat to let Brookline know that she was there. Startled, the Welsh Ravenclaw jumped---"Oh!?"

She tipped her head up to identify a young female student standing in front of her with tightly embracing a leather satchel, who had glossy maple strands and beautiful grey eyes. Now Brookline Isabella Quinn wished she had grey eyes instead of these highly impressive blue ones.

Brookline wondered if this other witch was a second or first year, and she fidgeted with the parchment-like page of her book. Yet, before the first year could speak, Brookline straightened herself to look presentable, her old self taking over for a bit, which wasn't sometime this out of wack Brookline would disagree with. "Hi! Everything okay?" She reluctantly asked, her voice unfortunately thick with her Welsh twang. Then the other student explained why she would even approach this mess of a third year. Apparently this younger girl had already claimed this tree, and then like a timid mouse, rubbed her cheek and took a shaky step back, stating that she would just search for a different to read by.

Being the good person Brookline was, she slammed her paperback with a satisfying smack, pouncing up in a quick manner, and exclaimed, "Oh my Merlin, I'm sorry! I did not mean to snatch your spot. Of course you can sit here; I was just about to leave anyhow." A little white lie, yet that wasn't that harmful, right? It wasn't as if Brookline and this girl would ever meet again, right?

Hogwarts is filled with hundred of students, how the hell would I ever even meet this first year again? Brookline thought. Only unless the universe wants to throw yet annother thing at me.

"Well..." The Welsh witch stalled, as she had no intention to leave. "I might as introduce myself. My name's Brookline. Brookline Quinn, third-year Ravenclaw. You are....?"

Not one of Brookline's smoothest intentions yet the close enough she's going to get today.
