After waiting for his house mates for a good hour, Riku walked up to the entrance hall, and into the Great Hall proper, feeling mildly annoyed. That time could've been used to be here, having breakfast. He would've started exploring the castle right now if he hadn't waited. Shaking his head, Riku sat down at his house table; noticing how parse it was here and there for not only his house, but those of the others.

The second he sat, did the food appear around him. Eggs, crispy bacon, cooked sausages, toast, drinks of plenty and variety...it was an incredible spread. As he dished out his meal, Riku's thoughts questioned where it all came from; so much for one person? Did someone make it or was it don't by some magic? Another thing to learn he supposed, though with finding out, maybe he could create meals whenever it was necessary...

Riku's thoughts then shifted to his future classes. After exploring a bit, it would be best to create a schedule of which subjects to focus on, and spend most of his time with. While he was eager to start Transfiguration, he knew for a fact his mother would string him up if he neglected something like the History of Magic.

Riku shook his head. It would be best to wait until he got the necessary information before completing any plans

She had just finished packing last night, as well as also introducing herself to her dorm roommates, so Breana was very much tuckered out the minute she got some shut eye. Soon after the morning came, once she opened her eyes she prepped herself up, making sure her uniform was well pressed and clean cut. As she looked at herself in the mirror, Breana smiled, giddy as she saw her house colors on herself, as if it's a stamp of officialism on her. She scurried off downstairs, with a book in hand, ready to start the morning. Since the first class of the day is Potions, Breana couldn't wait to finish breakfast and rush over to the Potions classroom. The book she held was Magical Drafts and Potions, one of the required reading for the class, so she felt that she was more than prepared.

As she entered the Great Hall, Breana couldn't resist opening up her book and burying her nose in it. Her blue-ish brown eyes widened as she looked at the way the book was written. It was as if she can see the author themselves writing it in this exact moment. Unfortunately for the little Ravenclaw, she didn't notice that she was seated at the wrong table, sitting down next to a Slytherin boy. She took a platter for her meal, taking a good helping of bacon and eggs, her eyes still focused on the book.

Riku paused at the presence of another person sitting close beside him. He wouldn't normally have minded, but then they scooped up bits and pieces of the meal that had been presented for him.

Riku took a small breath.

No, the food was for everyone. While he may have been here first, it didn't mean it belonged to him...it would seem this boarding school life will take some minor adjusting to.

With a shake of his head, he turned to take in the person. They were of a similar complexion as him, though she was a full head shorter, and hair far more wild than his own. Riku also realized that she was a Ravenclaw; lost in the book that she was reading; taking bites of her meal in odd intervals.

Riku glanced around his table, they were pretty isolated from the rest of his table, and the ravenclaw table was just one over. It seemed she had miss judged the distance and ended up here. Riku chuckled, he couldn't really blame her; he'd experience his own moments of forgetting the word and focusing on his own reading.

... Maybe she could be useful. She seemed to have the right work ethic, that's for sure, and this was an opportunity to gain insight on not just only her, but the ravens as well, if she was the natural disposition of the house.

Speaking out aloud, Riku addressed her, jokingly "You know, I held the opinion that it was crows that were scavengers, not ravens. Even then, I had hoped ravens were smart enough to know that they shouldn't try to steal a snake's meal."

Summer bounced into the Great Hall feeling unusually happy. She had succeeded in making a few acquaintances at school, and no longer felt quite so lonely. Still she decided it was in her best interest to bring a book down to breakfast, a hobby she’d had ever since she’d learned to read. As she looked around the Great Hall, she realized how early it was still, explaining the very few people at breakfast. She headed over to the Slytherin table, which appeared to be the most empty of the lot. In fact, there were only two people there - a Slytherin boy Summer vaguely recognized and a Ravenclaw girl with her nose deep in a book. Clearly, she’d so into her book she’d sat down at the wrong table. Summer couldn’t blame her. It was easy to do something like that when you were reading a good book. Sitting down across from the boy, Summer waved a brief hello in greeting before piling her plate high with sausage, cinnamon buns, and fruit salad. She began to eat quietly, but found the silence to be deafening, so she pulled out her book, allowing herself to be drawn into the fairy tale world.

Riku found himself to be quite amused in this current situation. On his left, a lost and book drunk raven, on his right, a nervous snake with an interesting diet if her breakfast selection and the speed in which she had lost herself within the book she had brought down.

Was this what they defined as divine providence? Riku chuckled aloud at his internal joke. He glanced at the girl; she too had an agreeable demeanor. As far as first impressions go, and she also was a part of his house, meaning he'd have a person for immediate advantages if it came to that. Also, she seemed to not be one to take charge of a situation, given the lack of any follow up remarks... A follower maybe? That may be alright, if she had any particular talents or continued to show similar interests in order to remain agreeable.

Riku shook his head. Maybe that old hat did hit the mark; his first thoughts had been on how useful and mutually beneficial a relationship would be for him if he pursued her. Coming to an internal conclusion, Riku spoke.

"Good morning, you'll have to forgive me, I can't recall your name from the sorting. I'm Riku Aburame, by the way." glancing at the book, he counted, "that's an interesting book, is it any good?"

Breana was halfway finishing up her bit of a bacon when her ears perked up at what the boy beside her said. "Hm...? That's a weird proverb. Is it from a new philosopher or--" As she turned her head to look at her seatmate, she blinked her eyes. Unfortunately for her, she wasn't colorblind. She looked around at the rest of the table. Another student, a girl, also in green robes.

Slytherins.

Every.

Single.

One.

She quickly stood up, heavily embarrassed at the whole ordeal. "A-ah!! So sorry! I was-- er... my book..." She panicked, before doing a small bow. "S-sorry...!" She said, quickly turning around to head to the Ravenclaw table. She stopped for a moment. Usually she would just cower away with her tail between her legs, but this is Hogwarts. New school, new ventures. Her mother taught her to seize the moment, so why not do it now?

She inhaled deeply before turning back to the boy. "... Eagles." She said firmly, turning back to them. "I-it's a common misconception, but... the symbol for the Ravenclaw house are eagles. For broader vision and all that." Breana turned her back to the boy. "Though, being a Slytherin, I figured you'd be basking too much in your own egotistic glory to check if you're right." She said. Unbeknownst to her, that statement made a few of the students turn their heads. Breana realized that what she said obviously gave her a large target on her head to the green garbed students, but she's already in this ship, might as well steer onward. "Now, if you'll excuse me..." She said, ready to walk away from the possibly angry table.

Riku tilted his head in amusement. Ah, so this was the famous Slytherin animosity. Her words and reactions were more interesting than disparaging in his opinion. Glancing at his fellow housemate, she seemed to be waiting on something. Riku focused back on the hesitantly moving Raven.

She had initially been palcating and making attempts to excuse her prior behavior, then caught herself and acted rashly... Normally submissive and shy maybe?

Riku was also now sharing the focus of those of the higher year, as well as maybe a potential ally. He came to decision then, curious to see how this girl would act.

"Really?" he stated first to catch her attention, "If that was what truly been chosen as a symbol, then your founder was far short-sighted than your eagle. A raven is know for its cleverness, adaptability and its unique learning ability; something that I had believed your house idealized. But I suppose I was wrong, though maybe not. You do seem to show a great 'unkindness' that the creatures are known for, if that's your response to a simple mistake, miss..." Riku paused, curious to see how she would act now that decorum called for her to answer.

Summer looked up when the boy spoke. ”Hmm? Oh, I’m Summer. Summer Chesser. It’s a pleasure to meet you Riku. The book? Oh, it’s one of my favorites!” She debated on whether or not to divulge into a lengthy description, but decided now was not the time. Instead she sat and listened curiously as the Ravenclaw talked about common misconceptions, and eagles, and egotistic Slytherins. At this last notion, Summer cleared her throat. “Excuse me, but I think you’ll find that then notion that all Slytherins are egotistic brats is also a common misconception. After that whole little speech about misconceptions, I thought you’d realize that stereotypes are often misconceptions as well.” She smiled sweetly in a rather passive-aggressive way. The whole table, as well as a few other students, were now watching the scene. Summer blissfully took a bite of her sticky bun. Her face didn’t show it, but she was rather excited to see the outcome of all this. Riku responded to the girl’s little speech with much more decorum than Summer had managed to. He had spoken rather eloquently, and it was clear to Summer that he testing the waters. This was the first animosity Summer had seen towards her house and she was curious to see how it ended.

Breana staggered back, instantly regretting saying the statement, and also staying at the Slytherin Table still. Nevertheless, the poor girl pressed on, her head still high (though her eyes were starting to water) as she listened to the bothersome Slytherin that started the whole fiasco. She was about to open her mouth again when another person chimed in. Even though she expected this, it still made her posture falter for a moment before she composed of herself again. Her mother might've taught her seize the moment, but she can only imagine her mother's face if she found out her daughter seized her own house.

She opened her mouth, but unfortunately for the little girl words were having a hard time escaping her lips. She does have the words in her head, but the connection of it from there to her brain is lacking in that department. It took her a moment or so before she cleared her throat, hoping that none of the Slytherins are noticing her eyes getting teary. "W-well, it's impossible for a person to change their last name, now is it? Though I can only assume Rowena Ravenclaw chose the eagle to avoid the negative stereotypes that fell on the r-raven... and an unkindness? When an octopus feel threatened, they spurt out ink. I can only do so much when a Slytherin has directed their venom towards me." She quickly turned her attention to the girl now. "... A-and as for misconceptions on stereotypes, they do still ring faint truths, e-even if it's little... Now, as your housemate so obviously pointed out, I'm still in the Slytherin table, so e-excuse me..." Before any of the two students can react, Breana dashed off, though surprisingly not to the Ravenclaw table, but rather to the door leading outside the Great Hall

Riku found himself somewhat disappointed. So, it appears that it seemly as nothing more than a front, and her first inclination was the natural one. Useful to know, but not much gained about her otherwise than an inability to stand peer pressure. Understandable, but still... Disappointing.

Riku then focused his attention to the Slytherin still close beside him as she ate her meal. The way her eyes had shifted away from him as he turned, spoke to where her focus was previously upon.

Riku smiled internally.

Perhaps the hat was indeed right; he had found those of similar mindset and potential within his house. Perhaps Ms. Chesser was of a similar stock to Alex?

Some fair she's shown anl natural desire for knowledge, a quick wit and sharp tongue, and a predisposition for figuring out those around her. Riku chuckled at himself at the last thought; he may be setting his hopes up. As the little raven had shown, not all first impressions mean that they could be beneficial to his desires or worth his potential aid and time.

Chuckling aloud, Riku spoke to the female Slytherin, "It seems as the baby bird has found her wings and flew away. A shame really, I was curious on the mettle of the house I had thought I'd be going to."
