It was the last day of February. Jack still had the card that Ruka had given him for protection and it had served him well. However, it seemed a waste not to use it before its power was gone. And since Ruka had told Jack a good number of things the day before about the people he had met while they had been apart, the redheaded Slytherin had a good idea of who might have been best to use the Valentine's Day card on. Since Ruka had gotten it for him, it only seemed fitting to use it in the Gryffindor's honor as well.
As it so happened, a couple of snakes from Jack's very own dormitory seemed to have been responsible for giving Ruka a hard time. Though only the name of one of them was known to the fire-dancer, the other was described well enough that Jack was able to determine the name of the second. There was only one person who talked the extremely obnoxious way that Slytherin did. As for the other...he may not exactly have had malicious intent, but he still seemed like he deserved something for trying to use Ruka and going behind Jack's back in an attempt to get information that he could use against them.
The plan was simple enough. Though Jack and Ruka had made up the day before, Jack would eat at his own table and Ruka at his for that morning's breakfast, still behaving as though they no longer had anything to do with one another. Once the meal was over, Jack would go to the boys' lavatory, only to return and tell Hanako and Flash that there was something in the bathroom that they might have wanted to see.
This plan was betting a lot on the hope that Flash and Hanako's curiosity would overcome any suspicion or caution they might have had regarding Jack and his words. Still, Jack knew that curiosity was a very strong pull. If all went according to plan, Flash and Hanako would find an envelope on the counter next to the sink. The envelope would have the neat words written:

Flash had been a bit anxious to be approached by Burnett after their last meeting, somewhat worried that Ruka had told him about everything that they had talked about earlier in the month. It had been a conversation that Flash went over multiple times in his head, thinking about what had all gone wrong and what he could have done better. More than that though, he had clearly admitted that he had been trying to find dirt on Burnett, and given the way Ruka talked about him, it was only a matter of time before that information was exchanged.
He had only a single sentence to impart, and then walked off again, alluding to something in the bathroom that he ought to see. It filled Flash with a sense of dread. He never wanted to be invited to an bathroom for any reason, let alone to ‘see something’ that Burnett put there. It seemed like such an obvious trap that it turned in on itself and freshly felt like it couldn’t possibly be a trap. After Burnett showed him the magical hidden room for his birthday, he couldn’t help but want to show him a bit of trust.
It still made him uncomfortable as the solemnly walked there. He wanted to trust his gut that everything about it was wrong, but besides the willingness to give Burnett the chance, he also had his curiosity to sate. One thought that crossed his mind briefly was Ruka. Perhaps Ruka wanted to talk about what happened, sort things out. It wasn’t likely. The way they parted last, he expected Ruka to never want anything to do with him again. No matter how many times he rehearsed it in his head, nothing he thought to say would make a difference.
He had felt the sting of failure, not just in the goal he set for himself, but as a person. He was trying his hardest, but still his plans were fraying at the ends. He was following the books, he was keeping his emotions in check, but nothing ever turned out the way he wanted it to. But he just couldn’t accept that he might be nearing his limit, he had to persevere and adapt. So much was riding on his success.
Which was why, when he entered the empty bathrooms and found a plain-looking envelope sitting out in the open addressed to him, he looked it over suspiciously. It was incredibly fishy, almost like a set-up for a joke. He didn’t know how to come at such an unusual situation, but it wasn’t at all unlike Burnett to enjoy confounding him.
He recognized the other name on the envelope, at least he knew there was another Slytherin with the first name Hanako. It was uncommon enough that he could assume it was him, though they two of them had never formally met.
”Hanako?” Flash said it out loud, not sure if he was meant to find the boy or not. It wasn’t like he had time to hunt down other students for some dubious ‘owed payment’. The wording itself was so ominous. Burnett wouldn’t set up such an obvious trap. It was too easy, wasn’t it?

Upon receiving news that there was a letter waiting for him in the abandoned toilet, he internally shivered. Not only was he mortified to take another visit to the place similar to the one that holds haunting memories of puking out slugs, but he was utterly suspicious of the carrier of bad news.
The carrier, being the one and only Jack Burnett, did not ease Hanako. The more he thought about it, the more it was clear there was definitely something suspicious about it.
Why would Burnett even poke around that place and take the time and effort to tell Hanako what he found?
He already had enough on his plate as it is. Ever since the incident, Hanako redefined the definition of ' cooped up '. He had already been known for his hobby of sleeping more than he should.
With this, no one was suspicious.
He spent hours and hours researching about the wizarding world and keeping up with his studies. The topics he found most interest in seemed to be ' curses '. He made a few promises that day he puked slugs. One of them is to fly Tan into another dimension for the humiliation he had to endure.
It was clear that he would rather puke slugs again than going back to those cursed bathrooms. But curiosity was a wretched thing to have.
He barely managed to open the door big enough for him to enter before he heard someone called out his name.
" The talented, the extraordinary, the one and only~ ". He hummed sweetly as he closed the door behind him. Wearing a carefree smile barely visible in the dim light as he observed standing right in front of him. It took barely a second for Hanako to confirm he had never seen the kid.
" So many mundane faces in Hogwarts and so bothersome to even pay attention to them~ " he muttered amusingly mostly to himself.
" Flattered to see a background character thinking about me out loud but continue on Stranger~. No one is stopping you here ". He snickered.
Oh how he missed to lightly insult random people. He should really take a break from all the studying he's been doing.
His eyes finally noticed a curious-looking letter in the background character's hand and immediately showed a sudden interest in the item.
" What's that you got over there ?" he asked, eyes completely focused on the said letter.

When Hanako entered, he mired the disgusting environment with an even more repulsive attitude. With a greeting such as the one he received as a first official impression of the boy, he could only look back at him with a face of incredulity. Mundane face… I know better than to believe that... It wasn’t a personality type it was at all unused to. His private school had been full of people who talked like Hanako. At least there, most kids had the sense to know who Flash was. As a Slytherin, this kid had no sense of self-preservation not knowing who his classmates were. Self-centeredness must have replaced it.
Not that Flash had much in the way of self-preservation himself, being in the bathroom with a boy he barely knew and a letter from Burnett. He didn’t know whether to leave right then, or just rip it off like a band-aid.
”Hanako. How delightful for you to join me right as you’re being summoned.” Flash voice was completely unaffected, and droned. ”I was reading from this.”
Flash handed him the letter for him to read over, before he gave it back. It would do as an introduction to who he was, if Hanako even bothered to connect that the other person mention on the letter was him. Flash flipped it around in his hands a few more times for good measure. Nothing about the envelope seemed strange. It was completely normal-looking.
”May as well see what the devil has in store.” The two of them were there, so there was no point in shuffling their feet any longer. It was likely some kind of prank, but how bad could it be? If anything, Flash wanted to know what Burnett was capable of.
So he opened the letter.

Despite having made up with Jack the day before, Ruka found himself alone at the Gryffindor Table that morning.
Granted, it was already a big deal for him to be there at all, and without Jack's fedora on his head at that, but even though he had forced himself to swallow down a whole bowl of porridge, breakfast wasn't really what he was there for.
No, what he was there for was the plan he and Jack - mostly Jack - had come up with to send some greetings to a couple of friends Ruka had made over the past two weeks, just to let them know they weren't forgotten. For the plan to work, however, it had to seem like Jack and Ruka still weren't talking to each other, so Ruka had done his best not to keep glancing at the Slytherin Table to make eye contact with the other boy.
It was difficult, really, but he was pretty sure he made it through breakfast without being too obvious about seeking Jack out in the crowd. Anyway, it wasn't just Jack he'd kept an eye out for; he'd spotted both Flash as well as the slug boy from the abandoned bathrooms, and once he'd watched both of them leaving the Great Hall, he had gotten up to follow them at a safe distance.
In the midst of everything, Ruka had lost sight of Jack for a while, but it was to be expected as the Slytherin was the one to set everything up for the other two boys' surprise, waiting for them in the Boy's Lavatory.
Anyway, they had arranged to meet at the Lavatory, so that was where Ruka was heading, making sure he stayed away from both Flash and Slug Boy enough for them not to realise that he was heading in the same direction.
So, by the time he reached the bathroom, he assumed both Flash and Slug Boy had already been there for a few moments, had probably already found their envelope and opened it. Ruka waited for a moment outside the closed door, looking up and down the hallway for any sign of Jack, but there were only a few random passing students, so after a short while Ruka came to the most plausible conclusion: Jack was probably already inside with the other two boys.
Sighing to himself, he reached a hand up to squeeze the fire pendant he'd gotten from Jack the day before, as if asking it for moral support, then let it go again and slowly pushed open the door to the Lavatory, eyes widening at the sight in front of him.
Both Flash and Slug Boy were there, both of them had found the card Jack had left them, clearly, and Flash had seemingly just opened the envelope - And Jack was nowhere to be seen.
"Oh," he said wearily, not quite sure what else to do.
Seeing both of them together made Ruka swallow a tight knot in his throat, and seeing the card - his card - that was supposed to have some strange effects on the people in the area was giving him a small feeling of uneasiness, and mostly he was just hoping Jack was on his way, because no matter what, he was pretty sure neither of these two boys were very happy to see him, love potion laced Valentine's Card in hand or not.

Just as he was finishing up his breakfast, Jack finally allowed himself to glance over at the Gryffindor table. Flash and Hanako had appeared to both have departed the Great Hall for the boy's lavatory - a practical place to go after breakfast - but he didn't want to follow after immediately for fear of either being suspicious or caught up in what they were likely about to unleash.
However, Jack realized at the last minute that their agreement to meet at the lavatory was far too vague. There had been no time specified and no one had said anything about whether they were supposed to meet inside or outside the bathrooms.
Suddenly concerned about the fact that he couldn't find the familiar second-year Gryffindor at his table among his housemates, the Slytherin jumped up and hurried in the direction he had sent the other boys. Just as he rounded the corner, he saw Ruka standing in the open doorway to the lavatory and his jaw dropped.
"Tân, wait!"
Jack ran at Ruka in an attempt to tackle him to the ground to get him away from the door. He hadn't told Ruka exactly what the effects of the card were because he'd only had once chance to test it prior and he wasn't certain if it always worked the same way. There were also specifics he himself wasn't sure of, such as how long it took for the effects of the card to take hold of its victims or what range said effects had.
When Jack had approached Selim after the latter had been exposed, the card had seemed harmless by then, so the redheaded Slytherin guessed it was only potent for a few seconds. How long had Ruka been standing there with the door open, though? And how far did the card's scent - presuming it worked by scent - reach?
"Tân, are you okay? Can you hear me?" If he had indeed tackled the smaller boy, the first-year pushed himself up off him immediately, looking the fire-dancer over for any fresh injuries. However, Jack still didn't dare turn around to check on the state of his dorm mates in the bathroom.

The moment he broke the seal of the envelope, he smelled something heavenly. He closed his eyes to focus on the scent-- he had to know what it was, it had to be captured. He wanted to bottle it and wear it all the time. It was like the smell of a sun bleached stone after it was hit by the first drops of summer rain. Something else, too, paper… ink. The scent was so pleasant that it sent him on a flight of fancy. It seemed to only get more complex as he continued to analyze it, it was a vivid experience.
He felt almost sorrowful to be interrupted in his imagination by the sound of an opening door, and a voice. When he looked to see who it was, his eye was instead caught by the glimmering shine of something metallic reflected off the dull light of the bathroom windows. Whatever it was instantly captured Flash’s undivided attention. Unable to see it clearly enough for his liking, he took a few steps forward, feeling brand new enthusiasm for the object with each detail.
It was a necklace, hung by a black cord, made of what looked to be four different types of gold, each one illuminating the color of a golden flame. Its beauty was enrapturing. Flash stared at it, an almost perplexed look on his face. He didn’t know such beauty was even attainable. It was something remarkable-- one of a kind. It even looked brand new, pristine condition, yet smudged as though it had been handled too much. Flash wanted to protect it. The world needed to know what artistry was possible to achieve, it was the example upon which all future art would be judged.
He still had yet to see who the artwork adorned. He hardly cared, he wanted only to look at it carefully. He felt like if it weren’t etched into his memory, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
”Exquisite.” Flash spoke, mostly to himself, studying it intensely. ”The different shades of gold, upon a white gold center, it’s brilliant… what’s that…”
Flash could tell there was more to the center, a seam that ran along it. Before he discovered anything more, it vanished from his sight. His monomania having blinded him to his surroundings, he looked around himself suddenly, scanning for the locket. Burnett had grabbed Ruka, tearing the locket away from his view. Ruka was wearing it. He wasn’t even wearing socks anymore, but somehow he held around his shoulders the single most significant piece of artwork ever crafted by human hands.
A testament to the unfairness of the world.
”Unhand him!” Flash was upset, almost yelling. He had burning questions and needed answers. ”Ruka, tell me everything you know about that locket. What are you planning to do with it? Is it yours?”

"Oh," a new voice appeared.
Oh, indeed.
Before Hanako could open his mouth to reply with " Ew ", a screaming banshee suddenly tackled the pup to the ground and out of his view.
" What even " he managed to mutter at the strange turn of events. Unbeknownst to him, the cursed letter has been opened, just waiting to be sniffed by him. The effects got to him slower since he moved to poke his head out of the lavatory to see the one who tackled on his memorable pup.
With the position the two were in, it made the Tone sniffle laughter. But he didn't get to do it too long as the potent love potions finally reached his nose to take effect. He stopped laughing immediately.
His eyes carefully closed. He took a slow and deep breath in, savoring the sweet sensational smell that greeted him. He felt like he was transported to another world. He felt himself slipping away as something new seeped in. Something tried to bury deep down ago. Something he has sworn not to reveal any longer.
A tiny voice in his head protested, screamed and begged him not to succumb to the odd smell. But really, who could ignore something addictingly warm? His morals and promises were thrown immediately out the window. All he wanted to do was smell it more. Feel it more. Throwing more piles of wood in the fire just to keep it alive.
He needed it alive.
He needed more.
He opened his eyes.
His honey-brown eyes landed on the most gorgeous face he had ever seen. High angled cheekbones that complimented his mischievous eyes. His tuffs of red hair just made Hanako want to squeal in admiration. Had he seen this magnificently sculptured face before?
Yes~
It was the tiny imp that wrapped him up with cheap toilet paper~
Hanako let out a low whistle, a new kind of smile on his face. " やれやれ。。。, don't you look more handsome than the last time we saw eachother~"
If Hanako's happiness was water and it was almost overflowing in a cup, it would've definitely overflowed already. Fate was such an odd thing. The last time he saw the imp, he recalled finding him annoying and would not hesitate to kick him off that tree.
Perhaps it was the lighting, perhaps it was the new angle he saw the imp in, but he was questioning the function of his eyes the moment they landed on the imp a few seconds ago. Was he that blind before to ignore such a perfect face before? Just seeing him makes Hanako's world bright up.
For the first time since he arrived at Hogwarts, he wanted someone. He openly wanted to stick to the imp all day long. He wanted to eat breakfast with him, hug him, grab his ukulele and write dozens of songs for his beloved every day.
There were so many activities for them to do it made Hanako giggle a bit magically. He just couldn't wait to start!
If before he was willing to push the imp of their tree, he was more than happy to kick anyone else but his imp now.
As if a rainbow was replaced with a sudden hurricane, Hanako's face darkened at the pup. He didn't like him before. Hanako had sworn to take revenge on him once he caught up on his spell list. But seeing his beloved imp even holding the pup stirred something dark in Hanako's chest.
With a deep scowl, completely unnatural on his usually aloof face, he snapped. " I agree with the side character ".
"Hands- " he sent a chilling glare to the pup " off ".
He now had a new reason to destroy Ruka Tan.

Standing in the doorway of the bathroom, Ruka was only slightly perplexed when Flash turned to look his direction and didn't just immediately either bolt from the room or put on one of those horrible Rehearsed for hours in front of a mirror kind of smiles, but instead just took a few steps towards him and marvelled at... His necklace?
Confusion etched into his forehead, Ruka pressed out a small uhm, tempted to reach up and wrap a hand around his locket to shield it from Flash's strangely hungry eyes.
Before he could, however, he heard a familiar voice calling out his name, and before he he could do anything else, a force pushed him to the ground, making him scrape his elbow lightly on the cold tiles beneath him. The weight of his attacker was gone again almost immediately, but Jack stayed close by, seemingly checking for any damage the fall - or maybe the two Slytherin boys in the bathroom - had done to him.
"I'm fine," he mumbled, offering Jack a small smile to show that there was no real damage done. He wanted to say something else, anything really, but before he could, Flash's voice echoed through the bathroom, an upset in his voice that he hadn't heard before, and he was asking questions addressed to Ruka that simply... Didn't seem to make much sense.
"My locket?" Ruka asked as he reached out for Jack's arm to grip it for a moment in order to be able to get himself up off the floor again without struggling too much. "Of course it's mine, why else would I be wearing it?" He frowned at Flash and the harsh tone he was using to get this information from Ruka, but partly he had to admit that he preferred it to the grossly manipulative kid he had talked to before.
Opening his mouth to ask Flash in return why he was so interested in his locket, he was swiftly interrupted by Slug Boy, who had taken a rather... suggestive tone in talking to Jack.
With raised eyebrows he turned to face his Slytherin companion, trying to figure out if he'd missed anything about his relationship to the kid with the annoying voice, but before he could ask any questions, his eyes drifted back to Flash who was staring at his locket with such rapt awe and fascination, there had to be something wrong with him.
And then he finally puzzled the pieces together.
The card, of course. They had opened the card, and the love potion it was laced with... Well, while Hana had obviously taken a shine to Jack, Flash seemed to have developed strong feelings for Ruka's locket, which was, well, interesting, to say the least.
"Well, that's not how that was supposed to go, is it?" he mumbled in Jack's direction, hand reaching for his companion's sleeve to tangle his fingers in it despite Slug Boy's demand of him getting his hands off Jack.
If anything, those two words just made him feel like he should better never let go of Jack again if he didn't want Slug Boy to drag him away and keep him an eternal prisoner somewhere in the depths of Hogwarts' canalisation.
He cleared his throat slightly as he let his eyes slide from Flash to Slug Boy and back again. "So," he started with a weary little smile, eyes focused on Jack as if expecting him to have some kind of plan for this situation. "How high are the chances of them killing me if I don't leave both you and my locket to them?"
