Sara nodded along Ye-jun's answer. He's been doing that a lot lately hasn't he? It was like a gentle, silent understanding between the two that no further things needed to be said. Not when they both agreed on it. Likely each attached with their own memory. Ye-jun possibly with Tone, and Sara…. well… one thing he liked about Ye-jun and Tone was that they wanted more from the relationship. Maybe even too nervous about what was okay to uncover. Sara on the other hand, often thought too much was said. And before, he might've resented the fact or felt guilty. And yet, he gained a lot of clarity since then. He hoped that their discussion might lead Ye-jun to be encouraged more about his and Tone's relationship.

"…Sometimes… that's the only thing you can do when you're more used to being alone, isn't it? Thinking " he returned the smile with his own small one. Feeling warm despite the cold morning air at the easy flow of conversation. He hasn't talked to someone like this in…so long. It was a little sad. And he then wondered if it was the same for Ye-jun. Their dark eyes met each others gazes and it took a moment for Sara to respond. " I'm glad you tried" he said almost breathlessly. As if the short sentence meant a lot more to him than it showed.

The other mentioned his worry for Sara and he let out a light frown in worry. Though finding no reason to comment on it without sounding gossipy. It was a hard wire to balance in this conversation. Both of them with their own connection to Tone, and yet neither wanted to speak ill of him. But what was that balance? Is it gossip or mutual concern? Either way, Sara didn't feel the need to confirm what Ye-jun said. Not when he felt they both knew the only person that could really answer that was Tone himself.

Sara knew what he was saying about being vulnerable, yet in the next moment - he shared something about himself. There was something important in thinking something, and doing it still. Sara should know… considering he's been fighting his own fear all his life. And there were still fragments of his flaws that he still embedded in him. But he hoped he conveyed enough that Ye-jun didn't had to answer. It was only their second meeting. The only control Sara had was what he decided to say, and the outcome - even if it was undesirable, was just as it was. An answer. Even if his slightly beating heart said otherwise. The quidditch beater even thought that perhaps Ye-jun instead found it hypocritical that Sara shared such a thing. But surprisingly… he answered.

At the mention of yapping, Sara couldn't help but let out a light, almost shy laugh. A rarity for someone who overthinks so often. Yet, he was too happy at the moment to care. " You're… right" he said when he managed to calm down, though his tone was a lot less tense than before. As if Ye-jun's response has lifted something off his shoulder. " They … really weren't good friends. Because I don't speak up as much in the friend group, I listened more. And all I usualy heard was … how much they hated someone. And that.. unnerved me. It got me wondering…how much I was feeling down because they did that. So… I guess.. naturally.. I thought sharing would bring more trouble than good. Um.. I don't… I don't think that way anymore, though". He said, in the end. Nodding at Ye-jun's next comment about people finding something to be upset with you about.

" …Is that… something you had to deal with a lot too?" Sara asked almost shyly. He knew they started out with just talking about Tone. Sara already told himself that if this was the way to help Ye-jun with anything, he'd do it. And yet, it's been so nice talking to the other person that Sara knew it was no secret that he wanted to know more. If the other was comfortable. Thinking that maybe by knowing him more, Sara could understand more about his situation with Ye-jun.

And the other boy's next conclusion, Sara smiled a little, amused - even if he looked tense. " I … I think that's a good viewpoint on friendships. I.. admit I do need some work on myself. So I don't…try to be someone else for someone else's sake. But you seem assured in yourself, Ye-jun" he commented, a bit shyly. " You are… well.. at least to me.. you seem honest .. and sincere with yourself. Even if it may not get you a lot of friends…at least you know that people around you are… quality ones..right?"

At their slight reminiscent of their first meeting, Sara was once again shocked at Ye-jun's expression. Though, not wanting to be rude, he did his best to hide his delighted surprise. It made him feel nice to know he wasn't the only one finding the urge to smile during this conversation. A stark contrast to their past interaction. " Hahah..wow I.. you could have fooled me, Ye-Jun.." he admited, nodding at Ye-jun's next statement about breaking free of usual routines. He wanted to initially agree and mention that he was grateful such a thing happened in the end, even when they both might've had their own reservations. However it was one particular word in Ye-jun's sentence that made Sara's eye widened a little. " …. Y-you… you think I'm… easy to…talk to?" he asked hesitantly as if unsure what Ye-jun said.

Sara hasn't said anything after his question, letting Ye-jun know that he was only here to listen if Ye-jun wanted to share. He passively watched the other boy take his gaze to the sky, instinctively tilting his own head to look at the same view. Almost like the pink, orange hues of early sings of sunrise would provide an answer for them. He looked down again when noticing the way Ye-jun drummed his fingers. When the tapping stopped, he looked back again when Ye-jun turned to gaze at him again.

The beater tilted his head lightly at the question, a bit taken aback but intrigued nonetheless. " What does .. a selfish question look like to you? "

There was a light pause after Ye-jun asked the question back. Sara in the meantime was just.. in .. awe, and a bit of sadness. Ye-jun may not be aware yet just how their words, each language, and every movement of his tone had invoked a deeper reaction in Sara. For a moment, the taller boy recognized the the familiar tightening in chest and lump in his throat. One that wasn't entirely, negative.

Sara felt he had a lot of questions to ask Ye-jun. Like where he thought he was a bad guy. Yet just enough self-aware to worry so much over a friend this way. It didn't matter that Sara thought those didn't really describe him. They were all valid still. He knew what it was like to believe something about yourself that it becomes an identity. To the point that even if others told you otherwise, you wouldn't believe it. In the end, Sara memorised Ye-jun's words, hoping to be able to come back to it later.

For now, they would be okay on more stable grounds that were more linked to Tone. " I do. And.. I agree there is a lot of questions I wanted to ask. You already said a lot of them, actually. If I could…. I would ask… where did he learn he can't share more of himself? Did anyone teach him that? Who?" he returned his gaze to his hands, intertwined with each other on his lap. A distant look in his eyes. " And I suppose… the most important thing is… can you trust me enough to stay … even after you shared me more of yourself? That uglier .. hidden parts of you, would only let me accept you still? Do you…even feel like you deserve to have someone by your side?" His voice grew quiet, and small.

After a brief silent moment, he released his hands and looked at Ye-jun. Despite his furrowed brows and sharp features, he looked at the other boy surprisingly gentle. " Ye-Jun… how much.. do you want Tone to know that you want to be there for him? ". Despite the gentleness to it, there was a steady tone. As if trying to signal the other boy to answer from his heart. Despite all the logic or reasonable arguments that suggested he shouldn't. It was the question of ' want', not 'should'.

“True, when you are alone, it gives plenty of time to ponder about all kinds of stuff.” Ye-jun agreed once again. Unfortunately, while it did help him in many ways, there were certain downsides. “Which is a good thing as long as you don’t start overthinking…” Somehow, he had a feeling Sara knew this as well. Overthinking was a downright spiral that was especially hard to crawl out from. Thankfully, when he met Sara, he was thinking just enough before approaching the miserable-looking boy. The same way he didn’t overthink being around Tone despite the nature of their initial meeting. He was pretty grateful for that one. “Yeah…I’m glad too.”

The tougher conversation came afterwards, when the past was brought to light. Arguably, the Beauxbatons student didn’t share nearly as much as Sara but for a second meeting, it was still more than he would usually say. “It’s good that you don’t think that way anymore. That was clearly a bad crowd, you got yourself trapped in. Friendships fuelled by hate and negativity are just toxic. How could you ever trust someone like that with your problems if you only ever heard them talking badly about others?” He could see the same in the groups that enjoyed bringing him down. The only thing that held them together was their sick pleasure in torturing him. When he wasn’t available, they would step on each other as if they were enemies. He may have been alone against the world, but he honestly preferred that over calling someone like them his friends. “Trust me, good people will be eager to listen to you. That’s what real friendships are like. Sometimes it just takes time to find them.”

When Sara asked if he had a similar experience, Ye-jun paused for a moment. Surprisingly however, he didn’t feel as bothered by the question as he usually would. Since the other boy shared a bit of his own childhood with him, the Beauxbatons student felt like they were on an even ground rather than him simply being questioned. He still couldn’t bring himself to describe how things were for him back then but he didn’t want to stay quiet either. “No…my circumstances were a bit different from yours, but I guess there were similar aspects. Like…the kids around me were certainly not pleasant to be around.” He settled for a somewhat vague yet hopefully, still relatable reply. As terrible as it was at least those people pretended to like Sara and he left by choice. Ye-jun was not even given one.

Luckily, things were different now. Even when he was on his own most of the time, Ye-jun wasn’t as miserable as before because he himself had changed. “Yes, I suppose I am.” He nodded. “Don’t get me wrong, it took time to find an okay version of me and I still have my insecurities…all people do, but you just have to get to the point where you can say, alright this is good enough for me and whoever doesn’t like it, is not worth my time. It took some time to realize that but once I did, things started changing for the better. If you already acknowledged that you want to stay more true yourself and find the people who like that, then you are halfway there.” It was true, the process of building his confidence from zero to where he was now took all the willpower Ye-jun had but because he found the desire to do it, he managed. “Only improve the things that you want to improve. It’s hard and it’s never going to be perfect, but humans are not meant to be.”

For all he said about not being good listener, the Korean boy found himself at ease while talking to Sara. Even gave an advice here and there as if he had any right to do so. Funnily enough, it turned out that Sara himself was surprised by that development. Ye-jun just couldn’t fathom why. Aside from him being a bit awkward, the conversation between them flowed pretty seamlessly right from the start. “Well…yeah. Trust me, if I didn’t enjoy talking to you, I wouldn’t be here.” Ye-jun was nothing like Sara. He didn’t hurt people if he could avoid it but he certainly wouldn’t force himself into an uncomfortable situations either. “You should give yourself more credit.” He added with a shrug, honestly not seeing where the surprise came from. Clearly Sara hasn't met many decent people. Ye-jun could only hope that would change soon. He just needed a bit more courage.

“Selfish questions?...well I guess they tend to center around the word 'me' a lot, don't they?” The wizard wasn't trying to avoid the inquiry per se but he did feel like the ones playing in his head right now were meant for Tone's ears only. It didn't feel right to voice them out to another person. Maybe some other day… He was certainly glad to hear Sara was able to provide more clear answers to his own his question however. It meant he was not wrong and the Japanese boy did genuinely care about his schoolmate. “Those are some good questions actually. Maybe you should go for it, whenever you feel like time is right.” He assessed a subtle hint of approval in his voice. It didn't make sense of course. Why would Sara need even a sliver of approval from him? For all he knew, Tone liked the big guy better. At least he came across as far gentler individual than he himself was. Besides, they attended the same school, it would make sense if that was the case. For some reason, Ye-jun couldn't bring himself to think about that one too deeply.

“Ye-Jun… how much.. do you want Tone to know that you want to be there for him?” The Beauxbatons student was brought back from his musings once more. Another difficult question. One, he actually didn't ask himself before. Or perhaps he just didn't dare to. His hand absentmindedly found the little cat necklace, Tone gifted a few months ago. A protection charm of sorts. Protection from himself really. It never left his neck since. “Hmm...Enough to think about it, every time I see his face?” He paused then, hesitating. “Or…when I don't?” He actually cringed at himself there. Ugh...so how often was it? Did he not even realize how frequently his thoughts strayed that way? The more he thought about it, the more confused he became. “Maybe I should just shut up...” Ye-jun grumbled eventually. He was excellent at meaningless flirting, all right? This was too close to a mushy territory, he never cared to explore thus far and wasn't yet sure he wanted to.

"Aha.. yeah I'm.." he scratched the back of his neck nervously. Noting a lot of the sweat from earlier had now dried up from the cold morning air hitting it. " … To be honest.. I'm still working on that.. but I'm.. starting to learn", he nodded appreciating Ye jun agreeing with him about trying.

He took note of how Ye jun responded to him, appreciating every word even when Sara wouldn't have held it against him if he didn't. It felt nice… like his concerns were being considered and thought of. He hanged on to every word Ye jun said, feeling a small smile unconsiously growing on his face. "Hmnm.." he shyly replied, with a nod. Feeling happy being heard, even if he was trying to conceal his eagerness as the conversation flowed.

And then… it dimmed. He desperately clung onto the fact that Ye Jun still choose to share something, compared to none at all. Being able to nod and his smile fadded naturally, thinking how hard it might've been if the other didn't want to go further into detail. Even if it had prickled Sara's own chest a little. Was he getting too ahead of himself? Thinking that sharing would act as a good enough indication that Sara wanted to know more about Ye-jun? Has it been too much to offer when Ye-jun known a lot more about Sara than most people did even with just 2 short meetings? It was an odd position to be in. He was usually the one staying quiet and letting others tell him about themselves. How could anyone have been in this position and not feel so…unbalanced, was beyond him. Like a debt had been added and a gap had widened. Or was it just… all in his head?

No, stop it. This wasn't the time nor the place for such thinking. What mattered was that Sara had tried, even if it was not reciprocated in a away Sara hoped. That didn't mean he should catastophise their future interactions. They had a lot more good interactions despite it. They should..probably.. just stick to conversations about Tone and Ye-jun…yeah… if that was more comfortable for the other. " Thats quite tough to be around… especially at a young age..I hope that's not the case anymore.." he said slowly, his voice a little quieter as he stared back on the floor. " Um.... you don't have to go in detail if you don't want to. " he said a little honestly but softly as he met Ye-jun's eyes again. "L-like you said.. real friendships take time. And seems like you found it in Tone. Im glad for that"

His smile begun to find their way back again to his face when Ye-jun talked more about how he dealt with his insecurities. " That's a good perspective to live with" Sara agreed.

Sara wondered what might've happened if they both met each other at an earlier age. It was clear he was introspective at least about his own developed, and even if Sara didn't know the specific details - he told himself that what Ye-jun said was a hint to what he had to endure. Sara didnt find anything wrong with the other boy's words, only admiration. So he nodded. There was a quesiton he wanted to ask more. Like how long Ye-jun had known what and who he wanted to be. Or what it felt like when he knew it. Alas, Sara felt hesitant to voice it out. Uneasy to think of the possibility that asking Ye-jun even direct questions would be met with vague answers. It was too fresh before Sara was able to articulate his thoughts better to ask again.

He admittedly did feel a little better at being assured that Ye-jun liked talking to him. The earlier overthinking thoughts quieted down just slightly. Sara said so himself hasn't he? That Ye-jun was honest in his comments, even if he had not shared much about himself to Sara just yet. He took a deep breath, allowing himself to trust Ye-jun instead of the thoughts Sara's own insecurity was feeding him. " …Thank you, I appreciate that" he replied slowly.

Sara was thankful the conversation shifted to a more Tone based one. However, Sara looked a little confused at the others explanation of what a selfish question was. "…Were..some of my questions qualify as selfish? Are those… not good questions in the end?" he asked, though more curious in his tone than insecure. All his questions , especially the later ones involved 'me's, after all.

At the suggestion of telling Tone that, Sara paused, a flicked of sadness crossed his face. Which looked more like he was offended at Ye-jun even if that wasn't the case. " … I tried…but he.." he whispered, looking distantly at the memory. Visibly looking uncomfortable. " …. Ye-jun.. were you.. there .. at Hogsmead .. last year? October? When.. schools were visiting Hogwarts but made a small stop?" he asked, looking at Ye-jun again. His tone indicating that whatever happened, wasn't good. Still, there was a determined look in Sara's eyes. As if the information was important for Ye-jun to know. He didn't press on Ye-jun on the answer he gave to Sara's last question. Thinking they could talk about that later.

“Then that’s good enough. We are still young, this is precisely the time when we should learn. I doubt anybody expects us to have it all figured out already.” Ye-jun said in what he hoped was an encouraging manner. Considering the smile on Sara’s face, he could only assume he was doing a good job. It felt nice to be a positive influence for once. The Korean boy felt like he failed at doing so for quite some time now and was honestly starting to wonder if he was not capable of such thing. For all his protective tendencies, he always seemed to do more harm than good. Well...Perhaps there is hope for me yet…

Alas, the smile on the other boy's face didn’t last long. Ye-jun couldn’t help but wonder if it was because he was not as open with his past as Sara was. But didn’t he just say, he used to think oversharing was burdensome to other people? Somehow, the Beauxbatons student assumed he’d be more understanding. Not that he was ticked off by it. If anything, he actually thought it a good thing. It meant, Sara was indeed changing. Maybe this would serve as a good lesson to him. If not….well, it was not like he could do anything about it. He could see himself sharing more eventually but not today. Only time would tell where their unexpected connection would lead them. If anywhere at all.

“There will always be bad people slithering around but I’m better equipped to deal with them now.” Perhaps not in the best way, but he was. Grateful for being given a way out, Ye-jun smiled and opted not to elaborate any further. “Right. Tone and I are definitely working on that. I believe with patience, it will become a friendship worth waiting for.” He nodded in agreement. Truthfully, he was still worried if he was not more of a burden to the young boy than anything but he didn’t want to let those thoughts win without even trying.

Noting that at least his sincerity in talking about his life perspective helped Sara feel more at ease, Ye-jun decided to try and be a little bit more open in the future. Though he would never force himself to share things he was not ready to share, he would give him as much as he was willing to give. He still thought the Mahoutokoro student should occasionally be the one to share more but there was no reason to torture him every time they talked. An equal footing was always nice. People kept more and more secrets locked away the older they got…it would be hard for Sara to go on forming friendships if he was always the one listening. Sure, there were people that liked to run their mouths constantly but those were generally not a good friendship material. Not in the long run at least.

“There is nothing to thank me for. I’m just stating facts.” He shrugged. Technically speaking, if Sara wanted to thank somebody, he should thank himself. If Ye-jun enjoyed talking to him, it was thanks to his own merits. But that was something Sara would have to figure out for himself. These were the kind of realizations that made you grow the most.

“…Were..some of my questions qualify as selfish? Are those… not good questions in the end?” This boy. He looked like a thug but he was really just a harmless teddy bear, wasn’t he? Ye-jun nearly chuckled at the notion. Maybe it was a bit of an over exaggeration, but it rang true nonetheless. “Hmm…not necessarily. Some maybe, but most of them still seemed to have Tone’s best interest in mind. You are fine. Don’t overanalyze it too much.” Didn’t they just talk about overthinking? Then again, it’s not like you could just switch that thing off so he couldn’t really blame him.

“Hogsmead?” Ye-jun was just wondering about what might have happened during the conversation Sara mentioned. Clearly, it didn’t go well, which made Ye-jun nervous about his plan to talk to Tone one of these days. However, the sudden question about the tragic attack, swiftly interrupted his musings. The event was not necessarily specified but it didn’t need to be. Not in this case. “No,” he shook his head and looked at the other boy, curious as to why he decided to bring up this particular topic. “I heard and read about it of course, but I was lucky enough to avoid it.” Pausing for a moment, he recalled how many times he thought about the dead and injured people after reading the article. “I kind of wish I was though…” He knew it was arrogant of him to think he could have helped and he wouldn’t blame Sara if he thought it weird but that was how he felt. Even if it sounded wrong. “Why are you asking?”

The first few conversations earned a shy, almost bashful nod from the Mahoukotoro boy. They agreed on a lot of things already, Sara wasn't sure what else could be added. Besides being told that there was nothing to thank for made him a little shy. Making him feel a little better about Ye-jun choosing not to share about himself. Perhaps he had other reasons, maybe even similar reasons to why Sara still hesitated on sharing. Regardless, his apprecation was evident.

At the mention of overthinking, Sara let out a sheepish laugh. Looking away for a moment. " …. I.. I think they're fine questions to ask…" he admitted almost shyly. Hinting he never felt like his questions were bad. He did found it sweet that the other tried to assure him. " …. I think… people sometimes think good relationships have no room for selfishness. But.. maybe it can come from just the want for something. Like jealousy..for example.. I think. Um.. too much is bad.. but the existence of it.. means that you just.. care about someone enough to not want them to leave you, isn't it? It's natural and yet… people get ashamed of having it. " he said slowly. " … Um.. you can.. just ignore me. Maybe.. reconsider if these .. questions that you see as 'selfish' is .. too black and white. I.. believe there can be some good in being selfish with what you want sometimes. Especially if it comes from .. how much you care for him", Sara said all this slowly, his tone indicating that Ye-jun didn't have to reply if he wanted to. Besides, they moved on to tougher conversations.

Sara tensed, his hands covering his arms, as if suddenly feeling chills at the memory. His eyes furrowed angrily, as he tried his best to breathe, calming himself down enough to tell him more.

" …That day… one of.. the Mahoukotoro carriages.. was too close to the blast." his eyes widened with slight panic as he looked at Ye-jun. " N-no worries, Tone was fine! He was further away from the blast. He had enough courage to even go back to help. It was… scary .. people were… screaming..and shouting.. and there was ash and..-"

Sara felt a lump in his throat, making him cough a bit. He wouldn't be able to explain much more, since he was right in the middle of it. He recalled a point in time where just closing his eyes would bring him back to that time. Seeing burning wood around him, being crushed by them, the pain flowing through his body - he shakes his head, turning away. They were here to talk about Tone. Sara didnt think Ye-jun knowing that it was Sara that was in the blast would help anything. He had shared enough anyway.

" … it was bad. Everyone managed to get to safety in the end. But even when .. the fires are gone.. we were still… recovering. Its not .. something anyone really forgets. Especially when you're as close to the danger zone like Tone was. We.. all tried to recover in our own way. But Tone he… " Sara frowned. " … he .. acted like .. nothing happened. He was.. so .. cheery.. too cheery. I was worried and tried to ask him if he was okay but…."

He lowered his gaze, shaking his head. "… so many people died… and so many injured, but he.. said everything was fine." he looked back at Ye-jun, his gaze weak. " …..I.. wasn't the right person to ask him. But.. Ye-jun.. maybe you could.." Sara didn't finish his sentence, but the implication was clear as day.

Ye-jun nodded, satisfied with the fact that the Mahoukotoro student no longer doubted his intentions. In fact, it seemed he wasn’t all that concerned about it to begin with. Somehow, the Korean boy felt he was the one to blame here. It was probably his own statement that made Sara waver for a bit even if that wasn't his intention. “Right…a little bit of jealousy is not bad. As long as it stays within bearable limits, it has its place in a relationship.” He agreed absentmindedly before pausing and looking at the other boy. He was so focused on the subject of their conversation that he failed to realize the implications. Did Sara bring up jealousy because he thought it was relevant to Ye-jun’s unvoiced questions? But why? Tone was just a friend so there was no reason to be jealous. Well…I guess friends can be jealous too… But that was not it, was it? Ye-jun wasn’t exactly the type who’d get possessive of his friends and it was not a common thing in general. So, was he hinting at something more? The Beauxbatons student frowned, not really sure if this was the time or place to dissect such possibilities. In the end, he simply hummed to acknowledge Sara’s points but was unable to answer. This time not just because he didn’t want to, but because he didn’t have one.

Luckily, the conversation soon shifted in an entirely different direction. Well, luckily for his own mental well-being. Not so much for Tone’s or Sara’s for that matter. At least the topic wasn’t brought up by him, so he didn’t have to feel guilty about it. Ye-jun settled down, his mind much calmer now so he was able to listen without interrupting. He was sure the other boy brought up the event for a reason. After all, it was not something one would talk about out of the blue.

Fortunately, the Beauxbatons student, didn’t have to wait long to understand the point of the talk. He sat mostly calm and unmoving. The only indication of how unsettled he was, came in the form of a subtle clench of his jaw. He was not one for big reactions. That is also why he was often perceived as cold or unapproachable although in reality, that was hardly true. Ye-jun simply liked…no…needed to be in control. It did not mean he didn’t care. He truly did, especially when it came to his friends. You just had to understand him well enough to know that. Alas there were not many people cared enough to try. “I’m sorry you had to be there. Or anyone else for that matter.” It was not much but what else could he possibly say? He did not live through the trauma with them. What right did he have to give any grandiose speeches about bravery and survival? Or worse, telling those directly involved that everything would be okay? He’d leave that bullshit to the adults, thank you very much.

“To be honest, I always had a suspicion that Tone uses his happy go lucky attitude as some kind of defense mechanism. I just didn’t know it was…that… Like you said, he never really talks about it.” Ye-jun admitted with a sigh. “I mean, I’m sure he is not being dishonest with people per se, but nobody can be that happy all the time. Still, I didn’t want to probe based on my groundless assumptions. That could potentially end in disaster.” Because what if he was wrong? It would be akin to accusing his friend of being fake and that would hurt. Ye-jun had no intention of hurting Tone if he could help it.

The Korean boy ran a hand through his already messy hair. A mostly unconscious gesture born of frustration. “Thank you for telling me. It's good to know I wasn't completely misguided. And I’m glad to see someone is looking out for Tone. You are a good guy.” He paused then, looking at the Japanese boy, a hint of uncertainty in his eyes. “I’d like to help him. I really would but...if he didn’t tell you…he might not want to tell me either.” He cringed then, it was never a good feeling when one had to expose their own shortcomings. “Besides, I…don’t usually do a very good job when it comes to these things. I always seem to do or say the wrong thing when I try…” He was mostly speaking about all his attempts to get his cousin to talk. Sure, that girl was extremely difficult and breaking her walls sounded like an impossible task for anyone. But still, she was his family and he still didn’t manage to get her to open up. What were the chances that he’d be more successful with Tone? This was exactly the kind of thing where his strength and confidence meant nothing. Those two traits were like his sword and shield, without them, he felt…clumsy and unhelpful. How the hell was he supposed to win a battle when he was going in unarmed?

When Ye-jun agreed with him, Sara felt it was enough to just leave it at that but… there was just something. incomplete. Maybe he felt like .. there was this energy of things not being said, that was so familiar to him. Yet, it seemed like it was a shared… energy now. If that even made sense. After a while of debating, Sara spoke up. " Any… relationships.." he clarified, gently. Signalling it could be relatable to his relationship with Tone too. " And… selfishness too.. it's the same as jealousy.. I think"

Sara showed him a small appreciative smile, at his words about needing to go through that. " Hm… thank you."

"Dishonest… can be.. twisted very well.. with enough reason and technicalities.." he said the last part slowly as if he was hoping to get the word right. "The assumptions.. they seem to be a sign that you pay attention to him don't you? Like.. you tried. Tone has… convinced a lot of people that he's … just joyful. I can't be sure even I can confirm your theory.. but I'm just sharing what I've seen. And .. well.. he wasn't the first person I see like that. Sometimes .. its easier to hide behind a mask. Even if it stops you from feeling the sun on your face when it arrives.." Sara shaked his head. " A-anyway… I think.. its important to ask whats the difference between uh.. probing and just.. geting to know someone. Both can.. mean that you care about a person. What's important is how you .. react depending on what they react.. right? If you were probbing… that implies you .. were inconsiderate enough to keep asking and demanding.. and that would get anyone uncomfortable…" he paused for a moment before saying honestly. " I dont think you're the type to do that, Ye-jun"

" As are you.." he responded gently but sincerely to Ye jun's words about Sara being a good guy. And at the moment, Sara didn't feel like he was just saying that because he felt the need to compliment someone back. It was the accumulation of Sara's judgements on Ye-jun through this whole conversation, and it could be hinted through the lace of tenderness, gripped with the steadiness of someone stating a well known fact.

Sara quieted down his voice on the next words about why Tone trusted Ye-Jun more. " Ye-Jun… I've know him for so long… I've seen him with.. all sorts of friends… even the ones that usually come… on these hogwarts visits.. and summer camps.. and .. admittedly.. I've seen the way he seems to .. be around you. I.. might be wrong but.. theres something about you.. that he likes.. . Tone and I … we.. care for each other… but he has.. already crossed a line with me and I.. am not raedy to challenge the cross… honestly. Not just yet. Maybe it's because… he will still see me for the whole year, and don't want to risk us being awkward. But.. regardless.. I .. have other things I have to do first.. " he said a bit sadly, lowering his gaze slightly. " I.. don't mean to pressure you. This is.. just based of what I've seen.. but what I do know is that.. you'd never know if he really does want to tell you or not..unless you try. He didn't want to tell me but.. I'm glad he told me that.. and I tried. I have made it clear.. that I want to be there for him. And I am .. here.. when he is ready. I am.. satisfied with that"

Sara paused for a moment, staring at Ye-jun as if wondering what to say to his next words. " .. I understand.. I.. feel that way everyday.." he said a little quieter. " … what if you could… practice with me..?".Sara hadn't realised it by the time he said so but the sun had already begun to show its appereance. Leaving a glowy sunlit warm hue on the two boys if they cared to notice.

Ye-jun listened to Sara’s words without interrupting him. He was interested in his perspective, especially since it seemed they shared a lot of same ideas and opinions. Which was apparently going to be a reoccurring theme for today’s conversation. “Yeah…masks are surprisingly far more common than one would expect. Especially at our age.” After all, even the Korean boy himself put up a front to hide some of his ugliest sides. Apparently, it was hard to be completely honest and not just around strangers... As sad as it was, he knew from experience that family members often wore masks in front one another as well.

He couldn't help but chuckle, when the Mahoukotoro student once again saw more good in him than he deserved. It was nice of him but Ye-jun would never take credit for something he didn’t believe to be true. “You really do have a high opinion of me but I assure you, I’m not always tactful when it comes to people I care about.” To be fair, he didn’t want to make them uncomfortable or, God forbid, hurt them but sometimes he unconsciously crossed a line. He did that a lot with Eun-ji because he worried about her a lot and he couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t do the same with Tone. “I do my best not to of course but I won’t pretend I always do the right thing.” So yeah, he wanted to try talking to his friend, but he was inclined to thread carefully.

“You are not pressuring me.” Ye-jun reassured the other boy without much hesitation. “I guarantee you couldn’t make me do anything I do not want to... Very few people can actually.” It was one of the things he worked hard for as he grew up. Not letting others influence you was a difficult trait to acquire and one that didn’t always paint him in the best light. Still, it undoubtedly spared him many unpleasant situations so he couldn’t bring himself to regret it. “I already wanted to talk to him. You just gave me more reasons to do so.” Truly, if anything, the conversation with Sara gave him a much-needed push. Now that he wasn’t completely in the dark and knew the Mahoukotoro didn’t succeed in breaching Tone’s walls, he was much more determined to be the next one to give it a go. “I’ll see what I can do.”

“… what if you could… practice with me..?” The Beauxbatons student raised his eyebrows at the offer. Considering all that the Japanese boy just told him about himself, it was certainly unexpected. “Really? That seems…” he paused, considering how to best say it. “…rather uncharacteristic of you.” It could have come across as mocking if not for the genuine smile, gracing his face momentarily. If Sara were his friend, he’d actually be pretty proud of him right now. “Unless…you are just trying to prepare me for the worst case scenario and not actually answer my questions.” He teased, though he couldn’t say he was in any way fond of that idea. Hopefully that was not where this was going.

"Yeah.. haha.. I don't.. blame anyone for having them.. we do a lot of things to protect ourselves … don't we? And sometimes.. we don't do things at all…" he sighed, his features softening as if thinking of a particular thing. " I don't… really understand .. masks.. very well. I guess.. but I understand making choices to avoid being hurt. I think .. you can relate too…?" He asked softly. Tone and Ginyami might've been proficient in using masks. It was generally part of their culture that Sara felt foreign with.

Meanwhile… Sara and Ye-jun seemed to share a similar thing with doing nothing, to avoid getting hurt or making others uncomfortable. " To me… it's okay if it's an assumption… as long as you remember the only person that can really confirm that or not is Tone. Worse case scenario… you're wrong… " he let out a soft smile, " and best case scenario …. Tone sees you're trying to get to know him. And appreciates that you tried. I would if I was him. But if he .. pushes you away after that then.. " Sara shakes his head, sadly. " Then.. maybe Tone's not ready yet. But.. I think it's important to let others know you can be here when they need you"

Ye-jun then talked about Sara's high opinion of him, and Sara only primarily listened this time. " …I think the fact that you even wonder if you're doing the right thing is telling enough.. to me" Sara said honestly. It made Sara so appreciative of Ye-jun that he felt like one short meeting after a jog wasn't enough to express that properly. " You have good intentions, Ye-jun" he stated, softly almost shyly. But it was his truth. His tone indicated that he wasn't about to debate about why he thought that. Instead letting the conversation flow to another direction.

The way Sara's face immediately reacted when Ye-jun said he would be willing to try, was nothing but appreciation and almost a tender fondness, mixed with gratitude. For a split second, it was like his facial muscles relaxed to the point of showing briefly - his true smile. One that might've sent a few children crying and chills runing down spines. An uneasy one that didn't seem to truly suit his face. Nevertheless, it was how Sara felt. " I'm .. Im glad I could.. somehow help .. a little, thank you" he said, looking away shyly as he tried to relax his features on instinct.

"I - Is it?" Sara let out a nervoud laugh. " Well..I.. I dont know.." his hand reached up at the back of his neck to scratch it gently. Feeling a little flustered that Ye-jun remembered Sara's ramblings. " Well… I feel.. weird telling people about me. I'm always.. afraid they think I'm talking too much or .. care .. really. But you don't… give me the same anxiety. B-besides.. it's not something I never want to improve on.. . One day.. I hope to be able to .. find an easier time to be honest about .. myself and be able to tell people about me. That's.. how you make friends.. I think. Good ones." his features softened. " And.. if this helps you with Tone too.. I'll be glad to do it. Will you.. maybe try it out with me sometimes? You can get used to asking questions and I could.. get used to answering them honestly. Does that.. seem fair?"

Ye-jun hummed in agreement. Yes, it did seem like wearing masks helped some people feel protected. He could see how much Eun-ji relied on hers. Still, it was a double-edged sword at best. Faking and hiding helped avoid some ugly scenes but also often hidden hurts that were then left to fester underneath. It sounded…stifling. The Beauxbatons student never really bothered to figure out if it was worth it and apparently, neither did Sara. They were clearly both the types to endure rather than pretend. “Yeah, that I can relate to.” He confirmed, seeing no point in denying something pretty much everyone did in their own way. The two of them just happened to align in how. At least it seemed to be the case.

“Right…well, luckily I’m not someone to be easily scared off.” Ye-jun shrugged eventually. “I guess we’ll leave it to Tone to decide. If he wants to keep his mask on for a little bit longer, I won’t pry it away.” Would he be happy if his friend opened up to him willingly? Sure. But he could handle the sting of rejection if that didn’t happen immediately. This was not about him. He had no right to Tone’s secrets but that also didn’t mean he would give up after a first try. He could wait a little longer until he was ready. It’s not like he himself didn’t any secrets.

And with that, Ye-jun cemented his decision. Talking with Sara really was the push he needed. He was still nervous about the outcome but he was no longer hesitating about trying. “Why are you thanking me? It’s me who should thank you. I think I would be weighing my options all the way until graduation if I didn’t bump into you today.” Right, he could see it now. The two of them had much to learn from each other. Sara could definitely use some confidence boost and Ye-jun had to stop fearing getting to know people who might genuinely want to be his friends. He couldn’t’ help but wonder if this particular Mahoukotoro student might actually become one of those in the future. If so, then his idea to practice together didn’t seem so far-fetched.

“Hmm…that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.” The Korean boy mused quietly. Had it been a year ago, he wouldn’t have even entertained the offer but he was old enough now. He knew most discomfort could be conquered with a little bit of effort and letting someone into his personal bubble didn’t always end in tragedy. “Let’s give it a try sometime, shall we?” As he said this, Ye-jun stretched out his right hand with a smile. “Shake on it?” He offered.

And Sara did, which felt like a first step towards something. Whether it would turn out to be a good thing or a bad one, Ye-jun didn’t know, but for once, he thought he wouldn’t mind trying anyway. “Well then…It was a good talk.” The Beauxbatons student concluded as he slowly stood up, inspecting the sun that was now high in the sky but not suffocatingly hot just yet. “I’ll think I’ll go for a few more laps. I have a lot to think about. Don’t be a stranger, okay?” He patted the gentle giant on a shoulder as a form of friendly goodbye before jogging away, mind flooded with countless thoughts but body surprisingly light. A good talk indeed...
