Mahlioz's hair was yellow.

Bright, fluffy, light yellow. In the mirror in front of her, she looked like a baby chick. A very panicked looking baby chick with a wand in its hand. How in the ever loving world had she gotten to this point? And on her gods damned birthday of all days. The better question, perhaps, was how she was going to get out of this mess.

The only good news was that no one was in the lavatory as of now, an early Monday morning (if the bright yellow hair hadn't sold it, being up this early was definitely proof she was clinically insane). They had just wanted to change it up a little! Just a little. As a treat, a birthday gift to themselves. To finally prove to themselves that they were brave enough to do it, that this was a new phase of their life.

They had wanted slightly orange tips to their hair, that was it. It was getting rather long now, halfway down their neck, and long enough in the front for sweeping bangs if they wanted a chance at being able to see. It just needed to be the tips. They had their orange Muggle dye they'd bought last summer next to the sink in front of them, not yet opened, with the instructions facing them. It had said you needed lighter hair - to bleach it, if yours was darker, but Mahlioz didn't have bleach.

What they did have was magic. It was somewhat peculiar, deciding to use a mix of both magic and Muggle methods for this. Originally, she'd wanted only to do it the Muggle way, to prove a point, connect herself to her home. To prove it to Reltyl, who wasn't even here to see it. But when that turned out to be impossible without bleach, she figured it made sense. She didn't really believe in the universe being sentient, but it did seem like a sort of sign. They couldn't just... pretend they were fully Muggle, pretend they could be who Reltyl wanted them to be. They were quite literally a mix of both worlds. And what better way to show it?

Well, possibly there were better ways. Because the Crinus Muto they were so relying on seemed to have decided it wasn't going to take into consideration their wishes. That, or they really sucked at casting, which was... plausible. Ara would say it's the influence of the old man's failed confringos. But as much as they hoped (and expected) it would just be the tips of their hair that changed color, the spell shifted the entirety of their hair to a magnificent, horrible bright neon bleach yellow.

All she could do was stare in absolute, total horror at what she had done. Objectively, there were some obvious fixes - dying it back to dark brown was the main one, or literally just casting Finite Incantatem - but it seemed her mind was in too much shock to register any of them. In general, handling new situations wasn't exactly her forte. And even so, how was she supposed to get her original plan done? Were orange tips just impossible?

Gods, why did everything have to go wrong, she couldn't even cast a freaking spell?! What a way to begin her birthday. It wasn't like she was even surprised. At least couldn't get worse than this - well, that couldn't be true, she was in Hogwarts, there was always something else to go wrong. What in Merlin's name was she going to do? Go to class with a blinding sun as hair? Looking like that one death eater guy, what was his name - something to do with dragons. Oh gods, she was so screwed.

"What the fuck is that mop on your head?"

That was what people in the washroom and a meter or so out would hear in a very judgemental yet worried tone. Might've been harsh but can you really blame her?

It was a usual Monday, a few days after Ara's own birthday. She went out early from the dorms. It would be a while till breakfast started so she went around the castle and wound up near the dueling room—locked as expected of anyone capable.

At the corner of her eye, she saw a glimpse of near sunlight of how bright it was. It was eye burning hair. But who in the castle had the guts to make it that obnoxious color? Not anyone she did know. So of course, she checked where she saw that god awful color. The Lavatory.

"What the fuck is that mop on your head?" was the first thing that came out of her mouth when she saw the unexpected—Mahlioz and their new... hairdo. It was horrendous to say the least, and Ara was ready to punch whoever did that to her dear friend's gorgeous hair.

She really did owe it to them for that haircut a few months ago, sure, she had it trimmed here and there, along with a perm but it largely stayed the same.

"Who did... this to you?" she asked like one of those male alpha CEOs in those romance novels girls would swoon about, but more Ara of course (disgusted).
