“It’s not that obvious,” She smiled at Rose. “You just happened to be my friend,” She turned her head back to the Great Lake, laughing softly to herself. It wasn’t hard for her to figure it out because Rose was her best friend. When you knew someone enough to read their personality, it wasn’t hard for a person to notice if there was a small change in them.
Skylar paused a bit while she looked at the stars. “If we all are the stars, you, me, and that boy are a part of the Orion belt.” She pointed her finger and painted in the air, showing an example to her friend. “Among all those, I see you’re the closest, and that boy is staying next to you.” This part she meant that Rose, her and the boy were in the same year and classmates. “We had our clear position to be and go in the same direction.” Her metaphors emphasized they’re learning in different class sometime, but their goal to graduate from the school was the same.
“But one day, your position changed a bit closer to the next star that wasn’t me, how can I not notice that?” She lowered her hand and turned to Rose again, with a genuine gaze. “That’s the reason why I asked you that question.” A tug from her lips never faded. It form to a brightest smile she ever expressed. She looked at Rose, who decided to explain more about her feelings.
It's silly but when you have someone who wants to know you is curious about you encourage you and make you feel that you can trust this person it's hard not to feel shaken up. Even more when you enjoy it and appreciate this person.
Even though what the girl said was the same thing she had with her, but Rose seemed like she didn’t know what the different. Skylar didn’t have a romantic life to experience either, but she was sure she could give some advice for her friend, more or less, hoping it could help the girl figure it out.
“Our relationship was like that, too, and we bonded to be best friends.” She frowned. “But I’m sure your feelings toward him are different. Why don’t you try to find what was extraordinary in the bond you had with him?” She grabbed her friend's hand and placed it on the girl’s chest. “When I gave you courage for something you felt happy, and when he gave you, what do you feel?” The way Skylar told her was clear. She hoped that Rose would understand herself feeling and she could answer that question someday.
After the long silence, she paused. It was enough for her to breathe and control her emotions. She glanced at the moonlight on the ice glass, her eyes reflecting her past clearly.
“I wasn’t alone at first. My parents used to teach me things and plant with me. But after I got my first magic, everything went down.” Her chin was up to the moon with its light sparkle in gray eyes. “My family gathered everyone to celebrate how I grew the plant with my accidental magic. I was so happy, like I wasn’t as cheerful as my sisters, but at least they actually saw me as an Astor.”
The snow started to fall slowly as she extended her hand to touch them, before she added. “I shouldn’t have said it that day. I said…” Her eyes watered up as she paused. “If I can grow the plant when I'm scared, if I'm scared of Baxter, is it gonna grow through him? I asked that out of curiosity, but the look in their eyes was like they saw an evil living among them.”
Skylar wiped her tears a bit and controlled her overwhelmed feeling. “After that day, everyone seemed to keep their distance from me, and even left me in the house alone most of the time.”

Rose felt relieved as she slightly smiled while looking down when she heard Skylar telling her it wasn't obvious. It reassured her. Of course Skylar may have noticed since she was her best friend. Although they hadn't been for long and were still getting to know each other Rose could tell they already could read each other quite easily as if they had known each other for years. So there was nothing surprising in Skylar's words. Then her friend started to explain Rose's situation using a metaphor with the stars as Rose looked back at the sky. As she was listening to Skylar's explanation she found it beautiful and really touchy in her choice of words. Rose couldn't help but smile. Skylar could truly read her and understood when something was different with her. Rose was glad to have such a friend who could notice even the smallest changes. That was one of the reason Skylar was her best friend too. And she could feel how her friend was cherishing and caring for her.
After Rose explained more about her feelings Skylar pointed something out Rose didn't really think of before.
"What's extraordinary with him?" she repeated in a whisper as she looked at Skylar wondering about these words while her friend took her hand to put it on her chest where her heart was.
When Skylar asked Rose what she was feeling when the boy gave her the same thing Skylar gave her she put her hand over her friends.
She looked into Skylar's eyes as she remembered feeling happy with her best friend as the latter did state and with him?
"Happiness too." she said quietly with a small smile before pursuing as she closed her eyes to better recalling the feeling "Safety, trust, thrill, nervousness but good one." she opened her eyes again looked at the sky "And heart racing like it is going to explode. All my body was feeling on alert and losing its composure as my mind was getting blurry." she added.
Rose was putting clearer words on her feelings. It was getting easier maybe for her to better understand thanks to Skylar who appeared to know a bit what she was actually feeling. Rose felt glad as she turned towards her once more.
"Thank you Skylar." she simply said flashing her a smile.
Then a silence remained between the two girls before Skylar started to speak again. She was telling about her past at home and the reason she was feeling lonely. Rose knew it was quite important to Skylar so she was giving her all the time she needed and wanted to tell her. Although she was touched Skylar was trusting her enough to talk about it now. Rose looked at her friend to reassure her and to encourage her. She wanted her best friend to know she was there for her and wouldn't judge her. When Skylar was talking Rose couldn't help but smile a bit when she heard how Skylar was proud to be considered as a real Astor as she said and to have her first magic. However what was coming next made Skylar's eyes getting watery as Rose's smile dropped. She felt so hurt for her friend and sad at the same time.
Rose felt something wet running down her cheeks. Unconsciously she was crying moved by Skylar's story. She put her arm around her friend she saw wiping her tears not really knowing what to tell. Skylar couldn't be blamed she was a child asking a genuine question. To Rose it didn't justify the rejection Skylar had known.
"You haven't done anything bad or wrong Skylar." she reassured her friend "You just asked a question as children can do." she pursued before pausing thinking of how Skylar may think of herself as an evil. Rose frowned at this thought.
"Whatever anyone had told you or you are thinking you are far away from being an evil. Don't ever think of you this way." Rose said on a serious tone parting away from her friend as her light green eyes were showing compassion hurt and sincerity towards her best friend she knew was and has been hurt by this.
Then Rose took a deep breath.
"To me you have become one of the most important person in my life. You and I created an unexpected bond in such a short time and so deep that it was hard to believe it to be true. But I'm glad about it. I couldn't have better best friend than you. If you think yourself as an evil then you're the angel version of it. To me that's what you are an angel who came to my life to light it up." Rose smiled to her friend as she was fighting against some tears which wanted to show up.
In order to that she quickly added on a teasing tone with a bit of mischief in her eyes.
"Although we can be quite malicious together." she chuckled hoping to change the atmosphere a bit for it not to become overly emotional nor a bowl of tears as it was not the purpose of this evening.

Tears streamed down her face, but they didn’t come from sadness. It was a relief. Skylar couldn’t help but let out all her emotions to the cold wind. She sobbed with one hand on her chest, like something that was tightly inside finally loosening up.
The way Rose had been comforting her was kind and genuine, faintly touching her heart. It was all she wanted to hear after all this time. “I have been waiting for that word my entire life.” Her eyes were swollen full with tears, and her voice hitched with trembling sound. “I wanted someone to say that I had done nothing wrong.” She continued crying.
Skylar slowly bent her head to a small shoulder beside her. She embraced her friend softly as she craved the warmth. As Rose smiled and began to use her teasing tone to cheer her up. She started to laugh and wiped her tears with her sleeve. “Why do I always cry in front of you?” She giggled. “Next time we meet, please don’t make me lose my cool again.” She chuckled.
Skylar moved closer to Rose a little more and adjusted their blanket. Her nose turned red as she kept sniffing and breathing uncomfortably. She looked at the stars, but falling snow started to interrupt her scenery. She exhaled and glanced at her friend, looking like still enjoying the night sky. She then let out a gentle smile. “Thank you, Rose. For being here with me. This was my first wonderful stargazing ever.”
She held the girl’s hand, slowly sharing her warmth. Then, she looked up to the sky once more, admiring the beautiful nature and the memorable moment with her friend. The atmosphere appeared quiet with a light smell of trees and leaves softly waved through the cold wind. The constellation stayed still as clear as the naked eye could see. Only a pitiful feeling, fading and drowning away.
“This is quite late now. Shall we go back inside?”

At the sight of her best friend crying although it was not from sadness but rather happiness Rose felt her eyes getting watery as she gently smiled to Skylar who said to Rose she had been waiting to hear that word her entire life. Rose was far to imagine how Skylar must have felt according to her tears that couldn't stop flowing and how happy she was. Thankfully Rose succeeded not to let tears rolling down her cheeks. Otherwise like last time they would be both crying like there is no tomorrow.
Rose embraced back Skylar to help her calming down a bit as she laughed at Rose's teasing which had worked the way Rose wanted since Skylar wiped her tears and laughed back.
"I suppose we let each other true self showing." she smiled at her friend.
"That means the trust between us is strong enough to let our true emotions showing up." Rose's eyes turned to the starry sky.
It was true. When someone can feel and show their emotions to a friend it means how much of trust there is. To Rose that is also what a true friendship is and she was glad between Skylar and her their friendship was like this. Obviously that was another reason they had become best friends.
Rose laughed at Skylar's request as she could remember how the girl wanted to remain to others.
"I will try not to." she said jokingly before turning to her best friend.
"Although you don't have to in front of me. You are always cool!" light green eyes were sparkling full of sincerity and admiration for her friend.
Rose was truly admiring her best friend. She was pretty, funny and overall amazing in everything she was doing. She knew so many things and her love for nature was clearly seen in her knowledge. Having such knowledge on something at a young age was indeed admirable. Her eyes were full of esteem for her best friend. Rose looked back at the sky when small white snowflakes started to fall in front of her eyes. Rose's face lighted up as a wider smile appeared on her lips. Skylar's words of thanks made Rose looking back at her and she just smiled as answer happy her friend appreciated this evening.
Rose held Skylar's hand tighter.
"Yes I think we should. Let's go!" she stood up ready to fold her blanket.
Rose was feeling peaceful even more than when she arrived. It was a wonderful evening and time spent with her best friend she hoped a lot more were going to be.
