A Spectacle

The game that would define which house has won the cup for the year, the stadium was packed with interested onlookers. This would be the Gryffindor v Slytherin game and while Gryffindor might be considered the underdogs in this game, that House is no stranger to making legendary comebacks. There would be something different about this game of course, it was being narrated by Lazarus Plott rather than Solomon Lear. Players from both houses would filter out onto the field, the game was about to start!
It was a sunny, warm day. The sort of day where walking a game outdoors would actually be pleasant. A long sleeved shirt was enough to fend off the chill of the day, those that were warm blooded did not even require that. After the past few months, between Potter's conviction, an army of spiders attacking Slytherin while they slept, as well as seemingly random acts of violence, what this school was in sore need of was a nice game of Quidditch.
If Slytherin wins this game, they would be a contender for the Quidditch cup this year. If they lose, it is likely that Huffleouff or Ravenclaw would get away with it this year. Fans for all of these outcomes would be sitting in the stands...
This is a spectator thread for users that are not in the Gryffindor v Slytherin Quidditch game but wish to in character watch the game. When you spectate, you cannot intervene in the game that is ongoing but you can react to the game, interface with other players in this thread and simply enjoy yourselves.

She was going all-out. Quidditch has always been important to Ruthie, who often espoused that 'Quidditch is Life,' but today she had two good friends on the pitch, one of whom had quite literally saved her life. There was no negotiation, no hesitation: Gryffindor would win if she had anything to say about it.
And she would dress the part. Gris had lent her a Gryffindor scarf, which she wrapped around her neck in place of her own house's. But that wasn't enough. Ruthie was a go-big-or-go-home kind of person, and this was go-big-or-go-home moment. For the past few days, she had taken the left over materials and remnant fabric from the Women's Day event and tried to weave it into some kind of coherent entity. It was a little messy, not a masterpiece, but it was clear what she had achieved: a lion hat. It was a kind of orange-tan in color with two beady eyes, and would stick out slightly over the top of her head. The mane was tan, brown and reddish in color, all made of stripes of left-over paper and fabric.
It was proudly donning these two items that she made her way down to the pitch on what was a surprisingly sunny day. Scotland did not have very many of those, but she took it as a good omen for what was to come in this match. She stepped confidently through the stands, aware that she would be extremely noticeable with her hat, but she didn't care--she was here for her friends and that was what was important. Speaking of friends, she hoped Thora didn't mind her cheering for Gryffindor. She still loved the Slytherin all the same, but she had to be decisive here so lion hat it was.
It was still early and there didn't seem to be too busy quite yet so she was able to get a good seat on the Gryffindor side of the pitch. About five rows up, she felt as though she was in a great position to watch everything and cheer people on. As the teams erupted onto the pitch, she kept a keen eye for those she knew. Gris was immediately recognizable by her signature space bun hairstyle, and Charlie--well, you can't see an accent--but he was still noticeable as the only blonde among the three Gryffindor Chaser boys. "GO GET 'EM GRIS!! COME ON CHARLIE, GRAB THAT QUAFFLE!" she called out to them, cupping her hands together to help the sound travel faster. Hopefully, they would hear, but she also knew how difficult it was at times to hear up in the sky.
As she there, she started to look for Lark, who had mentioned she would also be coming down to the match. Hopefully, her best friend would be able to recognize her. Admittedly, her blonde curls started to blend with the mane of her hat in a surprisingly symbiotic kind of way. Crossing, her legs, she took out a package of Fizzing Whizzbees from her robe pocket. It wouldn't be the same as flying, but hovering slightly while watching at key moments, could be helpful to get a better view. She also knew she was likely to get hungry--Quidditch viewing was serious business. So she sat the bag down next to her and adjusted the strings of the hat under her neck before she let out her next bellow: "LET'S GO GRYFFINDOR!" Her eyes remained fastened on the players, waiting for that moment when it would all begin.

Xailah and Meenauh were truly a sight to behold. Who would have ever though a seemingly normal child, would grow to become friends with a feared freak? No one. No one would have thought such a thing would- or could happen. Despite their differences, they were a good balance for one another. Meenauh kept the metamorph in line- to some degree. Xailah pushed the younger lioness to be free. It was nice considering her experiences from past friends- or rather lack of friends.
"The weather is rather disgusting today, don't you think, Meena?" She said in a detesting hum. Xailah was only here because of her prefect duties. Someone needed to be around to give the spectators a good slap, for when they got too into the game. It just so happened she had nothing planned on this day, so she was put on the job- otherwise she would not be here. The metamorph quite frankly didn't care much for Quidditch, or who was playing. And judging by her attire, that much was obvious.
The lioness looked like she was off to see the Horse Races, not a Quidditch game. She was decorated in no house colors; sticking to a mainly greyscale theme. Today she did not stray away from her usual Victorian attire. She donned a Victorian riding dress, and a very charming Equestrienne top hat. In one gloved hand, she escorted a small woven basket, that carried some individually wrapped snacks, and a large grey cat- not the most sanitary thing, but it wasn't like she was going to a class on food safety. In the other hand, she sported a sleek parasol.
It wasn't as grand, or as memorable as her umbrella, but the parasol would suffice until she got around to picking out a new umbrella. She still couldn't believe the thing broke, after having it for three good years. She couldn't get over it. She still had the two broken halves laying around somewhere. "You didn't have to accompany me. These games can be quite boring." She admitted, glossing over a couple of players, with her golden, feline gaze. "This is a nice ssspot, yes?" She added, gesturing to an empty spot on the stands.

Today was one of the most eventful days of the year, the Quidditch Finals. Out of all the matches throughout the year, this was to be the most defined. It was anyone's match as people were left deciding on the underdogs that were Gryffindor or the Slytherin All week talks of who was going to win lingered in the great hall some of his fellow Ravenclaws wanting Gryffindor or Slytherin to win. Some were in support mostly of people they had a friend in one of those houses making it a little easier to support.
Alan had never taken an interest in Quidditch until he recently joined the Ravenclaw team, But with the final match of the year being the talk throughout the week Alan couldn't help but hop on the bandwagon. Along with his fellow students on the way to the Quidditch pitch. Alan decided to support the Gryffindors sporting his mothers old Gryffindor scarf and even created a small banner to hold up to show his support. Another reason he came aside from the amount of hype that was built over the coming weeks was for his friend Griseldis who played on the Gryffindor team. Despite his reservations about being a crowded space, Alan pushed himself to be there ignoring everything else as the young lad wanted to cheer for his friend. Alan found himself in the Gryffindor side of the pitch going up as high as he could to get a good view of the match.
This was to be Alans first time actually attending a match not sure what it's like but the excitement throughout the week had rubbed off on the Ravenclaw. Carrying his sign, he attached to a stick as he was making his way to a spot he chanted along with the crowd "GO-GO GRYFFINDOR! BITE DOWN ON THOSE SNAKES!" Alan shook his head in amusement, wondering what came over him. His thoughts were quickly shut out as people were pushing and moving around him to which the young lad apologised "Sorry, Sorry." Alan spotted a familiar face amongst the crowd's someone he grew to call a friend was Ruthie Greer she made herself stand out with the lion hat that sat on top of her head. Wanting to surprise he went behind the first year and tapped her on the shoulder "Ruthie! You hear to support too!?"
Immediately looking up Alan got a look of all the players taking their positions quickly the young lad recognised his best friend Gris her buns were always so difficult to miss, Not sure if she could hear or see the young lad Alan chanted "GRIS! YOU CAN DO IT! SHOW THAT INNER LION AND BEAT THESE SNAKES! WOO!" by the end of his chanted the young lad coughed a bit looking over to Ruthie "S-Sorry about that I-I-I do not know what came over me" Alan was a little red-faced but didn't look way keeping an eye on the pitch as well as his friend.his

Lark had been anxiously waiting for the Gryffindor and Slytherin game all week. There had been quite a bit of chatter among her peers about who would win and plenty of talk between her friends at which side they would be cheering for today. Typically Lark would still go emblazoned in her Ravenclaw colors but today was different. Today she had spent a hefty amount of time preparing herself for the lion cheering section. It also meant she had been able to practice some more at shifting the color of her hair and tint of her eyes as well as pulling out some face paints one of the Muggleborn students had shared with others for the Quidditch games. Even Ruthie had gone all out, inspiring Lark to do just the same. The hat her friend had made really was eye-catching and certainly was impressive!
Keeping the hat in mind, Lark had rushed to the pitch with her own lion pride painted on her face, her friend AJ's scarf hugging her neck. She had rummaged through her clothes and found a burgundy jumper to wear as well. Scrambling in and out of the crowd, Lark's golden eyes set upon Ruthie's hat. "Ru!" She called out her voice getting lost with a bought of cheering that erupted from the stands as the teams flew out onto the pitch. Lark stumbled over a disgruntled looking fifth year as she gave a cheer along with the crowd catching sight of Gris zooming around the field. Squinting at the players she tried to find AJ but again almost stumbled over a second victim.
"Sorry! Sorry...!" Lark apologized and tucked strands of blazing red hair behind her ears. If she was going to wear red and gold she may as well make her hair match. Another couple of steps up and the young Ravenclaw finally made it to her best friend. "Sorry I'm late! I gottah bit caught up with the face paint." Lark hugged her friend gently and then looked towards the boy who had been talking with her. She recognized him from the team but hadn't had a chance to speak with him much. "Sittin' with us?" Lark flashed the boy a smile and patted the bench where they stood. "Yeh see Charlie yet flyin'round? Can't hardly see whose who now that I realize what a game looks like up here compared ta on tha field." This was probably only her second game she had sat in the stands or spectated.

Slowly but surely, the stands started to fill in and it was feeling like it should--like a match was to begin. With this came a small tap on her shoulder. She turned around swiftly to see who it was while keeping one hand on the snout of her lion hat. She didn't want to accidentally hit anyone in the face with it. "Alan!" she greeted him, excited to see one of her newest friends out here. "Yeah, I'm here for Gryffindor. Gotta support Gris!" she explained, assuming he was also here for their shared friend, who incidentally was in a new role as Beater rather than Chaser.
Soon enough, they were joined by another lion-for-the-day; her best friend Lark had taken it upon herself to put on some very elaborate face paint. "Lark, you made it!" she called, "Your face--it looks amazing! How did you do that?" While not very creative herself, Ruthie was always impressed by that of others, especially when done well.
Quickly, she reached in for a hug, and then nodded to offer the metamorphous a seat. When Lark asked if Alan was sitting with them, the blonde immediately intervened, wanting to unite her two friends. "Yes, he is! This is Alan. He's a second year. I met him in the common room a few days ago. I hope you brought a few of your gran's pastries, Alan!" she chuckled, "but if not, I've got Fizzing Whisbees." With her left hand, she reached over to extend the bag and offer it to each of them. Then, she knew she had to get to the other half of the introductions. "And this is Lark. She's in my year, and she just got moved up to first string Keeper for us." Hopefully Lark wouldn't mind the compliment, but it was a rather exciting endeavor and she was excited to see her play.
It was while she was sharing her snacks that she noticed Alan's colorful poster. "Ohh, that's great," she commented, "I bet Gris will be able to see that from the sky. It's so bold!" And speaking of people in the sky, Lark was looking for players too, including another one she knew. "Yeah, right there!" she pointed with her index finger, "You can tell from his hair." Probably also anything he said, but that was harder to notice down here. As she she was scanning the sky in answer to Lark, she noticed someone else nearby: the girl from the Lake. From her positioning, she didn't look like a starter, but Ruthie offered a smile in any case. So, that made three people for Gryffindor she was routing for. That was worth the lion hat on her head for sure.

The stands were definitely starting to get cluttered with spectators as the match was getting ready to start. Alan finally caught a look of the lion hat that was a top of his new friend Ruthie having to back away slightly to avoid the snout chuckling lightly excitedly replying "That's why I'm here to Ru! Have to show Gris we support her!" Before Alan could say any more, another fellow Ravenclaw came greeting his new friend Ruthie. The young lad was amazed by the support Lark was showing off as the facepaint was something new to him having not attended many matches before in his life. Alan intrigued by it he was caught in his interest as the boy watches Ru and Lark exchange pleasantries pondering if he to should have done more than just a sign for his friend. His inner thoughts were cut off by Lark as he shook his head quickly replying with a smile "O-Oh, yes, of course, I'm Alan by the way nice to meet you." Feeling a little awkward realising Ru had just introduced him, he sat on the empty space patted down for him as he dumped his rucksack between his legs.
Alan then replied, pulling out a box that smelled of freshly baked goods with a grin "Of course, what better way to enjoy a match than with some quality food hmm?" Opening the small container was an assortment of sweets ranging from samples of pumpkin pasties, strawberry flavoured tarts and fudge mixed with marshmallows and chocolate, Alan offered the pair to have a look then said to Lark "Do you want some too? I brought it to share" Assuming the pair was digging into his delectable desserts Alan was glad to hear he wasn't the only one to bring food this time. Hearing about how Lark was on the quidditch team as a keeper he said: "That's amazing I also applied to be second string keeper recently myself, so that means we'll be seeing each other in training I hope."
The young lad maintained his smile towards the two girls Ru made a compliment about his makeshift poster "Well I wanted to stand out Ru and plus she needs to know her best friend is here to cheer for her". Standing up as more players were taking their positions, he shouted while holding up the sign. However, unlikely wanted to get Griseldis attention "Go Gryffindor! Go, Gris!" Sitting back down he looked over towards the pair "I can't wait to start practising I don't know why but I felt quidditch was a good idea for me, I used to play football back when I used to go to muggle school, so hopefully, this will be a bright idea for me." Alan seemed enthused about being apart of the Quidditch team himself.

She truly actually genuinely believed that she would never step a toe in the Quidditch area during her whole time at Hogwarts. She assumed a lot of things would happen or not happen during her whole time at Hogwarts. But even a very determined point of view may bend and break if the applied force is too much to oppose.
So there she was, walking along the benches in the Quidditch cheering pitch among lots of students, who came to cheer for Gryffindor. She believed in Gryffindor in general, but she couldn't believe she was attending a Quidditch match. Not that she disliked sport in general (maybe just a little), she put physical activity to a certain level of importance in order to stay healthy. She just couldn't 'approve' Quidditch rules from the game design perspective. Not that she was ever asked or she ever shared her point of view (because why would she voluntarily start a polemic about the topic she was pretty much disinterested in). The crowd wasn't specifically of Gryffindor origin. She recognised a few faces from other houses, which injected pretty pleasant feelings of proudness for her pride.
Xailah had her prefect duties. And Meenauh didn't want to stay alone. Or to leave Xailah alone. Anyway, she had to go out more often, so it was a nice opportunity. Meenauh couldn't but notice how Xailah's attire was completely off against the cheering crowd of students, but damn the girl had style. Xailah was much more feminine, compared to Meenauh. Though Meenauh did start to wear more dresses and letting her hair down since the previous year's ball, she was still more comfortable with more robe-ish kind of clothes. She wished she could borrow some muliebrity from her friend.
"And you thought I could allow you to stay alone in this boredom? Anyway, I have the best cure against it," she pulled a book from her bag, a book specifically prepared for the occasion — "Brooms Through the Ages", a sort of detailed history of brooms since invention until nowadays. And then Xailah found a spot to settle in.
So there she was. In a comfortable (to some extent) spot with her friend and the most precious thing ever invented — a book. Her mind isolation skills came handy when she had to concentrate while being in a place that was hard to concentrate in. The book would save her in case Xailah would need to wander around doing her duties of the prefect.

Everything so far was going so quickly for Alan, before the match started to when the young lad saw his friend Ruthie as well as his fellow teammate Lark. Everything seemed to be going well as the young lad watched his friend Griseldis getting into position. Alan was more than prepared to cheer for his best friend who he cares about profoundly being someone who has been with the boy since first climbing aboard the Hogwarts Express. As Alan was chatting is his fellow Ravenclaws the sound of cheering blocked out the chatter between the three having to raise his voice a little to talk wasn't even enough.
As soon as the call for the match to start hit the players. Nothing could have prepared Alan for what was to happen as it moved so fast. The game was so fast-paced for Alan to keep up with as the intensity of the match lingered causing further cheering for the respected teams. Holding his sign to support Gryffindor all it took was a loud crack from the bludger to quickly change everything.
Alan was dumbfounded the moment Griseldis was struck by the bludger the feeling didn't hit the young lad until his friend hit the ground from the look of shock to red hot anger almost wanting to jump down and check on his friend, Alan knew he could not. Alans face if one were to notice was turning red frowning as he sat back down clenching to his poster as he began breathing heavily, just barely making out Griseldis assuming she was unconscious on the heated ground.
Alan profoundly disliked the outcome, trying to rationalise muttering. However, it seemed to make the Ravenclaw shake some more "These things happen, she's going to be ok, Bloody Slytherin Beater, no no no All these things happen to relax." Alan kept his gaze as best he could, refusing to look away from the ground where his friend fell.

Sitting with Lark and Alan to support Gryffindor felt like coming home. Despite all she had been through this year at Hogwarts, it felt like she had found her place and indeed, a solid group of friends. In addition to friendship, Alan had brought with him some sweets. She should have expected as much from their run-in in the Common Room. Eyeing the sweets, Ru reached her arm across and pulled out a strawberry. "Mhhhh," she sighed as she bit into it. "These have to be your Nan's," she said, associating this level of quality with what she had gotten before.
As Alan cheered, Ru stood up to join in, "GO GO GRYFFINDOR!" Hopefully, they could hear all this from up in the air. Alan seemed a little nervous about being second string. "I'm sure you'll be fine," she tried to calm him with a smile, "And Lark can help. I've been practicing with her. Maybe you can join us one afternoon?" Lark had improved so much over their sessions, and Ruthie had high hopes that Alan would gain skill and confidence in the same way.
But soon the match unfolded and it was bloodier than perhaps she had ever seen in these opening minutes. Even the Slytherin seeker had blatched! This was intense. She reached for another pastry as the match went on, but she nearly dropped it when she saw her close friend Gris get targeted by a beater. "No, no, MOVE GRIS!" she shouted as she watched the trajectory of the bludger. But it was too late. Erin's bludger hit her with incredible force, knocking her clear off her broom. Ruthie could only wince as she watched the hero girl fall. Come on, come on, she thought as she scanned the field for a saver. Someone had to notice the second year falling.
And someone did. One of the newer chasers Ruthie didn't recognize dived down, but as Gris was falling so did it seem were two others, and one looked like their seeker Ru recalled from her own match against Gryffindor. She blinked in disbelief, knowing what was likely to happen: they had to save the seeker. And sure enough soon, Gris was on the ground. "Damn it," she let out, in her frustration. This was not going well. Meanwhile, it looked like one of her companion, Alan, was also disturbed. From his speech, it looked like he was trying to calm himself down. "We'll go to the hospital wing," she informed him, "I mean, you could probably go now if you wanted." Ruthie wanted to stay as she still had friends on the field, but she wouldn't stop Alan if he wanted to head there right away. He did seem particularly upset. Ru looked to Lark to see if she had noticed. Meanwhile, she reached for another pastry--if Alan was leaving, she was sure to sneak another.
