Peeking around the corner, Avis grinned at the frazzled Sabrina trying to "catch up". That had been the plan, get the girl so absurdly frazzled that she couldn't imagine Avis had done anything but hop on a broom and bolt. She was slightly impressive, however, that Sabrina managed to get her broom up and mounted all while running. Once she got round a corner and Avis was sure she wouldn't be caught, she sprinted down the hall, thankful that her flats slapped against the ground with barely a whisper. All things considered, they were amazing flats. Soft, quiet, and black.

Sabrina would not pass her on the way, Avis was behind her the entire time. The goal wasn't winning anymore, no, the goal had gotten much more...more. Halfway to the owlery, still holding the broom, Avis paused in front of an cracked open window. It was a cold, windy night, perfect. With a quick glance around, she chucked the broom out into the night. It would be fine, probably. Leaning outside the window, she took a breath of cold, fresh air, looking at the lack of stars and allowing the wind to ruffle her hair a bit. Good thing she didn't have those monsters of knots that Sabrina had, she would never have gotten those out.

Taking off at a sprint, Avis bolted up the stairs, slowing down to a jog as she entered the owlery. "Did you forget who the challanger for tonight is or did you just willingly ignore it?" There was an irritated tone to the comment, of which Avis simply ignored. Sabrina didn't have an irritated bone in her body. It was certainly sarcasm. So instead she simply shrugged. "You took so long to write in the book I must have forgotten"

The statement was said with no malice, no indignanty, simply a matter of fact explanation for a matter of fact question that was meant to shush the girl. Addressing the elephant in the room, Avis gestured to her wind swept hair. "I was halfway here, there was an open window and gust of wind; I can't control a broom very well." She then made the motion of the broom going down, complete with sound effects, than shrugged.

No lies.

The longer she flew up the spiral of stairs, the more intense her emotions got - even though she couldn't quite name them yet. Avis challanged her to race up to the owlery, and unless she knew of an exclusively secret in-between-the-walls kind of shortcut or suddenly learned how to apparate, she should've passed her by now. Unless, - the raven's flight slowed a little, her brows drawn together in thought- unless she wasn't running towards the Owlery at all. But why wouldn't she? Avis wasn't the type to back down from a challange, much less one she herself had proposed. Pouting over the puzzle she was missing a piece to, Sabrina tilted her broom upwards, zooming over the last few stairs half-anticipating to, somehow, be met with her friend's smirking face at their end. But the platform she flew into only hosted a few owls, some stirring or hooting in protest as the sound of her soles hitting cobbled floor sounded through their sleeping chambers.

Names for the feelings rising up within her now began to pop up. Confusion. Despair. Panic. Why wasn't Avis here? She was supposed to be here, or at least on her way up. Has she left? Why would she do that? Did she- her rasing thoughts came to a sudden halt when she heared a foreign pair of footsteps echoing up the flight of stairs behind her. With a sigh of relief so deep it visibly relaxed her shoulder, Sabrina swiveled around, still slightly pouty, delivering her first question.

Avis' answer stung, said fact visible on Sabrina's face as she tightened her grip around her broom. It was true that she had waited for long, far too long. She really didn't plan on it, sneaking off to their book hours after their last session, only to slam it without a new entry because her plan required items she didn't posses nor had a clear way of getting at the moment. It took about a week of planning and tracking the right people's schedules for her to prepare a heist she could actually pull of. And she was sure she would, once she was back from France. But then.. things happened, and she didn't. Looking into her brown eyes, Sabrina would like nothing more than to tell her friend all that, but that didn't seem any better of an idea than it did back in their common room.

Thankfully, she was forcefully brought back to her body when she fully processed the state her housemate arrived in: messy haired and empty handed. Empty. Handed. Before she could voice the question, the other girl was already in the middle of answering in. Sabrina's jaw droped. "What?" she questioned on a reflex, the high pitch tone she said it in earning a few angry hoots from the present birds. The clogs in her brain turned quickly, mulling over the just spoken words, brows furrowed as she got to a conclusion. "What?!" she repeated, now in whisper but more urgently, speeding towards the nearest gap in a wall to lean outside from, eyes fixed on the dark land below. Regardless of if she saw the discarded broom - she probably didn't, due to the absence of stars that night - she huffed, the sound carrying how flabbergasted she felt, shaking her head.

"You.. you chucked a broom out of a window." she mumbled, staying still for a few more seconds before pushing herself off of the ledge and stomping over to the only other student around, "you chucked a bloody broom out of a window!" she accused, still in whisper, wildly gesturing while she began to pace back and forth, "Bloody hell Avis, what in the- why?! Do you know how long it took - I am bad at spells! Darn it - I hate Transfiguration and I can't transfigure for life but I did, I did, just so I can get those brooms and you," her voice raised as she gestured to the broom-chucker, irritating the owls once more, "you chucked one right out of the first window you passed by! Ain't that just bloody wonderful!" she finished her lament of by covering her face with both of her palms and yell-groan into them. Remaining in that position for a minute or two, still grumbling, she then dragged her fingers down her face until her hands cuped her cheeks, "We're getting that broom back, you do realise that, right?"

Grateful she didn't spill her guts completaly - a disatser saved for another day - she tilted her head to a side, seeing an oportunity in this misfortune. Broom placed on the cobbled floor, she outstreched her arms. "Wanna make up for your mistake?"
Despite their friendship, there were many differences between the two girls. For example, Sabrina found comfort in physical contact. For her, it was a reminder of love, of loyality, a wordless admission that the person cared. To the point that a small part of herself believed that maybe, just maybe, if they could hug it out, everything would be good between them once more.

"You.. you chucked a broom out of a window." "Whoa whoa whoa." Avis held her hands up defensively, shaking her head the slightest bit. "I didn't say I chucked it out the window. I said there was a gust of wind." Although, she had, in all fairness, chucked it out the window. She would be irritated that Sabrina had assumed that if it wasn't, you know, true.

"Bloody hell Avis, what in the- why?! Do you know how long it took - I am bad at spells! Darn it - I hate Transfiguration and I can't transfigure for life but I did, I did, just so I can get those brooms and you," Avis remained silent through the outburst and tilted her head the to the side in curiosity.

Honestly, she was quite proud that her friend was more or less standing up for herself. As much as Avis wanted her to drop the whole thing, she would settle for this victory as well. As Sabrina finished her rant, Avis dipped her head in a soft nod of apology for her effort. "I can help you. You know. With transfiguration."

"Wanna make up for your mistake?" No. Heck no. Sabrina's love language and symbol of loyalty might have been physical touch, but it sure wasn't Avis'. She didn't know if she had ever even hugged Maria. Honestly, she couldn't remember the last time she had hugged her mother. She had sort of hugged Sabrina once, she remember, but couldn't fathom why, and knew it had been a poor one. She didn't know if she knew how to give a hug. Instead she stood there awkwardly, before abruptly turning toward the door.

"I believe we were going to get my broom?"

Quickly, she stepped out, but hovered in the doorway, not looking back at Sabrina. "I...I'm scared of, of flying. Like, deathly. I almost died off the viaduct." If not for Hans. Thank the Lord for Hans. Although it had somewhat been his fault.

Then she slipped down the stairs, sure the girl would follow and wincing at her stuttering. It wasn't a stutter, there was nothing causing it, Avis' subconsious stalling the inevitable.

"Same difference," Sabrina would shut her friend's argument down mid lament, swating at air while doing so. There was an argument to be made about one fully knowing or understanding another, especially since not many could truly claim they accomplished that even with themselves, even so, the now heated raven liked to think she had spend enough time with her flightless bird of a friend to recognize some patterns in her behavior, could decode the hidden messages between her words at least partially. And she was positive that 'there was a gust of wind' meant 'i am trying to cover up for the fact that i chucked a broom out of a window with utter nonsense' in Avis-speak.

Cheeks burning red, arms crossed over her chest, Sabrina soon traded her not-so-flaming-rage for blinks of confusion. She rarely had the time to listen to her own rants as their contents fled her mouth, often unaware how her thoughts translated into speech, so it took her by surprise when - of all things mentioned - her problems with Transfiguration were the thing the other girl commented on.

"I mean, I.. yeah. That- yeah. Okay, sure," she worked through her answer, the result sounding almost like a question to her own ears.

Aand the sliver of hope was gone, a persistent ray of sunshine overpowered by gray clouds. She was aware that Avis didn't place that much importance into physical affection - so the outcome was to be expected, really - but selfishly, she had still wished for it to not be the case, and self-centerd-ly, she took each rejection personally, even though logically she knew she had no reason to do so. This time, she wasn't given the choice of truly wallowing in it, Avis's next words taking her mind in different directions. Oh?

"Wait, really?" she heared her own surprised voice before she allowed for the words to be spoken, grimacing at her mouth's speed, "Sorry. It's just that- I had no idea."

Quickly reaching down for her broom she ran to catch up with her friend, her hand instinctively coming up to rest on her shoulder - this time she would only nod if Avis shook her hand off or dodged - silently trying to comfort her. I am here, I care. "You know, we don't need to be that high above the ground to fly," she began, "in fact, if we bend our knees, I am pretty sure we could do it in 20 centimetres or so. And we don't need to race - thanks to you we can cross that activity off our to-do list for today," came a tease, as she continued with her next, now a bit slower and calmer, ramble, "you don't even have to fly your own broom if you don't want to - even though we are getting it. You could just sit behind me - if you close your eyes, I bet I could fly slowly enough for you to not realise we're even moving," she grinned, searching for a way for them to complete her not-so-much-of-a-plan tonight without her friend being uncomfortable, "Oh and, if you really want to help me with transfiguration, I could help you with flying. Eh? What do you say?"

"Wait, really?" Avis didn't even acknowledge the comment with a look back at her friend. "We all have fears ya know. I ain't perfect."

As Sabrina's hand rested on her shoulder, Avis left it. Not because she was comforted by it in any means; rather, she distracted herself with the semantics. That had to be uncomfortable, holding ones arm up that high, and walking with it too. It was so....inefficient. Which sort of made sense. Avis lived for efficiency. Sabrina chucked that efficiency out the window in exchange for...well, Avis didn't really know. But it seemed to be worth it for Sabrina.

Strange.

As Sabrina launched into yet another rambling monologue, Avis bit back a grin. It really got to her, this ravenclaws consistent attempts to build everything to fit Avis - and her lack of ability to do so in a concise manner. It was almost sort of sweet, a word that she was going to have to look up in the dictionary after this.

She waited patiently for Sabrina to finishing making herself feel better, before gently pulling her hand of Avis' shoulder and turning around to face her. "It's alright. Product of being a muggleborn I suppose. People have tried to help me before and it's never gone well. Honestly, it's not a huge deal. I can occupy my time with other things."

The girls made it to the bottom of the stairwell and Avis paused a moment to pull her cloak out of her satchel and put it on, before slipping out the door to the grounds.
