ow exactly Evleynn had been wrangled into forsaking the better part of a Sunday afternoon to supervise a pick-up game of Quidditch, the lioness wasn't entirely certain. Nevertheless, there she was. The various house teams had taken all the prime time slots for the training pitch during the day, leaving the rag-tag group of Hogwarts and International students with some questionable weather and a sun that threatened to leave them engulfed in darkness if the game lasted on the longer side.

Already, droplets of rain spat upon the ground as though to express its disdain for their daring to mix things up and allow members of different houses and foreign students to join the same team. Not that it bothered the seventh-year one iota. A simple impervius was all that was needed to keep herself dry, while Gubraithian Fire—crackling pleasantly in a little brazier that had been magically adhered to her broom—chased away the impending chill. And with no real intension of either exerting herself or performing any trick maneuvers herself, Evelynn had opted to dress in form-fitted wool slacks, a chic oversized navy sweater, walnut leather buckled boots, and leather gloves and scarf to match.

Word must have gotten out somehow about the game, for she watched as student after student—some alone, others in pairs or groups—trickled into the pitch, eager to play. For any who did not have brooms of their own, arrangements had been made for them to make use of Hogwarts' school brooms. She lounged casually on her Oakshaft, hovering a few heads above the gathering throng and watched as they sorted themselves out, speaking up only to help point out any of the (usually younger) individuals who may have been overlooked or too timid to speak up for themselves.

A nod of acknowledgement was sent towards McCowan when her classmate arrived on scene; "Good afternoon, Miss Machavariani," to the young Slytherin Secretary upon her appearance, "and you as well Mister Norwood," she added moments later as the Headliner's Editor in Chief also showed; small waves were directed to the younger Hogwarts students whose faces she recognized; and respectful dips of her chin towards any of the foreign students who happened to look her way.

"All organized?" Auburn tresses danced on a small gust of wind as she addressed the captains. Upon receiving a general agreement, she nodded her head. "Very well." A slender and unassuming black wand produced itself into her left hand, and pointed it to each student in turn with a quietly uttered, "Multicorfors". Within the minute, every individual present would find whatever they were wearing had changed to something a bit more uniform, one might say.
The idea here is that Evelynn has changed the colour of every individual's clothing to identify the teams more clearly. Feel free to speak amongst your team to decide what colour scheme your team will represent. The spell also has the ability to change your attire's style, so feel free to use flavour this clothing transformation however you wish. Within reason. Evelynn is a practical and discreet individual by nature, and her magic would reflect that.
Then she touched the wand tip lightly to her throat. "Sonorus." When she spoke next, her voice had amplified, its dulcet tone easily heard in all corners of the training pitch. "Welcome, each of you," she began, tucking her wand back up her sleeve. "I trust that you have been given your role and any accompanying direction from your anointed captains. You will see that your clothing has been modified. I assure you, this is temporary. They will revert to their usual appearance after the game's conclusion. We will be using standard quidditch rules. As a reminder, no spells or wands are to be used. If I catch you doing so, I will deal with you personally and you will be expelled from the game. As for cheating..." The hint of a rueful smile touched her lips as she shrugged a brow. "Anything goes so long as you are not caught. Laps will be assigned if you are, so be clever about it."

"Now..." Slate eyes panned from face to face, silently sizing up each of those who were about to be taking part, lingering momentarily on each of the more senior students, before continuing on their path. "If any of you have any last minute questions, please approach now. The rest of you, I suggest you rise to your positions or find a comfortable seat upon the bench."

Once any concerns or greetings had been addressed, Evelynn rose with the rest, the effortlessness of the maneuvering suggestive of a level of comfort on a broom akin to those who were actively members of one of the broom sports. "Ready?" With the quaffle in one hand, and her wand pointed at an as-yet-closed trunk below them that bounced and shook as though it contained something that very much wished to be released, she took one last look across the two assembled teams. A moment later, she threw the quaffle high and flicked her wand. "Cistem aperio." The trunk below blasted open. Two black bludgers immediately cannoned from their confinement, whistling towards the airborne players. A glint of gold followed briefly in their wake before darting off onto its own path. The little drops of rain that had casually spattered here and there as the students had just begun to gather started to pick up in size and frequency. "Begin!"

OOC INFORMATION
x— first off, you'll notice this takes place at Hogwarts despite the owl sent out that said it was going to transpire at one of the international events. There were location/timeline conflicts for some of the players, and backdating to the International Students' most recent visit to Hogwarts was the best solution to ensure all players could still participate

— this is an unofficial quidditch game (there will be no house points or stat increases rewarded to the winning team)

— players must abide by all site rules, including the 200 word count post requirement

— no student hits the ground hard. Anyone knocked from their brooms will be lowered safely to the ground by Evelynn (yes, she gets unlimited actions and spells per round >:) )

— statistics and abilities have been locked in from your trunks as of the moment of this post; however, please specify which broom you will be using (this broom must be in your inventory for the duration of this game), which broom abilities you have chosen as applicable, and which individuals/team will be the target of your special talents as required

— the standard deadlines and gameplay will mirror official quidditch games:
i.e. teams must send me their actions (via owl or DM) and players must post a reply within 5 days (120 hours) from the time of the most recent moderation post

— moderation posts will be completed as soon as possible. My goal will be within 2 days of deadline, but my current life situation may preclude that at times. I ask for your patience

— if ever you notice an error in my moderating (I am very rusty!) please don't hesitate to reach out to me. My DMs/owls are always open for questions and communication

That a match of unofficial Quidditch had been organised, and that Livia had been invited to partake in the art of captaincy, had done nothing short of pleasing her. In fact, the young Slytherin had sent off a letter to her family to inform them of this outstanding occurrence. Her mother and father had declined to respond, but her brother had penned her warm congratulations with his shaky handwriting, and it was that doting memorandum that caused a rare, whimsical smile to grace Livia's features on this fine day.

The eleven-year-old's thin, bony fingers threaded around her Silver Arrow as she entered the training pitch. She cast an uncharacteristically-warm glance at Decipio and nodded at her. 'Good afternoon to you as well – thank you for hosting this; I look forward to seeing the game from the air this time.'

As a captain for Slytherin, Livia had encountered the training pitch on numerous occasions, this was the first time she would be entering the space as a player. Every time she had shouted commands to her teammates ran through her mind, and although she would be performing the same role of captain this time, she wondered if being in the air would make strategising more difficult. After all, she would have the additional worries of wind or bludgers knocking her off of her broom. Momentarily, she contemplated whether it would have been a good idea to attempt to sneak glue past Evelynn; likely not, she decided, as she doubted Decipio would be much pleased by cheaters, even if Livia herself held no hauteur towards the grifters of the globe.

She did, however, find @Silas Norwood to be a particularly insidious individual. Momentarily, Livia glanced back at Decipio, whose taste she now questioned. Norwood, although certainly brutish, lacked the burly nature often ascribed to Quidditch players. Livia lacked this, too, but the difference between her and Norwood was that she maintained the intelligence to ascertain a functional strategy; Norwood, with his brain the size of an up-quark and about as much tact as a blubbering blobfish in a ballroom... well, suffice to say, Livia doubted erudition to be one of his finest traits.

As Decipio spoke, Livia did not entirely listen to the rules of the game, assuming that, as a captain, she ought to know the ones that mattered. What was of more interest to her were the changes to her clothes. She glanced downwards, eyeing the practical outfit she had been assigned – gloves on her hands, long sleeves, all of a material she couldn't name immediately, but one that did not let in the cold of the wind or the damp of the rain. Her smile, which had faded upon her purveyance of Norwood's grimy exterior, returned, perhaps colder than it had been earlier, as she began to seek out the members of her team. Winning was of the utmost importance; one could simply anathematise the idea of having fun if victory did not accompany the merriment. Livia could almost imagine the peace that would wash over her should Norwood fall to the ground, humiliated.

Louca always enjoyed a match day even if it wasn’t an official one and looked and felt quite dreary. Every time he got on his broom led to fun and adventure, something he chased like no one’s business. Today would be even more interesting if only because he was playing a different role. He was interested in seeker if only because it meant he anticipated some kamikaze style dives (some of which might even be key to the game he was sure). But for the moment, he could keep himself seated on the bench, his broom nearby and ready to be grabbed at the least little provocation.

He pulled his hands back into his robes, figuring he could cheer just as good without them. It would protect them against getting wet which would in turn would keep him from getting too chilled he hoped. If not, he’d probably start doing jumping jacks on the sidelines.

He grinned as their robes changed, always glad for magic and the ease at which things could be accomplished on a whim. That had certainly helped with some of his pranks and adventures. Even if he was limited by his knowledge. He was never one to spend time in the library unless he had to, instead choosing to learn by practice and others.

Looking out across the Quidditch pitch, Aziza was honestly not too certain how she had ended up in this situation. The dark-haired girl had not been at Hogwarts for a month and had somehow been pulled into an unofficial game of Quidditch, something she had very little experience with. The girl barely even recognized most of the other players. Sure, she knew who her team was but she knew nothing about any of them. This was definitely not something she had planned her start of her first year. Playing a sport never even crossing her mind, but apparently she had agreed to this one.

The girl was anxious, Quidditch not being one of her strong suits in the slightest. She had played a few times with her cousins, but the rules were rarely ever followed in those moments. Luckily, she was the second keeper. Aziza got to sit on the bench and cheer until she was called to take over, if needed. This meant she was not going to be able to make as many mistakes and could spend more time sitting and observing.

With her brook clutched tightly in her hand, Aziza quickly made her way to the bench and sat down, tapping her fingers against her thigh as she settled. None of this was something she had planned for, going completely off schedule in a rather chaotic way. Maybe she would have fun though, maybe even the potential of making friends.

Nicholas had been a late edition to the team, and it showed with his appearance. The sixth year yawned as he approached the quidditch training pitch, hefting the borrowed broom over his shoulder as he did so. Quidditch had always been his favourite game growing up but for some reason he could not bring himself to find much in the way of enjoyment out of the sport anymore. Maybe that was part of getting older, he didn’t know. Just as he didn’t know half of the faces that would be making up his team. Foreign students, visitors that he had not bothered to get to know. Oh well, it didn’t matter all too much, all he had to do was warm the bench and let the rest of the kids go to work. When was it exactly that he became one of the oldest students at the school? It just wasn’t proper.

“Decipio,” He drawled as he approached. It made sense that she would be taking charge, he supposed, she always had an air of authority to her, even without badges to her name. Natural order he supposed. But he didn’t feel much need to think more on it from that.

Instead, he let the magic wash over his clothes, changing them to purple and bronze. He stifled another yawn, shot a lazy smile to his team, then made a show of patting Oonagh Brown on the head. The diminutive blonde was their captain, and ahead of him on the list of beaters.

“All you, champ.”

A single drop of rain fell from the sky and landed right on the tip of her nose as Maisie arrived on the Quidditch Training Pitch, where she would listen to Evelyn, the extremely knowledgeable older girl she'd seen at Quidditch and racing games, explain the plan for the day. From her words, it seemed like pretty standard Quidditch game, and she felt good about it. Quidditch—and hell, racing—felt better than Duelling ever had.

That was true even if she didn't know very many of the names on her side. Unfortunately, Percy had been assigned to the other team. Still, as she passed him to join her side, she offered him a wave and a quick, "Good luck up there. See you on the other side?" Maybe for some butterbeers or ginger snaps. That was, of course, assuming he didn't fall this time—and Maisie had faith he'd be able to hold onto his broom this time.

Meanwhile, the folks assembled were...really polite. The dialogue which transpired seemed more appropriate for a dinner party than a match, but no matter. She was here to do a job and that's what she'd do to the best of her ability. Mamori had been so nice to ask Maisie 'bad luck at sports' Gemmell to play, and she'd always found he was a good sportsman that she couldn't let him down. And broom sports had been a better fare for her than her wand so maybe she'd have a good time. She'd offer him a nod and wave before taking off.

Leaving for these inter-school trips was all about getting out of classes and finding as many activities and events to join as possible. Of course Kit jumped at the opportunity to play more quidditch, especially when it seemed as though half the team agreed as well. The weather wasn’t much of a concern, even if the the sun’s rush to disappear received a laugh. It would be good practice and add some excitement- what more could one ask for? The Beauxbatons student certainly wasn’t the first there, but she was prepared with a heavy borrowed broom in hand, hair tied up in a ponytail, and quidditch uniform on. Any familiar faces got a wave, temporarily focused more on finding her team before she could properly strike up conversations.

She would end up finding the captains, either following the Beauxbatons students or waving them over to join her, an eyebrow raised upon realizing that the captains seemed among the youngest of the teams. She was reminded of just how small first years could be, a number of them looking like a strong wind could send them tumbling- her Keeper captain especially. Kit would have to keep an eye for her, suddenly glad that the broom was enormous as it was always a tight squeeze on the others she had flown before. “Have either of you captained or played before? I don’t think I’ve seen you on the pitch before, but it’s easy to get caught up in all the excitement.”

Eventually the organization and announcements commenced, the teen extending her arms out to examine the new team colors adorning her uniform with a satisfied nod. She could never escape the Beauxbatonstheme, but it was quite a nice color.

The announcements were much of the same, Kit instead using the time to examine the final crowd. Raphael and Quentin were the immediately identified, but there were a few others she couldn’t be sure if she had seen across the pitch. The Sixth Year switched back to the known, finding her way to the previous chaser with a light elbow to grab his attention. “Knocking people out of the sky legally now?” Kit shook her head with a smirk. “What, did fun become not allowed? Leaving me lonely over here.” Her tone stayed light, the grin never leaving.

Fire pulled the jersey over his head, with a little more of a struggle then he would've liked to admit. He took a quick look in the mirror to take in the new attire, he had to admit that he looked good. They were a bit boring though? He smiled to himself as he took a koment just to admire himself, call himself self-absorbed, but he knew when he pulled something off. At least of course that was in his own eyes.

After he finished gearing up the rest of his uniform he headed for the pitch, to be honest Fire hadn't done anything quidditch related except for his flying lessons. Which honestly he believed to be his strongest suit as well as his strength, hence why he had applied to be a beater, it was what his skills most closely aligned with. To be honest he had been suprised that they had actually accepted him to be part of the team to begin with, and one that included oversea students as well! It was a tiny bit nerve-wracking to think that he might have to be a good example or impression for all the quidditch players of Hogwarts, even though... He hadn't even played a single game yet.

But that didn't matter, he just had to trust his abilities like always he could do this if he put his mind to it. He hadn't been paying attention and hadn't even realize the color change on his originally "boring" jersey. Then suddenly a voice came reverberating across the the field. He listened to the instructions and guidelines carefully, he couldn't help but be slightly amused by the looseness of the cheating rule. Just don't get caught. Hmm... Interesting to say the least.

As the speech came to an ending, Fire confidently walked over to the bench waiting patiently. Because he was second string beater after all.

Raphael blinked up into the falling droplets of rain on a background of dreary grey rainclouds and wondered how exactly he'd been roped into this chaotic event. As much as he enjoyed Quidditch, he'd thought he'd avoided social relations with enough vigour that no one would ever even think to invite him to such things. But then, he was part of the Beauxbatons Quidditch team, at least for the remainder of his last school year, and the opportunity to test another position in a match had tempted him into joining with much less resistance than usual. He was looking forward to finding out just how much havoc he could wreak on their opponents with a bat in his hand and two Bludgers at his disposal.

Spotting Kit waving at him among the small crowd of students from varying schools that had gathered on the Quidditch pitch despite the weather, he went to join her just in time to receive a colourful makeover by what appeared to be the match's referee, which he accepted with an appreciative nod. It would be convenient to clearly see which players were allies and which were targets, considering he didn't know most of them.

Beater had been the role he'd originally wanted upon signing up for Quidditch, but Chaser was the one fate had assigned him - mostly since they already had very capable Beaters on their team, while they'd seemed to have a severe shortage of Chasers. It wasn't like he wasn't capable in his current role, either. Throwing a ball through a set of hoops was easy enough, and tackling opponents off their brooms (which he seemed to be doing much more frequently than playing the Quaffle) was even easier - he even avoided being caught more often than not.

Hence it wasn't a surprise that Kit chose to tease him about swapping to the legal side of things, and he returned the comment with the sliver of a smile and a heavy-lidded glance from the corner of his eyes. "Just thought that I might as well let others go for the Quaffle if I'm going to be knocking out opponents anyway," he replied, shrugging. "I'll be back to play alongside you in our next match back home, don't you worry." He weighed the bat in his hand, testing its balance, then nudged Kit's shoulder with it. "I'm still counting on you to catch me if I fall, though."

In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice at disadvantage (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself). Ricochet damage is 75% of the original hit.
In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

The teal on his sleeves still doesn’t look real. The cocaptain wears the same colour. On her, it looks correct. The girl has thin, bony fingers wrapped around a Silver Arrow like it is something sharp. She gives the referee a polite nod, all straight spine and calm eyes, like this is just another appointment in a busy day.

He knows that broom. A Silver Arrow. Mahoutokoro uses them for races sometimes. His own Silver Arrow is not his own at all, only borrowed from @Chiaki Hiroi ‑san. The handle under his palm is familiar and wrong at the same time. Racing broom, Quidditch pitch. Too many new variables.

Most of the people who he actually knows are on the other side. Seniors. The real Quidditch players. People who’ve flown full seasons, taken bludgers to the ribs, and laughed about it afterwards. They’re all going to see every mistake he makes. Livia will see them too. She has the look of someone who counts other people’s errors for sport.

Still. He cannot deny that there is a hot little knot of pride in his chest that anyone trusted him with this at all. And right behind it, the cold edge of “Don’t embarrass yourself. Don’t embarrass the people who said you could do this. Don’t snap Chiaki‑san’s broom.”

The rain helps, somewhat. Unstable and shifting. Real. Rain he understands. He knows what weather does to visibility in flight. To balance. To nerves. Wind, rain, drift. These make sense in his head. People do not.

He listens to the rules intensely, like they might move if he blinks. The co-captain does not seem to be listening as closely, eyes already moving over the pitch, over the players, working out lines only she can see. Maybe real captains don’t need the rules repeated.

Kit’s question brings him back:
“Have either of you captained or played before?”
He blinks. She is looking directly at him now. For a moment his brain empties out, and what comes up first is the clumsiest English he owns.

“Raced a lot,” he hears himself say, voice coming out rougher than he meant in the unfamiliar language.“I do broom race. And referee some... small games. But first real Quidditch match.

Thin. It sounds thin in his ears, like he has just told her he has flown twice around a courtyard and expects applause. Beside him, Livia is very still. He can feel her attention like a weight, even if she says nothing.

Perhaps Kit didn’t mean anything by it. But what he hears is under her words is you don’t look like you belong here. Suddenly, sharply, he to prove that the things he knows counts. That broom racing is real experience. Different, yes. But not nothing.

And then there’s the usual thing. The half-giant thing.

He can feel his size even now. Hands that can snap the twig of a broom shaft if he he grips too hard. Legs that can knock someone sideways just by drifting a little close. Every choice comes with an extra, silent equation: don’t block that angle too aggressively, don’t barrel past that Beater, don’t make contact unless you’re absolutely sure you can pull the force back. One wrong collision and --

He can’t think like a referee, and yet he keeps doing it. Positions, rotations, fouls. All the rules are scrolling in the back of his head like a checklist. Except now watching is no longer enough. Now he has to be in the thick of it.
