@Hugh Lowe
It was the early evening. The Great Hall was filled with rowdy students that sat on great benches shoulder to shoulder to enjoy the evening meal -- it was chicken or pheasant, some sort of bird meat. Served as always family-style, great plates piled with more meat than the children would conceivably eat in a single sitting. Large bowls of mashed potatoes with a pair of great spoons. Then another bowl of braised cauliflower. Admittedly, the spread did not seem particularly appealing even if it was vast and plentiful. It was simply white on white on a basic, clean, porcelain plate.

Vladimir had no plans to eat anyways...

This was when the three of them would congregate -- Vladimir, Marion and Victor. However, as of late they had both been delinquent, headed off to who knows where doing who knows what. How could they? How dare they? If the students at Hogwarts knew what they had seen and what they had said, there would be no mercy for either of them. The only people that they could trust was Vladimir, the clever one. The one who always knew best.

Today, like yesterday, they did not show. Vladimir sat on the bottom steps of the dungeon, in sight of the Slytherin Common Room door and rested his chin in his hand. It was no fluke, it was the emergence of a pattern.
An hour later.

Hugh 'Huge' Lowe, part giant from Gryffindor. While the second year might not know everyone, most people knew who he was. He literally stood heads above the rest of the student body. He was everything that Victor needed in a boy, size, strength and likely endurance. There was something intimidating about even the gentlest souls when they stood a foot taller than their contemporaries. But when dealing with a boy that is sized like a man, they are still a boy in the end.

There were several facets of Hugh Lowe that made him particularly fascinating. First, there was his nature-given size, strength and endurance. Second, his house sorting as Gryffindor. While the four houses of Hogwarts broadly categorized students, there was some room for prejudice but the sorting hat looked for the one trait that truly defined someone as it rested on their crown. Victor has always had his wits about him. That is not to say that he was not ambitious, he was dangerously so. He was also fearless, one could even call it cocky. But in the end he was more clever than he was either brave, loyal or ambitious. Hugh was 'brave.' Third, at one time he was a Prefect. Being a Prefect so young only happens for a few reasons -- he wanted to be in control because he was ambitious and liked the power. No, then he would have been sorted into Slytherin. He wanted to help his friends. No, then he would have been sorted into Hufflepuff. He wanted to be in charge to satisfy his pride, to perhaps be the hero or the fixer. That sounded right. He wanted to fix something, because something was broken or he was broken.

Gryffindor was particularly unsettled by Harry Potter's conviction. Potter was convicted of murdering Dolores Umbridge, a real devil of a woman if the accounts about her were true. Another part of this cruel game Vladimir was about to play. Recently some of the Gryffindor students erected a new club -- the Liberation Club. A club that was dedicated to exonerating their hero, Harry Potter. It was utterly heart-warming, enough so to fill the cockles of the Ravenclaw's blue-blooded heart. He was going to help them, just this once.
Hugh Lowe:
There is this itch in your heard that you just could not scratch. That sort of twitchy feeling that goes away only if you ignore it long enough. But this time it does not go away. That feeling would become a slight pain in the head not unlike a migraine headache. The sort that could not just simply be ignored. Rather the sort where you needed to take something to ameliorate the discomfort before your evening is wracked in pain.

Of course that would be when you heard it, the noise that you would not be able to hear over the din of the chatter. Your name.  Not even your full name, just Hugh. The pain in the head would seem to crescendo, as if it was a blaring noise but there was no sound. No single shrill note, just this unending stream of constant pain that was like a facet on full force with a broken knob.

Hugh...

A whispered voice. But still pain.

Hugh...

Your name would be repeated, a faint exhale from what sounded like a woman's soft voice calling out to him. But the blaring pain continued. It was getting hard to see, bleary images like unsettled paint on a canvas left in the pouring rain.

Hugh.

The voice was getting more abrupt and louder. A direction could be localized. It was beckoning you away from the Great Hall and down a corridor.

Hugh.

Again, the same steadfast voice. The blinders were on, it was hard to see anything but a black curtain on either side of the periphery.

Hugh.

It was getting more urgent. Like it needed something. Like it needed you.

Not one to deny the call to adventure.

Hugh.

Or an urgent call.

Your hand would meet the door, not that you could even see it but muscle memory and instinct told you it was there. Your blinks were getting longer, these periods of darkness that were getting longer and longer.

Hugh!

The voice screamed! It would rattle the contents inside your head. And you would blink one last time for a very very long time.
It would seem like only a minute but in truth over an hour would pass. Standing over you was a boy about your age. He was a lot smaller than you, but that was normal in this setting. He was shaking you by your shirt. "Hey. HEY!" He was moderately powerful, not strong enough to list your torso from the ground. The uneven, sloping, lumpy ground. Yes, you were on a set of stairs.

"Hey man, you OK?"

You were starting to stir.

"Dude! Wake up! The hell?!"

You were for the most point fine, less a gash on your head where the pain you felt earlier was. How queer.

"Man, you just came down these stairs like you were on a mission and then, BAM! Your knees buckle and you drop like a sack of rocks. You've only been down a little bit, I was gonna get some help if you didn't rouse. You scared the ever-living shit outta me!"

Vladimir would back away from the part giant and wait for him to rise, offering his hand if necessary knowing that it would be almost no help to him as he extended it.

Two green eyes peered from underneath a furrowed brow towards the other boy. The room had gone dark, as if he had magically teleported between places or a fragment of time was cut from his memory. A female voice had changed to that of a boy. Her echo still ringing in his head like a quickly fading memory as he adjusted to his new surroundings. His hand found its grip on the low-lit wall in the dungeons.

There was something scary for a large creature to become trapped in a narrow or smaller environment. In a matter of a second your space would be taken away. An escape route could be easily blocked in the narrow passages on the lower floors. With a growling sound the quiet boy got back on his feet. Wearing his trademark red sweater that he had outgrown for a year now, it would simply add to the many factors showcasing his height to the other student.

Hugh quietly inspected the smaller boy from head to toe (Noting his house, should he wear his uniform). It had been a while since the giant had stood face to face in a conversation with anyone other than himself inside the castle. Eventually a low toned voice would rumble out with a heavy breath. Clearly labeling him as nervous and uncertain on what to do. "What did you do?"

"How did I get here?!" He called out as he immediately recalled the other boy's remark. He was walking down on a mission. The young scot hadn't felt like he was on a quest for months now. Lately he felt less a knight and more the bear his father referenced in his old bedtime stories. With another growl he felt his head hurting. His fingers were met with a small gash as he recalled the nagging pain. "Did you stop me?"

The big guy was OK. As Vladimir backed away from the part giant and he stood at his full height, Vladimir nervously gulped. He looked a wee-thing in comparison really, but overall he did not seem particularly fussed. Size mattered for a lot of things, but in terms of conversation it was grossly irrelevant.

"Vladimir," the Ravenclaw (yes donning a blazer that would distinguish him as a member of that house) announced in introduction. A hand extended, he would not shy away from a shake even if it risked a few broken fingers.

"I didn't stop anything, you just toppled over coming down the stairs. Knocked yourself out cold in fact," Vladimir claimed as he gestured at his own forehead to the right to indicate that something was there. He was mirroring what he saw on Hugh, bit of blood mingled with filth. "Pretty sure I would be crushed under your weight if I tried to save you," he forced out a half laugh as he continued to try to casually engage the part-giant.

"I spend a lot of time down here, sorta the odd man out since all of my other friends are Slytherins. You're a Gryffindor, right?" He pointed at the red sweater. He already knew the answer, a standout such as Hugh towered over his peers and was therefore the easiest one to spot in a room.

"You OK, with the head thing?" He gave the second year a lop-sided smirk. "You don't look like the sorta guy that get's into too many fights," too long and gangly. His presence was likely a stronger deterrent than actual violence. "Which is good, better than my friends," the conversation was starting to segue with that purposeful comment. "Y'know snakes... can't trust a word they say."

"I'm fine." Hugh grumbled with a sigh. Sagging his shoulders as he saw the Ravenclaw as no threat. "It'll heal, I'm sure." He was pretty sure it wasn't anything major judging by the other's reaction. If half his face would have been cut away, the boy would probably have run off screaming either in fear or for help.

Vladimir's comment on him being a non-fighter rubbed Hugh the wrong way. Sure, the part-giant indeed had avoided all hostilities towards his figure. And he knew he could pack quite some damage should anyone get on his bad side. But overall Hugh never liked violence, a curious thing for a knight. Nevertheless the sheer mention of a fight would cause him to purse down his lips. Why? Are you looking for one? For one of the clever house, the boy seemed a little more relaxed and down-to-earth than some other pigeons Hugh had seen flying at school.

"One of my best friends is a Slytherin." His voice replied with a thick accent. "Well, we haven't spoken in a while..." His eyes looked down to the floor. It was true, he had stayed back in the tower whenever he could. Avoiding all contact with anyone other than the time mandatory to fulfill his lessons. "Why do you say this about your own friends?" His eyebrow arched up in curiosity. Why was he down here and talking with this... Vladimir?

"Your friends coming soon then?"

"Yeah, I think you'll make it somehow."

He jested.

Vladimir was assessing the situation and the boy, well mentally a boy but physically more akin to a man, before him. Who did he see himself as. How did he see others. The world is not defined by ones reality but rather their perception of it. His expression changed when Vladimir mentioned how Hugh did not look much like a fighter. A tall, awkward boy who could win most fights by the virtue of his size alone whose mannerisms suggested he was if anything more passive until he saw the change in his expression for a brief moment and heard in the back of his head a whispered sentiment.

Got him.

"One of my best friends is a Slytherin."

Hugh defended a nameless person. Vlad simply nodded.

"Mine too."

A commonality.

"Well, we haven't spoken in a while..."

"And same."

Vladimir shrugged.

"Not as close as we used to be, if we were ever close at all."

Perhaps the same was true of Hugh's friend, perhaps not but the notion was being planted.

"There is not much that can be gained with me beyond my silence I suppose."

Slytherins were best known for their ambition and their cunning, but just because one was not placed in the Slytherin house did not mean that they wanted for either. Some were simply more clever than they were cunning.

"Why do you say this about your own friends?"

"Just because they are my friends does not mean that I am blind to their flaws."

Vladimir explained simply.

"They are not bad people, just different from me. And sometimes that test the extent of my friendship. But--"

Vladimir looked down the hallway away. The dungeon simply goes deeper into darker places. Places he has never explored and truly never intended to.

"I have said too much, they would kill me if I talked."

"Your friends coming soon then?"

Vladimir shook his head side to side -- No.

"I don't think so, they are an hour late."

He actually sounded a bit disappointed. That is what friends were in a lot of cases, disappointing. His especially as of late. Leaving him on his own. Their trio becoming a duo that he was not even a part of. Vladimir would walk towards Hugh, but not into him as he took to the stairs that ascended to the ground floor.

"Sounds complicated" Hugh frowned as the guy gave him the cool vibes. With the way he talked of his friends, things looked disappointing in the light he shed. Maybe he was a loner like Hugh. "I guess life is." Hugh looked up to the stairs and wondered if he should go back up again. He did not belong down here. The halls were too narrow and dark here. There was a near claustrophobic feeling Hugh could get once he noticed his head getting too close to the ceiling. The other kid seemed to have the same idea.

"Hey, you're going up? I can walk with if you don't mind." Hugh would try to follow the Ravenclaw up the stairs, trying to get away from here. He wasn't even sure why or how he got here. Was there something he was looking for? He would turn back around to look over his shoulder. It was just an empty hall with no purpose to it. He tried to remember, searching his mind for any possible meaning to this. All he could do was shake his head in response to himself. If it ever popped up again he would inquire with the nurse, now it just seemed like faith showed him around to another loner. He seemed nice enough really.

"There has been a lot of weird stuff going on around here. Around Hogwarts that is, don't you think. Crazy," Vladimir continued. "But," he looked Hugh over with an inquisitive eye as he tried to force the pieces of a puzzle together in his head. He let out an audible breath, the big guy was not much of a talker.

"But, since nobody else is around but you," the 'big guy.' "Curious how things have been for you," curious how? "I mean you stand out," he literally stood heads and shoulders above his peers as well as many of the Professors already. "And that's gotta be hard. Hard ever since..." he let his voice trail off a bit as he watched Hugh for a reaction. "Well," he shook his head. "The ball." Hugh and Quinn made names for themselves at the ball, little did they knew. They stood out - the ginger giant and the hairier one.It was a crude description but there were not many part giants in Hogwarts. Thanks to the actions of a few unstable students part giants such as Hugh have been seen in an unfavorable light.

There are these tropes, these presumptions about part giants. That they are angry, violent and dangerous. Because they are strong. Because there is a force behind their first, a fearsome threat with their presence. A fact that Hugh might be bothered by but even he submitted to his rage and what that meant -- when Galton attacked him and chewed away at his hair, Hugh was temporarily enraged. Everyone saw it that night.

"I think it is a lot of bull," Vlad concluded. He kept is vague, in truth the part-giant could take his words one of two ways and the way it took him was more relevant than the conversation. Getting to know what made the boy tick. "But people can be crap sometimes I guess. In any case, I am sure that you have nothing to worry about."

Aamon

"It's none of your bloody business!" the boy growled towards the other. His voice echoing throughout the dim lit hallways. It was true, people had been giving him odd looks wherever he popped up in existence. At first he had assumed them to be the usual. People who couldn't figure out how a boy twice their size could be in the same year as them, or a year lower even. But recently his mind had offered him another reason. They were afraid of him, they hated him. With the part-giant attack in the ballroom, they felt he shouldn't be here.

Feeling his anger boiling up in his body, he clenched his fists as he stared towards Vladimir. There's was a split second he considered hit. Striking down another boy that thought it to be wise to talk with him about the subject. Was he just being smug? Smart like those bloody pigeons always seemed to be, Hugh was almost sure this guy was out to get something from him. Something he wasn't smart enough for. "You're not my friend. Leave me be."

The part-giant turned his back and walked up the stairs, two steps at a time. He seemed to grumble as a multitude of thoughts warmed inside his head. Paranoia struck the boy wherever he met other faces. They were all out to get him. Except maybe that other part-giant he had seen. He was a Hufflepuff, or so he thought. Perhaps it was time to find that ginger bloke for once. If people were starting to ask questions so openly, they'd have to stick together.
Hugh attempts to exit unless stopped.

Looks like he hit a nerve. Well, someone had, most likely him. There was just something about the line of questioning, the presumptions. Aggressive. He could see it in his mannerisms. That anger a big boy like him had to keep shuddered away. Fear for what others might say. Might think. Might do. It was not the truth as much as it was the thought, appearances mattered to some people. What people believed mattered more than what was true.

It did not matter that he had tried to commiserate with the part giant, in fact @Hugh Lowe had proven the presumptions. He raised his hands as if in some mock surrender. "Sorry-sorry big guy," yes he chose to point out his size again. Why, because it bothered him. Because he was not as nice of a boy as he might seem. Of course, who wants nice - nice is boring! "Just a lonesome guy trying to be friendly," there was the hint of a smirk on his face as he said that. "Did not expect it to be true. Have a nice day!"

Hugh was looking to storm off. Vladimir knew better than to pursue, he would find himself crushed underfoot if he was not careful and he knew it. Hugh would not be stopped verbally or physically as he departed from the dungeons.
