Ready, Set, Detention! pv detention

@Rosalyn Willows, @Alex Thompson
This would have been Sage’s dream detention. Running, even in the colder months, was always a special treat for her. She had a feeling it may not be these kids’ cup of tea, however.

Sage stood waiting out by the Great Lake for the two of them, a large, mischievous smile on her face. She’d gotten there plenty early, just to scare them a bit. Once the two eventually arrived next to her, Sage would relay her instructions.

“Good morning, you two. Get some good rest after your little escapade last night?” She motioned back to the Great Lake. “No, you don’t get to go for a swim. As punishment for breaking curfew, you will both be running a mile around the Great Lake. See how fun it is to exercise on minimal sleep, huh?” She smirked before continuing. “I want to see you both make sure to stretch before you begin, I won’t have you deliriously running and hurting your legs. Anyways, one whole mile round the lake, then you can go back in once I’ve dismissed you and you’ve learned your lesson. Understand?”

She waited for them both to show their understanding before she motioned for them to begin.
Rosalyn, Alex, you will be writing a total of 600 words of your character running a mile around the Great Lake for this detention. All directions are also included in my owl to you. You may not begin new threads until this is completed.

Alex came down to the riverbank, shivering in the cold. He was roaming around the castle past 10 pm. His curfew was at 9 pm. But the curiosity inside him couldn't let him sleep, and he went to explore the castle at night. He found a girl there, but before he could ask her something, the prefect of his own house, Hufflepuff, caught them. He was feeling sad, not because he had gotten detention, but because another innocent student had gotten into trouble. He wanted to say sorry to her and apologize, but before he could, the prefect started giving them the instructions. She told him that he and the girl had to run a mile around the. I was in shock, I blurted out, "A mile?? That is too much!!" But Alex knew better that there was no backing off.

Alex started to stretch his arms and legs, ready to bear a long run, which he wasn't ready for at all. He liked playing and running around, but a mile around the lake was very much. That too in such cold temperatures, it was gonna be torture for him. He started jogging alongside the girl. He leaned over while jogging and said, "I am sorry. I didn't mean to put you in this situation. By the way, I am Alex. What about you??" Alex could feel his legs going numb, but he could also feel the gaze of the prefect fixed on him, due to which he had to run no matter what.

Alex was feeling really bad now as, first of all, he landed into dentention, and secondly, he got a girl in trouble he didn't even know. But, now with no choice, a bit of hatred for the prefect and stamina in his legs, Alex was jogging, trying to cover the massive target of one mile around the lake.

Aww, man.” Rosalyn said quietly to herself when the Prefect that had apparently caught them told them exactly what their detention would be. Was it a bit unfair, seeing as she was literally lost and wasn’t like sneaking around or something? Maybe it was unfair. But, Rosalyn wasn’t about to leave this boy alone, running in the cold.

I’m Rosalyn, but I almost always go by Rosie, it sounds less fancy.” she replied, answering the boy’s previous question about her name, after he had introduced himself as Alex.

And it’s not your fault at all, I guess I should stop getting lost so often. This whole thing is kind of funny though, but hey, at least you’re not a monster! For a bit I thought I was about to get snatched or something.” she said, jokingly, trying to bring light to the situation they were in, but also part truthfully. She had thought she was about to get taken by a creature or something, but nope, just Alex.

The jog that the two of them were doing wasn’t too bad. Rosalyn could run, she used to all of the time, but it wasn’t her favorite thing to do. Especially since her toes were starting to get numb from the cold.

Wanna go a bit faster? So we don’t get too cold?” she asked, not meaning for them to begin sprinting, but just a bit faster.

She could tell that the Prefect was still watching the two of them, which almost made Rosalyn laugh. The fact that she was in detention for being too stupid to remember a backup way to get to her Common Room was sort of funny. She wasn’t at all bitter about the detention, her parents wouldn’t understand if she told them, so nobody was going to get mad about it. In fact, maybe it would make her look cooler at school. Or be a neat fun fact about herself someday, getting detention because she got lost.

She kept going though, silently laughing to herself, and hoping that Alex felt the same about this whole absurd situation.

Alex started jogging. Around a quarter mile passed when the girl introduced herself as Rosalyn, and she preferred Rosie as a short form. By this time, Alex couldn't feel his feet. His legs were numb, and it felt as though he was merely moving them through the snow. He could only feel his upper body and the snow falling on him and Rosie. His nose had gotten red when his mind suddenly drifted to a thought.

Alex thought,"Wait!!! Will an owl be sent to our parents?? No!!! No!!! No!!! Dad is gonna kill me. He is going to lecture me about discipline and how he shouldn't have received a detention, especially in his first year." Alex imagined the whole situation where he gets the red fowler from his dad. The foelwer shouts at him for acting like this and that he deserved better. All this was already a great deal for Alex to handle when he started to feel his face getting red and flushed. He was out of breath, so he took some deep breaths to steady himself. During all this time, he never stopped running, thinking that if he stopped, he would have to restart the whole mile again.

During all this overthinking, a voice cut through his thoughts. It was Rosie's voice suggesting running faster. Alex thought for a moment. His legs were already numb. He was anyway going to get scolding from his dad. Then, what's the point of jogging like a dead body? He decided that it's better to make this detention a bit better and bearable. He accelerated, turning back just to shout,"IT'S A RACE THEN!!!! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!! OR ARE YOU JUST TOO SLOW TO DO SO???" Alex jolted his way through the snow. If he was getting in trouble, then he might as well own and enjoy the trouble. After all, he got into this because of a trait that makes him what he is, curiosity.

Oh, unfair, but it’s so on!” Rosalyn shouted back, running faster now. Apparently, it was a race, and Alex already had the lead, but she was never the type to back down from a challenge. She wasn’t doing a full sprint, because she doubted she could keep that up for a full mile, but she was going pretty fast, all things considered.

“Ha, take that!” she said to Alex as she passed him, a grin on her probably bright red face. She felt frozen solid, but was starting to defrost with the speed they were going at.

As the mile went on, she was probably at about three-quarters of the way through then, she began to speed up bit by bit, into that final stretch.

She wondered if Alex would catch her. He probably would, since she had never been the best runner, but her only goal was to not turn into a Rosie-sickle, and to finish the run and be done with this detention. What a story she’d be able to tell her friends about what she was up to that night.

As she kept running, she felt herself begin to warm up, bit by bit. It was slow, frigid, but then she finally could feel her extremities again, which was quite a nice feeling after not being able to for a while.

She couldn’t believe she was in detention, not really, but she wasn’t counting this as anything she did wrong. The staircases moved, she couldn’t get back to her Common Room, and she found a boy in the Trophy Room. Oh, well, at least she was having fun.

Sage stood by the Great Lake, watching the two run. She didn't mind that they were chatting as they pushed on, though God knows how they managed to uphold a conversation in the cold. She kept a careful track of how far they'd run, their stamina as they went. Maybe she'd give them some pointers on running at the end, but she doubted they'd appreciate it.

Part of her itched to drop everything and run out to join them. She'd run that path around the lake plenty of times, she had memorized how many laps equaled what distance, at what point her muscles began to ache.

As the pair neared the finish line, Sage called, “Almost done! Just a few more paces, come on!”

Mindful of weather conditions, Sage brought them both a bit of water for when they finished. She clapped slowly for them as they finished, a little bit of motivation. She passed them both the water, if they accepted it.

“Good job. I trust this will have taught you to not break curfew again, yes? Anyways. You're finished, you can head back inside whenever you're ready. And, uh, don't let me catch you out after dark again.”

She nodded a polite goodbye, and turned back towards the castle.

Alex saw Rosie jolting beside her. He wanted to run, but his legs were too numb to run. Still, he managed to stay close to her while running at the fastest speed possible by his legs. A few more jogs later, his detention was over. He couldn't believe he had just run a mile in such cold with almost numb legs. The prefect told us our detention was over and left. Alex felt a surge of calmness. He wanted to ask the prefect whether owls would be sent to the parents regarding this, but he was too busy gasping for air. He sat on the ground, leaning his back against a rock, and rubbed his gloved hands.

He then looked at Rosie and said in pants, "Come!! Sit!! He patted on the ground, sliding slightly to make room for her. He then continued,"By the way, congrats on the win!! I am in Hufflepuff."He saw the green and silver snake on Rosie's robes and said,", And you are Slytherin, so you must be a pure-blood. I am too." Alex always thought that Slytherins always have pure-blood wizards and witches.

"Sure, I'll sit, I can't feel my legs anyways!" Rosalyn said, going to sit down next to Alex, whom she had apparently just run an entire mile with. In the freezing cold. She couldn't believe that she hadn't gotten frostbite at this point, that all of her toes were still attached!

"Uh, actually, no. I'm a muggle-born. Both of my parents have no magic. Though it would have been cool if they did! I have to explain every little thing in my letters to them if I want them to know what's going on, but it's fine." she said, hoping that Alex wouldn't suddenly hate her because she wasn't a pure-blood like him.

Honestly, why were those titles such a thing? Especially in Slytherin house? Some people were absolutely amazing, and didn't care who Rosie's parents were. Then, other people, even some that weren't Slytherins, cared so much and were so rude!

She hoped she wouldn't have to add Alex to the list of people who cared about her family tree. Speaking of that, she should probably check up on her grandparents, they're really, really old, and she needs to make sure they're doing okay. For another time, though, she needs to focus.

"Uh, sorry if that's a bad thing, I guess I can't really control it. I can just...go..." she said, slowly getting up from the rock she was sitting on, trying not to make herself dizzy or fall over from the cold and the tired legs from running.

Alex sat peacefully beside the Great Lake with his feet so numb he couldn't feel them. He landed a detention, alongside a girl named Rosie. She was a Slytherin, which made Alex think she was a pure-blood witch. Slytherins had a reputation for being pure-blood, so Alex's assumption was quite obvious. The fact that caught Alex off guard was the fact that Rosie wasn't a pure-blood witch but instead a Muggle. Alex's eyes light up because his curiosity started to boil.

Alex notices that Rosie might think he was one of those who cared aboutblood status. Alex quickly said, "Heyy!! Heyy!! Relax. I don't care about blood status. I asked because Slytherins have a reputation for having only pure-blood wizards. But it's totally fine. Actually, if you don't mind, can you tell me about the Muggle world? I am quite curious about the Muggle world and how they function without magic. " Alex was never one of those who cared about blood status, infact he always thought all this was nonsense. The magic done by all the wizards and witches was the same then; why these titles?

Alex smiled internally, knowing even if she wanted to leave, she couldn't because her legs were as tired and cold as mine. He knew she was trapped with him. He had many questions, but the main one was how she got sorted into Slytherin. He asked without thinking how it might land,"By the way!! How did you get sorted into Slytherin? That houses prefer pure-blood wizards and witches.. I mean, like it's quite unusual. No offense but, Rosie"

"Okay, I'm glad you don't care. So many people really do, and not all of them are even in Slytherin! I guess they're jealous, maybe? I mean, I guess Slytherin is a desirable house or something? I'm not really sure, but it's still a bit annoying." Rosalyn said, thinking it over. She had met a few people already who didn't like her just because her parents weren't magical, which she thought was a little bit rude. It wasn't exactly in her control if her parents had magic or if she was the first.

"Uh, I guess by the Sorting Hat? I'm kidding, but not really. I honestly don't even know, I just sort of did." she said, telling the truth to answer his second question. She didn't know how she had been sorted into Slytherin, but there she was, very much so a member of Slytherin house.

She sat back down on her rock, deciding not to leave quite yet.

"I know it's pretty unusual, but that's fine, I'm used to being the unique one in a lot of things, and this is fine with me. I just wish people weren't so mean about it." she said.

"Some people are really nice, though! I mean, not everyone is mean about it, which is good." she said, remembering some people she'd met that were pretty cool.

"You said you're a pureblood, right? So, both parents magical?" she asked, curious to know if she had heard him right.

"Tell you what, Alex, I propose a trade. I tell you about anything muggle of your choice, and you do the same with anything magical of my choice. And we can do the swap however many times we want, not limited to just one. Or would you prefer to do this a different way?" she asked. It would be perfect, she'd get some more knowledge and so would he, and both of them would know more about the other's world.
