Tonsillitis was like my second birthday when I was a kid! Had it every year
Then I got my tonsils removed when I was in 2nd year. Tonsillitis be gone forever!

I almost had to get my tonsils out, but ended up not. I did get my wisdom teeth out a couple years ago though. That wasn’t a fun recovery. 
(I have another surgery probably this summer for something else and I’ve heard it’s a horrible recovery, but worth it.)
