XXXXX𝕭rookline tapped the cold, dorm window, as she gazed out, at the cool, winter-blue sky. Despite the outrageous holly and jolly carbon dioxide floating around in the very air, the Welsh girl felt the opposite, her heart carving a deep void. There was a Muggle Christmas tale that her older sister, Lizy’s friend once told her. According to Lizy’s friend from Hogwarts there was a green furry creature called the Grinch, a main character in the How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Before the end of the dreadfully ridiculous story the Grinch was a mean and nasty soul, his heart was two sizes too small, and more likely said, cynical and a full-on grouch. Today, Brookline felt like said Grinch.
Alone on Christmas Eve, Brookline was glad she was solitary, and all on her own. She had chosen good when she hadn’t responded the letter that came by, the fear that everything would explode and be written and sent on that paper that could change everything. She quite relished the idea of being one of the few students at Hogwarts. It was always so crowded during the school year, and now since it had been one day since most wizards and witches went home during the holidays, the Ravenclaw Common Room was much more silent and tranquil. Including the Great Hall had drastically changed in volume and in student size and mass. Brookline had gone to breakfast to eat some light food, and for lunch she sipped on a pumpkin juice a bit as she noticed the usual morning and early afternoon buzzing had decreased.
Now, the young girl could do whatever she wanted with the lesser chance that somone, even anyone would come up to her in the intention of one’s desire to chat with Brookline, and to get to know one another.
She signed, as a icy glare sat on her fair face, and she ran a shaking palm through her tangled braid. If Brookline’s grandmother had been around to yack with her, the pure-bred, old bird would have already demanded her that she’d either brush that rat’s nest of hair or chop it off to her chin. Of course, Mrs. Beatrice Hawthorne was a bit forward with her words yet Brookline loved the stern yet kind woman.
The Quinn’s fingers tucked back the cable-knit sweater’s sleeve, as the inside of her wrist screamed at her, barking at her to be itched. Of course she compiled, her short nails sketching long cherry-red lines on her pale skin. Lately, Brookline has been itching various parts of her body, her fingernails causing vermilion rashes to appear and bloom.
Her dark blue volleyed back to the sparkling, sliver snow, and Old Brookline desperately wished she’d hadn’t lost the outgoing shard of herself so she could literally just go outside and play out in the snow with some of her best friends. New Brookline wrenched her gaze away and it fell on the discoloured parchment paper that she threw on her bed earlier. Four days ago, at breakfast, Trinity, the Quinns’ family owl came by with a letter from Lizy. She needed to write something back. Even if she wrote a depressing letter back in November. And soon, Brookline yanked a couple quills and a piece of parchement from her trunk, sifting through the messy trunk, contents a hazard.
Scrawled handwriting on a card, and then messy signature on the bottom, along with the date at the top of the parchment. There. She finished Lizy's. And without meaning too, Brookline grabbed yet annother card to write to a friend. Then to two letters. Then three. Four. Six. The frustrated girl soon found out that she reslished the idea of writing. In fact, Brookline just may be more brave on parchment than face to face. At least she could bless a friend a happy Christmas, and brighten up their day, and send a little accomplishment into hers.
Tigeress timed her breathing the same as Brookline, the feline wrapped into a ball on the Ravenclaw's pillow. At first, she thought her deep breathing had a reiteration. First tears started and burst and then her arms wrapped around her kitten. Drops of salty water traced across her face like tracks. Like a unorganized map. A map of how much and long she'd traveled.
Tigeress was barely a help. Apparently the cat hadn't wanted any human contact today, and once Tigeress had gotten a thirty-second hug, she wriggled out of Brookline's clingy arms, and pounced off the bed.
Tears continued to drip and drip down as she tucked all her Christmas cards into separate envelopes, and Brookline grabbed her coffee-coloured sweater, pulling it over her mess of hair. Weaving the bird's nest into a slender braid, she noticed her tears never stopped yet never progressed into full-blown sobs. Which was surprisingly. She dried her tears with dry palms and headed her way to the Owlery to send these letters.
Lizy,
I know I don't send letters quite often. Don't mention how my last letter was more than a month ago. I just don't have enough time anymore. Third year is rough with homework.
Anyway, happy Christmas, big sister! I hope you and the littles had a jolly little time together, even it is without me. Give Cash, Chase, Minnie and Marie a Christmas hug for me.
Oh, I almost forgot to ask! Did Chase have his first accidental magic, yet? Did he? What was it? What emotion was he feeling? Or Cash's? I'm sure at least one of them has had their first instance of magic.
And, how are you doing, Liz? Hope you're doing well! Those kiddos are a handful but I'm quite sure you're doing great. Hope Mum's also doing well.
Well, I suppose I better sign this off here (I have more Christmas cards to go though haha!). Hope you have a great Christmas. You and our siblings.
Love your younger sister,
BrookeHappy Christmas, Sage!
I hope that everything goes well for you this December! I sincerely hope your father doesn't ruin the holidays for you. If you need anything, I'll be at Hogwarts and only an owl away!
Anything you're wishing for Christmas? I've heard we only have a few more holidays breaks and then we get treated like scum on Christmas day! Like socks and undergarments underneath the tree! I just hope we don't wake up to that. I don't know what time it is in Kent (unless you are at Hogwarts - if you are we should totally meet up tomorrow!), but I hope you and your step-mum and sister have a great holiday!
With me, as you know from the beginning of my letter, I'm still at school. First time not going home, a bit scary, but you know I do not wanna go home after that. Of course I'll miss my siblings but at least my little sisters Marie and Minnie are going home. I lied to my older sister! Is that bad?
Anyways, before I go on and on, I just hope your father doesn't ruin this for you. Say hi to Casey for me!
Full of Christmas cheer (or really not),
BrooklinePeter,
Hi. Yes, I do know. I know that last time we saw each other was rough. For rhe reccord, I was not sick, I was simply having a bad day. Nothing is wrong with me.
And, yes, I also know that I haven't responded to your letters very often. Or quick. Sorry. I just have a lot on my plate right now. Loads of homework.
Well. I sent this letter to you to wish you a Happy Christmas. I hope you've been well and I hope we talk soon, (or never). How's Beauxbâtons? I hope third year isn't treating you with bunches of homework.
I guess see you soon? Or the next letter? We haven't been able to meet at much Hogwarts balls. I hope we might have a better interaction at the next ball.
I guess soon,
BrookeDear Avery,
I've sent you this card to wish you a Happy Christmas! I hope you were able to see your mum, this Christmas. I only know that longing to see your mother, to make sure she's all right, to make sure she's still on the same track as she was.
I hope whatever was making you sad the day we met gets resolved, and doesn't made you upset anymore. I would also like to state the fact that you are always welcome to send me a owl if you're feeling down. I think sometimes we all need time to wind down. Whenever I have a rough day, I like to write. Today wasn't such a happy day, and now I'm writing Christmas cards. I've written half of the letters of I intend to send, and I feel a little better!
Well, happy Christmas, Avery! Even though your family probably don't know me, tell them to have a happy Christmas from me.
Your friend,
BrooklineHappy Christmas, Pam!
I hope you're having a great Christmas eve, with family and friends, whether at home or Hogwarts! Me, I'm at Hogwarts, and it's not too bad. First time and I thought it would be odd, yet it's not! I like the peace; it used to be little chaotic Christmas out in Wales.
Anything you're wishing to be underneath the tree for the big day? I'm hoping that my older sister remembered to send a few novels in her package she might send soon. Yes, you might think I'm boring but I'm a Ravenclaw! What else to expect of a Ravenclaw?
Anyways, before I get off track, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas day and the rest of your Holiday break from exhausting school.
Have fun!
BrooklineOphelia,
Happy Christmas! I haven't seen much of you or Dove in the dorm, today, so I hope you're having a great time with family. Although, I haven't been in the dorm quite much for the past few days. Studying is brutal. At least the exams should be a breeze at the end of term!
Though, if you're still at Hogwarts, we should meet up sometime tomorrow! Tigeress has been dying to go outside, but I think it's way too cold to out there right now. Though if Dove doesn't mind the chill, we all could probably use the cold yet fresh air.
Have a great hoilday break, Opehlia!
Your dorm buddy,
Brookline
P.S give Dove a hug from me!
