Seeing as the opportunity had shown itself to be worth Euphaustus’ time, there was no reason why he should have declined the invitation. Besides, his original plan was aligning perfectly. It felt nice to talk to other fellow first years whose intentions were to have fun in the trembling cold. They also sounded super friendly, no one actually had greeted the boy in such a welcoming manner. If anything, he was honoured to help them build snowmen - an army of them if necessary! Maybe they could take over the courtyard, or even more ambitious, Hogwarts! Hopefully, no Professor would ruin their plans.
The bright smile that crossed his pink lips was meant to thank the three of them. A red blush appeared too. But he blamed that on cold. Definitely the cold.
“I’m very glad to meet you folk!” Euphausts grinned happily, scratching the back of his head, and proceeded to look down at his feet, his shoes covered in snow, if he stood in the same position any longer, he’d end up having his entire thin legs covered.
“No no,” Euphaustus looked at Lydia, shaking his head, “this Bilbo is actually real! Not from somewhere-something.” The fantastical world Lydia mentioned (which was unknown to Euphaustus) was probably more real than the curly-head’s made up spooky character.
“The only thing we have to do once we build the snowmen,” he started piling up snow adding it onto the one nearly finished, giving it a nice, smooth round shape. He tried to focus on it as much as possible, messing things up was one of his many talents. Still, it was turning out pretty good.
“Is give them a nice little hug so they don’t hate us. But if you don’t wanna risk destroying our creation…” he stopped, trying to think of an alternative - there wasn’t one. “Well yeah just hug them lightly.”
Not wanting to creep them all out with his silly scary tales of fictional monsters, Euphaustus sought out to serve more of himself on the plate. Christmas was definitely the best subject to discuss - and seeing as they were already talking bits and pieces regarding the matter, he didn’t see why not.
“Do you guys think you’ll be getting any presents once you get back home? If you are going back, that is.” The Hufflepuff planned to stay at Hogwarts - but was still debating whether or not he should return to the muggle world for some time. He hadn’t seen his mother in ages and even if their relationship wasn’t the closest, he missed her presence nonetheless. The question of presents of his own on the other hand - well, he never expected much, he got used to the simple receivings of books and tarot decks.

Willow was absolutely ecstatic that people were interested in what her family did for Yule. It was one of her favorite holidays to celebrate throughout the year. "So, ok. We kind of do things like other people but we have different names for it. Instead of a Christmas tree it's a Yule tree. We hang lights to represent the sun. We decorate with things like holly and evergreen but there's specific meanings behind each one that I won't bore you with." She finished her bottom sphere for the snowman and quickly got to work on the middle one as she spoke. "We also burn a specific yule log, meditate with the morning sun on yule..." She paused and thought about other things her family does. Listing out was definitely a different experience than just doing it. "Oh! Every year we pick a charity to donate to, spread the yuletide joy... of course we eat a lot! But we also meditate a lot and do prayers to the God and Goddess." She nodded in confirmation for herself. "Yep! That's it."
She listened to Euphaustus talk about the way to make sure Bilbo doesn't appear, she was upset that she never got to hear this legend before. "This is so cute! I can't wait to hug all of my snowmen creations." She finished the middle one and plopped it on top, a little too hard which made it fall apart. She pouted a bit, her arms staying in the circle for an extra couple seconds as she realized that her creation fell apart. "I'll have to make sure to be gentle..."

Lydia listened carefully at Willow's words. She had never heard of that way of celebrating Christmas, and she was extremely intrigued by it. The Winter Solstice sounded so cool, and once she would have had access to internet again, she promised herself she would have looked up more informations about it.
"Willow, that's amazing!" she said and then stretched her back. Piling up snow was a harder task than most people would think. Lydia then started helping Aaron with the second giant ball, accumulating as much snow as she could.
Euphaustus' explanation on how to avoid Bilbo sounded pretty sweet, and she thought that if they really did manage to create an army of snowmen, then they would have had a lot of snow to hug.
"I'm going back home for the Holidays," Lydia started answering Euphaustus' question, a little frown on her face. She loved spending Christmas with her family; during Christmas Day they would go to her aunt's place and eat a lot of food before going outside to play with the snow in the garden. What she didn't like too much was the day after Christmas; they would usually go all the way to London to her grandma Marie, where they would have lunch with her and a lot of distant relatives that Lydia never saw during the rest of the year. They were all kind of creepy, with their pale skin and white-blonde hair; they almost looked as if they were each other's clones.
After a moment in which she just stared at the snow, Lydia came back to reality and gave a small smile to her new friend. "But it's okay, 'cause I'll get to spend time with my family, and exchange gifts! I really hope I'll get the calligraphy and lettering set I've been begging my mom to get me," she answered, the frown now gone from her face.
"What about you Euphaustus? Will you go home for the holidays?" she asked, and then turned towards Willow, just in time to see her pout at the sight of her now broken snowman. "It's okay Willow, you can always make it again," she tried to reassure her.
Lydia was really happy that she had joined Aaron in this; she also couldn't imagine a better way to make some friends in a cold December morning, if not building snowmen together.

"I'm so excited to go home for the holidays. I can't wait to see my family," Aaron said in response to Euphaustus's question. Aaron was smiling broadly at the thought of the Christmas holidays. He was so excited to see his parents and his brother and his sister. "Presents are cool, too, but I just really want to see them," he explained. For once, he really hadn't given much thought to the present side of Christmas. This had been the longest time Aaron had ever been away from his family, so all he could think about was going home to them.@Euphaustus Boppity, @Willow Anderson, @Lydia Cooper
Moments later, the black-haired wizard was enraptured by the idea of this Yule Winter Solstice idea. All Willow's traditions sounded meaningful and fun. They burned a specific log? What an interesting idea! Aaron wanted to ask more about the whole thing. She said she didn't want to bore them with too much detail, but he wanted it all!
"Willow, why do you celebrate this Solstice thing instead? Is it part of a religion?" Aaron asked, intensely curious. When he looked over his shoulder at her, he saw the exact moment that her snowman fell apart. His mouth fell open into a little 'o'. "Yes, very gentle," he said after a moment, hoping she didn't feel too sad about it.
Aaron heard Lydia speak and he turned his attention back to the giant snowman. The middle ball seemed like it was just the right size. Now how did they get it on top of the giant base? Or should they focus on making the head and then worry about stacking them later? "Lydia, how do you think we should do this?" he asked, clearly referencing the fact that it would be a task to get the snowman all stacked up because of how big it was.

Usually, Euphaustus would be all over the place with his obnoxious ways of telling tales about all spooky sorts of things. Especially if he had just given life to a new creation. Bilbo was too perfect to come up with this time of year - however, this was an opportunity which he couldn’t blow away with his queer ways. As much as he hated to admit it, the ghost-like boy was aware of how people viewed him - so he knew himself far too much, as he should have, of course.
It was so hard, to keep his mouth shut; ‘Burning logs? Keeping fire lit? To avoid Templeton the invisible boy’s chaotic Christmas spirit?’ A ghostly being who reigns in silliness by polluting the houses of families, endangering their lives while at it. This tale was of his mother’s and he got to experience it at one point too. But he knew, that if he jumped in with such talk he’d probably get told off - shooed. Poor Euphaustus couldn’t blame them. Maybe it was just their simple traditions, and he could respect that.
So instead, he smiled, a wavy jolly curve across his lips, eyes glimmering in interest. It sounded far less stressful than what he had assumed, and definitely more enjoyable. At the very least, Willow had given him the opportunity to speak his will on the same question he had asked. Not that the others didn’t provide suitable conversation of course. But maybe talking out the frustration of not deciding whether he wanted to enjoy and experience Hogwarts more, or return home irritated him. He didn’t want to regret anything - not yet, at least.
“Not so sure yet,” he replied, dropping the handful of cold snow on the ground just so he could trim his chin with his gloved fingers - keeping focus on multiple objectives at once was clearly not his strongest suit. “On one hand, the castle is empty and I get the chance to sneak around,” lesson number one about sneaking; don’t tell others you plan to sneak, “on the other, I miss my friends back home,” and even he didn’t get bothered much by it, “my mother too.”
Then he proceeded to grab the same puddle of snow he had dropped a few seconds prior and roll the handful around to give it a proper shape, starting a brand new snowman of his own. “I’m naming this one Billy,” he whispered to himself, loud enough for the others to hear him - even if it wasn’t his intention at all. “Do you figure there’s a spell to make snowmen - or even more interesting, bring them to life?”

She started working on redoing the middle part of her snowman since her work had sadly disintegrated, but she wasn't too sad about it. She could always build another one. "I really am excited to go back home to see my family too. I've missed them so much, and I can't wait to tell them about everything I've learned." This was the longest time she had been away from her family and it was honestly killing her as they got closer and closer to the time for break. "We celebrate the solstice because we're Wiccan, so you were right it is a religion! Instead of worshipping one God we actually celebrate a God and Goddess and the Wheel of the Year that tells the story of their love, which is actually kind of weird because the Goddess gives birth to the God but then he also is her husband at some point. It's unusual that's for sure." She always had the most difficult time explaining the story of them because a lot of people had a hard time imagining it, just like her sometimes.
She looked over at Euphaustus as he named his snowman, and looked back at hers. "Mine is going to be named Penelope!" She nodding confidently, feeling like that perfectly fit the snowman she was giving life to. "But I mean, Frosty the Snowman came to life so there has to be a spell for it. I feel like if you can think of a spell it exists. It's just a matter of knowing what it is." She honestly was surprised by the amount of spells that existed for the most random of purposes since she came to school.
Such as the dancing feet spell, she still didn't understand why it existed in the first place, but it sparked an idea. "What if we cast tarantallegra? Maybe that would make them dance! Just like Frosty!" She thought she was brilliant for coming up with the idea, and maybe they would be down for trying it once they were done with their snowman army.

Lydia nodded to Euphaustus' words, thinking that being one of the few students still in the school would have been amazing to properly explore it. Maybe she could have stayed home during the Easter holidays, if her mother would have agreed to it.
She turned then towards Aaron and smiled at him. "I bet your brother will be so excited to hear about our school!" she said. She then started accumulating some more snow as Willow explained some more of her traditions, and Lydia listened to her words with a lot of interest. "That's so interesting! And how does the Wheel of the Year work? Do you have specific holidays for the events of their love story?" she asked her, incredibly curious.
She then looked at the snowman that she was building with Aaron - or well, she looked at the two big balls of snow that should have been on top of each other- and tapped her fingers together as she thought about a name. The snowman would have been the biggest one and the leader of the army, he probably needed a strong name to show that. "How should we call him Aaron? What do you think of Napoleon?" she asked her friend and then widened her eyes at the boy's question. "Ah, I didn't think about that! They're too heavy to be lifted... maybe we could use a spell or something? What do you think?" she said.
When Willow suggested they could use the Tarantallegra spell to make the snowmen dance, Lydia gave her a big smile as she nodded. "That would look so cool! We should totally do that!"

Aaron smiled when Lydia mentioned his brother, and he nodded in agreement. As he finished up that second snowball, he listened to the other boy in their group. To hear that Euphaustus was planning to stay behind to explore the castle was interesting. "Where would you sneak around if you could?" he wondered, looking at the odd boy with renewed interest. Aaron himself would never think about sneaking around the castle because his parents would definitely disapprove if they found out. He was a bit paranoid about breaking rules because he had gotten into trouble plenty of times when he was younger.@Euphaustus Boppity, @Willow Anderson, @Lydia Cooper
Aaron's attention went back to Willow as she explained about her Wiccan family. He smiled when she said he was right about it being a religion. The feeling of validation was nice. He didn't fully understand the religion from her brief explanation, but Lydia jumped in to ask more questions, which he was grateful for.
"Napoleon is a great name!" Aaron agreed, looking at the spheres of snow. He looked over at the crate he had brought with all the scarves, buttons and carrots. He grabbed some of the bigger buttons, realizing that decorating the separate balls of snow would be easier before they put the whole things together. As he walked back to their snowballs, he nodded in agreement. "Yeah, a spell! Didn't we learn a levitation spell in Charms? You were really good at it, right?" he said, suddenly excited by the idea. He had plenty of faith in Lydia's ability to do this, and hoped she understood why he wasn't offering to do it himself.
Aaron wasn't very good with wandwork. They'd been here at Hogwarts for about three months now, but the only magical thing he had really taken to was flying. He was a natural in the air, but with the wand in his cloak's pocket? Well, with how much they practiced together, Lydia probably knew it took him twice as long to get the hang of spells.
"Here, let me decorate this one with buttons while you form Napoleon's head. We'll decorate the head together, then you can levitate them all onto each other," Aaron summed up to Lydia. He looked over at the other snowmen that were being created: Billy and Penelope. It made him grin as he turned back to the giant Napoleon. Decorating was his favorite part. As he started putting the buttons down the middle of the second snowball, he added to Willow, "Don't they need legs to dance? Or do you think their stick arms'll just start moving around?"

Understanding religion was rather interesting - more interesting than Euphaustus ever thought. His mother never portrayed a particular interest in a common faith. She was just spiritual in her own way, hence why the boy lacked knowledge when it came to such topics, and surprised himself when he showed enthusiasm during the conversation about Willow’s way of celebration. If anything, the whole God and Goddess scenario sounded pretty cool, until Willow started describing the other trivial things the two phenoms got themselves into. The confused face drop Euphaustus bopped was pretty hysterical, if they looked at his face. Nonetheless, he planned to bring this to his mother’s attention whenever he gets back home. She’d probably know something about it.
“Penelope is a nice name!” The boy stood up from his kneeling position in awe, as he had already started to fantasize about the magical decorations they could enchant every snowman with.
“Not sure if you’re with me on this one, but I feel like anyone with a name like that should be dressed in pink… or purple.” What he said was rather random, but some name brought with them automatic visualizations. The weird part was that Euphaustus had a weird deja vu about this. Odd stuff. Lydia’s idea was pretty cool too. It matched with the concept of the snowman she and Aaron had built.
“You should definitely go with that. It’s fitting! Imagine if we had one of those royal semi-circle shaped hats!”
Seeing a snow creature come to life would definitely have been an experience. If there was anyone keen to see that happening, it was definitely Euphaustus, who was gleaming in fantasization. Little Billy would have been looking so happy, shuffling and twirling around in the white courtyard, alongside his fellow buddies. Especially with the large bright grin, his creator had shaped on his face. It almost reached where his ears would be. On top of that, it would have been a whole other nice witness of magic.
“That’s a good question,” Euphaustus then replied, losing himself in thoughts and plans as the question he was asked was rather needed. Funny how he planned what to do, just not where.
“Getting to run away from the castle to the forest would be a nice adventure. But I doubt if that will actually happen, especially with the lack of students to supervise.” On second thought, even the possibilities of the different dangers would probably stop the boy in his meddling.
“If not the forest, then I’d try to find an abandoned girl’s lavatory! I heard an intriguing ghost lives there!” Poltergeists and the sorts were clearly Euphaustus’ knack when it came to researching them and the sort.
Assuming that Aaron’s statement was indeed correct - for the snowmen needing legs in order to dance - Euphaustus shoved a bunch of snow underneath the base of the one he was making, and carefully shaped them into egg-like feet with no shape other than the bent round shape itself. They probably didn’t look anything like feet, but they served as them. So that should work still, right?
“Legs or not, I really hope this actually works now,” the boy emphasized his excitement on the idea.
“Better question is, can any of you actually perform the spell?”

Lydia looked up from the semi-formed head of Napoleon, her face light up by a bright smile. Of course! The levitation charm would have been perfect for this, and she mentally facepalmed for not having thought about it. "Once I'm done with the head and we've put all of the decorations I could assemble our big boy here!" she said cheerfully and then turned towards Euphaustus. "That's an amazing idea Euphaustus! I don't think we have a real one, but I could try to make it with some snow," she said and then quickly finished with Napoleon's head, before she looked at Aaron, a pensive expression on her face.
"I guess so? I could make a couple of legs and then help you finish the decorations for the head," she said, and then started working on the legs. Since she didn't want their snowman to collapse over tiny legs, she made sure to make them pretty big and thick, hoping that they would have been enough to support all of the snow.
Once she was done, she noticed that the second snowball was ready, with all the decorations on it, and she smiled as she took out her wand. "I'll start putting the two giant balls on top of each other Aaron, I'll help you with the head in a second," she said and then pointed her wand to the sphere that was a little smaller than the other.
With a concentrated expression on her face, Lydia moved her wand and said "Wingardium Leviosa"with firm voice, and then the ball started levitating. She really hoped she wouldn't accidentally drop it, that would have been a real shame, but she didn't, and when the ball landed on top of the other one, Lydia giggled excited, turning towards Aaron with a big smile on her face. "Look! It worked!"
